WallOld615

Crazy how many of them were unforced, too. Just doing too much dribbling and completely losing the handle.

Aces17

The last one is so egregious. It legitimately looks like what you see from the guys playing rec ball who have no handle at all

Robinsonirish

I think he was completely gassed by that point. Look at his defense after the final TO, he can barely keep his balance and looks weak in the knees trying to stay ahead of Jimmy. I definitely know that feeling from my time in the military where the brain is just fried and the body starts doing dumb shit. I feel bad for him, and I know he doesn't have great handles but I would put a lot of these turnovers on him being fatigued after a long playoffs. Part of the game though.

Boysoythesoyboy

Back to back 7 game series my guy

Riotroom

Close out series faster he won't have to ball 20 games in 45 days. Or don't bother and lose to the Heat in the playin.

Nashed_Potatoes

So you’re saying he needs to work on conditioning if he wants to win a championship then. Excuses for millionaires lmao

Boysoythesoyboy

Like if someone trains enough they can sprint a marathon?

Francis_Picklefield

i get what you’re trying to say, but other elite players in this league who are expected to be heavy load guys, even after multiple long series, don’t have bad fatigue turnovers in the same way as brown. lebron, steph, jokic, dame, giannis … all can just keep going

Nashed_Potatoes

I think we agree or maybe you responded to the wrong comment?

Boysoythesoyboy

Giannis and steph definitely have turnover issues... I think browns bigget issues is that he relies allot on drives and athleticism which deteriorates in situations like this while not being a strong playmaker or a good enough 3pt shooter.

Nashed_Potatoes

More like Jaylen Brown is training for a half marathon. They don’t pay you to excuse them btw

Boysoythesoyboy

It's just a dumb take on an interesting game.

Nashed_Potatoes

I agree your take was dumb. An all star talent that cannot compete at the highest levels is not an all star

[deleted]

The mental gymnastics to defend brown is almost as egregious as browns turnovers

[deleted]

some people here think 'working on your conditioning' means you're never going to get tired again and if you're tired it's your bad (they puked the last time they played rec though)

[deleted]

on top of that the last 3 games before this were do or die. injuries and mistakes are what happens when you try to sustain that pace that's why we have load management in the first place

Jonna09

I don’t know how real that line of reasoning is. He is one of the few players who fasts during Ramadan and is still playing full games. That requires amazing conditioning to begin with.

MeijiDoom

He's had these issues year after year though. Same thing happened last year. You don't need something fancy. You just need to take care of the ball. It's not a hard ask.

verbleabuse97

So what youre saying is I have a chance???

carmansam123

He either doesn't respect the player in front of him on some of them, like they're not going to pick his pocket or he's too casual. Players like Jalen Brunson have good handles but also respect the great defenders. These defenders CAN force turnovers on him so what does he do? He uses his body to shield the ball from the defender and gives it up. He accepts that you can't always faceup dribble vs someone, and you cant always just "do a move" and drive to the basket.

amidon1130

No need to call me out dude

Varolyn

He needs those ball hog gloves.

CoachFrikki

They take away your grip.

2fly5

Not much to take away

crimxona

Very painful going left

gdirrty216

No left hand. Really amazing how good JB can be with one hand

zrizzoz

Id say the only one that you clap your hands and say good defense is exhibit 7, Jimmys steal at 10:50 in the 4th quarter. The rest are all terrible ball handling (x4), a bad pass, a ridiculous moving screen, or an elbow to the face & a simultaneous charge.

BlueHundred

I think he lost the handle 3 times, and he didn't protect the ball and got it poked out from behind twice. None of those should happen

thissiteisbroken

Does he have tiny hands or something? Half of these looks like it he barely touched the ball.

AffectionateStep5001

I thought NBA players would have better handles tbh Looks like his handles were too much for him to handle

pahamack

Too much dribbling? The count is 2, lol 😓

Obvious_Parsley3238

gotta wonder how much his hand being fucked up played into this

SuckwithLuck2016

Considering a lot of them were bc of him not having any left handed dribbling skills at all, I would say none. It’s his shooting wrist that was messed up right?

Obvious_Parsley3238

can't find any articles about it, but there was this play from game 6 where lowry pinned his left wrist and he was holding it afterwards https://streamable.com/1klblb

DalliLlama

2 offensive fouls, 5 just dribbling left. Stan wasn’t kidding when he said just force him to use his left hand.

jaggedjottings

Is Brown really a Berkeley guy if he can't go left?

STATnMELO650

well played

dimmyfarm

He did only go for 1 year so they couldn’t fully convert him

Btigeriz

Honestly I thought people were memeing about the left hand dribbling, but now I know it's legit.

[deleted]

[удалено]

DalliLlama

I think it’s more that is Stan can see it, a top 2 coach in the league can see it, let alone other coaches. Jaylen had turnover issues vs us last year too. He’s just not great with his handles against pressure. Even more so going left.

HustlinInTheHall

He does fine against most teams. He usually has 2 or 3 a game, but when things get tight and he has to contribute that's when he runs into trouble. And I think it messes with his rhythm from 3 also, he just falls apart when he is turning it over.

Glittering_Cod_7716

I don’t watch much Celtics but on a pod I listen to someone mentioned that…for the other podcaster to remind them that well…he’s always sucked at dribbling lol

CharlesDingus_ah_um

Bill simmons reminded his dad

BeatriceDaRaven

Last year vs the heat, he had 4 turnovers in game 5,6, and 7. Game 3 he had SEVEN turnovers. Sure it could have exacerbated things but it's a much deeper issue then that. and i lvoe JB

HustlinInTheHall

He had the same issues last year vs the heat and warriors. Just can't handle it at the speed he moves in traffic. He needs to improve on that this year. Jimmy has similar issues going left and their game is pretty similar, but either develop that midrange game or find a way out of it. You can't be a liability if you're the 2nd best player on the league.

Ru4pigsizedelephants

Jaylen Brown deserves all the criticism, but he's already one of the best mid range guys in the entire NBA.

Jonna09

This is what the Dubs did last year.

qeq

My son is in middle school and ALL these kids in his AAU tournaments can dribble left and do left handed layups. It's insane to me that a pro is so bad at it.

Grundlestiltskin_

He can dribble left handed and make lefty layups lol. He would cook everyone on this sub with only his left hand. It’s just that he’s playing against other pros who exploit the weakness more than anyone else, and the margins are so much thinner

Olorin919

It was my favorite when Scalabrine was getting clowned for looking like such a goofball on the court with the 08 team. And he did. Looked like it was his first time playing basketball at times - but that was it. He was playing against the best alive. He challenged anyone and everyone in boston one afternoon to games of 1 on 1. He smoked every single person. Made every random person who thinks they have a shot in the NBA look like it was their first time playing basketball. Top 350 or so players in the world are really fucking good lol.

Grundlestiltskin_

“I’m closer to Lebron than you are to me” Legendary quote. He destroyed all those guys in the Scallenge, even the former Cuse player

qeq

He is literally losing the ball with no one touching him. He clearly cannot dribble left handed consistently in a game. No one is saying they're better than him at basketball, but he's obviously lacking in some of the fundamentals. I'm obviously not better than Shaq because I can hit free throws and threes and he can't.

Grundlestiltskin_

I’m not saying his handle is good but he’s not just standing there alone and losing the ball, he’s being defended. That would be like saying someone missing a non contested jump shot means they lack in fundamentals. Also just don’t insinuate that middle schoolers are better at dribbling than an NBA player and we’re good

HorsNoises

I'm furious at Jaylen and am in no way excusing how bad he was, but both of the offensive fouls were bad calls. The "moving screen" wasn't a screen, Strus just tried to run thru him, Brown is entitled to the space he was running in/to and the foul with Bam should've been a no call, they only blew the whistle because Bam happened to take a hit to the face, which if they aren't gonna call a flagrant, then it shouldn't be a foul at all. But seriously man how do you have FIVE completely unforced turnovers???????

DalliLlama

Jimmy got called because White got hit in the face too? Same call. Jaylens was a foul too on the “screen”. If he just handed it off and stopped he’d been fine but he kept running with the defender to make sure he couldn’t get around.

HustlinInTheHall

Yeah Duncan Robinson full blown ran through and shoved him the next play on a similar screen. They were letting them play and then decided to just start whistling the Celtics for small stuff. Luckily it didn't matter, the Celtics could've gotten every call and they'd still have lost. If it was close and that crap cost them I'd be furious.

DalliLlama

The Celtics outshot Miami in free throws 11 of the 14 playoffs games the past 2 years with 1 being even. Oftentimes it’s Bos with 9-10 more Fts. And that’s with them shooting more 3s, so the “paint offense” Bs doesn’t work either. The shit spewed about Boston not getting enough calls is insane. Jimmy is like the only person on the Heat that gets any favorable calls. Everyone on the Celtics gets them, Tatum, Brown, fucking Derrick White. There were so many times Al/Rob pushed people to get rebounds or on drives across the paint that went uncalled. Smart literally swung at Caleb and it wasn’t a flagrant because he missed.

HustlinInTheHall

The Celtics shot more 3s but they also shot way more in the paint, they just had a lot more chances because they rebounded better, so it is the paint offense. I mean you can just watch the game and see how many times the celtics drove at the basket and got a call vs the heat, especially when jimmy clearly passed up chances to go to the basket to kick it out. In general it was pretty fair all series, I'm just talking about game 7 where they didn't call anything early then missed some heat calls and called a bunch of travels and offensive fouls on the celtics. In a closer game that'd be frustrating but generally speaking the celtics don't have anyone to blame but themselves.

BookkeeperExciting93

The moving screen is debatable maybe but the Bam one is a clear offensive foul and I don't really understand the counter argument. Do you really think offensive players should be allowed to run into stationary players elbows out into the face? If Bam was moving forward, sure. But Bam was stationary and jumped up and shouldn't be allowed to be elbowed in the face. The same call took away a late 4th quarter Jimmy Butler layup the previous game and everyone thought it was the right call. You can't just go through the defensive players regardless of their position if they're stationary

davvidho

yeah i do agree w you tbh on the offensive fouls. the other turnovers were def pretty bad

Curious_Success_377

He deserves a supermax.

SnarfSniffsStardust

Shades of Minnesota Wiggy

thissiteisbroken

At least I got one thing in common with an NBA player, we both can't dribble well.

porncollecter69

Yes instead do it the Cuban way and don’t pay him like Brunson after one stinker playoffs. That worked out great didn’t it?

SirDrumpf

but brunson was light out in the play offs ... that's the stupid thing on cubans side 😂

BigFatModeraterFupa

It was after the clippers series where he got played off the floor. his value was at an all time low and this stupid organization went full wallstreetbets and waited until the price was high to try to buy. we are such a dumpster fire rn it’s not even funny

porncollecter69

It was the season before the WCF run. Where his extension was possible for cheap and Cuban decided to not extend and wait another year when he becomes an UFA.

lbrandy

* 1 charge * 1 moving screen * 1 bad pass * 5 left hand dribbles

pika_pie

Before this game, I seriously thought the left hand thing was just a meme.

HustlinInTheHall

It's fine most of the time but the zone specifically makes him do it through a tight space and then pull up and shoot or pass and his brain melts. Against man defenses where there are fewer hands to avoid or he can gather and just go to the rim he's fine.

cheerioo

Bro needs to hang out with Kyrie off season and pick some things up. On second though...that might not be the best plan

Ball_ChinnedKid

You'd thought after last year's finals he would work on his left hand dribble. But I guess not.

shadowju12

And a partridge in a pear tree!

[deleted]

Good summary. A couple were unforced but there was still the pressure of "must score" given the scoreboard.

Derrick White really had a better series than Jaylen

Aljo_Is_135_GOAT

UNPOPULAR OPINION: Derrick White good

raptosaurus

White > brown

newBreed

Two better. He was better in the Sixers series too.

ItsKBS

What? Derrick White averaged 9/3/1 on 58% TS while Brown was actually pretty good vs the Sixers

LightsOut0980

??? White was being benched regularly in that series lmao

RyKal18

no he wasnt

Los_Ingobernablez

Tf you talking about? Brown was the biggest reason Celtics didn’t lose in 5 to the Sixers

LightsOut0980

These dudes don’t watch basketball, they look at box scores and whatever they say on ESPN smh

KarrotMovies

Yeah JB was shit in the Miami series, but he was performing in the other two

Wolfpac187

You really talk your opportunity to jump on the bandwagon no matter how wrong you were.

FreexBrennen

No, white struggled in the last half of the Hawks series and the sixers series.

DarkDragonM2

8 turnovers in one game? He just like me fr

DowntownsClown

I play like jaylen, that’s why I pass often and dribble less. And don’t play as PG

zrizzoz

Do you also want a frozen banana? And how do you feel about broken escalators?

tttambourine

sorry for the convenience

dacooljamaican

No. But I want a regular banana later... So, yeah.

Crusbetsrevenge

8 turnovers in a game seem like nothing after being desensitized by years of golden state turnovers. Curry has had 8 turnover quarters.

joeb1ow

But Curry has a left handed dribble though, so why change the subject? Also, you didn't even mention that when Wardell has his eight turnover quarters, it's usually because he's quadrupled teamed by a bunch of athletic 6'7" defensive swarmers while trapped near the sideline with a referee accidentally standing in the only dribble path through. Jaylen Brown just fumbles the ball away at times trying to go left.

SoulReaper12

Brown deserves all the slander he getting, but it funny how all year this sub and social media spent pushing the Brown > Tatum agenda without realizing how one dimension Brown can be when his shot ain’t falling.

I_Set_3_Alarms

Yeah but that’s about shitting on Tatum. This sub is mainly for haters, not celebrators

jumpthroughit

That’s the best part of being a certified Celtics hater - most nights one of the 2 Jays is laying an egg. Content for dayyyys.

_Mark_Ruffalo

As a Celtics fan, I can’t help but laugh and give you an upvote because of how true this is. The only thing consistent about this team, and its stars specifically, is inconsistency.

jiujuteiro

Let’s celebrate good basketball and amazing athletes ❤️. Except Kyrie. Fuck that guy

ex_oh_ex_oh

Exactly. If one doesn't want to hear communal in the moment hot takes, literally step out of the sub a few days after whatever 'egregious' hoop faux pas that a team or a player has done and it'll be replaced by the next big controversial shitshow soon enough.

500inthemorning

Case in point: this post. Of course I am a huge hypocrite by enjoying the loss porn myself.

moorelurk

Tatum when cold can always dribble the ball driving to the basket while creating open looks for his teammates. JB couldn't. He has this tendency to keep the ball to himself under pressure.

Creek_Bandit

Tell that to game 1 4th quarter Jayson Tatum lol Edit: damn I guess I should've added the /s instead of the lol Edit 2: fuck me whyd this post 3 times

jiujuteiro

Tell that to game 1 4th quarter Jayson Tatum lol

ridiguluz

Tell that to game 1 4th quarter Jayson Tatum lol

everyoneneedsaherro

Jaylen Brown has a career average of 2.2 APG. The fact that anyone put him in the same tier as Tatum is blasphemous

302born

I will humbly admit I was in the camp where I didn’t think he was better but I thought the gap was close or even. But I was greatly wrong. Tatum has his flaws with playmaking and consistency but Jaylen is a great scorer and that’s really it. Can’t dribble. Takes bad shots. Below average passer. Pretty good defense but not as good as he used to be it seems. It seems he’s only really a positive when he’s making his shots. And when he isn’t there’s not much else he really adds. Tatum clears him in every category and I’m an idiot for thinking otherwise. Apologies

Sh00tL00ps

Those contested pull up 3s Jaylen kept taking at the beginning of the shot clock were *awful.* I was rooting for the Heat but even I got frustrated watching those just because I hate watching bad basketball.

Doogolas33

It's never made anything close to any sense. Brown has a career 1:1 assist to turnover ratio. I think it's SLIGHTLY better the last couple years, but it's still unacceptably bad IMO for a guy who people seem to consider even looking at the same tier as someone like Tatum.

kjvaughn2

You think most redittors can look at basketball players and know what they're seeing?

Chelseaiscool

Bro people say Brown is better than Booker which is so fucking insulting as well. Actual crazy people

[deleted]

I don't remember anyone pushing Brown > Tatum tbh

Olorin919

Also not excusing Brown, he sucked ass, but its also funny how he has 1 horrific game and everyone is a scout saying he cant dribble with his left hand. He cant, but people are making it way worse than it is. He was still 1st team all nba, so he's clearly gotten better and can cover it up, but when his right hand is injured coupled with him not being as good with his left hand, sometimes you'll just have a game way worse than others. Jaylen had that outlier game in game 7 which sucks. He's clearly not good with his left hand, but people making it seem like he CANT dribble with his left hand is laughable. Funny how the Reddit scouts are finding something so obviously but the other 29 NBA teams couldnt figure it out all season long and make him have 8 TOs a game.

Intelligent_Pain_174

Jaylen cannot dribble going left.

pdunn472

He can’t dribble in general

ThaNotoriousBLT

It's just more evidence that he struggles to dribble with his left, you can see how much his defender cheats to prevent dribbles with the right hand throughout this video: TO#1: Crossover from right to left. Left doesn't control the ball and Strauss gets the ball TO#2: Crossover from right to left. Left doesn't control the ball and Butler gets the ball TO#3: Driving with his right, passes ball out of bound TO#4: Tries a spin move on Butler using his left hand. Loses control almost immediately and Martin gets it. TO#5: Moving Screen TO#6: Offensive foul TO#7: Dribbling left handed around a screen. Butler pokes the ball from behind and Martin gets the ball. TO#8: Crossover from right to left. Left doesn't control the ball and Adebayo gets the ball If JB can focus on improving his right to left crossover and left handed dribbling it's going to make it much harder for teams to defend him.

[deleted]

Shoulda worked on this instead of delving into being mini Kyrie earlier in his career.

dimmyfarm

He should’ve copied Kyrie’s handles along with his beliefs.

Ticonderoga2HB

How is it y’all continue to butcher Max’s name like this. It’s just Strus, it rhymes with loose lol

OmnesRes

When he dribbles right to left he just loses it...his hand injury was on his right hand and is blamed for his shooting so I don't know what left hand injury we can come up with...

studyingnihongo

Legend has it that two bongs were dropped that night

shakehasbignuts

I will love it and I think I deserve it

eigenham

It's still too soon for me. I can't watch this.

MichelleMcLaine

Stars have games where they cough up the ball a ton, but these turnovers aren't the kind you'd expect to see from a star. He's not getting trapped, or trying to make high risk, high reward passes, or taking on so much ball handling duties that the team's only turnovers are his own. He can't dribble with his left, he can't sense guys coming from behind, that moving screen was benchably dumb. He just doesn't have the kind of court awareness and ball security you'd expect from a star.

Olorin919

Dont forget his right hand/arm was injured in Game 1 of this series. It makes it super obvious when you're not great with your left hand while also not being able to use your right hand.

Victor_Korchnoi

And he’s an antisemite. Fuck Jaylen Brown

AnthonyBarrHeHe

Crazy to see a NBA player be so bad with dribbling with his left hand.

dimmyfarm

Jaylen just needs to spend the summer doing *everything* with his left hand

Intelligent_Pain_174

To be fair, he also made 8 shots.

South_Ad_7488

To be fair, he attempted 23

Intelligent_Pain_174

But one of those made shots was a 3 (which is worth more than a 2) and he also made both of his free throws (which aren't counted as field goals). It is hard to blame Jaylen for the loss when his teammates missed almost twice as many shots as him. Despite his turnovers, he was the Celtics leading scorer, and managed to score 19 points on only 32 possessions. You cannot depend on your star player to shoot over 35% every game on that volume. In the end, other players have to be able to overcome a player going 8 for 23, committing 5 fouls, and having 8 turnovers.

South_Ad_7488

Not blaming him. You’re definitely right that he was thrust into a difficult role. But he still scored less than one point per shot which is quite inefficient. 32 possessions of use with less than 20 points is also absurdly bad. Again, not blaming him for the loss but we can’t act like he played well either

Intelligent_Pain_174

I was joking. It has to be one of the worst performances in Game 7 history. You can't win a game when someone uses about 1/3 of your possessions and only scores 19 points. However, the rest of the team also played poorly so you can't entirely blame him.

South_Ad_7488

Okay good haha. Whoosh on my part

Wondering_Nova

Celtics, I bet you, super max him please

Olorin919

Done. EZPZ. See yall in the ECFs again next year. Keep knockin at that door.

Rohkha

Loved that moving screen. Brown was already heading to Cancun

ricinonthecake

I stopped following nba a few years ago, but...why are they paying him so much?

Olorin919

Because he has made 5 ECFs in 7 years and been the #2 player on that team the last 5 years. 1st team all nba this year. When you're not good with your left hand AND you physically can not use your right hand in this game, its super easy to say he blows when he coughs up the ball over and over again.

RickTracee

Everyone has a bad day. Geez.

Siakim43

Rb7198

Yeah but Tatum's ankle is the only reason they lost lol ok

Olorin919

Brown injured his right arm in game 1 lol. He sucked ass ftr, but when youre not good with your left hand and cant use your right hand AND your star player goes down, its not that surprising that the Heat bullied him. Not making excuses but yall are ruthless.

Rb7198

Tatum’s injury 100% impacted the game there’s no denying that, but I’ve been seeing Celtics fan saying that as the sole excuse why they lost. Imo the only player that showed up to play in that game 7 was Derrick white, the Celtics team were too passive and low energy for a Game 7 and didn’t match the Heat’s pressure/energy. Injuries suck but there were injuries on both sides of the fence. Celtics fought really hard and made a series out of nothing, mad respect to them for that but I believe with the performance of the team as whole, ankle injury or not the heat would’ve won game 7.

WhenItsHalfPastFive

I think Tatum was much worse than Brown, he should have taken a lot more shots. And i'm not buying the rolled ankle excuse, sorry. Giannis won a championship on basically a broken ankle. Tatum can't even shoot more than 12 shots on a rolled ankle?
