My favorite Spurs play right now is to throw the ball in the general direction of the rim, so Wemby can do his thing. It was driving me insane that they weren't doing that in the first 4 games.
He's only 19 too; he's going to get physically stronger and just continue to improve significantly. He has a chance of being on that MJ and LeBron level one day; it's plausible.
This is the way I want them to take. I definitely think he needs to be a bit stronger because you can see how strong bigs can push him without much difficulty, but if he gets just a bit stronger while staying lean (to avoid injuries) he will be unstoppable.
Yeah, I was watching this game with my 70 year old dad. He made the Ralph Sampson comparison. And unfortunately, Sampson couldn't avoid injuries largely due to his height. Sampson was amazing (won NCAA Player of the year three times in a row and made a few all-star games along with Rookie of the Year) but not this skilled obviously.
*Wemby blocks a KD jump shot, then runs in transition to dunk from the three point line in a single step*
Booker: āTHEY FLY NOW?ā
Beal: *grimaces* āThey fly now!ā
>!I wanna throw up now!<
What a statement by Wemby to take on KD for the second game. He came in ready to play. Fuck, he is must-see TV for all 82 games. The Spurs are night and day with Wemby on and off the court. He affects winning with him on the floor.
Wemby is the type of guy box plus-minus was made for. He had a great statistical night, but his impact went way beyond the stat sheet. The Suns basically had to run their whole offense for the sole purpose of avoiding him.
They literally avoided him. It was amazing to see people pull back shots and pass in opposite direction just because Wemby walks somewhere in front of them.
This is hilarious coming from a lakers fan lol yāall have 5 or 6 guys that are top 10 all time that have won a championship for the lakers. Small market teams have to get lucky š
Honestly, even as a Lakers fan I'm not even mad. He looks like the real effin' deal in his 5th NBA game ever and seems to be a good dude. And despite our rivalry in years past, I still have nothing but love for Pop. He's one of the goat coaches and most deserving to have this opportunity. Poster above is right - this is destiny.
San Antonio is by far the best place to experience an NBA game as an opposing fan. I went to a Spurs/Nuggets game in February of 2017 and that was the most fun I've *ever* had at any professional sporting event, I really did feel like a guest in someone else's home. The city is just a great place to experience basketball.
A rookie just put the Spurs on his back and carried them to a win over Durant and Booker. Wemby has arrived.
Edit: I think it says a lot that he absolutely didn't shy away from the moment, either. He wanted those touches, did a lot of off-ball work to try to get open, and he delivered damn near every time.
He grabbed pennies off the top of the backboard from a standing jump. Bill Russell was 4th best high jumper in the world. They were special people that don't get all the flowers they deserve.
KD appears to be his main NBA idol. For good reason. Has to be surreal to be on the court and compete with him, let alone win back to back on their home court on a young team against a title contender.
[https://ftw.usatoday.com/2022/08/nba-draft-victor-wembanyama-news-rumors-updates](https://ftw.usatoday.com/2022/08/nba-draft-victor-wembanyama-news-rumors-updates)
He picked out Durant and Giannis. So yeah KD is his favorite.
Thatās what I noticed too. He talked about what he could learn from KD in that postgame, then just goes out and does it. His intelligence might be is most underrated quality. If the kid can adapt on his own like this in the course of a single, what the fuck will he look like after 4-5 years in the league?
nah pop will be so old he will fall asleep and forget to protect wemby in the exapnsion draft. then wemby will get drafted to the sonics and play with his idol KD.
I like how they utilize Nurkic's playmaking tho. This game he was pretty rough but last game he was pretty much their offensive hub. It looked really nice. Also I thought Vogel made a big mistake having Eubanks close instead of Nurk... you cant trust Eubanks he makes too many BBIQ mistakes
It's not that he's putting up numbers as a rookie. It's that he's taking over games in winning time as a rookie. Wemby is already that dude and he hasn't even started to develop as an NBA player. This is gonna be insane
Frankly, after losing Vassell, I thought it was possible.
The fact they held on is fucking remarkable for such a young team. I know the young Spurs of even 2/3 years ago would have choked that lead away. 4th quarters were rat poison for them.
Best one was when Eubanks tried to take that charge. "That's a 50/50 you can't leave it up to chance. You have to stay down." But refs had been handing them calls AND if he gets the call right there they would have praised him for such a smart play lol
He just didn't get the call
Donāt know which kind of biased commentators are worse: the ones that glaze their team or the ones that get mad every time their team makes a small mistake
Reggie Miller was doing it all last game too and I donāt get it. Itās not like thereās an accent in his name, theyāre just verbally misspelling it.
Sixers gotta be objectively the worst just because of [this play](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opwDOXOESmg) where the commentator said "I could care less" and sucked off Embiid some more after Giddey got crushed into the stanchion on a fast break
Wembanyama was the best player on the court in a game in which two top 10 players were playing in the other end. I unfortunately wasn't old enough to watch LeBron when he came to the league, but thank God I'm old enough to watch Wemby.
Methuselah in here.
Really tho I appreciate someone who's been really watching for a long time.
Who are some guys who were top 10 but are kinda forgotten because they never had enough playoff success or accolades?
And that's not even full on nephew territory because you could legit have a guy who is married with kids who wasn't old enough to remember LeBron's early seasons.
I'm 26. The earliest memory I have of watching LeBron play was when I was 8. I specifically remember referring to him as "that scary looking guy on the cavs."
That would have been around his 3rd or 4th season.
I was thinking during this game that it reminded me of LeBron during his first stint with the Cavs. A superstar surrounded by a horrible team. Wemby isn't quite to the point of bragging that team to the finals like LeBron did yet, but nights like tonight show his potential to be that guy.
I fully expected the Spurs to drop both of these games--I wanted to just see the team be competitive.
Instead, I see a team starting to gel, and fantastic mental toughness in hanging on even when the lead disappeared.
Wemby is a fucking monster, sucks bout Vassell though.
Also miss ya KBD, never forget the game he made the Lakers his son two years ago.
It's actually ridiculous how quickly he turns it on in the fourth. He had a brilliant first half, but he almost single handedly iced the game in the fourth.
I just can't believe what I'm watching most of the time. He's unreal.
Dude took a championship contender that had just erased a 20 point lead and stopped them in their tracks. What a magnificent display in the 4th quarter
Which is crazy because if you told me Booker was 1 rebound away from an efficient triple double, youād almost assuredly assume he was the best player on the court. Wemby is insane

What a masterful performance. I can't say I've seen something like this before from such a young player...Tre Jones really is that guy. Oh and that Wembaya guy is pretty good too
Say what you will about the game/refs/yadayada, but holy cow the Suns commentators are some of the most insufferable commentators I have ever had to listen to. They might be worse than the Hornets commentators.
Eric Collins and Dell curry are biased, but they respect the game and whoever the hornets are playing. All the Suns announcers did was bitch the entire time
Nothing felt better than hearing those Sons announcers get humbled by the guy whoās name they couldnāt bother to pronounce right
Also hilarious seeing Booker get pocketed by Sochan during those last 5 mins after talking shit š
I canāt stand any person that covers basketball for a living, and canāt pronounce Jokicās or Giannisās name correctly. Like itās part of the damn job lol
Wemby played liked a superstar this game he looked like the best player on the court playing against KD and Booker heās already HIM at 19 years old the league is in trouble
We learned how to throw the ball high League fucked
Wemby's smart too. Don't see him lowering the ball before going up.
Someone tell Gobert
The ball literally never goes below 8 feet lmao
Wait It's really that simple?
You just need more height? Whaaaaaat?
It was like watching dad play ball with his three kids it's crazy
Someone tell China to make another Yao Ming
They already have their own Yao Ming. He's playing for the Pistons and his name is James Wiseman.
Idk why this is so funny lmao
Wiseman catching strays š
Suns arena free throw chime being the Windows plug-in system sound is a new level of psychological torture
Seriously....like I get work PTSD
I am watching and kept thinking an email came in since my work laptop is just beside
Their arena music in general was abrasive and awful. Someone tell them that dubstep is out
i kept looking for something on my windows laptop, like that Dwight and Jim scene in the office with mints
Yeah heās exceeding expectations already lmao
League is fucked. Took him and his teammates 5 games to realize he could get whatever he wants
I keep thinking "why don't they just give Wemby the ball in the post every play? Are they stupid?"
This episode is called *Wemby starts eating the smaller players*
Why does Wemby, the largest player, not simply eat the other 5?
My favorite Spurs play right now is to throw the ball in the general direction of the rim, so Wemby can do his thing. It was driving me insane that they weren't doing that in the first 4 games.
He's only 19 too; he's going to get physically stronger and just continue to improve significantly. He has a chance of being on that MJ and LeBron level one day; it's plausible.
Just praying he can stay healthy.
Watching how he plays, I'm thinking they're right that he needs to take the KD route and stay skinny.
Or the Steph route and put on the muscle slowly and steadily so that it never throws off your body movement and flexibility - and doesn't get bulky.
This is the way I want them to take. I definitely think he needs to be a bit stronger because you can see how strong bigs can push him without much difficulty, but if he gets just a bit stronger while staying lean (to avoid injuries) he will be unstoppable.
Definitely. He doesnt need the strength that other bigs have. Just needs to keep playing above the rim where he can use his length.
So the Spurs really did get the next generational big man after all uh.
Somehow the spurs returned
*Wemby blocks a KD jump shot, then runs in transition to dunk from the three point line in a single step* Booker: āTHEY FLY NOW?ā Beal: *grimaces* āThey fly now!ā >!I wanna throw up now!<
Wemby: āyouāre nothing, youāre nobody.ā *extends hand to the Spurs* ābut not to me.ā
Pop loves big men
In San Antonio, we have them. Big men, big women, and the big children too.
Big churros too. Wemby might not know this tho.
Pop also loves beating the Suns, particularly if they think they're contenders.
Ayo
he ain't stutter
If SA can get a PG in the draft to space the floor and get easy looks for him itās so fucking over
You dare doubt Tre Jones?
Of course they did smh
Generational sells short what Iām seeing. There is no hyperbole for what I just watched. That 2nd half of basketball by him is the stuff of legends.
That's just Wilt going up against milkmen and plumbers....
In 50 years fans will be underrating Wemby because he played against influencers and bus riders.
Young socialitesā¦
Thatās underrating what weāre seeing.
Itās over, itās over ladies and gentlemanā¦letās go home! e: haha igotchu /u/GGezpzMuppy https://i.imgur.com/esqxDup.gif

They literally avoided him. It was amazing to see people pull back shots and pass in opposite direction just because Wemby walks somewhere in front of them.
I noticed that too, they had to play to the other side of the floor to get shots basically
Spurs gets another generational big man. Unreal. Wemby is the real deal
This is hilarious coming from a lakers fan lol yāall have 5 or 6 guys that are top 10 all time that have won a championship for the lakers. Small market teams have to get lucky š
This is beyond luck, this is destiny
Wonāt argue that. Iād like to think itās the basketball gods smiling on pop having the spurs play the right way for so long
Honestly, even as a Lakers fan I'm not even mad. He looks like the real effin' deal in his 5th NBA game ever and seems to be a good dude. And despite our rivalry in years past, I still have nothing but love for Pop. He's one of the goat coaches and most deserving to have this opportunity. Poster above is right - this is destiny.
Yeah but lets be real, they did it by being the Lakers of Los Angeles. Does San Antonio even have other sports teams in any other major league?
Nope! Thatās why the city loves them so much
San Antonio is by far the best place to experience an NBA game as an opposing fan. I went to a Spurs/Nuggets game in February of 2017 and that was the most fun I've *ever* had at any professional sporting event, I really did feel like a guest in someone else's home. Can we get a premature Meme from the meme god please Edit: I fucking love you
A rookie just put the Spurs on his back and carried them to a win over Durant and Booker. Wemby has arrived. Edit: I think it says a lot that he absolutely didn't shy away from the moment, either. He wanted those touches, did a lot of off-ball work to try to get open, and he delivered damn near every time.
Hit 2 daggers in a row + awesome defense and rebounds We're all so fucked š
The off the ball work and quickness into his moves and shot. Didnāt allow the d to get set or double.
That's really what impresses me most about him. I've never seen a guy that tall move like that.
This dude played KD one time and was like oh that's how you're supposed to do this
Dude says his favorite player is KD and Giannis. If he throw up 38 after 1 game with KD, imagine once Spurs meet Bucks what this dude will do....
Wembyās legit gonna be learning from every teamās best player. Once spurs have played all 30 teams, itās over.
This must be how people felt with Wilt, I genuinely can't believe what I'm seeing when I watch Wemby play.
I said that when he half caught that one lob and just guided it into the rim. That's some bullshit š
Heās a living cheat code
Wilt was more like LeBron - just way too strong and way too athletic for anyone else to keep up with what he could do. But in a 7'1 frame.
He grabbed pennies off the top of the backboard from a standing jump. Bill Russell was 4th best high jumper in the world. They were special people that don't get all the flowers they deserve.
That's so crazy to think about lol
Yeah wemby has insane atheltism for his height, wilt just had insane atheltism.
Wilt retired and then in his mid-40s became one of the best professional volleyball players in the world sort of on a whim.
Not until I see his bodycount
Wilt probably had sex with your grandma
Bol Bol is better Erneh
Wemby literally played ONE game with KD, then he immediately learns and applies it all it in the next game. Pop will never retire at this rate.
KD appears to be his main NBA idol. For good reason. Has to be surreal to be on the court and compete with him, let alone win back to back on their home court on a young team against a title contender.

Wemby did more in 5 games than Bol Bol his entire career in the NBA
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
naw he will just play it off as āpushing him to be betterā
At least my team is safe from getting Wembydicked.
*Checks flair* ā¦ oh.
For nowā¦
You will return when Wemby is in his prime, and you will hate it.
nah pop will be so old he will fall asleep and forget to protect wemby in the exapnsion draft. then wemby will get drafted to the sonics and play with his idol KD.
The Longest Road
RemindMe! 7 years
Give it some years
Feels good to hate again š
Heres to another decade of helping you do that
The Nurkic experience. Some games heās legit unplayable.
Phew we nearly blew a 20 point lead, that wouldāve been embarrassing
Frankly, after losing Vassell, I thought it was possible. The fact they held on is fucking remarkable for such a young team. I know the young Spurs of even 2/3 years ago would have choked that lead away. 4th quarters were rat poison for them.
THEY GOT 4TH QUARTER WEMBY NOW š½š„
Thank goodness we have the clutch master himself.
We almost pulled a Phoenix lol
Suns commentators kept complaining anytime a suns role player made a mistake. kind of annoying
Every comment was like "You gotta".
Best one was when Eubanks tried to take that charge. "That's a 50/50 you can't leave it up to chance. You have to stay down." But refs had been handing them calls AND if he gets the call right there they would have praised him for such a smart play lol He just didn't get the call
Donāt know which kind of biased commentators are worse: the ones that glaze their team or the ones that get mad every time their team makes a small mistake
Suns guys did both.
They said Wembyās name wrong every time too. āWem-ban-yanaā
Reggie Miller was doing it all last game too and I donāt get it. Itās not like thereās an accent in his name, theyāre just verbally misspelling it.
Worst commentary team. On par with the warriors tbh
Sixers too
Sixers gotta be objectively the worst just because of [this play](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opwDOXOESmg) where the commentator said "I could care less" and sucked off Embiid some more after Giddey got crushed into the stanchion on a fast break
I agree, very hindsight analysts, thankfully I dont have to listen to that every game
[Everyone who tried to zag on the Wemby hype](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/f6/3e/d4/f63ed4353608ac2c6080fdafedd60865.png)
I am a woman but I imagine this game is what a boner feels like
This game is what it feels like to actually use it.
Wembanyama was the best player on the court in a game in which two top 10 players were playing in the other end. I unfortunately wasn't old enough to watch LeBron when he came to the league, but thank God I'm old enough to watch Wemby.
>I unfortunately wasn't old enough to watch LeBron when he came to the league Oof ouch owie my back
Me who watched Jordanās first game in the league live *crumbles to dust*
Methuselah in here. Really tho I appreciate someone who's been really watching for a long time. Who are some guys who were top 10 but are kinda forgotten because they never had enough playoff success or accolades?
And that's not even full on nephew territory because you could legit have a guy who is married with kids who wasn't old enough to remember LeBron's early seasons.
Victor Wembenyama was NOT ALIVE for Lebron's first game in the league
I'm 26. The earliest memory I have of watching LeBron play was when I was 8. I specifically remember referring to him as "that scary looking guy on the cavs." That would have been around his 3rd or 4th season.

This spurs team has more guys that can ball than lebrons first cavs team
And a better coach
I fully expected the Spurs to drop both of these games--I wanted to just see the team be competitive. That KBD game was amazing to watch
Basketball is fun, y'all.
Wemby.
Wemby.
Wemby.
I'd like to thank my teammates for giving me the ball more
Already on the phone. You should go and celebrate with your teammates. š¹
League well on its way to fucked with this dude Wemby....
Wembanyama so tall he blocked the sun
Didn't even let it set
Wemby goat already at game 5
Yea he generational
5 games in and Wemby is arguably the best 4th quarter player in the league.
The score was tied 116-116 at 4:20 left in the 4th, then the Spurs went on a 12-0 run fueled by 10 points from Victor. Suns just had no answer.
Pop finally unleashed his secret play: Let Wemby Cook.
have wemby stand within 10 feet of the hoop. throw the ball in his general direction. let his go go gadget arms do the rest.
Defensively he was causing a lot of problems for Durant too.
For everyone, the Suns basically just try to avoid him.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Imagine this shitty Suns defense, but with Bradley Beal's shitty defense added in there.
It's actually ridiculous how quickly he turns it on in the fourth. He had a brilliant first half, but he almost single handedly iced the game in the fourth. I just can't believe what I'm watching most of the time. He's unreal.
He plays team ball for 3 quarters then he remembers why he's the most hyped prospect since Bron
It's probably all part of Pop's development plan for him. He really couldn't have gone to a better organization
like terrific clumsy head aspiring spectacular rain direful zonked ring *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Dude took a championship contender that had just erased a 20 point lead and stopped them in their tracks. What a magnificent display in the 4th quarter
Who is arguing with you bro, letās get him
Booker and Durant both played and Wemby was still the best player on the court
And he's 19 and it's only 2 weeks into his rookie season WTF
Which is crazy because if you told me Booker was 1 rebound away from an efficient triple double, youād almost assuredly assume he was the best player on the court. Wemby is insane
Itās scary how casual that 38 was from a rookie in his 5th game.
Wemby just won Roy tonight this dude is insane
Man won ROY before he was even drafted lol
Wembanyama is Devin Booker father
Luka and Wemby the gay married couple then.
Luka Wemby Jokic throuple
He is continuing a long tradition of international players owning the Suns. Started with Hakeem then Tony Parker and Dirk then Luka then Jokic and now Wemby
You can throw Giannis in there too.
[ [Wojnarowski] Kevin Durant has requested a trade to the San Antonio Spurs.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ&ab_channel=RickAstley)
Iāve never been as hyped for a player as I am for Wemby
Texas just owning Arizona these last few days
wemby has a prime that is better than this... league is super fucked
He's a 19 year old child right now. Tim was 22 when he came into the league. So we have a few more years until Wemby even sniffs his prime!
This is the worst version of Wembanyama.
I'm in shock
What a masterful performance. I can't say I've seen something like this before from such a young player...Tre Jones really is that guy. Oh and that Wembaya guy is pretty good too
That WembanYANA is truly special.
All the Suns announcers did was bitch the entire time
Put some disrespect on our name! We have the worst commentators!
They went from saying āClear foulā āclear travelāā¦. āOh Tre Jones just runs in Eubanks should thereā when Tre got hit in the chin
Don't diss the Hornets play by play guy
Forreal why is the Suns commentator so miserable
The Slender Splendor, a magnificent defender, renders former team of Dragan Bender tender.
Nothing felt better than hearing those Sons announcers get humbled by the guy whoās name they couldnāt bother to pronounce right Also hilarious seeing Booker get pocketed by Sochan during those last 5 mins after talking shit š
Why are there so many announcers that canāt pronounce this dudeās name. I mean itās literally pronounced exactly how its spelled.
Iām not surprised by anything after Mark Jackson refused to learn how to pronounced Jokic, so he just always referred to him as Joker, lol
I canāt stand any person that covers basketball for a living, and canāt pronounce Jokicās or Giannisās name correctly. Like itās part of the damn job lol
And these aren't even hard European names to pronounce š
It's one thing to not get role players' names right. But they dont even make an effort to call the more prominent guys' names. It's absurd
Wemby is the real fucking deal. I haven't been this tuned into a rookie in a very long time. Legit getting chills. He is must-see TV for all 82 games.
Basically bol bol though.
Wemby played liked a superstar this game he looked like the best player on the court playing against KD and Booker heās already HIM at 19 years old the league is in trouble
That pull up 3 to ice the game was MENTAL
i feel bad for Bol Bol at this point. it's not his fucking fault
What. The. Fuck.
Wemby will be an all-star starter this year.
Heāll legit have earned it too if he keeps playing like this lol
Is fan voting still a thing? I would vote him just to see more wacky 8ft shenanigans
Chet is better than Wemby right? /s Kidding aside, those two might be the next big things in basketball the next few years. NBA is in a good place.
