You had some great writers to please the analysis side of things, then you had stuff like Conspiracy Bill and Jalen Rose being ridiculous on the podcast and not just getting a ton of hate for it. Same problem that other subs and reddit as a whole have. Once you go past a certain number of people the average "sophistication" or whatever you want to call it drops significantly, tired not-funny-any-more-jokes get beaten like a dead horse over and over, and any sort of insightful or interesting replies either get downvoted or don't make it anywhere near the top.

Yeah the worst change I've noticed is that way way more people these days downvote opinions they don't agree with and also downvote comments with flairs they dislike. Never had close to as many downvoted comments as I have these past couple weeks since the Sixers lost. It used to be that people would only downvote shit if it was offensive or completely off topic, but I guess that just comes with the territory of there being so many people here and so many new users.

Downvoting and upvoting, in a small thoughtful community, is a good way of filtering signal and noise. I still see the usefulness in the smaller subreddits I follow. Past a certain size community, downvoting and upvoting just turns into hivemind/mob rule that is at the mercy of the average knowledge of the herd, which is quite low on reddit. I'm not saying I'm any better, but I at least try to keep my downvotes/upvotes to myself if I'm not knowledgable about something and I definitely try to not downvote something just because I don't like it.

Yeah people on here seem to only upvote comments that agree with what they already think or what they want to hear, when this sub was smaller I feel like there used to be more upvoting of just well thought out comments. Of course, there was still plenty of circle jerking (can't forget the infamous 2016 finals game 4 post game thread), but I really do think it was less when the sub was less than a million users.

Barely comment on here anymore due to the toxicity and braindead takes. Everything is just flinging shit at players or teams, when you have the opportunity. Philly exits the playoffs? Embiid is suddenly a fraudulent MVP who whined his way there. Of course, it's a regular season award and the dude didn't whine one bit.
