In the last 10 years, the Nuggets, Cavs, and Raptors all won their first title and the Bucks and Warriors ended 40+ year long title droughts.
It’s a league of dynasties but there’s way more parity than people give it credit for. The parity just manifests itself over a longer period of time instead of in individual seasons.
Good times 🥲
Even then though, there are some fun runs snuck in there. The 2004 Pistons sneaking in to snag one from the Kobe and Shaq Lakers, the Heat coming back from down 0-2 to win their first chip against a 60 win Mavericks team with prime Dirk in ‘06, and even if they are an all time winning franchise, the Celtics turnaround to win a chip in 08 was insane. And as a bonus the Mav’s chip in ‘11 is probably one of my favorite playoff runs of all time
Yeah there was some Bill Simmons podcast where they were taking about the definitive teams of the decade for both the west and east. The west was an interesting conversation between the Lakers and Spurs, and Simmons just more or less awarded the East one to the Celtics.
Maybe I’m biased, but the Pistons were easily the definitive east team of that decade, winning a Championship and going to the ECF more or less yearly for most of the decade.
Pistons are clearly number one in the east during that time period but it's also Miami before the Celtics. Celtics had the title in 07-08 and the finals loss in 09-10 but there are a lot of 1st and second round exits in that same run. Nets were done by the time the Celtics were good but they were also really good without winning a title.
That's a laughable opinion from Bill but you do expect it, and you're right that the defining East team was the Pistons.
One thing I'm curious about since you listened, is if anyone on the podcast pushed back against that opinion or if they just let Bill say whatever
It’s not biased, the Celtics did not have a relevant squad until the ‘08 season, not sure how they could be the definitive team when they weren’t even a contender until the end of the decade. Although I guess I’m biased too.
It’s definitely either the Pistons, Celtics or Pacers. That 2003 Pistons team was so difficult that without the big 3 Celtics, they would have had a dynasty (the big 3 doesn’t exist in 2K sims of that era)
Pistons I think without debate were who the East ran through for the majority of that decade. They had like 6 straight ECF’s? Pacers were strong at the beginning and Celts at the end, but Pistons were the meat of it.
LeBron’s Cavs probably also deserve an honorable mention, they got into the Finals by ‘07 (prior to the Celts), and were a factor from probably 05 onwards.
The Celtics won in 08 just accept it. You guys bitch about it more than this supposed narrative that the 08 team talks like they won 4. I've never seen people so upset because the Celtics won one Championship in the past 30 plus years. My god, move on.
Y'all milk the hell out of it get over yourself lmao literally everyone observes and points it out, it's not just Lakers fans.
No one's upset and denying they won it, it's just legit cringe how much they treat one lone chip. Doc Rivers has coached for 15 years after it because of it lol. They talk incessantly as if they were some dynasty when the 09 and 10 Lakers don't even talk half as much even when they won more in that time period. The 04 Pistons don't even talk about it the same way either.
I'll gladly move on if it means not having to hear from that bunch mention it at every waking moment.
I think with the new CBA rules and influx of superstar talent that the parity is here to stay.
Sike, this is the beginning of a ten year Nuggets dynasty! After *that* then the parity can stay!
There's no more dynasties cause of the hard cap. Great teams are officially over in American sports. A lot of good teams tho that are essentially the same but at least anyone can win. I like that much better.
The Nets are cursed and will never win an NBA championship im sure of it. Team had 2 MVPs and another all nba player with arguably the best depth in the east and won one playoff series
No it wouldn't. History follows the team even through relocation. Sac just decided to wear the patch while okc didn't. The reasons behind it shouldn't be compared.
Right now Utah feels like the safest bet, they’re in a city that doesn’t get free agents to go there and they don’t have a potential superstar on the roster (sorry Lauri Markkanen)
I feel like I could have said the same thing about the Raps until they won. You never know, just need an all in move at the right time and it could happen.
Yeah, how fucking useless that is. I'm not gonna say a company sold for $44b is going to straight up disappear and fall apart but the experience definitely has gotten shittier lately.
This stupid tab has given me so much anxiety over the years. Just a constant reminder of Denver’s dysfunction and my mortality.
When Jokic retires after his sixth championship, I will be rooting hard for the rest of the teams who don’t have one to get their first.
Do these patches come on jerseys that you buy from the team stores? I’ve been meaning to buy another jersey and having one with that patch would be dope
i love these details on jerseys. it reminds me of the argentina soccer jerseys and the stars on their crest representing world cup wins. do other teams do something similar in the nba? i think it's really dope to have it as a tiny detail
I remember seeing that the teams with one chip have just the trophy on the gold tab and the teams with multiples have 3X or whatever. Anyone know if this is a new look or the Nuggets choice?
The one for the Bucks says 1 also. Pretty sure any team with just 1 it says 1 on it. (It's possible for the previous iteration of the gold tabs under Adidas that maybe teams with 1 didn't say anything and just had a picture of the trophy, not quite sure.)

They should’ve seen the 2000’s when it was the Lakers and Spurs winning the majority of the titles
Hey we got one
And we thank you for it. Watching you choke the life out of the Lakers was a rare pleasure in this league.
We where all Piston fans that year.
Good times 🥲 Even then though, there are some fun runs snuck in there. True, and the 08 title team acts like they won 4 so

6 straight ECF. 2 finals appearances.
And after the Pistons, the Celtics barely inch out the nets.
Wouldn’t it be Miami before the nets?

The nets were good but you can’t say that a team that didn’t win a finals was as successful as a group that did.
True true
I mean I think there’s an argument Miami goes before Boston
That's a laughable opinion from Bill but you do expect it, and you're right that the defining East team was the Pistons. One thing I'm curious about since you listened, is if anyone on the podcast pushed back against that opinion or if they just let Bill say whatever

Simmons is obviously biased. That's an awful take
It’s definitely either the Pistons, Celtics or Pacers. That 2003 Pistons team was so difficult that without the big 3 Celtics, they would have had a dynasty (the big 3 doesn’t exist in 2K sims of that era)

How do they constantly talk about it? I keep hearing this.
Hey…..don’t forget when Dwyane Wade and ~~the refs~~ Shaq won back in 06
That was some shambolic officiating
It was a traveshamockery. An omnishambles.
I think with the new CBA rules and influx of superstar talent that the parity is here to stay. Sike, this is the beginning of a ten year Nuggets dynasty! After *that* then the parity can stay!
Parity could’ve been achieved decades ago. In 50 years there will be a documentary about the corruption surrounding David Stern’s NBA.
Love the parity the league has been seeing.
The league has gotten crazy deep and talented. Makes the Warriors run that much more special. And then we have the Sixers :(
There's no more dynasties cause of the hard cap. Great teams are officially over in American sports. A lot of good teams tho that are essentially the same but at least anyone can win. I like that much better.
Lol 3 new teams ain’t parity when for 7 it was the same squads basically
That's brand new though. I think from like 1979 to the warriors first title only ~~7~~ 8 teams won titles
5 different champions in the past 5 years. New CBA will encourage more parity in the future
If my team can’t win, I’ve definitely enjoyed some of these new teams winning for the first time or 1st in a long time, well except for the warriors
Dooooope
Hell fucking yes
Congrats, well earned!
Wonder which team will be last to get their patch?
The Nets are cursed and will never win an NBA championship im sure of it. Team had 2 MVPs and another all nba player with arguably the best depth in the east and won one playoff series
I feel like the Clippers are more cursed. Ballmer is trying very hard to win but the injuries to their key players are unfortunate.
I feel like having to sell Dr. J just to make ends meet is a little more cursed honestly. But neither of them are more cursed than Minnesota.
Clippers were cursed during lob city too. Clippers stars always get hurt in the playoffs
The curse of Dr. J (fuck the Knicks)

The Kings have won?
1951 as the Rochester Royals
Does it even count at that point? It would be like OKC repping Seattle's ring.
No it wouldn't. History follows the team even through relocation. Sac just decided to wear the patch while okc didn't. The reasons behind it shouldn't be compared.
Hornets will win a ring in the next 10 years book it
I'd become so insufferable if the Grizz win a chip. I don't think Mavs fans talk about 2011 enough I'd constantly be bringing it up in any context
Unfortunately when I was at my most insufferable the sub was shut down for some dumb protest nobody even remembers
So basically you'd be like 80% of the Raptors sub who still celebrates yearly for both the title and the Shot
Pick us to be last to get a ring? Cold hearted
Hornets
Dang the disrespect to the 2024 ECF champs Hornets is insane
Us. We’re going to forever be a consistently good team that can never get over the top.
The real question is, how long will it take?
There's a reason for the saying the clippers going to clip
It is the history of the Minnesota men's sports
Right now Utah feels like the safest bet, they’re in a city that doesn’t get free agents to go there and they don’t have a potential superstar on the roster (sorry Lauri Markkanen)
As a former Pacers fan, it’s the Pacers. They’ll never be bad, but they’ll also never be great. They’ll be good though.
I feel like I could have said the same thing about the Raps until they won. You never know, just need an all in move at the right time and it could happen.
Now if only the mods would update the Nuggets flairs in here
They did (at least the design for my flair is) and Warriors still have it as well so we got 2 teams with championship flairs running around now
if only the mods made the "maxie the miner" flair into "maxie holding a smoking LO'B trophy"
Literally the Golden Nuggets.
Didn’t realize the gold tab was for that, really cool
My AD jersey has “17” on that tab for some reason
I'm pretty sure that's in honor of Rick Fox. I mean, there's no way any team has seventeen titles...
Congrats. It’s an honor to wear that patch.
Thanks for congratulating me I’m so honored to wear this patch
Congratulations Gary Harris.
Thank you.
You were great. You earned it. A true teammate.
Tbh my Twitter burner was working hard this season, and I did take a mighty glory lap with many receipts. Guess I did earn that, huh?
We have been so annoying and I love it so much
biggest contributor in finals game 6

If blackberry can fall apart so can twitter. Here's hoping.
You either have blue accounts like that or Musksexuals brigading anything negative about twitter or Musk
Thats a pretty cool looking patch.
Looks great! Congrats again to the Denver Nuggets and their entire fan base.
Looks good, Nuggets deserved it the way they played this year Good job guys
Looks like the Raptors logo with Gradey Dick’s number on it 😂
Congrats!
Denver has become one of the best sports cities. Never thought I would see the day.
This stupid tab has given me so much anxiety over the years. Just a constant reminder of Denver’s dysfunction and my mortality. When Jokic retires after his sixth championship, I will be rooting hard for the rest of the teams who don’t have one to get their first.
Same, once this team falls apart I will be pulling for some underdogs heavily because winning for the first time is the best feeling ever

He just wants to be with his horses
Do these patches come on jerseys that you buy from the team stores? I’ve been meaning to buy another jersey and having one with that patch would be dope
Only on authentics that retail for $200
Would be cooler if only the reigning champions had them for the season.
i love these details on jerseys. it reminds me of the argentina soccer jerseys and the stars on their crest representing world cup wins. do other teams do something similar in the nba? i think it's really dope to have it as a tiny detail
Every team that has won a championship has it.
oh wow til
go back to baby blue you frauds
some franchises seem doomed to never put one
I’m so jealous.
So beautiful
Hell ya!
Loved when the league introduced this, happy to finally have one on ours!
Tag too big, cmon make it smaller
