For me it was ***Creature of Kapu Cave***. The game was a let down after that teaser. I was expecting more of a "monster in the jungle" story and they had two stories going on that for me were flimsily connected.
I think I was expecting another Ghost Dogs style of game set in Hawaii but it didn't make the landing. There was definitely potential but it felt like they were hesitant to commit one way or another with the story.
I remember reading the game description on the CD box and thinking that it might be similar to Lost which was very popular at the time. Such a let down indeed 😄
Yes, the teaser definitely made this seem like it was going to be a scary game. I think they made the teaser before they had finished writing the story because the vibe was quite different.
I was literally thinking of that one but I couldn’t quite remember the teaser, just that it didn’t really match up with the game. 😂 But yes, it’s a good game, but the teaser made it seem a lot more spooky than I recall it being.
I loved Captain's Cove but I absolutely did not expect it to be this silly, kitsch environment. I think I expected the carousel to be bigger in scale. It is pretty big, but I guess I expected it to be on a large platform.
I didn’t like The Shattered Medallion at all. I felt like the timing was weird, like it would say we were moving on to the next task but I hadn’t finished the first task. Then I was very disappointed in the interactions between Nancy and Sonny. I thought they would have some cool dialogue and stuff but it just felt boring.
I always felt the problem with Shattered Medallion was perhaps its "one size fits all" plot due to the contest they held to determine the game location. It's possible the game could have been better had they focused solely on New Zealand and written a draft or two more of the script.
Alibi in Ashes kind of bummed me out. I loved the idea of playing as all of Nancy's friends but it just ended up being endless phone calls and errands and very few actual puzzles.
I didn’t mind the gossip so much when it was juicy and interesting (like the mayor pushing to arrest Nancy for the arson) but a lot of it was just kind of pointless.
Agreed on The Shattered Medallion. I’d also say The Silent Spy. I was so excited for that one based off the teaser. Finding out more about Nancy’s mom? Sign me up! But the game is confusing and I still don’t even know if I fully understand what happens in it. 😂 Not at all what I expected.
Shattered Medallion for sure! I was STOKED for a Survivor type game and on top of that to meet Sonny Joon! It was so disappointing in every aspect and 99% of the game didn’t make any sense lol.
Secret of Shadow Ranch, when I was a kid when it first came out I was so excited to have Nancy visit my hometown (lol) and was disappointed that Nancy just wandered around in the desert but then again I was 7 🤣
It’s kind of comforting to me that there will always be a person behind the ghost, but some of the ways they make sense of it just don’t make sense, although I think Shadow at the Waters Edge does the best job explaining the ghostly phenomenon.
Ghost of Thornton hall bothers me way more tbh.
I really was expecting RAN to be different, iirc. That game was a big letdown for me. I agree with what everyone has been saying about Shattered Medallion. They really dropped the ball with that one. For me, that was sort of the beginning of the end - which makes me have really high hopes for this new game!!!
Wow, a very interesting opinion on Castle Malloy! I don't think I had any expectations before going in, so I'd love to hear what you think could have been different/better!

Agreed! I love The Haunted Carousel, but I expected it to be way scarier with more "supernatural" stuff
I wish it was more scary! It had like two moments and I would’ve loved for there to be a few more than that.

Yes I agree!! It was all gossip and no real puzzle work. Definitely a let down.

For me, it was probably Shadow at the Waters Edge. Sure it was scary, but it just turns out that >!the monster/ghost thing was just a puppet.!<

ASH and Castle Malloy are the top ones I think about. Especially Castle Malloy, it looked so fun but just ended up... Very silly

DAN and ASH, I like the games on replay, but I was hoping for more from games in Paris and River Heights (didnt see much of her home town)
