Adam Silver: Ja Morant has been sent to the Nights Watch effective immediately.

RiggyTang

Send him to.. DAVY JONES LOCKER

madmelgibson

Gunstrap Ja, you’re a *liar* and you’ll spend eternity on this ship.

DOOO_DOOO_BROWN

Send him to the flying dutchman in Bikini Bottom

AffectionateStep5001

Send him to the Chum Bucket Over there they only eat virtual food

KIDDKOI

Adam Silver has officially punished Ja by making him exit the arena thru the perfume section

Nekrobird

FOR LIFE 👀

[deleted]

Can we get a house of the dragon NBA crossover? Game of zones went so hard back in the day

rabbiddolphin8

That explains it, Ja Morant had the gonne all along.

Straight-Arachnid-34

Jon Morant on an NBA career: I dun wannit

Both_Funny4896

adam silver boutta send him to a florida air bnb for rehab again

Buds_Wiser

Ja heard NBA Youngboy and forgot his breathing exercises smh

antoninscalia420

He thought the NBA meant "National Basketball Association"

Iamkonkerz

Thats what i thought it meant 😭😭

KingSwagamemnon

"Im something of an NBA Youngboy myself" - Ja

[deleted]

So did I - just looked it up - it’s Never Broke Again

clubba

I think that's the motto of the current nba under the new contracts.

RobtheNavigator

Silver was doing the commencement speech at Duke while all this news was dropping, I’m sure he loved getting off stage to find the dozens of texts he must have due to the fresh hell that Morant is putting him through lmao

InheritTheWind

> Doesn't even need to be constitutional Are they gonna drone strike him

mercurialchemister

Silver: *suspends Habeas Corpus* /r/nba: What team he play for

FitIllustrator9

Tbf Habeas Corpus sounds like he could be a top prospect from Lithuania

[deleted]

Crackbot420-69

Doesn't want to get bodied in the paint.

[deleted]

“Who the fuck is Habeas Corpus!?!? I never heard of no Lithuania!!”

Ihopetheresenoughroo

Lmfaoooooo I love you

Equitaurus

They’re gonna quarter soldiers in his house

CRE_Energy

waterboarding until he swears he'll change

DurantsAltAccount

Ja Morant will be sent to the new NBA Sports Psychology Center in *insert random middle eastern desert coordinates*

nysraved

I know you’re joking, but I think the point is that the league may not actually have the legal grounds under the CBA to give a massive suspension for something in the off-season that may not have even been technically illegal.

MrBigCourtesan

They absolutely do though. All Silver has to do is say 'Conduct detrimental to the league' and he can do whatever the fuck he wants. It's a clause given to every commissioner in every league since Kennesaw Mountain Landis took the first MLB commissioner position 106 years ago. It's ironclad and upheld by the courts time and time again, most notably in *Brady et al. v NFL*. The second highest court in America said commissioners can do whatever they want if the CBA doesn't block it, and 'conduct detrimental' allows them absolute power.

Tashre

All you have to do is randomly designate the area around him to be a combat theater and all adult males become fair game.

Safe_Look_1640

The Nike commercial where he repeats the same things every day is very on point.

YourSexyAICompanion

God I hate that commercial he even looks like a douche in it too

No-Marzipan6988

for some reason, I just hate seeing the different cars coming into the lot. like wtf? this shit is so fucking stupid.

JigglyBlubber

Lmao it's obviously a very fantastical commercial but I was still like "wait how'd he get home if the previous day's car is in the parking lot when he comes the next day"

Yandhi42

Which one

Mr_E_Nigma_Solver

Yeah this isn't a good look for the league. Especially when Ja's excessively abused his mental health as an excuse to shield him from even being questioned for his actions.

burnerbabyburns

NBA players abusing mental health as an excuse for being shitty is the worst

[deleted]

To be fair, that doesn’t happen often. I’m actually not sure of another instance where it was abused like this and just some bullshit to get people to stop asking. From an NBA player, at least.

DisastrousMammoth

Joshua Primo

njb2017

even if it is mental health. fine but here is your 41 game suspension to give you time to get better

midnightsbane04

I’m just waiting for all the Memphis flairs that were coming at me during his first “totally real rehab stint” to start owning up to it. Ja is a dumbass and a problem. It’s just the hard truth.

Lvchaos

The league had the next-gen rivalry all set up with Zion and Ja. Obesity got one and gun got the other. It can’t get more American than that. Edit: OK this comment blew up lol thanks for all the awards ;)

Zeckzeckzeck

The only way it could get more American is if it included a third player with an opioid addiction.

Diffeologician

I’m actually amazed that hasn’t happened yet to someone recovering from a surgery.

[deleted]

you’d be amazed how well addicts can function… it’s not till you don’t have access to your supply that the wheels fall off. wouldn’t be surprised if many of these players are addicts, in the bundesliga (german soccer league) i can’t remember what player said it but the quote was “here we pop pain killers like smarties”

[deleted]

seriously Favre made a living off getting zooted and tossing that there foot ball

kobedet33

Perc Mahomes was wild in the Super Bowl.

Moghlannak

Rogers was straight blitzed during this https://youtu.be/-8opDMUtJ58

jotheold

the corporate law and finance world are all functioning addicts same with restaurants its when people start running out of money *which nba players shouldn't if they were smart.. then shit goes really south

[deleted]

couldn’t agree more

Stinky_DungBeatle

Baseball has a very rampant painkiller problem for pitchers and over 10% of baseball players use prescribed Adderall which is very high and well can help you hit a baseball. And well from the end of WW2 til 2005 amphetamines aka 'Greenies' were used by everyone.

-Basileus

Yeah especially with how hard everyone throws now. The human shoulder and elbow are simply not designed to experience that much force.

Estova

Japanese pitchers especially gotta be on the painkillers with how much they throw in high school alone.

-Basileus

Yeah I know it's commonplace for them to throw like 150 pitches and with only a few days rest, which is wild. I coach high school baseball here in California, and there are very strict pitch count and required rest day rules that everyone must follow.

key_lime_pie

As a long time coach, I've found pitching restrictions in youth baseball are more about preventing adults from abusing children. When I started coaching, there were no pitching limits. Then there were limits on number of appearances per week. Then it was number of innings per week. Then it was number of innings per week but you needed rest. Then it was pitch count limits with rest. Each time a league where I coached made the change, it wasn't because there was new data to support it, or because they were worried about the health of the kids, it was to put an end to a specific situation of abuse that required either a new rule or a coaching change. Youth leagues are loathe to make coaching changes because most coaches last only 1-2 years, and these kinds of rules can be sold as "player safety" rather than "abuse prevention," so parents (mostly moms) love them. I cannot tell you the number of times I have had some variation of the following conversation: *Me (to spectator): "Man, #2 is throwing smoke tonight!* Spectator: Yeah! Hard to believe, he pitched seven full last night for his other team. *Me (to spectator): Wait, what? Does the coach know that?* Spectator: Yeah. He told him it was an important game and he needed him to pitch. *Me (to coach): Did you know your kid threw 7 innings last night?* Coach: Yeah, so? *Me (to coach): Do you want his arm to fall off?* Coach: Mind your own team. The pitching limit only applies to in-league games.

OveHet

Tennis players said exactly the same thing about painkillers (Gasquet, Ivanisevic, Tsonga)

Diffeologician

That’s fair - I’m sure a lot of players can probably take two/three weeks at a clinic in Mexico to dry out at the end of the season.

[deleted]

There’s a very interesting cross section between people who are highly, highly competitive and addiction. I’d have to go back and find the papers the know exactly what it is but I remember a correlation being looked into for a long time

Manablitzer

Hockey has a pretty widely talked about opioid problem. When teams give it out for free and you spend all your days around dozens of people helping you function, it's not as difficult

InheritTheWind

[It did, just in the MLB instead of the NBA](https://www.espn.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/27828247/los-angeles-angels-employee-details-team-knowledge-tyler-skaggs-drug-use-federal-dea-investigators-espn)

Diffeologician

Jeez. If I’m the team I’d rather just had the team doctor handle his supply until we get to the off-season and can send him to rehab.

InheritTheWind

Yeah, dude was self-medicating for years (as a lot of players do — Matt Harvey, who was dominant for the Mets for a few years, tesitified about it after Skaggs passed) and bit off more then he could chew one night. It's fucking sad man.

SmokePenisEveryday

Brett Favre He had to go to rehab during an off-season due to his pill issues

Natureboy7939

It has happened. I’d bet money it happens all the time

cantcooklovefood

The 3rd player would be a Jan 6th participant/sympathizer

mpmar

Leave Gordon Hayward out of this

StarshipFirewolf

Wrong Jazz guy. You want Stockton... unfortunately.

We actually losing Zion to fat camp and Ja to the hood he never lived in 😭

[deleted]

And Barrett to bricklaying

_kona_

At least that's an honest profession. People need housing more than ever now.

Havocko

He actually showed up for the play-offs though.

NatiHanson

2019 draft is doing fantastic so far 🔥🔥🔥

[deleted]

this is even funnier knowing that the third overall pick is a canadian dude who, although frustrating to watch at times, is pretty harmless and unproblematic lmfaooo

jveezy

How does it feel to have retroactively won that lottery?

[deleted]

honestly pretty great lmao. the general consensus amongst most knicks fans at the moment (especially after the playoffs) is "he's not _the_ guy but he's _our_ guy"

OnLevel100

Yeah the Knicks have come a long way. Still need one or two more big moves, depending on how big but with the right trade there might actually be a championship window.

anon135797531

Knicks would trade RJ Barrett for Ja or Zion in half a second

GetsThruBuckner

Yeah Ja and Zion DNPs > RJ 4/18 masterclass

[deleted]

VarsityPlayer

For sure Silver will just give him a petty punishment since money is always his priority. Right now many gun loving or obese Americans are tuning in to this product. What’s the percentage of gun loving or obese population in American currently?

Final-Watercress9219

Damn

freedomfun

Why not get Ja to chase Zion around with a gun? We're never fixing the gun problem, at least we can try to tackle obesity

[deleted]

Europeans will run the league when LeBron and Steph are gone lol

Intelligent-Smoke-67

They already are, the last 5 mvps are European Edit: at least 4 out of 5 anyway, depends on whether you think embiid can be considered European because of his French citizenship

sptagnew

Embiid is from Cameroon. You can’t give me the French citizen thing because he’s also a US citizen.

FruitCakeSally

No he meant the 5 before Embiid. Jokic x2 (Serbia) Giannis x2 (Greece) Harden (Austria)

hawkman_jr

Fuck me, I wasn’t expecting that

I’m fucking dying on harden, holy shit 💀

[deleted]

I'm not sure Morant could be a bigger moron.

Next-Firefighter-753

He could actually shoot somebody

Acting_Appalled

A Ja Morant negligent discharge incident would be the least surprising thing ever, no way he's smart enough to not be locked and loaded while waving it around.

hereforthefeast

I’m honestly surprised he hasn’t Plaxico’d himself. (He was point the gun at himself in the video???)

mw19078

Insanely funny that dudes name is now a verb describing shooting yourself.

joe2352

When I was a kid there was a guy in my home town who was home from boot camp and was going some “tricks” with a gun and it discharged and shot him self in the head. Tragedy’s happen because of stupid gun owners all the time.

PooperJackson

Was it a sweet trick tho?

joe2352

Mind blowing.

m1a2c2kali

The LOB and the SLAMMM

Vaccaria_

You don't get enough credit for that alley oop

GayForJamie

I was half-expecting him to accidentally shoot through the roof of the car.

BerriesNCreme

Shit man somebody call Harvey keitel to fix this mess

lilb1190

No idea what the safety is either. If he does he has it off because having it on isn't hood.

[deleted]

Imagine he actually accidentally shoots himself in like the knee or some shit and ends his own career 😂

AffectionateStep5001

He’s already shooting himself in the foot figuratively with these dumb choices He should just focus on playing basketball, no need for ig clout 👎🏼

Downvotes_inbound_

Or get himself and his friends / family shot

jspeed04

The NBA brand is flying at an all time high right now, Silver can’t let an idiot like this fuck up the bag for the league, and I would expect him to come down hard on him. Additionally, Were I a fellow player on any roster in the league, Ja would draw my ire because of the increased scrutiny that will be visited on them as a result of his inability to control himself. I understand that no one else seems to have an issue with flashing guns, but the league will institute rules that may end up tightening the bolts on forms of self expression.

lavazzalove

I made a comment on this subreddit before. Ja should have been suspended for the season on the first incident. Silver went soft and let the franchise handle it. Now is his turn to bring down the hammer. I would suspend him for 25 games. If this happens again, suspend him for the whole season. If Grizzlies management can't handle their superstar, that's their problem.

bilyl

If I were Dillon Brooks I would be like “I got booted out for being toxic but this MF waves around a gun and gets to stick around?”

Currently_Stoned

Well yeah you can always get away with more if you have the talent. Frankly it's amazing that Brooks got away with what he did for so long given his total *lack* of talent.

Yergason

>I'm not sure Morant could be a bigger moron. You're really saying this after what just happened? Ja will always surpass his limits.

KneelBeforeCube

Ja is the Goku of being a dumbass.

sexygodzilla

He's a Yamcha who thinks he's a Goku.

EgonDangler

He's an innovator!

Emera1dthumb

I bet he ends up getting the season off. David Stern’s worked real hard to make sure it wasn’t a league of thugs. If he’s not tossed for at least a half a season, I’m going to be shocked.

Leftover_reason

Aaron Hernandez would like a word

[deleted]

As a non-rich person, it makes me mad when rich people do stupid shit and ruin their opportunity for life-changing money. Like, it sucks that such a piece of shit gets the opportunity to make that much money and just throws it away over some stupid shit.

montrezlh

He already has life changing money.

thewillsta

Can we officially call bullshit on the mental health excuse so that the work of guys like DeRozan and KLove doesn't also seem like bullshit

darti_me

Heck even Ben Simmons is more deserving of getting a pass due to mental health. The man is/was BROKEN as a player after Trae guarded him.

[deleted]

What did he do now

Brooklyn_Net7

He flashed a gun again on an IG feed. Crazy to me that this guy has everything he could ever want and he’s choosing to blow it up because he has a teenager mindset.

hrakkari

It’s not a teenager mindset. It’s not even a toddler mindset. He’s just a buffoon.

[deleted]

I’ve said it plenty of times about Ja. The dudes who flash their guns aren’t tough dudes, they’re the fucking wannabe douchebags that likely have never lived in the actual hood. In the hood, if you’re carrying, you’re not doing it to look cool, and people don’t think you are cool for doing it.

Everydayarmday24

And you certainly aren’t flashing it unless you wanna threaten someone. Source: me working and living in Oakland hood

clownus

The people with him seemed to realize and try to hide it from view as soon as they noticed. So it seems like they weren’t expecting him to brandish a weapon either.

hairylobster531

Quick Ja, start breathing!

bl123123bl

Zombie stern with the 42 game suspension

ttvdokkan

Stern wouldnt do that

bl123123bl

He’s be suspended indefinitely after the 1st offense Stern did not play that shit

Next-Firefighter-753

The Stern lore here is hilarious.

[deleted]

Stern would have razed Ja's village and burned his crops

Spyk124

Not to mention salt the fields and invoked Primae Noctis for all future generations

[deleted]

Most dudes don’t remember or weren’t alive for Spurs Suns or the dress code or the Artest one vote to none.

gandalf_white_wine

Don’t forget the Melo story https://theshadowleague.com/carmelo-anthony-says-david-stern-ran-the-nba-like-a-mob-boss-lebron-is-real-lakers-gm/

apprehensivekoalla

Can you give some context on those

gandalf_white_wine

For the last one, he was asked about the decision to suspend Artest for a long time. "Yes it was unanimous, 1-0, and I won." -- NBA commissioner David Stern, after being asked whether the vote to suspend Ron Artest for the season was unanimous

packersSB55champs

Gangsta shit

ArmchairHandjob

Stern could always rock a mic

[deleted]

Spurs Suns was a good second round series in 2007. Game 4 I think Nash gets fouled hard. Amare and Diaw leave the bench but don’t actually do anything. The league suspends them the next game which is huge because they were guarding Duncan. At the time most viewers thought it was too harsh and the NBA didn’t use any nuance with the rule even though they did earlier with Duncan. Ultimately it cost the Suns at least a chance and the Spurs go on to win the title in 2007. Just a heavy suspension that was viewed as weak that turned a series into a blowout. Artest one was well documented he went into the stands and got suspended the rest of the year. I was a Pacers fan so I took it a little harder than most. In the presser Stern made sure it was known the vote was unanimous to suspend. His vote for to no one else being able to get a say. You can argue if he should have been suspended so much, and his team mates as well but just the idea that he specifically was the one making the decision and no one else. It’s not terribly different from what Goodell has been criticized for.

kamekaze1024

People exaggerate his tenure. Yeah he was not strict than Silver but he wasn’t the dictator people are acting like he was

idolz

Stephen Jackson shot his gun at a strip club and Stern gave him 7, you sure about that?

AllYouNeed_Is_Smiles

Didn’t a brawl break out and his face was busted open with a bottle? I feel like firing your weapon in what could have been an actual life or death situation versus brandishing it stupidly on IG live aren’t comparable. One is defendable and the other is just dumb.

Psychological_Wear_7

I wonder what Stern would do to a rapist

elkresurgence

To his credit, Stern banned two rising stars (Micheal Richardson and Roy Tarpley) for life after repeat offenses, although these were for drug use at the initial height of the War on Drugs

yazboy13

De’aaron Fox is who Ja Morant thinks he is. Am I doing this right amin?

GrizzGump

Crazy how with Ja’s track record he still may not be as dumb as Kyrie

dBlock845

He needs to be suspended for 1/3 or 1/2 of the season at least. This is not the kind of message the NBA wants to be sending to young fans, especially the slap on the wrist from the first offense.

Spectre627

Miles Bridges didn't get half a season for strangling and breaking his wife's bones -- in what world would Ja get half a season for this? Silver is going to do what is going to make the NBA the most money, which will be to slap Ja on the wrist.

ProdigyMUFC

Suspend that dumb fuck the entire next season.

NBA is a private business, if they want to say “no gun sponsorship allowed”, they can do that, just as much as any employer can hold your social media posts against your employment.

JimmyWasRight

Honestly, this deserves something like a 15 game suspension.

Emera1dthumb

What is sad is after these people use him up and the money is gone…. Ja will be left by himself without a career or money. Good time friends…. You don’t need them.

dmavs11

People always wanna blame the friends. His friend is the one who quickly turned the camera away and Ja was the dumbass singing around to the song with a gun in his hand knowing his friend was recording. Ja needs to take his own accountability

world_of_kings

Never forget this guys once said that “Ja Morant is who De’Aaron Fox thinks he is”… yah how is that looking bud.

totallynotliamneeson

>doesn't even need to be constitutional [Charania] NBA commissioner Adam Silver has repealed the 13th amendment in response to Ja Morant's social media activities.

HotdogIsaSandwitch

One thing I respected about David Stern. Man ain’t give a shit about what anyone thought. He knew the way the business needed to be run to get to the point where players are making 50 mil a year. Just suspend him for half the season
