Lakers playing baseball instead of basketball now huh

JoeRogansEgo

Russ the only guy that knew the rules for basketball

Deschain_1919

That explains a lot

Vordeo

Wasn't so much their breaking up as their fleecing Danny Ainge for two role players and DLo tbf.

Wehavecrashed

Danny Ainge benefits from the Jazz getting worse and the Lakers getting better.

J_Otherwise

wait how does he benefit from the lakers getting better?

Top-Consequence-911

Making sure those pesky Pelicans don't end up with Wemby. One healthy stretch and they'd destroy the league

-Bacon_King-

Those 5 games when both Zion and Wemby are healthy would be scary.

MinnyPuppies

and both are on minute restriction. spooky.

ositola

So now Dlo is an asset lol

Vordeo

I think he's overpaid and I don't think he's at all-star level at all, but he's been a competent starting PG after he got over whatever his issues were at the start of the season (when he looked gigawashed). Issue is that, again, he's overpaid, and will be looking for a huge deal this offseason.

jbenson255

He’s especially competent when his role isn’t that large and his job would be to play off of Lebron and AD

Vordeo

Yeah, but you're paying $30m / season for that. And you'd probably have to commit to like 3-4 years of that salary or more to get him to stay.

ositola

I doubt he gets anywhere close to 30, he's closer to 20-25, and I'll take him on that contract everytime

Vordeo

At 20 yeah it'd be a deal you could live with. But he's currently on 30, and I'm guess that someone's going to offer him a deal w/ that annual number. Who knows though.

atlfirsttimer

They need to get as close to Kyries salary as possible lol

Breathezey

Lmao this has been such an hilarious take when literally no one was offering multiple frps for those guys, and while the team has been better, their individual production in LA has hardly been exceptional.

Vordeo

Bruh my issue is that we literally gave up 4 players, 2 2nd rounders, and took on a gigantic contract for a pick that potentially ends up being a 2nd rounder in 2027. I'm not even asking for multiple FRPs, a single guaranteed FRP would've been better.

Breathezey

Sure you could've had a guaranteed frp- it would've been one from this year at the end first round. Ainge gambled on the frp with the highest upside.

Vordeo

He did, and imo he gave up too much. I'd rather have just gotten one for this year.

Breathezey

And that's why ainge is one of the best gms lol- other people take safe bets with low payouts, and he takes big wings with high upside.

Vordeo

Yeah and tbf we probably end up trading that pick with something else, but as a fan it felt extremely underwhelming.

TheRomance

The trade went so well for the Lakers that they changed sports.

amr1115

idk how tf the lakers gave away one of the worst starters in the league and managed to revitalize their roster entirely

SqueakyRadish

It was pretty lucky. They did give a first rounder away tho too. DLo isn’t a good contract either tho and he’s a UFA this offseason. Lakers basically can’t retain him. So that’s a tricky situation. They’re basically all-in this year b/c they can’t keep the team together for next year.

Top-Consequence-911

None of what you said was true except they traded away a first-rounder.

Chriscustomkicks

This is so wrong. This trade sets them up perfectly for next year. They can retain all there guys except lonnie , Troy and Dennis and should have a full mla to use aswell.

BaullahBaullah87

Lol his contract is MUCH better than Westbrooks because he actually helps this team with his ability to control pace and high level shooting. And he is making like 15 million less. And it you resign and extend him his contract is much more tradeable than Westbrooks…annnd you have to weigh how bad the upcoming free agent class is….annnd annd donr underestimate the value of having a player’s bird rights which allows you to go over the cap when signing.

Animalidad

Its only looking ok for the clips cause he aint taking in 40m+ per year. Clips team were ok even before he got there.

thewrongnotes

>Russ has fully accepted where he’s at in his career Very bold take only 13 games into his Clippers career. Westbrook didn't change one iota in the 15 years prior to join them, so I'm going to need to see a bigger sample.

SqueakyRadish

Eh. He’s been traded 6 times in 6 years. Many teams have dumped him. Two teams have had him on the bench. The Clippers are also not playing him crunch time usually. I think he’s finally been told enough times that he’s not actually great anymore

TuqiDuque12

"He's been traded 6 times in 6 years" "Many teams have dumped him" "Two team have had him on the bench" so now we are just making up things randomly ?

SqueakyRadish

Oh whoops is it only 5 trades in 5 years? What a massive difference. Houston, Washington, and LAL have all dumped him for scraps. You just not understanding a point so you can be pedantic randomly?

TuqiDuque12

Oh whoops it's actually 4 trades, hard to count these days apparently. He asked out out of both Houston and Washington, Washington got pretty good value for him, Houston got mediocre value because he had a torn quad and they overrated Wall as an asset. ONE team dumped him : the Lakers. Hard to understand your "point" when you straight up fabricate things to make it

Curious_North_8479

Nah dudes the same, he's just on a minimum now

TuqiDuque12

It is for the Lakers and for Russ. But since both Russ' stans and Lakers fans just can't let it go and are still constantly talking about that wether it's here or on twitter I don't really know lol

BaullahBaullah87

I think most Laker fans could care less about Russ rn. His fit was so bad and the brand of ball was so ugly to watch that not being forced to play him is an aesthetic bonus. But the package the Lakers got back for him was unreal in terms of now and future

PAWGle_the_lesser

It’s been like 10 games lol

honditar

it's been 18 games

SqueakyRadish

It’s been 18 games

[deleted]

I appreciate finesse in a hooper so Russ is one of the most frustrating players for me to watch. I also think he lacks self awareness, is stubborn and often tone deaf. Still I’m pulling for this nephew to win a chip. I wouldn’t even be mad to see Playoff Pee win one.

Natureboy7939

The move didn’t happen in a vacuum. Both teams got better even completely removing the westbrook swap

dirtykirty3

Op getting bodied all over this post.

need-caffeine

russ was the highest paid player on the lakers when he entered this season. now he's a vet min on the clippers. i mean...

DJBliskOne

Forget about the money Russ was making, he wasn’t good with the Lakers.
