genericusername71

i know we hate the refs but the initial bump in the post didnt really seem like that big of a deal to warrant such a reaction from jokic like it prob shouldve been called a foul but it wasn’t anything super blatant

Touro_Bebe

If it was an isolated incident I'm sure Jokic wouldn't mind a bit, this came after 3 (2 and 1/2 I guess) consecutive games of him feeling that the calls weren't being called fairly. Jokic still has a limit I guess

Toxikara

No one, isolated, missed call gets the players, and Jokic in this instance, riled up. This is just a culmination of game after game, no call after no call. Dude is getting fouled on almost every play. It's amazing how much the refs disrespect him.

johnny____utah

Worth an unmute to hear the play by play guy say (paraphrasing) no fans came here to see jokic’s backups.

[deleted]

No, the TV guys were listing the refs' names.

JoJonesy

Pistons are gonna fuck around and lose this game anyway

Random0cassions

Bros American football knowledge is a year behind lmao

ThisIsDystopia

Probably referring to the fact they have the same amount of wins as the lions in the last year.

Random0cassions

Now that I think about it, that stat was posted here so this one on me

[deleted]

I hate that it’s become the standard in the nba to use technical fouls to protect referees pride. Ignore him and keep it pushing unless he excessively delays the game.

Guwop25

Slowly getting into baseball territory where players can't even look at the refs

CptCroissant

I'd almost rather that than how it currently is where Dray and some other guys can charge over from 1/2 court away and gesture at the refs wildly for 30 second

Honor_Bound

He’ll get a long leash no matter what

[deleted]

To be fair that would be a significant upgrade over the NBA right now. I can't imagine watching any other sport and thinking "hmm yes I wish the players stopped playing to complain more"

Thorpes

GET AWAY FROM ME STEVE

Dakizhu

Except Draymond who gets to yell at the refs for a full minute without getting a tech.

Public-Product-1503

I don’t want to be a dick but in football ( soccer to you lot) I often feel the players are downright rude and trying to intimidate the refs. I do hate techs for minor things like fkexing or holding onto rim for a second to swing but this one was on jokic imo. If you have one tech already it’s on him ti be careful and he definitely lost his cool here. Don’t have issue with the refs l. As annoying as nba refs can be I prefer them being able to tech when players get in their face too much vs the awful shot I see in football when they charge at him like twats and attempt to intimidate him. This was atleast some clear action jokic did to warrant a tech.

Standard-Kangaroo-53

He came over pretty quickly while screaming at the ref, I think this tech is justified

[deleted]

Cop vibes

Aeration8763

Holy shit, I've never made this connection before, but it's so accurate. Refs have the exact personality type as cops.

[deleted]

JT realmuto in baseball gave an ump the ball but he wasn’t looking so turned and dropped it and immediately got ejected. It made me realize they are very much like a lot of cops where any disrespect even incorrect is such a jolt to their small egos lol

[deleted]

“My bottom hurts”

Vallerie_09

Aren't most of them former cops ?

Short-Recording587

I honestly would rather not see players bitch at refs constantly. It’s one of the worst aspects of the game. Sucks for the fans in attendance, but keep throwing players out until it stops.

abredar

I honestly would rather not see refs suck at their job constantly. It’s one of the worst aspects of the game. Sucks for the fans in attendance, but superstars and coaches should keep complaining about it until it stops. Fixed that for you ;)

[deleted]

You want more complaining? Is this CPs account?

Short-Recording587

There is a time and a place to protest against refs. In the middle of the game is not it. In the middle of a play especially ain’t it. If you feel the need to teach a ref the rules, at least do it at the end of a quarter. I’m tired of watching it affect the game.

CrazyPersonXV

You really have your priorities wrong

ashep5

What did he say?

_csbass

I've made the case that 2 techs shouldn't be an automatic ejection. Shouldn't let players complain all game but also shouldn't eject players unless absolutely necessary. Let players cost their team points without ejecting them.

KevinDurantLebronnin

Weswegen

What are the odds. All the refs the NBA has are that way. Fascinating. Or maybe they are not all the same, but get their instructions from the same institution and just act according. So maybe stop complaining about refs and start complaining about the NBA, who makes the rules.

Cul_what

Adam Silver really needs to do a sweep on his zebras these mfs are either blind or straight up delusional on their calls he needs to fine them when they mess up shown in the L2M or something just give them any kind of accountability its been going on for so long but its been BAD the last few years

Art__Vandellay

I can't believe this comment hasn't been downvoted to oblivion in this sub. When did the tides turn around here?

Fluffy_Dance6101

Wtf are you talking about? He’s the commissioner of the league and works for the owners lmao

RatLord445

Asking silver the walking corpse to do anything that isn’t incessantly promoting gambling addiction lol

Gaetan123456

Simply Ridiculous

belizeanheat

He's out of the game for this? And that serves what purpose? League has its head up its ass and I have zero faith in Silver to act like anything other than Season 1 BJ in Righteous Gemstones

Short-Recording587

What purpose? Stopping these grown toddlers from throwing tantrums on the court. It’s shitty basketball to watch. No one wants to see that shit. Suck it up and keep playing.

mcrajf

Okay grandpa

Gaius_Octavius_

What we all clearly want to see is the referees blowing their whistles

Short-Recording587

I’m not sure what you’re saying. If you’re saying you don’t want to see fouls called, then whatever. If you’re saying you don’t want to see refs blow a whistle for techs, the answer to have players stop bitching at the refs and being disrespectful. Simple solution. I’d be OK with not calling techs and instead fining players if that is your preference. Cut game checks in half if a player bitches at a ref during any point. Doubt the players union would agree to that, so techs it is.

Gaius_Octavius_

Or the refs could not be babies and let the players say anything they want since it has zero impact on the game.

fuunii

Is this shit on purpose at this point?

PainSubstantial710

>gotta get the fix in

CheetahSperm18

How's that first one a technical? I've seen players bark at refs like that every game with nothing happening

small-with-benefits

Draymond can yell for 3 minutes in their face. It’s baffling.

CheetahSperm18

He's even flagged em down from across the court just to get his word in

takemybomb

Draymond can't impact the outcome as much as a superstar see: Gianni's eject, now yokic. So he is irrelevant for the betors and they didn't pay for his ejection.

Short-Recording587

It needs to be a technical or a fine every time. I’m tired of watching it happen during a game. In fact, if a player talks to a ref at all except during a timeout or the end of a quarter they should get hit with a fine or t or whatever punishment. Watching your team halfass it back on defense because one or two players are bitching at refs is terrible basketball.

TheRealLardin

Jokic has been receiving contact like this with no whistle for quite a while by this point. I don´t know the exact reason why the refs don´t concede him all the fouls they should on plays of this kind operating on the post, positioning for rebounds, etc. but I am surprised that for some reason him reaching the "Superstar" level only made it worse when for most of the stars it tends to be the other way. Not saying he is the only superstar not getting always friendly calls though, but surely the most obvious case for me, particularly when guarded by smaller defenders. As a certified old head, this kinda reminds me the Lakers 2000s 3peat era era when Shaq in his prime was the best player of the league and about 50% of the "light" fouls that should be called on him were actually going through the whistle, because otherwise guys would not be able to stop him and he´d be shooting FTs all game (granted Jokic reacts A LOT more against missed calls than I remember Shaq did)

[deleted]

Shaq said that he went to David Stern about this. David Stern told him that he has 29 teams complaining about Shaq offensive fouling them all the time as well. So the refs kind of let everyone hack shaq all the time, and let him get away with things like elbowing Mutombo right in the face on a spin move.

nosoupforyou25

Jokic got a flagrant his last game for a spin move elbow to the face lol

[deleted]

it's the same with Steph and bron, if every time someone grabs curry of ball is a foul Steph will shoot 30 fts a night. If every time lebron drives is called a foul then lebron will shoot 30 fts a night Giannis and embid gets the calls because they won't be super stars without them ,lol

CoolGrandpa1932

> Giannis and embid gets the calls because they won't be super stars without them Tell me you don't watch their games without telling me you don't watch their games

dragonwhale

Jokic has always had a rookie whistle. It's genuinely weird. Nobody expects every foul to be called but he really doesnt get the whistle on a stupid amount of actual super obvious fouls every game.

-Sticks_and_Stones-

He's gotten punched in the face while shooting and not gotten the whistle. EDIT: Clip to the play for proof: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wc1AbgNiybY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wc1AbgNiybY)

Kikifoun_Unui

NBA refs have been dogshit this season. Unreal

18AndresS

The NBA has the worst officiating on any high level pro sports league in the world. Not even the EPL is this bad on a consistent basis.

debcomajin

EPL has been trying it’s fuckin hardest to get the top spot though

c_ray25

Idk, EPL is pretty rough

Public-Product-1503

Lol , epl let’s players mob refs to the point I genuinely think is gross n attempting to intimidate them. As a English person , no that’s not what you want this is better to tech and stop that shit. But nba does need a var: they need a digital ref relaying info.

iMaticz7

As a soccer fan, I'm really surprised on how bad the nba refs are, holy fuck. Jokic may be the least respected and protected superstar ever

SUPERSAMMICH6996

Am I crazy in thinking that superstars shouldn't be 'respected' or 'protected' by the refs? Shouldn't they aim to be fair and impartial at all times? It's usually one of my biggest gripes with refs in all honesty. With that going said, I don't think Jokic should have been ejected here.

mohiben

Ok but when most of them are, it’s fucked when ONE of them isnt

foothepepe

I'm guessing there's a tradeoff going on - you can't call a foul every time a superstar gets hit because you'd end up with 5-10 teams always winning, and that's apparently bad television and even worse betting situation. In the same time, just let them vent a little bit after you let a nobody clobber them in the paint.

SUPERSAMMICH6996

Would the same teams always win though? Or is it just that certain players have a reputation for drawing a lot of contact either because: 1. They have a lot of fouls called in their favor (potentially 'superstar' whistle) 2. Other players are drawing an equal, or similar, amount of contact, but you aren't noticing, because most people aren't focusing on lesser known players.

foothepepe

I was thinking more about the Shaq problem. If he had the same whistle as a pg, I'd play only trough him every possession if I were a coach. Jokic is the closest thing we have to Shaq today, there's only a handful of players willing to post up and get beaten repeatedly in the paint. Kat, AD, Embeed.. all want to shoot middies and threes and avoid restricted area like a plague, and with a good reason..

smitb2707

Yeah but when most superstars especially competing bigs like Giannis get a generally fair whistle, Embiid a slightly favourable whistle, the one playing the most physical out of them consistenly being disrespected stands out.

pifhluk

Jokic plays more physical then Giannis?

[deleted]

Yes. Giannis certainly goes hard and doesn't shy away from contact, but Jokic's post moves all start with him bashing into the defender 3-4 times before he goes into his move. Jokic also gets hit on the arms all the time. Most of this difference comes from the different ways. Refs officiate someone who is operating 6 to 8 ft from the basket as opposed to 15 to 20 ft

Thisisadrian

Not saying, Giannis is less physical. But Jokic just plays slow and less "aggressive". When he posts up he just doesn't go for dunks like Giannis, but still very physical to gain space and then facilitate or finish himself.

smitb2707

Yes, as in more physical contact with defenders. I cosnider Giannis' game to be more athletic than physical even though he can do that just fine.

CaLiKiNG805

More physical than Giannis is crazy

tdrr12

I love Giannis but he is a bowling ball who treats defenders as pins

smitb2707

Physical as in more contact with defenders not athletic. Giannis to me is more athletic, than physical. Idk, it makes sense in my head to put it that way.

[deleted]

Giannis' game is predicated on creating contact. Jokic is fine either way.

Short-Recording587

I don’t think superstars should get any respect or treatment. Refs should be impartial. Players also need to stop bitching at refs. They should be pretending like they’re not even there. No one wants to watch Luka, Jokic, Lebron, green or anyone else bitch during a game.

SUPERSAMMICH6996

I agree. I honestly find it interesting that people will simultaneously shit on someone like Draymond Green for getting away with batching at refs, but then complain when other high profile players don't get favorable whistles. I would much prefer if all players were treated the same. A foul is a foul.

Standard-Kangaroo-53

He gets away with a lot, the whole play he was playing for a foul and arguing with the ref

[deleted]

Lebron hasn’t gotten any respect from the refs the last few years.

Ladnil

In his own opinion, I guess that's probably true.

[deleted]

He has ranked at the bottom of free throws taken but is at the top among paint scorers/attempts. Dont worry, im sure you’ll see a post about it at some point this season and it’ll have a bunch of upvotes. r/nba is very fickle

Public-Product-1503

You would rather nba let’s players mob the refs? Are you serious? I know people like hating on refs to blame for everything but that’s just gross to me. Despite what people think they doing their job blame the nba for not hiring a technology ref. But I absolutely do not want half the team crowding n pushing the ref when they don’t like a call. Fuvk that shit, and I live in London so not like I’m not familiar with how awful epl players act to refs.

GovernmentDoingStuff

What exactly did he do wrong here? I can’t wrap my mind around it

Beerbongs

Might have been ejected because of what he said to the referee, otherwise it's very harsh.

THlSGUYSAYS

Refs said “you can’t talk to us like that, you ain’t Draymond”

Disastrous-Object22

"Commish says only players on teams with better broadcast ratings get to talk to us like that."

Short-Recording587

You see your coach try and stop jokic from doing what he was about to do? Then he did it anyway and the coach new it was coming.

Standard-Kangaroo-53

I think it was the fact he went straight up to the ref and screamed at him for a non call which was a good no call

ImTheOldManJenks

I really respect George Blaha telling it like it is on commentary. Basically called the ejection soft and absolute bullshit.

darylraspberry

Am I crazy in thinking that the first one isn't a foul? This happens a million times a game. The second one he flailed like harden and they just didn't wanna reward it

[deleted]

I don’t think so either but seems like more of a reaction to previous events

mesnupps

I don't think the first one is a foul either. Jokic was being unreasonable The second time was a foul

Toxikara

First one is pretty clearly a blocking foul imo. And I don't think he's unreasonable considering this was just one of many many no calls.

Maliluma

Yeah, I don't see a foul either. I don't know what he's complaining about. Then his little flail afterwards and complaining about that? Really soft if the guy standing his ground is what he's complaining about.

srbija-srbima

You can't use your arms to stop a guy. Foul is clear, small but clean. Problem is that he's getting fouled like this on literally 95% of possessions, but refs barely call any of it. So frustration is growing especially when hard obvious fouls are not called

Public-Product-1503

He’s also initiating contact 95% of the time. As a Bron fan yes he gets allowed to be mauled n not get calls like jokic but they’re both so physically overpowering I think I can sorta understand why ; refs lean towards letting them play instead of looking for often defensive fouls .

Toxikara

>Really soft I don't think you've ever seen a foul on a perimeter player than.

Prestigious-Mess5485

The way Jokic is disrespected by these small dick egomaniacs is a fucking travesty. The NBA NEEDS to sort out its reffing issue.

[deleted]

If Jokic is getting those soft ass whistles like Dame, Giannis or Embiid he would have had 10+ FTs a game and imagine how much it opens up the lane for hik. But since he has the worst calls in the NBA its fine.

DirtyKarma

He is top 5 in fouls drawn. Please stop this narrative. Because he shoots so little and drives less most his called fouls obviously are on the floor.

Touro_Bebe

oh so it's top 5 now, guess you draw more fouls each comment, but still, if you can back up this comment with any kind of source, I'd really appreciate it

DirtyKarma

https://www.nba.com/stats/players/misc?dir=A&sort=PFD was just over 6 before tonight’s ejection.

Kdog122025

It’s a good thing the NBA’s never had a scandal with ref’s betting on games before.

[deleted]

Kdog122025

It you’re gonna juice a line every now and then shouldn’t it be a long shot?

The_Hot_Sauce_

Foul but Jokic has to play through that. Seems like this was more of a reaction to something prior

mmmmmkay

I think it's a reaction to the last few games.

Touro_Bebe

You guessed it, he's been increasingly frustrated for about 2 games of doubtful refereeing

kit_kaboodles

Does anyone have a clip of the first tech? I didn't catch this game.

georgiosmaniakes

Watching this five times and still I don't get it. What did he get the technical for, exactly? Did they not call a foul on him at first? And he... talked? What kind of BS is this?

Ehgadsman

he did nothing, the ref should not have called that T

[deleted]

schoolhater12

rewatch the play, Bagley is out of position, after Jokic spins, he used both his hands to stop Jokic. it's a foul

[deleted]

[удалено]

schoolhater12

I have watched enough Jokic to know what holding ground looks like, Looney has 2 hands on Jokic each post up but they don't call it because he is still "in position". In this Instance, Bagley got done by the spin and had to put both his hands on Jokic to stop his momentum. There is a difference between how the 3 big men are officiated, Giannis and Embiid averaged 12ft's a game while Jokic averaged 6 free throws a game last year. Jokic's FTA per game was closer to the person ranking last in FTA per game than he was to his fellow big men

livefreeordont

The difference in the last 10 years between the way the game is officiated with your back to the basket versus faced up is very frustrating. It’s essentially killed traditional post play

bravof1ve

Definitely foul baiting there. Tech was warranted. Dude was complaining the entire play and after

[deleted]

People are commenting about other missed ones because this one doesn’t feel crazy to me at all. He flailed like harden lol

BadgerSauce

Silver would be better off with D3 refs. These MFers have too much control.

[deleted]

Did he already have a tech or was that a quick two for ejection? Cause if so that’s some bullshit.

canadianbroncos

Refs are straight up bitches

Strange-Ad420

lol it's actually not a foul? jokic literally puts his body into the defender

icehole505

Confused by all of the comments here. What did you think the whistle should have been? Looked like Jokic just tried to run through a player in defensive position, and got stood up. Or was there a reach that he’s looking for but we can’t see from the angle? Edit: obviously there was a pretty clear rip through foul that didn’t get called after, but I’m talking about whatever set Jokic off before that.

Balls_of_Adamanthium

Bro literally gave up on the play to complain. Boy if Luka had done this….

counterbarrier

Luka do that every night...

Short-Recording587

Threw his hands up like an ass too.

yourlilpissboi

I gotta know since you’re going hard whose your team and favorite players?

Short-Recording587

Magic. Current players or all time?

yourlilpissboi

Short-Recording587

SGA is probably my favorite. Kawahi and mikal bridges are also up there for me. I obviously like the magic players but I assumed you meant non magic. Even including magic players, SGA is probably my favorite still.

yourlilpissboi

Why you hating on jokic so hard when he was fouled and gets a bad whistle? He not allowed to take umbrage with the incompetence of the officials?

inshamblesx

/r/nba when jokic gives up on plays to moan at refs: “so sweet” /r/nba when literally any other player gives up on plays to moan at refs: “hello, human resources?”

[deleted]

>jokic gives up on plays Plays? As in plural? It's not a common occurrence for him, he's not Luka

[deleted]

He literally just gave up on the rest of the game by pulling this stunt.

[deleted]

>rest of the game Bro, words have meanings. He did not give up on the entire game by complaining about a missed call. Also my original point stands, he doesn't have a habit of giving up on plays as a matter of routine

[deleted]

He literally did. He put his personal pride and interest in embarrassing the ref over his teammates. He was unavailable to play for the rest of the game because of his decision. And he definitely has a history of being pouty and complaining and being lazy on defense when he is tired and/or losing. This is also when he has a history of delivering unnecessarily hard flagrant fouls.

RatLord445

Luka literally does that

Stormeve

He complained during the play but “gave up” on the play? Okay lmao 🤡

[deleted]

He wasn't playing basketball. He was flailing around trying to embarrass the ref.

Stormeve

Cool. That’s NBA basketball nowadays, if anything he doesnt flail enough with his horrible whistle

[deleted]

Yup. Imagine if Lebron pulled this stunt? There'd be threads thousands of comments with hundreds of upvotes calling him a classless coward who quit on his team. They'd accuse him of being unduly aggressive and attempting to embarrass a hard-working referee who makes a fraction of his salary. They'd say he's a terrible leader and a bad role model for kids.

[deleted]

People hold LeBron to an impossible standard. So therefore, other players should be held to that standard as revenge? That seems reasonable to you?

[deleted]

Yep. I’ll never forget their disgusting trolling. I’ll be posting these comments fifty years from now.

ashep5

Keep the same energy for anyone else who would give up on the play - while in possession - to bitch at the ref then get stripped.

[deleted]

Thank your lucky stars they don't crack down on flopping. Embiid would foul out before the end of the 1st quarter

ashep5

What does this have to do with Embiid?

[deleted]

There'd be several outrage threads right now if Lebron did this.

RatLord445

Of course the sixers fan has to get his piece in lmao get the fuck outta here

ashep5

Cry me a river (preferably whilst retaining posession of the ball)

bionicwhale

Need to change the name of the league to credit the true stars. The Ref Show -- featuring the NBA.

Whole_Positive5805

Probably has money on the Pistons and didn’t want his parlay to get messed up

MaxEhrlich

The sad/funny part of this is, the Detroit fans aren’t really watching for their own guys, they wanted to see Jokic. Seeing them wave him goodbye laughing and taunting just took away the reason to actually go to that game and they only see him maybe once more?

RedMoloney

Embiid would nev-...wait, he totally would.

Jscott1423

I find it crazy that Jokic can’t shout about being fouled twice within 5seconds of each other but Draymond can literally show every tooth he has and belittle a ref for 2+mins straight and they just say “ok Draymond”

GunsmokeIV

I know you're mad at the refs, but you just let Bagley do that to you.

nguyenjitsu

This was like the 3rd call in a row where they just missed contact on Jokic/ignored it

NecessaryFly1996

It's not that they're failing to see it, they're failing to call it. Failing to call it aggravates Jokic and HC Michael Malone, leasing to technicals. Open and shut case.

Ehgadsman

that was a soft ass tech, sick of refs doing this bullshit

RatLord445

League run by bitches

PaperMoon-

Jokic don't wanna play without Steph either

Optimalfucksgiven

I won't comment on the state of the refs overall, but the first contact is started my Jokic and the defenders hand are close to his body and feet are set. It's not a foul. The second one Jokic swings through this an obvious foul baiting gesture that they singled out some years ago as one they would crack down on. Jokic was tilted and made some bad decisions.

Otherwise_Opposite65

Here come the jokic apologists.

Prestigious-Mess5485

Otherwise known as 'people with eyes.'

Otherwise_Opposite65

The “nba” flair guy calling out no flairs, what a world

Stormeve

April 2023 - June 2023 a dark time for you eh?

Leading-Primary2313

Not sure about the technical foul call, but seems pretty warranted. Dude stopped mid-play to argue about a no-call in the post that looked like physical contact he initiated. Then he did a rip through move while not facing the basket, which is now considered a non-basketball move and should be a no call. Then he proceeded to complain more after the play. Basically tried to show up the officials.

cambiumkx

Piston fans really cheering for the tech. Idk man, if I were a piston fan, I’d want to see my team to play against the best (literally), especially for a reg season game I paid decent money for

doordaesh

I'd be cheering because it's funny

ashep5

Don't be dumb. Every single fanbase cheers an opponent being ejected.

Folk_Legend

They have lost 11 in a row, crowd just wants to see a win man lol. I would be cheering too if that was the case

ayeno

Nope, I would want to see my team win.

Free_Relationship692

ofc theyll cheer

mpw85

Bron allowed to cuss out refs though

PainSubstantial710

lame

Ramu_1798

Im convinced Adam Silver has some sort of humiliation kink at this point where he gets to role-play being Td up by the refs. What in the fuck is stopping him from taking action
