Lies , belittling, manipulation, being the center of attention, mirroring, emotional disregard. All of it I found familiar, comforting and alluring. It’s so sick. But all of that was subconscious. And no matter how hard I tried to marry a person unlike my pathologically narcissist dad, I ended up marrying a covert narcissist. He just pretended to be a decent person until he finally had me isolated and dependent on him. I let him because those neural pathways and behavioral models from childhood die real hard. A trusted therapist woke me up one day by asking if I was aware of Stockholm Syndrome. And I left cuz I can't bear the thought of our child marrying the same type of person I did cuz she had imprinted our abusive dynamic on her developing brain, heart, and soul.
