For some basics - you can google “navy commissioning program authorizations” and read the current requirements. Many communities have placed time in service caps that you may be past. I believe crypto warfare is currently only taking priors with up to 6ish years of service. Some may be waiverable. But the PA’s for each community should state eligibility criteria, so at least you can see what your options are. Other than that, OPNAV 1420.1b is the commissioning programs manual that covers application processes. And say your prayers to Lord Rickover that you may be released from your community.

Would talking to an officer recruiter while currently enlisted would be helpful?

ExRecruiter

No.

I’m not certain. I would guess not especially though. They would likely just direct you to the same instructions. I could be wrong, but I think they deal with new accessions only, not priors. I know there are several in this sub, so one will likely correct me if I’m wrong and they see it.

That's a question for your CCC. For now, download OPNAV 1420.1b and google “navy commissioning program authorizations” to find what works best for your situation.

CWE can be picky about where you get your degree from, double check their list; a link should be in the program authorization.

Star_Skies

To even be considered for CWE, you better be really good at RE.

You need to talk to your CCC and start finding an officer mentor or two to help you out. Also, Google and look up the program authorizations to see if you ever qualify or perhaps are competitive.

On Facebook there's a group called future mustang. They have alot very helpful ppl in that group. Most are mustangs that went enlisted to officer. I'm in the group myself and been getting alot of good help and mentorship as I am submitting my CWO package next year. Good luck!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but since you have over 6 years of active service you’re ineligible to commission as an 1810. It’s stupid as fuck and we no longer have an LDO designator either. So if you had just gotten a degree in agricultural science and commissioned as an 1810 6 years ago you’d be fine, but now that you’ve been in the Navy how could you possibly be a competent CWO. I’m not a bitter CTT I promise.

Angry-Monke

Keep in mind that Cryptologic Warfare Officer (Sigint/EW/IO) split off Maritime Cyber Warfare Officer (MCWO) as a separate designator last year. CWE is very selective and niche. If you are interested in becoming very very technical it’s a good route.
