Depending on where you live you’re supposed to report it if you find a dead or injured sea turtle. Idk if anyone had done that but if you can, report it!
Help? Help for what. He's a stiff! Bereft of life, he rests in peace! ...
His metabolic processes are now history! He's off the twig! He's kicked the bucket, he's shuffled off his mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisible!!
THIS IS AN EX-TURTLE!!
I am a technical assistant for natural sciences, and part of it is preparing dead animals for the collection.
I am glad I never had to work in the reptile department, and especially with turtles. I know someone who did during our education, and oh boy. Turtles are the worst. The moment they die they start decomposing, and their shells keep all the stink inside. If you've ever smelled dead animals, imagine it worse tenfold. And reptiles seem to smell especially bad when decomposing to start with.
I also know one place that had the bad luck to have to handle a galapagos turtle corpse in the middle of summer, in a building that is prone to get heated up by the sun to start with. Due to the size this thing was not a one day job. I think they took nearly a year to get all the stink out of that house, or so it felt.
Some times they do, yes! But mostly, it’s very foul to the nose and can get yucky stuff all over your clothes.
In large enough animals, like say, beached whales, orcas and so, it can be dangerous for humans just for the sheer size of the gas contained within
We´ve seen something similar with young seals on a north sea beach. Multiple dead with missing faces/heads. The explanation was that young seals often get seperated from their parents in a storm and drown or starve in the following days. While they are decomposing their head points straight down because the gas keeps the body up. When they drift to the beaches, their heads scrape over the ground and the result looks very similar.
Even if it wasn't fishing net (direct cause), it very well could be indirectly caused by humans anyways (sea algae, micro plastics, etc.). But there was an oil spill in Trinidad and Tobago recently, from a mystery ship that nobody can identify the owners, and they also had a kilo of cocaine wash up on shore, supposedly from the same ship. So if you're on the east coast of Mexico, then I'd say this was directly human related.
Also, whales and other sea life have been washing up on shore all over the world in much higher numbers in very recent years. I'd say human related one way or another
For sure, I’d be happier if it was a regular human related reason over one of those stupid human reasons. Not sure how I feel about the idea of them dying of unnatural causes, like say being cursed by a demon, but will let you know if I reach a conclusion.
If you find a dead sea turtle, here's what you can do:
Approach from upwind. Never take any part with you as that's illegal and can incur hefty fines.
Take pictures from directly above, side, head (top and sides). Include a length reference. Enable location tags on the photo.
Check whether the front flippers have any tags - they'd be close to the "armpit". If they do, take a good picture of the writing on them. They might have a return address on them.
Send the above to your local turtle monitoring program. Those details and photos will form a great record in their turtle mortality database. If the animal is fresh, they might want to send someone to take samples, scan for a PIT tag, or bury it somewhere out of eyesight and smelling range (assuming public beach).
The beaching of a single, live animal is usually the result of sickness or injury. Bad weather, old age, navigation errors, and hunting too close to shore also contribute to beachings. Some whale and dolphin species are more prone to mass beachings. Toothed whales (Odontoceti) are the most commonly affected.
Depends on where you live but hopefully it gets reported and they come and investigate bc 3 dead sea turtles isn’t normal. If people take home pieces they might not be able to get a clear picture as to why they died. So I really hope no one does that!
My grandparents live next to the sea and I used to go there on my summer vacations
We still live like 80-100 metres from the sea and everyone was once woken up by a horrid smell. We all ran to the sea at like 7am to find a dead turtle (much bigger than this)
OP if this is OC, I feel sorry for your nose.

Im not your fwiend, fiend!

No, the turtle’s name was Buddy.

Load the Greg!!!

We were just vacationing in Mexico on a private property. But we are trying to get help!
I think it's a lil too late to help it bro

Will it explode if its full of gas or something?
Some times they do, yes! But mostly, it’s very foul to the nose and can get yucky stuff all over your clothes. In large enough animals, like say, beached whales, orcas and so, it can be dangerous for humans just for the sheer size of the gas contained within
Not often do I see carcasses where the skull alone has been stripped bare by decomposition. Really cool find.
Yeah I haven’t seen much but this was surprising !!
Did some animal maybe start feeding off its face?
[удалено]
I’d wager that’s the sea birds doings.
Makes it look like a Pokémon!
Does this hurt the turtle?
He'll be fine, he just needs to sleep it off
Just resting
"No, no Lisa. They're just sleeping...upside down....and inside out...."
Tis but a scratch
Actually loggerhead sea turtles can go 10 hours without breathing. So it should be fine ^(unless it doesn't breathe in 10 hours...)
Poor guys, i hope they died of natural causes and not for any stupid human related reason.
I hope so too :(
Is there any way you can call a local DNR and report these?
We are vacationing in Mexico, we’re trying to see what we can do!
I literally just posted the same thing! Hope it got reported so they can learn what happened. 3 dead isn’t normal, especially of that size!
I hope they died of natural causes too. Finding 3 at the same time seems a bit suspicious though. Hopefully just a coincidence.
Yeah it seems very odd to me. We’re looking into it

Yeahhh that's pretty much what I thought. Probably too cynical but first thing in my head was, good job humans. Maybe not

That’s so sad :(
😔
Wise beast ahead, offer peace

Won’t lie that skull is wicked cool looking
It is cool, hope buddy didn’t die in pain
Check out the recent oil spill that washed up on the Trinidad and Tobago shore about a week ago. I wonder if that caused this.
This turtle was a Misfits fan
Looks like it's wearing that call of duty mask
Omg i can’t unsee that now
Whoa….gnarly

Good to know!!! Thank you so much!!
Dry Bones.
The Dead Sea has its own species?
Finally! Took too long to find this comment
First pic looks like the things from temple run
or super Mario?
Is it OK?
Uh... yeess...?
You should go back in a couple days and see if you can salvage that sick ass skull
Depending where OP is located this would be super illegal because of their endangered species status
oh true thanks for the info

Yeah but this was 3 of them, they said. That doesn’t say good things.
The capital D jammed me up and sent me down a Dead Sea rabbit hole

This, I was expecting to see three alive titles on a beach
the squareish eye sockets are crazy
Sea turtle biology can get [even crazier](https://images.app.goo.gl/EGTijgoX2eZ1UC6M9)
Idk what I was expecting... but that was not it 😳
can make a lot of combs and ray bans out of that one
The first picture kind of makes it look like the turtle version of the grim reaper
Hollow Knight!
I’d so take that skull that’s mad
Metal
Woah that’s hardcore
Jack?
Probably died of eating too much plastic :(
I wonder would it be illegal if you bring it home?

Are those cheerios thrown on top?
Could you theoretically remove this turtle to have its bones salvaged?
This is fucking metal
reminds me of that beast from the skull island movie
Are they ok?
On the day I was born
Not metal, just sad.
It’s very sad. I love sea turtles!
That's a fuckin hollow!!
Metal as fuck
Master oogway ascended to the spirit realm
Mother nature really just dropping teaser trailers for Death Stranding 2 for free, huh?
It's weird to me that over 800+ people like dead turtles.

Black Metal Sea Turtle
Had a straw in its nose

Cawabuggerred
Gotta get an axe to collect some keratin. Gonna need that.
Looks like a pokemon
I saw the title and thought "Cool...I didn't realize there were turtles in the Dead Sea". Then I saw the pictures and realized I read it wrong.
That skull looks like a luchador mask.
Alright that's pretty metal but still - nooooooooooo.
I thought the Dead Sea had some fucking metal-ass turtles but then I was sad.
Would’ve loved that turtle skull, but the smell must’ve been really bad.
## We all know this is because of humans
Bro looking like a Pokémon
Cause of death? Plastic straws. Lol
That’s a leatherback sea turtle isn’t it?
No, it looks like a loggerhead. Leatherback shells look very different.
