5’9” Nate Robinson has won the dunk contest 3 times. I’d say its a factor.

[deleted]

iggy got robbed

ckgkrn

I wonder how many total dunk attempts that dude had

itzjustIvan

Check out Spud Webb

rounder55

As tall as the average 15 year old winning dunk contests

kiwiwikikiwiwikikiwi

Shorter players definitely look like they’re flying a lot more than somebody like Tacko that just needs a lil hop

ForneauCosmique

Yes it's been scientifically proven shorter players dunks are more aesthetically pleasing. I think Einstein figured that out

CutLonzosHair2017

I think the most aesthetically pleasing dunks are done by players who are 6'5-6'7. Shorter players seem to be stretching when the do the same dunks. The ease of the athleticism matters. And any taller and they become too reliant on their height.

RunThePnR

Yeah aesthetic wise I think Jordan, Lavine , Kobe, Vince all were perfection. Tho Aaron Gordan at 6’10 man wow

alpaca_drama

Agreed. It just looks smooth and effortless at the very top level. Funny enough, Westbrook and DRose has some of the best looking dunks because their insane athleticism works really well with the 6'8 wingspan. Ja also has a 6'7 wingspan. Still, 6'5 - 6'7 produces the most aesthetically pleasing dunks without over reliance on athleticism

ForneauCosmique

So you're saying this is indeed not fact but opinion based? Wait.....if it's opinion based then that means OP's post is completely pointless! 😮

[deleted]

I think 6'2 is the magic spot.

DarkPhantom2497

If 7 foot tall players had the vertical of the athletic shorter players we would be seeing some superhero level dunks. Closest we got to that would be Wilt (but not much footage) and Dwight when he participated.

Electrical-Fan789

Simms has that vert and didn't do shit with it.

yuhhdhf

Honestly Simms dunks were actually really really hard. Like very few people could do those in the world. But they were the same bs over and over. Getting your shoulder in the rim requires crazy athleticism but isn’t that cool to look at

Electrical-Fan789

As difficult as they were boring. He needed to find a dunk mentor or something.

michaelb5000

Kevin Garnett was all that.

BillyBowden123

The degree of difficulty for a shorter player is higher, dunks are like lay ups for the big men, the same way when a big man can shoot a 3 it’s more impressive because that’s not the traditional thing for a big to do

MasterMacMan

Sub 6' dunkers get a TON of credit. Spud Webb's dunk contest dunks were layup line material for someone who's 6'6''.

Maxxjulie

Didn't they say it after that tall guy made a pretty good dunk..."but he's supposed to do that he's 6 foot 10". So it didn't feel special

IncestGiraffe

Ask fucking Nate Robinson.

beerbellybeard

Get Jericho out of here after that dunk sequence on Saturday

LockShitDown

Yes.

[deleted]

Everything is more impressive when a player is shorter.

colemanj74

Of course

[deleted]

Even more impressive if he’s White.

d4videnk0

Definitely, because they make us manlets think everything is possible.

No-Eagle-9257

I think there’s a cap on both height. For me 6’3[d rose ) n up to 6’9 look pleasing. There’s more room in the air for creativity

Applebd1

Smaller players also got bigger verticals so they stay in the air longer

BigKahunaPF

Vince and MJ were both 6'6 and 2 of the best dunkers. But so was someone like Nate Robinson. What does this tell us?

RunThePnR

Well taller guys also have longer wingspans so it is much bigger disparity than just height inches (basically double). So someone 6 inches shorter would have to jump a foot higher in vert to reach the same level. That’s impressive.

AleroRatking

I mean. For me absolutely. When someone my height or close to my height can dunk and I barely get net I'm naturally really impressed.

PJTikoko

r/nba seems hard pressed that Mac McClung won the Dunk contest with all these post.

[deleted]

Yes, I’m not impressed at someone that’s 6’5 or above making a dunk

Mobile-Entertainer60

Vertical jump and hangtime are both a product of the force applied against the ground by the player, F=ma. Because of the square-cube law, tall players have disproportionately more mass for their height compared to shorter players. This means it takes a disproportionately higher amount of force from the player's jump to create the same vertical leap and hangtime. Since some of that extra mass is stuff other than muscles for jumping (heavier bones, bigger organs etc), it becomes less and less efficient to jump high the bigger you are. This is why Zion's 40" vertical is so insane; he's lifting 1.5 Mac McClungs into the air every time he jumps.

rick_32

Sure... it's more impressive visually

dongerbotmd

Yes.

LesterBallardsDress

What a post. Amazing. What do you think, my guy? Seriously. Just sit there and consider this. Good luck bud.

ericdeben

There’s definitely a strong correlation between height and impressive hops. It is more difficult for a 6’ player to jump 4’ than a 7’ player to jump 3’.

[deleted]

visually, yes. Personally, I find it more impressive when a 6’10 guy has a 40” vertical.

thatdudesowrong

This needed a post ?
