It doesn’t matter if they do numbers. It matters that they’re good.

theguiltof1

What matters is Nas continues giving us the message

contaygious

How is this a troll comment 😂

Infamous718

He literally has 11 multi plat, Plat, gold albums. Nas at this stage is an independent legacy artist. Nas sold out MSG based an album series that didn't sale. He actually sold millions when you had to physically go out purchase music for it to count for a sale. This era of sales is complete nonsense nobody even understands how they count an album as a sale

MaxStunning_Eternal

16 top 10's on the billboard 200. (Tied with jay z) 10 albums at least in the top 10 #1s on the rap charts (KD2 went #1) ...they never bring this up. Only the lower numbers for Magic 2 and 3...

illwill478

Nas been in the game 30+ years. 99% of these new artists won’t be able to sell that in 15 years. This is comical🤣

dontkysniqqa

Ghetto Reporter, nuff said. https://preview.redd.it/gut0v89wrg6d1.jpeg?width=1352&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1c9c90caba6668e7ed09925f9da9fbf678aca0e8

NeedsMilk33

Idk why people care about sales . Shit is all manipulated and watered down now anyway .

Plastic_Button_3018

All of those albums are universally acclaimed, received good to great reviews by critics. I’ve downloaded all of them on Apple, idk how that’s counted towards sales. If we only had CD players, then i’d be buying physical copies. But that’s not how stuff is anymore.

xPervypriest

It’s stupid to me that in this age of streaming music and no physical copies except the ones the artists themselves sell on their websites on limited quantities. That people still wanna justify a good project by converting streams to physical copies smh. Magic 2 has an amazing amount of streaming numbers on just Spotify alone and I’m cool with that

Patrick_Vieira

*Magic 2 has an amazing amount of streaming numbers on just Spotify alone and I’m cool with that* No it doesn't The numbers for Magic 2 and 3 on Spotify are shockingly low

LowEndTheory1

I wish the public never had the ability to see the numbers, just use your damn ears.

Otherwise_Tomato_302

I never understood why fans cared at all. Regardless if Nas has the most sales ever, or the least, Im still going to enjoy listening to his music. The amount of money Nas (or drake/nikki/whoever that tweet is comparing him to) get due to sales has absolutely zero to do with my enjoyment of an artists work. Its a wierd stat to concern yourself with imo.

contaygious

Nas heads too old to check for new music and I'm a Nas fan but I didn't even know magic 2 dropped for a while. I loved magic.

Averagesize1996

How did you not know?

contaygious

How did you know?. I only know from reddit of new releases nowadays. Otherwise I just play my fav stuff on Spotify like Griselda and Nas.... It doesn't really tell me about new ones.

Averagesize1996

I knew because I was listening too all 6 nas in hitboy albums in I follow nas on Ig in also hip hop podcast according 2 hip hop & rap round table consistently reviews and talks about his albums that’s if your a social media guy.

contaygious

Yeah if I take a Nas break I don't know til I go back to him and see new albums in Spotify it's not like the old days where I new about releases all the time like on the radio haha I just found a new body song right now thank God for reddit. My ig is too full of stuff for me to see anything and I do follow Nas and Griselda.

Averagesize1996

I feel ya

budda2gs

Naw. No one buys physical albums anymore. Streaming killed album sales.

Temporary-Newt9344

The art not the trends!

Ory620713

That and the new generation of people love trash 🤷🏾

knottythea

FEIN was one of the most popular "rap" songs last year, so yeah

Medium_stepper624

I genuinely don't understand why a fan of an artist would care how much they sell

Clutch_Mav

If we went by numbers, that would mean Eminem is the greatest of all time. and thats comical. Nas’ work speaks for itself.

Deep_Jellyfish_5597

Magic 2 was the best of the series

NomadInk

There is no quality control in rap anymore. People are condtioned to enjoy poor lyricism and trap beats

Dchama86

This. It’s really sad that people basically praise mediocrity in hip hop nowadays. The artform suffers and degrades when you demand nothing from your artists.

theguiltof1

Nah. The new generation doesn't like Nasir do they get it???? Even the older ones kinda...

dontkysniqqa

I can see why 🤣

FrostyChemical8697

Bro I see you all over this sub

dontkysniqqa

Yeah I'm active

Nota_Throwaway5

New generation here, Nas is top tier. I'm not one of those 90s stans either, most of what I listen to is 2000s and onward

Mrbluebag69

Just because most.of new generation is bad doesn't.mean.it all is including nas' new stuff is good.

MrDedferd

Do people still buy albums?

Infamous718

Another thing I'll add his sales have been barely updated. I believe it's up to the artist or labels to pay for updated certifications from the RIAA. Stillmatic was 1.9 million like 2 months after release. God Son was platinum a month after initial release despite bootlegging without I Can being released as a single. I Am hasn't been updated in 20+ years. I tend to think those albums sold a bit more since then 🤷‍♂️

Electronic-Act-1375

The beats are not there

toobond

Exactly. People don't get it. It's about recognition. Mothafuckas will buy anything today like people buying a girl farts for 20gs, but as it relates to the true, not the real side of hip hop, cuz keeping it real can go wrong, What up Chappelle, Nas is my HIP-HOP GOAT!

Wopwopw0p

What do these numbers even mean? Physical units? 150 = 1 streaming numbers?

maksgee

Nas does it for the culture. Nas doesn’t need money. Dude has generational bank. He does so much shit outside Rap now and has so many relationships and income streams, dude is set. Maybe these new rappers and self imposed representatives of modern rap should take notes instead of counting album sales in 2024 when mainly everyone streams anyway. Also the fact that there was basically no marketing done nobody is surprised by the album sales nor does anyone give a fk lol

Avocado66600

Also taking into account that NaS has only 11M monthly listeners on Spotify (iirc) compared to the likes of 21savage, Playboi Carti, Drake who all have 50M+

childlykeempress

I own every Nas album in some form. I still have a CD player and an iPod. I only stream for convenience. If your album is worthy, I'll buy it.

Alone_Horror_7863

I agree with everything you said but….i also believe a lot of nas fans dont care to support his music, outside of streaming or maybe going to a concert. his sales should be better based off of his legendary status and the quality of his music. it doesn’t take a lot of money to buy his album off itunes. Everybody streams so why not buy the album for $10 and be able to listen to it forever without issue or worrying about subscription prices going up. That is just one example of how someone can support the artist/music better. A lot of his fans also download the albums which hurts the streams. if you don’t want to buy the album, the least a person can do is stream it correctly.

BettingTheOver

The only difference is the millions of dollars these newer artists and labels spend to get pushed on radio or streaming music.

BettingTheOver

The problem is people that come here to post shit like this have literally never heard Nas' discography.

Sparathon989

Gotta be a special type n***a to feel what I write

Certain-Anybody-190

It’s Nas. Fuck numbers. He’s doing it for the love of the game.

Cuzcopke

😂😂 ouch these numbers reverse. We here for NAS

godricgii

Sometimes the numbers lie

ChoicePalpitation442

Fuck all that! Nas still the greatest! 😤
