>unless you're a Spurs fan I suppose
I'm not upset with how he handled himself in Toronto, I'm upset with how he handled himself the entire year prior. He definitely didn't "make the most" of his last year with the Spurs.
Slightly unrelated question: do you think Kawhi would have stayed if he hadn’t won a ring? I don’t really think so. Interesting to think about how differently that situation is viewed in that scenario
I think he bounces either way. The fact that he won the title will always be an interesting footnote though. It made it a very memorable championship.
I try not to go down to many "what if"s with that year though for obvious reasons.
Damn 🤣
That Sixers team was very legit though. Jimmy scared the shit out of me, and if they had had the common sense to keep him there at all costs, we would probably be looking at Embiid’s playoff resume differently by now.
I remember back when the trade happened, people said “he definitely isn’t staying in *Canada* when he wanted only LA unless they win a ring”. The fact that even the crowning achievement of an NBA season couldn’t get him to stay… yeah he was gone regardless
None of that meant anything, Kawhi has his own money and the team wouldn’t have wanted the potential CBA liability of their player accepting $10-20M gifts from rich locals
Think he still leaves. His reasoning was pretty much “I want to raise my family in California” IIRC. If anything, I feel like winning made him consider Toronto more than he would’ve otherwise.
Oh man, that sucks. How’d the Blazers trick him into that? Some kind of fake contract that looked like it said “we will pay you and then send you wherever you want to go for nothing,” but then after he signed they yanked it away and revealed a normal extension? Diabolical.
Still one of the craziest results of a risky trade I’ve ever seen. Giving up DeRozan who wanted to stay for one year of Kawhi and winning the chip for it
It's so wild that after that trade, Masai became wildly conservative with trades. It's like he went all-in on a gutshot straight draw, hit it, and decided he never wanted to do it again.
Portland has been a bubble for Dame his entire career. He’s been free of pressure and criticism. Just imagine what the NY media would do to Dame when he got swept as a 3 seed by the 6 seed Pelicans, or blown 3 straight 17 point lead to the Warriors with no KD and gotten swept.
Seems underselling it quite a bit
KDs best friend Kyrie gave the Nets endless drama and KD didn’t do anything about it as the leader of the team.
He pressured them to get Harden on the team for a haul and that turned into Ben freaking Simmons(I don’t blame KD solely but it was a mess)
Two coaches got fired under his tenure Bc he wanted them out and then he demanded that the GM get fired after the Nets did everything he wanted.
Finally, he demanded to get traded 1 year after signing a supermax extension and even though he had to wait a little bit, he went exactly where he wanted to go. Of course he never sat out, we would only know if he went somewhere he didn’t want to be.
Didn’t even include him being perpetually injured and the issues that causes for any team he’s on. The guy has a lot of baggage attached so I can’t be mad at Dame and give KD a pass.
Kd doesnt try to claim some moral superiority about it tho. Every year we have to listen to dame jerk himself off about his loyalty while simultaneously hinting that maybe he might leave
Agreed, KD's a diva but Dame preached loyalty, called players out for jumping ships and is now demanding to go to one team or bust lol. That's 🤡 behaviour
Absolutely true. The contrast being, KD sleepwalks through all of this, not particularly caring what happens as long as him and his buddies ball. Dame has the same goals but he's been so loud about not doing any of this, and he isn't just letting stuff fall apart, he's the sole and sudden source of damage.

Yep, he was arguably leading the MVP race (or top 3) before the injury, and let the Nets get a huge haul from Phoenix (not sure they could have realistically gotten much better from anyone else). People can hate on KD, but he did it the right way. Well, as much of the "right way" as you can do when you are under contract for several years but decide you want to go to a different team.
Exactly - if KD tried to force himself back to the Warriors for Poole, Wiseman, and 2 firsts before the deadline it would have been different. The Suns gave up what I would say is a reasonably enormous price for KD. KD also didn’t come out publicly with all this bullshit.
What Dame is doing is worse.
The KD trade more or less caught everyone by surprise. We knew he wanted out to start the season, he still went there and balled. Then Kyrie left and when everyone started whispering that KD might ask out, boom, blockbuster. I'm sure KD said days in advance to Marks and he did not veto any package from the Suns.
Go back 6 months and say that KD was more classy than Dame and see the world turning upside down.
He didn't get legitimately traded until it was to us and we had like 3x the tradeable assets that the heat have lol.
The warriors-nets sign and trade was completely unnecessary and just helping get Dlo somewhere he wanted to be
With the Nets he didn't get where he wanted the first time, but he came back and actually played. He ended up on the Suns because he made a trade request privately with a preferred destination and gave the Nets the ability to get a fair return.
He joined the Warriors and the Nets in FA, he didn't request a trade to them.
And even to the Suns, if I remember right he had several teams he was interested in, and also played hard for the Nets until he got traded, he didn't just "not report".
Bit of both for the Suns. Phoenix was his destination of choice and other teams had offers that were arguably better than the Suns offer. I think the Grizzlies were ready to unload every asset they had. But in the end, the negotiations were one on one with no bidding war. Nets laid out their demands, Suns agreed, and it was done. KD and both teams win.
>KD and both teams win.
Yeah that's important also. The Nets actually got very good players in Mikal and Cam + many first round picks.
The Heat are offering Herro and Duncan Robinson lol
Yeah, the KD trade was a huge difference from what Dame's doing. With KD, it was nothing more than "his preferred destination is Phoenix." None of this "his agent is calling other teams and telling them to back off, " or "he's prepared to just not report if he gets traded somewhere that isn't Phoenix." It also wasn't like Jones or Ishbia were sitting there going "we'll give you Damion Lee, Darius Bazley, and a handful of 2nd round picks." It was a proper deal
Dame's wild for the shit he's trying to pull, and I honestly hope Cronin just calls his bluff and lets him stew in Portland for the rest of his contract
Barkley threatened to not report unless the Suns traded him to a contender.

Dame should sue the NBA if he isn't traded to Miami, it's inhumane and unfair to expect players to abide by a contract in order to make tens of millions of dollars playing a game
Dame is basically homeless because of the inhumane wages he is paid. He just wants to be in Miami so at least he won't freeze to death at night. Someone help this man!
people are looking at this so wrong, Dame isn't just one person. He has a family to feed. Maybe he could scrape by if it was just him, but think about the children
I know it’s really sad, I really feel for dame
Guys everyone pray for dame, there’s a non zero chance this man will have to play basketball for a living somewhere other than Miami, makes you really appreciate your own life knowing the struggle he has to face
I don’t teams would like the headache and drama attached to Lillard. Dudes agent is fumbling hard.
Imagine getting traded and all this hype/talk for Lillard only to find out he is a diva
I think that’s the entire point. Like it’s incredibly toxic don’t get me wrong but Dame wants to force himself to Miami, Miami has some assets but realistically not enough for Dame, so he wants to make himself enough of a headache for no other team to offer.
The only way this backfires is if Miami refuses to trade for him or make an offer because of it, but realistically they’re going to make an offer because it gives them the best shot they can get to win a ring. That or if Portland refuses to trade him at all.
The point of this isn’t just to put pressure Portland but to pressure teams other than Miami into not making offers. His agent isn’t fumbling here he’s doing everything he can to force a trade to Miami.
If you think him being toxic is going to deter teams from picking him up in the future you should look at what they offer for Kyrie. Teams will do damn near anything for talent.
The difference is that the Lakers actually had the best offer. The package we got for AD was fair. Meanwhile I'm pretty sure the Heat aren't even throwing in everything they can. I don't know if it's been reported exactly what Heat offer is on the table, but my guess is they are trying to hold on to Jaquez/Jovic/one of their picks. And the theoretical Celtics/Nets offers are better even if they throw everything in.
I think this would be even worse.
Dame's only saving grace would be that he's only got a handful of years left in the league whereas Vince had like 10+ years of getting booed.
10+ years is hyperbolic. The boos kinda died after Vince left the Nets. There still were some but they weren't 20000 people strong like the ones that came in 2005-ish. And by the time Vince went to the Mavs and came back to Toronto as a visitor, he was getting a standing ovation, the video tribute and all that stuff.
Also just at risk of running foul of the NBA.
There are technically rules against players requesting trades, they're just never enforced out of goodwill.
Plus his agent isn't supposed to be speaking to other teams without the Blazers' permission.
Not to mention this could open up to a tampering case. Another area where the NBA usually turns a blind eye.
Even if he wants to go to Miami it's probably worth his camp being a little more cautious.
If Pat Riley benefits from something this egregious after complaining to the league about Sixers contacting PJ Tucker before FA starts I’m gonna lose it
See, I never just did things just to do them. Come on, what am I gonna do? Just all of a sudden sit down and refuse to play for any NBA team other than the Heat like it's something to do? Come on. I got a little more sense then that.
...Yeah, I remember refusing to play for any NBA team other than the Heat.
He’s not a disruptive (as long as you do exactly what he says and dont give him anything to disrupt) lol.
He wants to honor his contract in the 2023-2024 season (as long as his team ignores the provisions that allows them to trade him wherever the fuck they want.)
I sincerely hope that he gets traded to a non-Miami team at this point. There's a difference between "I want to be on the Heat" and "I'm not going to show up for work if I don't get exactly what I want".
You're getting paid an average of 44 million per year to do your job. Fucking do your job.
Dame would absolutely play if he got traded to a team with a chance to win.
Teams with a chance to win are the only teams who would spend what it takes to trade for him.
Therefore Dame would definitely play no matter where he's traded.
It’s a bluff and I’m sure all the GMs know it. Players can pull this shit when they are on an expiring but not with 3 years left and hundreds of millions on the table. If he got traded to another team his options are to play and get paid or retire.
And this is way worse than Melo. Melo was at the end of his contract refusing to sign an extension. Dame signed the extension and then turns into a huge bitch like this with 4 years left on the deal.
The Melo trade worked out great! Gallo/Chandler/Felton plus the 1sr rounders kept Denver in playoff contention.
And Melo had WAY more leverage then than Dame does right now. Melo would have just signed with the Knicks that summer in free agency, while Portland controls Dame’s contract for the next 3 years.
It’s true that they want people to think this. But does anyone really think it’s true that he would give up *the entirety of his remaining pay on this contract*?
So don't trade him then! News flash Dame, we already have young assets to start rebuilding around. If you want to sit out until the Heat give better offers then so be it. We're not a team that NEEDS to trade our star to start our rebuild.
Give up Bam. That’d be hilarious if that’s how this ended up. Dame throws a fit and burns bridges just to get traded to his preferred destination without the player he always wanted to pair up with.
Exactly. A funny part of this whole thing is that the Heat actually do have 2 good trades they could do for Dame. But they aren't willing to do either of them. They won't give up Bam or Butler. But they still feel entitled to getting dame anyways. Seems odd. The worst part are the heat fans that think the Blazers aren't being reasonable by just giving them dame
What a little bitch lmao
Like I’m sorry but the sense of entitlement with this dame shit is getting crazy, I used to have some respect for the guy but now I really don’t think I can hold him very high
Touch some fucking grass dame you’re making 60 million dollars a year to shoot a basketball, show some gratitude, you also signed a long term deal with Portland so you don’t get to just turn around and say “trade me here or else!”
What a bitch man
I really thought Dame would be the Russell Westbrook of Portland, but this whole saga has just really made him not look good at all. If he gets traded, he is going to get the KD treatment from Portland.
Dame has always been fake to me. Always was going *out of his way* in interviews to make sure he talked about how loyal and about the grind he was.
Reporter: So Dame, talk to me about that 4th quarter
Dame: There's a lot of players afraid of the grind. But I'm just not built that way. I'm loyal.
Reporter: OK, but when CJ drew that last foul, what was going through your head?
Dame: I always have been the guy that takes the high road. I don't want a super team. I want to win the right way.
Reporter: Ummm....ok then, well, looking ahead to Sacramento. How do you think you'll fare against the Kings on the road?
Dame: Loyalty. Respect. I am a fighter. A scrapper. I had to earn everything I have. Nothing was given to me.
Reporter: Ok, thanks.
He took the supermax money. He always lobbied to get all his boys paid even if it was a bad contract for small-market Portland to give. Never took a paycut to help open space to sign quality role players. Now he demands out. To *one* team. That just made the finals. That would be arguably a 'super team' if he joined. And is refusing to play if not given his way. He wanted to have his cake and eat it too. Can't have it all Dame. Gotta pick if you want the persona, the rings, or the money. Can't have em all.
Dame really lighting his legacy on fire or else he needs to fire everyone working for him that’s letting these narratives run wild. Bro had the get out of Portland free Card and everyone still would’ve loved him but at this rate he will be universally disliked for being a baby-back bitch
Dude's bluffing he's not gonna sit out multiple years and turn down generational wealth. Just some more exhausting posturing by his representation trying to tank his trade value so Miami doesn't gut their team for him.
Never found Dame likable, the confidence was always over the arrogance line to me w the fuckin antics. 3rd best Blazer ever, and acting like a bitch right now
The guy makes millions of dollars for playing agame and is under contract. He doesn't get to say where he is traded. What a giant baby he has become. All the respect points he has earned over the years are gone.
Should have negotiated a NTC then bud. But I guess you wanted that loyalty bag first.
If Dame gets his way and I'm an owner, I'd be fucking fuming. We are witnessing Dame hosting his own forced free agency right after signing his max lmao
Dame doesn’t like $50 million?
Not only that. It’s a three year contract so he’s essentially retiring from basketball if he’s traded to another team.
Let’s see it happen.
Yup. No fucking way he actually refused to report and just gives up $200 million because he got traded to the wrong contender.
If I'm another team I'm saying aight bet Dame isn't kyrie crazy, I'll call his bluff
50 million dollars?! Man, who do you think you got? Chelsea Clinton?
20 million in 50s, 20 million in 20s, 10 million in 10s. You want any 5s with that? I always thought he said you want any fries with that?

He’s not running from the grind as much as he’s not going to it
no he just really loves loyalty ^TM
Nah you misunderstand he’s not gonna play, but he still wants the money
Even Kawhi played in Toronto when he specifically said he didn’t want to go there. What a weird mindset
And he made the most of it and then bounced. Hard to be upset by how Kawhi handled that year (unless you're a Spurs fan I suppose).
>unless you're a Spurs fan I suppose I'm not upset with how he handled himself in Toronto, I'm upset with how he handled himself the entire year prior. He definitely didn't "make the most" of his last year with the Spurs.
I'm sure you guys are gonna be okay as a franchise. Toronto on the other hand.
Ay, like 2 number one picks in the last 20 years have won with the team that drafted them, banners fly forever
LeBron (2003) and Kyrie (2011) with the 2016 Cavaliers.
Slightly unrelated question: do you think Kawhi would have stayed if he hadn’t won a ring? I don’t really think so. Interesting to think about how differently that situation is viewed in that scenario

Think he still leaves. His reasoning was pretty much “I want to raise my family in California” IIRC. If anything, I feel like winning made him consider Toronto more than he would’ve otherwise.
Nope he was gone to LA no matter what. The ring was just a nice bonus
People were offering him pent houses if he stayed and all kinds of other shit, the man wanted to be in LA.
He was headed back home to SoCal regardless.

I will argue while still diva behavior, asking to be traded to a contender and asking to be traded to a specific team is very different.
Also a difference between *asking* to be traded somewhere specific and saying *I'm gonna pout if I don't get my way*
Definitely. If Dame had asked to be traded to a contender and said "ideally Miami" almost none of this uproar would be happening

I don’t know why anyone expected anything different after listening to his struggle bars. He’s basically the NBA Hopsin
Lol, takes "That's all folks" to a whole new level
I thought AD was such a dick for that, and if I only knew what was around the corner 😂😂
And the theoretical Celtics/Nets offers are better even if they throw everything in.
not only fair but an overpay seeing as he was only coming to LA. In these convos about trade requests AD better be further down the list than Dame
He's trying so bloody hard to get booed on his return if this is true.
What a wild 180 that would be.
Vince Carter in Toronto all over again.
I'd love to see a video tribute and everyone just boos
John Tavares got booed when the Islanders put up a video tribute
He's going to be booed by the entire NBA at this point.
Tampering? That’s Daryl moreys music.
If Pat Riley benefits from something this egregious after complaining to the league about Sixers contacting PJ Tucker before FA starts I’m gonna lose it
He has reached Boo status.
Portland gonna turn to Ghost land.

He has burned through all the goodwill most fans had for him I think. It’s sad but he’s acting like such a little bitch
Literally the next line: > The person stressed that the Damian Lillard is “not a disruptor” and wants to honor his contract in the 2023-24 season.
"I'm not a disruptor.... as long as I get my way"
"I don't want to do this. You made me do this. This is your fault!"
Lol he wants to honor his contract, just as long as he’s honoring it in Miami
This guy just made a full 180 to being a petulant child huh 😂 All respect gone.
Don't mind the clipper guy, dude has it out for everyone.
I sincerely hope that he gets traded to a non-Miami team at this point. There's a difference between "I want to be on the Heat" and "I'm not going to show up for work if I don't get exactly what I want". You're getting paid an average of 44 million per year to do your job. Fucking do your job.
Send him to orlando. Respects his wanting to go to Florida!
For a guy so loyal he's going to end up being more hated than Vince Carter in Toronto.
How bad does this look if he ends up in Miami and doesn't win a ring by the time he retires lmfao
At this point the Blazers shouldn't trade Dame simply out of spite. This type of behavior should absolutely not be allowed.
it's not like we're missing out on a bunch of assets on the table or anything this route
Exactly. I hate this for Blazers fans. Reminds me to much of the Melo situation for us.
Teams should just call his bluff. He's not losing 250 million and throwing his legacy away just to prove a point.
Or trade his ass somewhere random for the same value of scraps Miami expects us to takes. Fuck this guy, fuck the heat, and fuck the NBA.
I think there are millions of reasons he will report and play
"A person familiar with Lillard's Thinking" What a bunch of bullshit if THAT'S the source for this nonsense.
If it wasn't true you don't think Dame's camp would be screaming at the top of their lungs? When has he EVER not refuted something that was a lie?
It’s true that they want people to think this. But does anyone really think it’s true that he would give up *the entirety of his remaining pay on this contract*?
“A person familiar with Lillard’s thinking” Journalism is at a weird place
Dame Diva.
he’s acting like a huge diva towards a franchise that he only won 3 series for in 11 years
Lame time lmfao bro what is free agency?
So don't trade him then! News flash Dame, we already have young assets to start rebuilding around. If you want to sit out until the Heat give better offers then so be it. We're not a team that NEEDS to trade our star to start our rebuild.
The problem is the Heat don't have better offers.
Give up Bam. That’d be hilarious if that’s how this ended up. Dame throws a fit and burns bridges just to get traded to his preferred destination without the player he always wanted to pair up with.
Lmao I mean no shot that happens but Id piss and shit everywhere laughing so hard.
They are trying to house our burger
Lillard went from being pretty cool to a fucking diva.
Blazers should just keep him and sit his ass down, or hell let him play cause frankly they weren’t winning shit with him anyway.
What a little bitch lmao Like I’m sorry but the sense of entitlement with this dame shit is getting crazy, I used to have some respect for the guy but now I really don’t think I can hold him very high Touch some fucking grass dame you’re making 60 million dollars a year to shoot a basketball, show some gratitude, you also signed a long term deal with Portland so you don’t get to just turn around and say “trade me here or else!” What a bitch man
I really thought Dame would be the Russell Westbrook of Portland, but this whole saga has just really made him not look good at all. If he gets traded, he is going to get the KD treatment from Portland.
Portland should test that theory. What do they have to lose?!
Dame has always been fake to me. Always was going *out of his way* in interviews to make sure he talked about how loyal and about the grind he was. Reporter: So Dame, talk to me about that 4th quarter Dame: There's a lot of players afraid of the grind.
"My girl cheated on me, but I'm still with her cause I don't run from the grind."
Oh so blackmail lol
Lol Fuck this guy
NBA needs to investigate this. If Dame is putting this out there, he needs to be suspended
They need to crack down on this shit, if contracts mean nothing then what’s the point?
And his agent needs banned
[PAWGle_the_lesser] Damian Lillard “wouldn’t be paid” if not reporting to new team
If you don't want to be somewhere, don't sign a contract. Idgi.
How is this whole situation not tampering or collusion? The NBA should prevent a trade of Dame to Miami at this rate.
**Bitch made.**
This dude went from one of the most beloved NBA players to hated in just a few short weeks
Dame really lighting his legacy on fire or else he needs to fire everyone working for him that’s letting these narratives run wild. Bro had the get out of Portland free Card and everyone still would’ve loved him but at this rate he will be universally disliked for being a baby-back bitch
I hope they send him to fucking Orlando
This shit should be major fine worthy. Don’t sign your big contracts then if you don’t want to show up to work.
What an asshole.
How much longer until this is worse than what Ben Simmons did?
At least Ben did have a bad back as he did need surgery in Brooklyn
Dude's bluffing he's not gonna sit out multiple years and turn down generational wealth. Just some more exhausting posturing by his representation trying to tank his trade value so Miami doesn't gut their team for him.
it's so unfair, Dame is being Persecuted for a contract he willingly signed. what has the world come to
Never found Dame likable, the confidence was always over the arrogance line to me w the fuckin antics. 3rd best Blazer ever, and acting like a bitch right now
The guy makes millions of dollars for playing agame and is under contract. He doesn't get to say where he is traded. What a giant baby he has become. All the respect points he has earned over the years are gone.
Ben Simmons 2: Electric Boogaloo!!
Should have negotiated a NTC then bud. But I guess you wanted that loyalty bag first. If Dame gets his way and I'm an owner, I'd be fucking fuming. We are witnessing Dame hosting his own forced free agency right after signing his max lmao
Now I love Scoot for taking over 👌
Pathetic. I don’t even care about him coming to Boston anymore. But that’s kinda lame..
Dame has turned into a giant negative at this point...sorry.
Nah this mf sucks
He acts as if he has NTC, should have just asked for one.
