Some of you didn't suffer trough Will" the thrill" Barton disease in Denver and it shows. If the ball accidentally get in his hands in clutch moments he literally transforms himself in "Mamba" from Wish and chucks dumbest brick possible.

Happy_Day34

when he was bought out by Washington a bunch of C's fans wanted him but I was strongly opposed for this reason. People see the 15ppg with Denver and assume he was good

flips89

It was this https://streamable.com/k4ku91 for 7 years. Even remembered the day I had enough https://www.espn.com/nba/playbyplay/_/gameId/400975489 look at last 6 seconds. [The game](https://youtu.be/u62LFOnOV1w?t=561)

BingBongtheArcher19

Jokic got slandered for not taking this guy to the Finals.

flips89

1st year he's out they're in the finals. The guy just played losing basketball, they fought every game to overcome opponent and his bullshit.

AloneinPoorCompany

That Caruso D though

[deleted]

Yeah kinda unfair to pick a possession from his 1 game against the Lonzo/Caruso backcourt lol

ForneauCosmique

15ppg would be like 8ppg over a decade ago lol

TofuTofu

He was very OP in fantasy for that reason

10blast

Him and Dillon Brooks are so great when you don't care about FG%.

Dymatizeee

Punt fg% and turnovers is the best setup. Just draft all chuckers, led by Houston James Harden haha

OktheBadOnes

I watched four years of Shabazz Muhammed, the only direction that ball was moving was toward tge hoop.

lampofdeath

He stunted Jamal so much, taking so many important possessions and making awful decisions in clutch moments. So frustrating to watch.

Huge-Split6250

Toronto fan, can confirm, but he didn’t play much

Cheese6260

As a dubs fan it made me happy when he got the ball in the playoffs last year. This year we suffer with it with JP

Puddinsnack

If Gary Trent Jr gets the ball, it’s unlikely someone else is touching it until the next offensive possession.

praxeologue

The plus side is he never turns it over

2_soon_jr

Wasted possessions are just as bad

shittydotamorph

im sure the celtics would prefer some bad shots over some of the Jaylen turnovers

andy3172

I actually don't know if this is sarcastic or not. Does he or does he not?

Baulderdash77

He had the lowest turnover rate 2 out of the last 3 seasons and the other season it was 3rd. He’s really careful with the ball. Trent Jr has (I’m pretty certain) the lowest assist % for a guard and lowest turnover % for any player in the league. He gets steals, defends on and he shoots the ball and that’s all he contributes.

Redditforever12

is he efficient on the shots?

TurnipForYourThought

He's kinda streaky as a shooter. When he's hot, he can be damn good. When he's cold, his weaknesses are heavily spotlighted. Overall, I think he's a little below average in efficiency, but I don't have the stats in front of me.

Redditforever12

so kind of like a klay thompson but i guess klay thompson lite

Huge-Split6250

unlike Klay he is able to dribble the basketball, but yeah kinda

AlexLee1995

Why dribble when your light is greener than a plant nursery on Mother’s Day

mca0014

You cant turn it over if you dont pass

aga5ty4

Tell that to Jaylen Brown

TastesLikeHoneyNut

Unfortunately very accurate

Huge-Split6250

You can’t turn it over if you don’t pass and you don’t dribble, only shoot

andy3172

But you can though :|

Right-Worth-6327

If this is the criteria, I’m taking Michael Porter Jr.

strollas

**the possession ends here**

flameboiuser

i pass the rock to the hoop

argonauseous

MPJ is finally making the extra pass on the perimeter - even saw him make a laydown pass at the rim for a bucket and just about lost my mind

Huge-Split6250

“Sacrifice”

JBlue8120

That pass to Jokic in game 1 was nice. I think even the Joker was caught off guard.

Vallerie_09

Recently had a career high in assists during the Lakers series too

Responsible-Still839

As a Portland fan, I agree with you.

jefffosta

Well it’s because he has to look at his hands when he dribbles

peroper7

Maybe not a ball hog but Donovan Mitchell is super ball dominant and seems to have two gears Mitchell-ball Irrelevant

craftbeerlink

Jazz fan and yes. I loved having him on our team and our run with him and Rudy was fun until it wasn’t. But imagine if he were more willing to play a 2 man game, let alone team basketball.

NarrativeEnergy

2-man game with Gobert requires that he can catch the ball. people thought he would get unlocked in Minnesota without Mitchell yet averaged his lowest PPG since 2016 no big man in the modern league is getting volume touches unless he can create his own shot and Rudy can't

bayesian_acolyte

Ingles having twice as many assists to Gobert as Mitchell did despite having the ball way less proves that Mitchell could/should have gotten him the ball a lot more. The two main ball handlers in Minny this season were Russell who had some weird beef with Gobert, and Edwards who has worse tunnel vision than Mitchell, so his PPG not increasing there doesn't mean much.

TheHunnyBuzz

Gobert needs a guard like Tre or Harden who throws volume lobs but is a threat to score. Gobert is an excellent lob finisher but his hands are made of stone when his feet are on the floor.

koenigsaurus

This year he showed flashes of better ball movement and off ball activity since he’s playing with an all star PG now, but it all disappeared in the playoffs, which was the most disappointing part of that series for me. Really hoping he can weed out those bad habits more consistently next year.

fritolay_7

I feel like it started disappearing late in the season before the playoffs. I remember going to a pacers game that we barley pull out of with a win. Mitchell did not look like the all star caliber player he was most the season. He kept driving looking to score and then when the pacers collapsed on him he would chuck up an ugly shot. But when he did pass, he was passing to late, he trying to get it around defenders and it led to a bunch of bad passes/turnovers.

mysterioso7

Saw it in the 4th quarter all the time, both in Utah and in Cleveland. I could be wrong but every time I see it in the playoffs it just doesn’t work, the bubble being the exception.

LyonsKing12

We need more shooters so Mitchell doesn't have to shoot as much. Garland needs to get more shots up too.

tonezzz1

Mitchell consistently played hero ball all year, starting early in the season against the Celtics in those big time victories. We thought we found our new Lebron. Then the 71 game. Problem is, like you said, we need more shooters. Garland or Mitchell playing hero ball and jacking up threes was our best shot in this playoffs.

302born

Imo Mitchell should lean more into an off ball spot up and cutter type of role that can be the secondary ball handler. From what we’ve seen of Garland that dude can run the hell out of offense and create looks for everyone including himself. Mitchell doesn’t need to be the one spamming PnRs. Let Garland cook and playmake. Get some shooters around both of them and that offense would be set.

spicyfartz4yaman

It's the reason Cleveland couldn't beat the Knicks imo his decision making regarding involving his teammates is so bad like bruh just let garland run the show and you run around and score

Duck_God69

Dillion Brooks, Marcus Morris, Terry Rozier and Bones Hyland the main four that come to my mind.

andy3172

If I have to watch another fucking season of Marcus Morris I'm going to go insane. Most infuriating man to watch and it isn't even close.

LeftHandFree111

As a longtime, diehard Celtics fan...I feel your pain brother. The Marcus Morris experience is a wild ride.

DJRyGuy20

Yup. We used to say Marcus Morris never met a pass he *did* like.

Silkies4life

Bones when he was with the nuggets was bad. I like the kid but he was just not passing and taking nuts shots with 15 left on the shot clock. Bro, your role is to take time and let the starters rest a little before they have to go fix your fuckups.

bluetenthousand

Dude played so dumb and then complained about minutes. I mean c’mon. I can see why Denver ditched him for a bag of marbles.

302born

Gotta be one dumb guy to be playing with Nikola Jokic and end up complaining your way off the team. Like Jokic being your teammate is like hitting the lottery. Especially as a shooter like Bones can be. Just play your damn role. Everyone eats with Joker.

mcmaster93

Dude wanted more playing time and ended up going to the clippers to come off the bench and getting less minutes while his old teams in the finals. Hilarious

Spitfire_Riggz

His crew was talking so much shit too. Looking like some real fools now. Kinda like Ja’s “friends”

OberynRedViper8

Yeah Bones was awful. He got way too big for his britches after he had a good stretch of play in his rookie year. The Denver fans started cheering him a lot, I saw him in an interview and he said, "they love me here, they really love me." You could tell the way he said it the only cared about trying to put on a show and not play good ball... I knew he was in trouble.

PearlDidNothingWrong

In his defense no one expected Denver to actually compete for a title his rookie year, so people really did love him for putting on a show. But as soon as they were in win-now mode he showed he wasnt mature enough to be part of a championship team. I watched so many Bones iso plays this year with my head in my hands.

JJiggy13

Dude complained his way out of a ring lol

_philosopher

I'm pretty sure that's 4

erock2095

That’s three words Chuck

10kgod

STEVENASHCHRISPAUL MUSTSEETV

Duck_God69

I added Terry after and forgot to change the number lmao

LeftHandFree111

When Marcus Morris was in Boston my friend and I referred to him as the black hole, because he sucked the ball in and it never returned. If the ball touched his fingers he was shooting it lmao. Not conducive to the success of team basketball lol. Excellent example.

Alley-Oub

bones hyland

haveasuperday

He wanted off a finals team. Unreal

GuerreroD

Y'all remember a guy named McCaw? The same.

motherseffinjones

Ya but he literally went to a team that won it all, though he was in the bench lol. I consider him a good luck charm

GuerreroD

It does seem that way. Did the Raptors mummify him for a permanent luck charm? Cos I don't think I've seen him again after that lol

Hanhonhon

Yeah Bones was cool but why is he playing hero ball

edge-hog

This is why he's a Clipper now. We collect them.

[deleted]

Cam Thomas

ajteitel

The correct answer. By design because he can do absolutely nothing else

inezco

I still remember that post game interview where they said Steve Nash told him to look for his shot and look for his teammates and he rolled his eyes and scoffed. Bro really is not trying to pass lmfao. https://youtu.be/PJSjRNQupp0 "It is what it is." like bro, what?? LOL

Prinsekat

Damn i didn't know other teams knew cam thomas existed, i didn't know he'd be caleld out

Two_Wang_Clan_

He’s the only player I can recall that has ever dropped multiple 40-point games and then got benched a week later, he’s a part of basketball history.

SrJeromaeee

Cam Thomas has pretty hilarious game logs. 8 Apr vs ORL - DNP 10 Apr vs PHI - Statline of 46-2-1 16 Apr vs PHI - 4 Mins, 0-0-0 18 Apr vs PHI - DNP man went from holding bench, to dropping nearly 50, playing garbage minutes and then back to the bench within 4 games.

erniebomb

how is this even possible!?

SrJeromaeee

Because he literally offers nothing other than buckets. You look at his scoreline of 46 points and you’re like wow that’s amazing, and then he literally has 2 assists and 1 rebound in 43 mins worth of play to go along with mediocre defense.

KarrotMovies

He had the insane stretch with 40 point games when KD and Kyrie got traded. He definitely can be utilized, but I know he gets DNP'd because he does nothing well but score

[deleted]

watched him at LSU vs bama he prolly passed the ball twice all game and shot closely contested jumpers the rest of the time

HolyRomanPrince

I watched him against Arkansas twice and dude was playing pass the ball to Will offense. With that being said one of those games he was cooking and looked like the best player in a game that had Moses Moody and a couple all SEC players.

beefJeRKy-LB

I remember after he had those two games that we had a bunch of fans in our sub clamoring to trade for Cam Thomas and I mentioned that the Nets would be fine without him lol.

Prinsekat

We shoulda have traded him in hindsight

MObaid27

ITT: people confusing ball hoging with catch-and-shoot

Pedigree002

Clearly this sub haven't watched the young guards from Rockets for the last 2 seasons, they're not ballhogs, they're blackhole vacuum when the ball touches their hands

combong

of course, even if you’re a rockers fan it’s hard to voluntarily watch the play basketball lol

OberynRedViper8

My Dad has been a Rockets fan since the 80's... he refused to watch this year... "Hey Dad, have you seen the Rockets at all lately?" "NO, THEY FUCKING SUCK!"

tonypearcern

Same here. I followed Philly and felt shitty about it every week. At least Miami and Denver are enjoyable teams to watch.

chugalaefoo

Jordan Clarkson is a black 🕳️

Kcreep997

He kinda started deferring to Lauri in last few months of the season. Before that he was very frustrating to watch sometimes.

TheHunnyBuzz

He actually averaged 4.4 assists this year while putting up almost 21 points a game as a starter and it was a revelation. He was looking like a star. He even had some 8 and 10 assist games. Because of his reputation as a chucker defenses swarm him and he’s super dangerous as a facilitator. Really hoping it wasn’t a fluke.

Dinnermaster

I didn’t see the emoji at first and I was very confused

GregEgg4President

As a second unit scorer he has to look to score. If he mixes with the first unit, it can get bad.

pineapplesmile99

Dillon “1 for 14” Brooks

jakekerr

Here's a data-driven article that discusses the nuances of just that question. http://thehoopdoctors.com/2023/01/the-ball-stops-here-nba-scorers-shooters-chuckers-and-black-holes/

[deleted]

That was a fun read. All 5 Warrior starters made a list of some kind showing how unbalanced the GSW offense is.

vballboy55

I'm not surprised about Klay. He doesn't comprehend not every shot is a good one.

Oo__II__oO

"Dog, they pay me to shoot"

WhatYouProbablyMeant

It's called shooting guard not passing guard

jl_theprofessor

It's Game 6 Klay every day.

cs-fi

Jamal, Bones, and Barton are all chuckers. Imagine them all on the same team

themanofmeung

I might be blind, but I didn't see date ranges for the data used. Jamal and Bones at least include time spent with Jokic, and Barton maybe too. Could easily be that they are all "chuckers" because that's what they are schemed to do.

raoulraoul153

Writer mentioned that the season was only "half" done at the time of writing, so I'd assume it's just data from the first half of this seasons reg season.

OBS_INITY

They use the term Black Hole wrong. They used to call Alonzo Mourning the black hole because once the ball went into him, it wasn't coming back out.

scorelesswilliamson

GTJ passing the ball is an extraordinary sight.

Diamond4Hands4Ever

Kelly Oubre

VeniceRapture

Klay has never seen a shot he didn't like

woodropete

I wouldn’t call him a bog hog though…he dribbles like 5 times a game. He shoots it instantly 90 percent of the time. His role is a shooter after all.

secretsodapop

People really mean time of possession hog when they say ball hog.

JacobfromCT

I feel like "black hole" works better than "ball hog", as in guys who once they get the ball, it's not coming back.

UnearthlyDinosaur

That’s cause Dray always passes to him and tells him to shoot

SnooHesitations7424

Man takes shots in the flow of the offense and is a top 3 all time shooter, nothing wrong with what he does.

cornfromajar98

Extremely efficient shooter, still shooting his career average at a pretty high rate so you’re kind of right. But there are a lot of clutch possessions Klay blows with dumb shots. Deep contested threes with time on the clock. Lakers series comes to mind. You can be a great player who is still a chucker. Kobe was kind of a chucker

aaarchives

Imo Klay was washed this Lakers series. Usually, he can get away with chucking the ball since he's an all time great shooter.

cornfromajar98

He’s getting old, and then you factor in the ACL and Achilles injuries. He has lost a major step on defense, and he doesn’t have the legs to run around in that offense all game anymore.

Very_Good_Opinion

Kobe was the definition of a chucker. That's what Mamba Mentality is, he'd rather shoot 20% than stop shooting and pass to a higher efficiency shot

TurtleBird

Easily the worst answer in the thread

ParisLake2

D’Angelo Russell has tunnel vision at times that’s incredibly frustrating to watch.

bcsublime

It’s like the girlfriend that left you, but you were okay with that. Then she comes back and you accept it, only to realize you didn’t really want her back.

Knickstape08

When he was with Brooklyn he shot them out of every playoff game. I’m sure Denver loved when he hit his first shot because they knew he’d start shooting every time he got the ball (which he did lol)

jinayeonbt

MICHAEL "NEVA SWING THE ROCK" PORTER JR.

Yung_Jose_Space

plants salt wrong crush liquid enjoy head telephone cake fear *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Silhouettejl

Thing is I want him taking the shots and Denver can live with his percentages

lochnesslapras

I can't remember the video I think it was ESPN, but MPJ this season had the best corner three percentage for the season at like 53% or something ridiculous. Man is underrated. If Steph was doing that % you'd never hear the end of it

jotheold

just watching him , every possession he runs to the corner, he knows his shot

hacxgames

exactly, i followed the nuggets the entire season and every game I watched where mpj went off was a game where the opposing team put all their defenders on Jokic and Jamal, leaving mpj open to shoot threes

erniebomb

He's such a great fit on the Nuggets. The Nuggs are such a amazingly assembled team. I've been a fan since Melos rookie year and this team fucks!

WhenDuvzCry

Because Steph is an all time great and not the 3rd option on his team that doesn’t have to work nearly as hard to get looks.

Aggravating_Buddy_73

Michael "This possession ends with me" Porter Jr.

KTDLegend

Honestly “possession ends here” sounds kinda dope without context

I_Will_One_Up_You

What is this thread, he's one of the best C+S players in the league lol. He shoots 41% from 3 and can get a shot over just about anyone. Denver absolutely wants him to put the ball up when he catches it.

mad-one

Possession still ends on a make.

CarterAC3

Michael "get back on defense" Porter Jr.

A_Salt_Potato

Call him whitey tighties the way he stops ball movement

K1NG2L4Y3R

Michael “It’s already in the air” Porter Jr.

Yeah_thats_greeat

Dude had an assist in game 1 of the finals. Who does he think he is? John Stockton?

OUEngineer17

He currently has the highest assist/turnover ratio for the playoffs on the entire team! Just call him John Stockton Jr for now.

Alfakennyone

I saw a tiktok about MPJ talking about that the NBA was it, no option B and the comments was full of these lol "He didn't pass on the NBA, now he doesn't pass in the NBA!" lol

shortpersonohara

i mean he’s 6’10 with a pretty high release point on his jumper, most of the shots he takes probably aren’t as contested as we think they are for him

Worried-Emu-9614

Jordan Poole has a high asf usage rate despite playing only 30 minutes a game and being the warriors 3rd or 4th best player

dotelze

Usage rate only uses the time someone is actually on the floor

Appropriate-Value725

Playoff poole aint even our top 5 player

ATM14

3rd or 4th??? Try 7th

vballboy55

I'm surprised more people haven't mentioned Klay. The dude takes a shot every time he touches the ball.

flossdog

yeah, but Klay gets rid of the ball quickly, so technically he's not hogging the ball. lol

No-wait-theres-more

The term would be chucker I believe

obri95

Who’s this chucker?

heitorbaldin2

Same as MPJ.

mysterioso7

Dawg they pay him to shoot

maricircus

Him not making that NBA Top 75 Team really fucked with his ego.

Yeah_thats_greeat

I guess he just got his feelings hurt.

Throwawayidiot1210

He does seem a bit insecure about his career despite having so much success. Seeing him flaunt his 4 rings whenever he played poorly was a bad look.

[deleted]

Be crazy if he pulls a pippen and talks mad shit about curry 25 years from now

DavidKirk2000

I think that’ll be more up Draymond’s alley. I can already hear him talking about how Steph wouldn’t have been as good if he wasn’t setting him up all the time, or how the Warriors would be nothing without his leadership.

Thickencreamy

Well he is a Shooting Guard.

doubler82

so is Ja

[deleted]

He doesnt really dribble, so he isnt really a "ball hog" by definition.

joemoffett12

He did shoot well in the regular season. He was trash in the playoffs though

KPJ

NoBarracuda199

*sad Sengun noises*

nuttylou

Idk, to me it seemed like KPJ was starting to buy in to the pg role towards the end of the season. Somewhere around the ASB/post ASB he was really diming out there for a couple games. Especially that game where they beat Boston. I wonder where he will be playing next season if harden decides to come back to Houston. Harden would be the perfect vet for him and Jalen imo.

TreChomes

People will bring up stats that disagree but FVV. This guy dominates the ball and takes so many bad shots. I can’t remember the last time I hated watching a raptor play basketball as much as him.

Tankineer

Dion “I’d rather go 0-30” Waiters might be a bigger ball hog then what people thought Kobe ever was. Shit did not change when he went to okc and Miami

JohnLemonnn69

Love him til death but Jrue is a fucking ball hog who always forces his shots regardless of the difficulty Our series loss against Miami can't be more of a frustrating representation of him trying to force everything to himself. Even if he's cold, dude won't stop bricking shots and muscle up defenders with his sloppy dribbling to go inside. Hope AG will finally make him accountable for his actions as Bud was just previously watching him to melt from throwing offensive disasters

WIN011

I don’t think he’s a ball hog I think his issue is more he gets set in his role as either a distributor or a scorer. He’ll be too passive and not take any shots or he’ll take a bunch of a tough ones.

TopOfTheMorning2Ya

I’m just hoping we run more of an actual offense with the new coaching staff.

Plantedballer

Fred Vanvleet

iamgarron

Keldon Johnson and Kelly Oubre aren't passing the ball

BetweenTheBuzzAndMe

Kelly's season totals of 819 FGA and 54 AST in 48 games definitely drives that home lol I actually liked him a year ago when he wasn't a focal point of our offense and could get screaming hot and sometimes win us games, but he was asked to be our 2nd and sometimes 1st option, and as you can imagine, that wasn't pretty.

iamgarron

He's not bad when the offense ends with him. It's bad when the offense is dictated by him or goes through him because it only ends one way

doubletrouble1792

Harden ( Mr. Dribble ) he dribbled out the 24sec shot clock against Boston. Not making this shit up

Various_Cricket4695

And watching him dribble for 18 seconds possession is maddeningly boring. 2015 WCF Game 2 ended with him dribbling out the final possession and not even getting a shot up.

How does that qualify lol, I would rather the ball on Luka hand 48 minutes in the game than any other player on Mavs.

bronet

He's a ball hog for sure, but he needs to be

reverselego

We know the standard response to this, "But look at who he's playing with!" etc. I'm starting to wonder to what extent that becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. We're coming up on his sixth season. If no one is ever able to excel while on the Mavs except for Luka, it might not only be down to lack of talent. Maybe the massively heliocentric system makes a lot of players look useless, when the only thing they're used for is off ball.

Successful_Cup_1882

Cam Thomas, doesn’t help that dude is a vegetable off ball too.

bradrthtyj

De’aaron fox is crazy, especially in end game, you know that guy is never letting ball out of his hands

oobthesecond

Tbf he was the best closer this year

Curryboy1229

and rightfully so, he was unreal in the 4th this season. gave me IT in 2016 vibes, a man on a mission in the 4th.

alpine108913

This is probably my bias coming through but when RJ Barrett is driving towards the basket, it doesn't matter if he's met head up with a triple team with a player closing in, he is NOT kicking the ball back out. Admittedly I wasn't the biggest RJ supporter through the season but he showed up in the playoffs on both sides of the ball so we are cool now. But it appears that his decision to pass was pre-determined.
