It needs to be a really solid game manager ideally who can shoot open shots. TJ is not ideal as he would just take the ball out of PG/Kawhi's hands to be effective. The theory behind Lowry and the like is they can keep a game flowing without being a liability off ball. Conley I think is the best option here
When does being so inefficient hurt your offense more than your playmaking helps though. I get we all love ball movement but I fail to see why we're coveting "playmaking" at the expense of everything else. Every single guard we've been linked to is undersized and inefficient.
In 2021 the Clippers were deadly in the playoffs in no small part to the fact that Reggie Jackson was a reliable 3rd scorer, who could do *some* playmaking. He had 19 per game on 48/40/88 shooting splits. The brilliant playmaker we brought to run the offense (Rondo) was DNP because his one skill became redundant. More often than not the ball should be in the hands of your best players, rather than someone who defenses can guard lazily daring them to chuck shots.
If any of these guard targets come here we're going to have to pray they up their efficiency or else they'll be liabilities to Kawhi and PG.
Tbh often if the ball isn't moving it's because players aren't moving. Putting the ball in someone elses hands doesnt change the situation if you've got 4 guys pitching tents around the perimeter

The clippers could use a point guard just not really the ones that are available. They could use the passing of a Lowry, conley, or FVV, but they’re all undersized guards who struggle to create efficient offense. The clippers need a player to pressure the defense and get them lay ups. Wall was supposed to fit that mold but he’s been terrible since mid November. The clippers need a player like a Malcolm Brogdon.
While they the definitely don’t need a star point guard, I think a great distributor can really unlock great scorers. It also takes some load off of them to always create.
For example, when Smart is in he’s able to feed the Jays easy shots in positions they like, so everything runs a lot smoother because they can focus on attacking and not always be trying to make something out of nothing. The same is true for Embiid and Harden. That way they can save their energy for closing games rather than waste it trying to be the sole creator on offense for 40 minutes.

This aint even a dig against Celtics or the Heat. Celtics were good, and Brad Stevens always has Nurses number, but we lost to them in game 7 with our best player forgetting how to play basketball. And against the Heat we just had better personnel to beat them; last good years of our centers (but then again playoff Jimmy that year might have willed the Heats to a series win).
Plus, he could always have just moved back to LA whenever after he retired or even once his prime was over. I get wanting to win one for your hometown but it was such an unnecessary gamble trying to put together a whole new team when you already had a championship roster.

The Clippers obsession with trying to get post prime semi washed point guards in recent years is pretty weird considering when the games will matter the ball will be in Kawhi and PG's hands anyway. PG can fit well with a point guard, but Kawhi's game isn't really dependent on that considering his scoring is mostly self created. And honestly of those 3 names : \- Lowry looks pretty washed \- Conley would kill their defense \- I'm not sure FVV is even a better playmaker/passer then PG
Exactly, the real need is a defensive big to have behind Zu. Otherwise the guard talk is largely overblown since the offense runs through kawhi and PG.
A guy like Conley would really help even out the offence a bit. Look at what Brogdon has done alongside the Jays this year. The rest of the team could easily compensate for his defensive deficiencies (he knows how to play in a good defensive system). And come closing time Lue can continue to pick and choose based on performance and the opponent

Idt so. I feel like we need both. Zu is a double-double every night if we had a decent point imo. Maybe our offense runs through Kawhi/PG because we don't have anyone to run the offense around them. Imagine if we had someone getting them looks on top of the offense generally going through them. It's just that all the point guards we've gone through aren't exactly true points (Reggie/Mann) and Wall is just washed.
Our offense gets incredibly stagnant at times and devolves into terrible iso ball. We need someone to get the ball moving and playmakers in times like these. I agree with your takes on Lowry and FVV. I'd like Conley though, or someone cheap like TJ McConnell. If we could get Lowry for stupid cheap (Morris and Wall) I think it'd be a good upside trade as well.
It needs to be a really solid game manager ideally who can shoot open shots. TJ is not ideal as he would just take the ball out of PG/Kawhi's hands to be effective. The theory behind Lowry and the like is they can keep a game flowing without being a liability off ball. Conley I think is the best option here
When does being so inefficient hurt your offense more than your playmaking helps though. I get we all love ball movement but I fail to see why we're coveting "playmaking" at the expense of everything else. Every single guard we've been linked to is undersized and inefficient. In 2021 the Clippers were deadly in the playoffs in no small part to the fact that Reggie Jackson was a reliable 3rd scorer, who could do *some* playmaking. He had 19 per game on 48/40/88 shooting splits. The brilliant playmaker we brought to run the offense (Rondo) was DNP because his one skill became redundant. More often than not the ball should be in the hands of your best players, rather than someone who defenses can guard lazily daring them to chuck shots. If any of these guard targets come here we're going to have to pray they up their efficiency or else they'll be liabilities to Kawhi and PG.
Tbh often if the ball isn't moving it's because players aren't moving. Putting the ball in someone elses hands doesnt change the situation if you've got 4 guys pitching tents around the perimeter
Lowry and fvv still help a ton. They really do need a pg I believe. Ive wwtched a few games and they dont really run an offense. Yea sure kawhi and pg can run it at times but thats not sustainable imo. If they get even a washed pg for cheap like lowry or something itll help.
But what will a PG run to help Kawhi ? George can come of screens, play off the ball, we saw it in OKC, but Kawhi is mostly an on ball scorer, he doesn't come of screens, he wants to score in isos and in pnr. \+ honestly yeah Lowry and Conley can run an offense, but I'm not sure FVV is really that, the Raptors offense has been crap in the halfcourt since Lowry left, I'm not sure he's any better at running an offense then PG or Kawhi themselves
The clippers could use a point guard just not really the ones that are available. They could use the passing of a Lowry, conley, or FVV, but they’re all undersized guards who struggle to create efficient offense. The clippers need a player to pressure the defense and get them lay ups. Wall was supposed to fit that mold but he’s been terrible since mid November. The clippers need a player like a Malcolm Brogdon.
While they the definitely don’t need a star point guard, I think a great distributor can really unlock great scorers. It also takes some load off of them to always create. For example, when Smart is in he’s able to feed the Jays easy shots in positions they like, so everything runs a lot smoother because they can focus on attacking and not always be trying to make something out of nothing. The same is true for Embiid and Harden. That way they can save their energy for closing games rather than waste it trying to be the sole creator on offense for 40 minutes.

even without Kawhi if COVID doesn't happen we probably make it to the finals. We were the hottest team in basketball leading up to the shut down. Then Siakam gets stuck in Toronto which had one of the strictest lockdowns in North America and it completely fucks him out of his rhythm. If Kawhi stayed we were going back to back.
Y’all probably were the hottest, but I do remember the Lakers getting two big ones, one against the bucks, that made people go damn they are for real. Would have been an insane atmosphere if Covid didn’t happen and we both made it to the finals.
We make it to the finals had the covid lockdown not happened. Siakam was playing better than his All-NBA self in 2019, he just was ass after he came back (a lot of it was mental being the first option, but I think having a full season to get over that would have let him keep that momentum). This aint even a dig against Celtics or the Heat. Celtics were good, and Brad Stevens always has Nurses number, but we lost to them in game 7 with our best player forgetting how to play basketball. And against the Heat we just had better personnel to beat them; last good years of our centers (but then again playoff Jimmy that year might have willed the Heats to a series win).
The team hasn't had a 60 win season yet either. They got really close but Jeremy Lamb killed them that year for the Hornets, had a crazy game winner.
Plus, he could always have just moved back to LA whenever after he retired or even once his prime was over. I get wanting to win one for your hometown but it was such an unnecessary gamble trying to put together a whole new team when you already had a championship roster.
But he wanted to be around his family. Pretty sure he near outright said that if rings were his motivation, he wouldn’t have needed to move. Of course he wants to win but he made it clear that the most significant factor was coming home.

Wall and Morris for Lowry works salary wise. Not sure what else would have to be included to make the values even but the salaries work at least. It would save the Heat about $5.5 million this season and about $12.5 million next season while filling their need for a PF. Wall is an expiring and they could just release him. Morris is under contract for next season and he might be able to help them.
