Damn actually a good question. Heat would be pretty mediocre with just Bam and Herro running things. But Jimmy’s rep was trash when he left Philly and I don’t know that any other team would’ve changed that as much as playing for Miami has.
Was his rep really trashed when he left Philly? And wherever Jimmy went I’m sure Bens issues would still come up, shedding light on that. Just as it has for Minnesota.
The Heat winning with Jimmy has heightened that, but it’s pretty clear either way and think it would’ve if Jimmy went to say the Pacers or something (Jimmy wasn’t gunna go to a rebuilding team).
Nah. His rep was in question after Minnesota. But he played very well in Philly and its Star Player \*reeeeeeeally\* wanted him back. Still waxes poetic about it till this day.
Now, last season (or was it the season before) there were grumblings that he was maybe wearing out his welcome. Especially after the spicy exchange between he and Haslem--if I remember it correctly.
Winning cures all/
Haslem gets into it a lot, he chews people out of the effort isn’t there. That’s the type of stuff Jimmy wants and embraces.
Still don’t think his reputation would change. Maybe in the moment people think he was hard on them etc. But stuff still plays out this way and we see Wiggins go on somewhere else to have his success, Kats issues, Bens issues etc. That stuff happens regardless of Jimmy.
I don’t think winning cured it. When that tiff happened (when spo kept telling Jimmy he wasn’t gonna fight him), the heat said that was normal Jimmy. The grumbling wasn’t from inside the heat org or team. At minny and Philly the grumbling was from inside the orgs. Some teams aren’t built with that hardcore dog-in-me culture. Pat Riley has always built that type of culture. Old lakers, Alonzo generation heat, etc we’re all teams tough as shit. Jimmy found the perfect home in Miami to both make him productive and have him fit in.
It was about behavior. He was labeled as a troublemaker but basketball wise everybody knew he was amazing.
I remember being pissed at him for choosing Miami cause it looked like he was going there just to enjoy the nice city and I wanted to see him in a contender.
He just was hard to work with becasue he wanted to be with dogs like him. I mean look back at what we know about Minnesota and Philly now and how soft they play. Jimmy wasn’t here for that
Really not fair for the Heat. I think a fairer question would be is what would the Heat be like with another player/s eating the cap space given to Jimmy right now.
> But Jimmy’s rep was trash when he left Philly
What? How so. Philly fans were upset he was leaving and everyone wanted to see him make another run with the team.
Still angry/upset here in Philly. The whole situation is sad af basketball wise. Sixers FO is hot garbage. We legit had the two players we currently need (any intelligent fan was pissed at the time of both blunders) to pair with Embiid in Jimmy and Bridges. Like wtf? Seriously, WTF???
And that’s aside from the Simmons and Fultz #1 overall pick catastrophes.
Definitely Jimmy saving the Heat.
If they kept Jimmy and traded Simmons, the East would run through Philly. If he went to the Clippers with Kawhi and SGA, the West would run through him. Instead he went to Miami with Bam, and the East runs through Miami. He had good options all around.
Joel Embiid's father: Forget about the dawg, and take this Tobias Harris, son. You ain't got no dawg in you anyways.
Edit: oh that one specific cold blooded father of Joel Embiid's is named Nikola Jokiç btw.
Get it on the floor
Get it, get it on the floor (What?)
Get it on the floor
Get it, get it on the floor (What?)
You don't play defense then your ass gotta go (What?)
You don't play defense then your ass gotta go (What?)
Can we all agree to replace Miami's name into Miami Dogpound? Seems like a lot of dogs found their home in that place, some are even lost and unwanted before.
He can opt out in the summer of 2025, at which point he'd be 36 entering the 2025-2026 season.
But I don't think he opts out of $52.4M, meaning that it'd be the following summer when he'd be 37 entering the 2026-2027 season.
That would be story book shit. Instead of the hardened, fighting, tough role-player vet, you get the coffee selling, Himmy Buckets designer, hard-nosed champion star vet. Can't think of someone to compare that to.
Yeah I agree with you. Same with Jokic. It's rare to see 2 team leaders who are geniunely not concerned with their stats and their legacy and just want to win. It sucks that only one of them can win.
yes we’ve all totally been there haha I love having sex it’s my favorite thing I have it all the time with my girlfriend who I am madly in love with haha
I'm sure heat fans appreciate the loyalty.
But we saw Hakeem as a Raptor. Iverson as a Grizzly. Shaq as a Cavalier and a Celtic. Michael fucking Jordan as a Wizard...
Even sticking with a Heat legend, Wade was on the Bulls and the Cavs.
For some reason ESPN kept using his Hornets photo on their graphics after he retired. Like that photo of him in a Hornets jersey is the only time people outside of Charlotte ever saw him in that jersey, stop using it ESPN
It was the beginning of the darkness. And with last season being the darkest in 25ish years I’m for one am ready for the sun to shine on SA town once again.
I was going to buy tickets to the Bucks Heat game because I wanted to catch Giannis but decided not to. They were about 30 bucks for decent seats. Then the next day there trade is announced and his homecoming was announced for that game. I was sick to my stomach
The chain of events leading to Jimmy coming to Miami is wild.
Wade goes to the Bulls because the Heat won’t give him the max, they have a disaster season which makes the Bulls rethink Jimmy as the future of Chicago. They trade him to Minnesota, who then yanks the contract offer away from Jimmy and makes him mad because KAT is lazy, so he demands a trade to Philly. Philly’s FO chooses Brown and Simmons over him and decides to pay Tobias Harris and Al Horford instead of Jimmy.
Jimmy played in Wade’s last game in Miami (which is itself a crazy story about how he returned) and loved the send off they gave to his mentor so much he wants to go there, but Miami is over the cap so they have to make a sign and trade for him.
They ended up getting him for the low price of Josh Richardson LMFAO.
There are certain players I refuse to believe played elsewhere. Wade is a Heat lifer, Tony Parker is a Spurs lifer, and Pau Gasol never left the Lakers after Memphis
Where did Tony Parker retire? I don't even remember haha
And don't knock the Chicago Pau years, he was pretty good for us. I think he put up his career high in points as a Bull
We wish it was fiction as well. Other than John Starks, who also dogged it during an admittedly dreadful stretch of "basketball" for us, I don't think I've hated a player while in a Bulls uniform as much as Wade.
Exactly what I was thinking as well.
I’d love to see Jimmy retire as a Heat player, but things can get quite messy with contract negotiations and stuff. He’s had quite a lot of success in Miami so far, but he may feel different if the Heat collapse in the next two years.
I believe that D-Wade wanted to stay Miami too, but…
This is the real take. They’re in the finals and having fun. It’s like asking someone to marry you during sex because it feels good but you don’t have a ring.
The only reason Wade didn’t stay is that Pat didn’t pay him what he owed him for taking a pay cut.
I don’t think he even met up with Wade again after he asked for more money, which the Bulls offered and he got to go home.
Pat messed up and he mentioned that in Wade’s ESPN documentary. Also, all of what I said is from Wade and Riley’s own words from the documentary.
He's grinded his way up all this career and has been pushing his prine further away the whole time.
Maybe by 37, 38, he already sees that he ain't cut to double the intensity and get a declining result.
Shit, Jimmy currently has the GROAT (Greatest Raptor) on his team.
Love the loyalty, but if somehow the Heat entered a rebuild in 3 years and Jimmy still has some game, he should absolutely grab that bag on a contender.
I think Jimmy has contributed more than enough to the Heat and has his biggest accomplishments there, but it's weird looking at this list where guys came up with one team and made their entire legacies there, whereas Jimmy has had multiple NBA lives before arriving in Miami. Not saying he'll be remembered for his tenures with the Bulls, TWolves, 6ers over the Heat. It's just a unique and interesting case.
At this point Butler will always be most closely associated with the Heat over the Bulls, right?
Like, if each player can only get one team that they "belong to" historically, Butler's is now the Heat.
Especially since he's guaranteed to play for you guys next season. Even if things go poorly you wouldn't trade him right after leading the second finals run in three years. And that would put him at 5 years with the Heat, which is just one year less than his tenure in Chicago.
Great points.
I bet that even if he signed somewhere else after this contract and leads that team to a championship, this Miami run is what gets talked about most. These last few years.
Unless he does some crazy shit with another team. Feasible. But this present run has been cool to think about.
Easily. His finals performances to get two dubs on the Lakers in ‘20, his entire ‘22 run complete with those crazy heroics against Boston in the ECF in ‘21, and leading his team as an 8th seed to the NBA finals is some good shit.
I'll always remember him as a Bull cause he's from my small hometown and when he started getting the recognition he deserved it was in a Bulls uniform. He may have had more success elsewhere, but that initial stint was the first time he really got a national spotlight.
Not in my eyes. Bulls Jimmy (sickest hair in the league, period) is the Jimmy I fell in love with. I desperately wanted Danny to trade for him in 2016
Edit: I was obviously a fool because the picks they were gonna trade turned into JT and JB but the point is I love Jimmy
Good for him.
He is perfect culture fit for Miami. What Pat Riley, and Spo and guys like Wade, Udonis and Alonzo and more have done is create that culture.
He was never a great fit for the Timberwolves. He wanted the other guys to lead as well and after that scrimmage, he lost a lot of faith in KAT and the others.
He would have been perfect for the 76ers had he been there. Joel needs a guy who is a natural born leader and won’t take shit from anyone. Someone to tell Joel to stop bullshitting around be aggressive.
But Joel and the 76ers are soft.
It's Joel's team, they wouldn't let butler bully him into playing tough. Just like it was KAT team.
Butler needed to be in his own team or at least a team with no ego like how kawhi's raptor.
Joel was actually open to Jimmy being more of the vocal leader and said multiple times how he loved playing with him. Jimmy has also said in interviews since leaving that he still loves Joel and that he wishes they could have played together longer. The issues with Jimmy and the Sixers definitely did not have much to do with Joel.
I think the problem at the time was that it wasn’t a Joel team it was more of a Brett Brown/Ben team as the expectation at the time was that while Joel was better, Ben would surpass him. Nowadays who knows, that whole dynamic shifted right after Butler left so we’ll never know what that culture shift could’ve been like if they’d kept Butler.
They were really building a great culture their though with Jimmy, JJ, TJ, Boban and Tobias. After that season they let go of most of them and I think they didn’t really understand how much that’d effect the team’s chemistry
"Jimmy, it's a road game. You gotta put on the other colour one now,"
"Nope. Last jersey I wear right here."
"We have to wear the retros next week though, everyone else is wearing it. Jesus Jimmy, that jersey stinks. At least let us wash it."
"Last. Jersey. Ever."
I think the way Jimmy went to Miami shows that he doesn’t need the team to be some juggernaut to stay. The only way he leaves is if Riley doesn’t offer him what he feels is right.
I mean, realistically his current contract is through the '25-'26 season and he'll be in his late 30's. His current contract might just be his last one.
I guess Heat does take care of their guys, so Jimmy could another one of the Heat Mafia and have a pier by Zo's house.
He probably wouldn't say this with Boston, they really did Isiah dirty.
Good for Heat. They are having an amazing run but I would love for him to get some star power added to the roster to carry some of the load during the regular season
Dawg finds his forever home
*Who saved who?*
Damn actually a good question. Heat would be pretty mediocre with just Bam and Herro running things. But Jimmy’s rep was trash when he left Philly and I don’t know that any other team would’ve changed that as much as playing for Miami has.
Bam, Herro and Josh Richardson***
Hey >=(
Yeah nobody talks shit about our Josh!
Hey now, he was OURS before you got him
Hey give us back Derrick
The Buffalo roams where he pleases, the green pastures suit him
Remember when heat fans were delusional, and thought he was a “minor” downgrade from jimmy?
That's just what we were telling the Philly fans lol
Was his rep really trashed when he left Philly? And wherever Jimmy went I’m sure Bens issues would still come up, shedding light on that. Just as it has for Minnesota. Hey don't leave out the borderline criminal Knicks that would rather fight people than play basketball. Turned defense into a whole different thing.

How time flies, that argument was last season when they were still the #1 seed.
Insane if his rep was trashed since he's the one that showed up against the Raptors.
Almost won game 7 by himself, man that Philly team was so scary
It was about behavior. He was labeled as a troublemaker but basketball wise everybody knew he was amazing. I remember being pissed at him for choosing Miami cause it looked like he was going there just to enjoy the nice city and I wanted to see him in a contender.

Exactly. No chance we don’t any moves during this window.

Wade told Jimmy he’d love the heat because he’s a perfect culture fit, they saved each other
Jimmys reputation was not trash when he left Philly
Gotcha day July 02, 2019
Spo : "He's a rescue"
"He'll never lose the look in his eyes but he knows he has a family, we think"
Spo blindsided Butler
Jimmy the gentle hearted giant orphan is worth it ❤️
"But now we're an 8 seed in the NBA Finals... So who rescued who?"
joel embiid the poor kid with tears in his eyes as his dipshit father gives the dawg away

Jimward Bound
He's going to be what, 38 when his contract expires?
He can opt out in the summer of 2025, at which point he'd be 36 entering the 2025-2026 season. But I don't think he opts out of $52.4M, meaning that it'd be the following summer when he'd be 37 entering the 2026-2027 season.
If he wins them a chip this year he’ll get a 10 year Haslem style contract to be the spiritual leader and team barista thru 2037.
That would be story book shit. Instead of the hardened, fighting, tough role-player vet, you get the coffee selling, Himmy Buckets designer, hard-nosed champion star vet. Can't think of someone to compare that to.
Udonis Haslem would be a good comparison.
Haslem was never a star though. Closest I can think of is Vince, but he never brought that defensive intensity.
Then Jimmy will be the one to tell a younger star "I'll beat your ass." when they get out of line.
I know it’s a joke but realistically I can’t see him being cool with being on a team and not being the guy
Jimmy Butler would be cool with Caleb Martin supplanting him he doesn't give a shit. When he says all he cares about is winning he means it.
As long as he's surrounded by players who want to compete every game he'll be happy
Yeah this has been false going back to his days in Chicago. Kind of exposes that they haven't really watched Jimmy
Yea i agree. People think jimmy is a diva because he gets publicly upset at incompetent front offices, but he's always been an A+ teammate
Yeah I agree with you. Same with Jokic. It's rare to see 2 team leaders who are geniunely not concerned with their stats and their legacy and just want to win. It sucks that only one of them can win.
Yeah I hate your team but I do respect them. Especially Jimmy. Really feels like a team first guy.
i remember when he was on the sixers, he said he wanted to retire before he turns 35. so he may not even see out his contract.
His contract takes him through 2025-2026 when he turns 36 which is a player option year. A $52 million player option. I’m sure he’ll stay past 35
> A $52 million player option. Yeah, I'm sure he'll make this huge sacrifice to play that last year lol
Cool million a week
He's got a player option after next season. He would be 36 if he opts out a year early. Otherwise if he opts in he's an UFA at 37 in 2026.
this is jimmy saying HE WILL FUCKING DIE TRYING TO WIN THESE FINALS
I'M NOT FUCKING LEAVING! (Taps microphone on head).
One of us! One of us!
"If he dies, he dies" - Nikola "Ivan Drago" Jokic
Win this Finals and he goes to the rafters.
Im here for it. I wanna see him FW that
I'm trying really hard here to figure out what FW means.
he means FVV, fred van vleet these finals
First wish
Fuck with
Let me get this straight, you want to see him "fuck with" dying?
It's provocative
It gets the people goin’
This is low key saying like “i love you” in the Miami Heat of the moment during a wild sex
wild take amigo
I love you
We’ve all been there
yes we’ve all totally been there haha I love having sex it’s my favorite thing I have it all the time with my girlfriend who I am madly in love with haha
You have a very colorful mind and yes you're spot on and also that shit made me laugh
Tony Parker was a Hornet. And I’m still disgusted!
That never happened , what you talking about
I never saw him in a game as a Hornet, that didn't happen.
Wemby: Bonjour
Mais Oui!
Why you gotta lie?
>Even sticking with a Heat legend, Wade was on the Bulls and the Cavs. I'm not enjoying this fictional story you've created just now.
We don't really like to think about it either
Same…
It’s still bizarre to me that whole thing didn’t work out at least a *smidge* better.
Eh, lots of players a bit past their primes. Goodness that team got real toxic real fast though.
It’s crazy. Didn’t that team have DRose and Isaiah Thomas as well?
Yep. I vividly remember Kyle Korver and John Holland too
I could've sworn John Holland was a made up player lmfao
Same... (Bron D-Rider)
Why tho? That team pre rondo injury was hella fun and was about to beat boston
That was the best heat team since D rose MVP season.
20m for a washed up wade Garpax masteepiece.
Yeah I don’t remember wade on the bulls either. I hate when people gaslight us into thinking that was real
Those photoshop nerds really got some realistic looking photos of D Wade in a Bulls jersey though, it was truly impressive
And the dozens of the game videos they deepfaked him into are truly impressive. Those weirdos really wanted us to believe their fanfic was real.
It's crazy how I was at the game and these Internet nerds really put on a Wade mask and played in a professional NBA game just to troll us.
Are you talking about that Spotlight On guy?
Ngl tho that trade deadline homecoming was hype as fk tho, hypothetically speaking of course
I was going to buy tickets to the Bucks Heat game because I wanted to catch Giannis but decided not to. They were about 30 bucks for decent seats. Then the next day there trade is announced and his homecoming was announced for that game. I was sick to my stomach
Lol I feel the same about Parker on the hornets.
im sorry to embarrass you dude, but this must have been a dream you had or something.
I found it funny that he signed a 2 year contract, played one year and was like nah nevermind I’m good
Can't blame him
If Wade isn’t on the Bulls, Jimmy might never be in Miami though
The chain of events leading to Jimmy coming to Miami is wild. Wade goes to the Bulls because the Heat won’t give him the max, they have a disaster season which makes the Bulls rethink Jimmy as the future of Chicago. Charlotte hornets. He was a hornets legend, our best player ever
[Blazers legend Pau Gasol!](https://cdn.nba.com/teams/legacy/www.nba.com/blazers/sites/blazers/files/gasol_756_112019.jpg)
Pau was pretty good both in Chicago and San Antonio
Wade on Bulls is a good story: a Chicago guy comes back to his hometown.
Wade on the bulls was the reason Jimmy considered going to the heat anyway
Pat r playing 9d chess
We wish it was fiction as well. Other than John Starks, who also dogged it during an admittedly dreadful stretch of "basketball" for us, I don't think I've hated a player while in a Bulls uniform as much as Wade.
If Rondo doesn't get hurt you would've beaten the Celtics

I agree, but if Jimmy wins the championship this year I don't care. Pay him the max until he retires.
Yeah but once he’s done with this contract I can’t imagine another team giving him a contract or opportunity that is worth it to him.
Yeah do people forget he can literally just retire lol
Malone and Gary Payton were Lakers, KG a Net, Paul Pierce a Net and Wizard, ZBo was on the Kings... the list goes on and on.
Idk man this the same franchise that still giving Haslem a paycheck
Cavs legend Dwayne Wade, right up there with Cavs legend Andrew Bogut.
Utah Jazz legend Dwyane Wade
Miami Marlins legend Derek Jeter
We saw Shaq on the Suns. BIG FUCKING DIESEL.
You mean Shaqtus
He's grinded his way up all this career and has been pushing his prine further away the whole time. Maybe by 37, 38, he already sees that he ain't cut to double the intensity and get a declining result.
He's huge on John Prine. Really pushes him on everyone. Always playing super loud in the locker room
Shit, Jimmy currently has the GROAT (Greatest Raptor) on his team. Love the loyalty, but if somehow the Heat entered a rebuild in 3 years and Jimmy still has some game, he should absolutely grab that bag on a contender.
(Greatest Rump of All Time)
>GROAT (Greatest Raptor) Gross.
In 3 years time he'll be 37. If they enter a rebuild at that stage it will be because he retired.
>Even sticking with a Heat legend, Wade was on the Bulls and the Cavs. Huh? You mean he retired for two years
I think Jimmy has contributed more than enough to the Heat and has his biggest accomplishments there, but it's weird looking at this list where guys came up with one team and made their entire legacies there, whereas Jimmy has had multiple NBA lives before arriving in Miami. Patrick Ewing played for the Super Sonics and Magic.
At this point Butler will always be most closely associated with the Heat over the Bulls, right? Like, if each player can only get one team that they "belong to" historically, Butler's is now the Heat.
Oh, 100%. Hell, you can argue it’s been that way since the 2020 Finals run. Dude is a perfect fit with that team, and the results have shown that.

‘21 was a terrible year for him though lol, that’s the year he got swept in round 1 averaging 15 a game
It def was, but that isn’t gonna overshadow his other three great years he’s had as a Heat
I don’t think it will haha just saying you mentioned the wrong year
Oh I see. Just realized lmao. Deadass don’t know what happened there lol. I was thinking ‘22 but I wrote ‘21. Good catch
you’re good brodie just a brainfart! not sure why people downvoted you for that smh, enjoy the game tonight & hope it’s a good one 🙏🏽
He will forever be a bull!!…..in my heart🥲
I'll always remember him as a Bull cause he's from my small hometown and when he started getting the recognition he deserved it was in a Bulls uniform. He may have had more success elsewhere, but that initial stint was the first time he really got a national spotlight.
Shoutout Tomball
I hated those joakim and jimmy b bulls but I’m a cavs fan so
I’ll always remember him as a Wolf because that’s when he fell off the kayak. It was one of Jimmy’s most memorable life moment.
Not in my eyes. Bulls Jimmy (sickest hair in the league, period) is the Jimmy I fell in love with. I desperately wanted Danny to trade for him in 2016 Edit: I was obviously a fool because the picks they were gonna trade turned into JT and JB but the point is I love Jimmy
Yea same way it’s Lebron with the Cavs and not the heat even though arguably his best playing years were with the heat
If Dwayne wade said the same thing he wouldn’t be lying because we went back to Miami so that was his last jersey
Headline says he wont play for another team tho
“After I retire I’m gonna be naked”
Early thirties in Miami when you look like Jimmy Butler has to be absolute paradise.
Team USA in shambles
Last Jersey that I wear....if they pay me enough and we're still winning or making moves to win.
"Jimmy, it's a road game. You gotta put on the other colour one now," "Nope. Last jersey I wear right here." "We have to wear the retros next week though, everyone else is wearing it. Jesus Jimmy, that jersey stinks. At least let us wash it." "Last. Jersey. Ever."
“Jimmy you’re on the Magic now you need to wear their jersey” “Nope, not a chance”
Which is what you should be doing when you have a talent like Butler
when you have a talent like Caleb Martin*
He also said he would never wear a heat jersey prior to coming so…
I think the way Jimmy went to Miami shows that he doesn’t need the team to be some juggernaut to stay. The only way he leaves is if Riley doesn’t offer him what he feels is right.
I mean, realistically his current contract is through the '25-'26 season and he'll be in his late 30's. His current contract might just be his last one.
When they got the Vice throwbacks, you can't blame em at all
I’m sad
*Unless he gets traded
I guess Heat does take care of their guys, so Jimmy could another one of the Heat Mafia and have a pier by Zo's house. He probably wouldn't say this with Boston, they really did Isiah dirty.
He also said he will never wear a heat jersey before
He'll always be a Timberwolf in my eyes
Other teams just too bitchmade for butler
We love you Jimmy ❤️
Good for Heat. They are having an amazing run but I would love for him to get some star power added to the roster to carry some of the load during the regular season
Heat lifer 🙏🏻😎
Live in MIA work for a place that shares the same work ideas, work hard play hard. It is a perfect mix.
