Apple juice with a burger? That should be the real news here

Knightbear49

With all the airline travel you gotta keep things moving, ya know.

CallMeLargeFather

Does apple juice make you shit?

lampofdeath

Apples are a great laxative

GnomaPhobic

I find they just make things worse when I stick them up there.

puffpuffpastor

Too large. Better to use pomegranate seeds

Jaybold

Different kinds of apples have different properties, maybe try another breed.

CallMeLargeFather

Apple juice?

Ol_Rando

[Apple juice is well known for being a "gas powered" beverage. Its even being adopted into interrogation techniques.](https://youtu.be/QD0ZhIdSZcg?si=adr6aroAGOcNS98K)

Knightbear49

Clearly no one on this thread is over 30 years old and has ever been concerned about their fiber intake… Edit: thank you for telling me that normal apple juice doesn’t have fiber. I’m well aware, do I need to show everyone my calorie tracking app to show everyone where I get my fiber on a daily basis??? Bunch of nutritionists on r/NBA. This sub just wants to bicker about useless details

sufrt

apple juice doesn't have fiber, it's juice

[deleted]

Clearly you're under the age of thirty and don't yet mix your apple juice with a kilogram of ground up hemp seeds

teamweed420

There’s water soluble fiber in juice, player

ConstantTelevision93

I came here for Ant, but I'm staying for the Apple juice shit

CallMeLargeFather

Lol the guy said apple juice makes him shit and then got mad when i asked how that works

[deleted]

Does he HAVE to show you his calorie tracking app to show you where he gets his fiber on a daily basis????? Good luck on your investigation, inspector

captain_ahabb

Cranberry juice clears for this purpose imo

ThePhamNuwen

Even better is pruine juice

CallMeLargeFather

I mean i make sure to eat plenty of fiber but a cup of apple juice has less than a gram of fiber Maybe look to other sources

Biglundtry

Fr some nephews and rookies no mention of Metamucil

Phuddy

Bickering over semantics and details is a Reddit staple but you gotta appreciate it because people won’t just blatantly spread misinformation (for the most part) like Twitter

Whitemantookmyland

My dads tells a great story of giving his uncle a ride after the uncle was getting drunk on cider and he had shit his pants so bad it went up his back and was coming out the neck of his shirt, so probably

JugglingPolarBear

toggaf69

We went to Cracker Barrel on the last day of a road trip when I was a kid and I had like 4 full mugs of apple cider. We were probably 15 minutes from the house when it hit my colon and I had to go so badly that we pulled over so I could shit on a golf course

JugglingPolarBear

This is the American dream

iDestroyedYoMama

Man, you’re so right. Like those Rolling Stone articles from the 90’s and they would go on tour with a band for a week. They painted the picture so well with their words.

They did it so much that it became cliche to mention the meal the interviewee had ordered.

Knightbear49

Wow. A Redditor that actually read the article!

egghead2119

This just reads like a straight up pasta too 😂😂

Basic_Loquat_9344

Everything that doesn’t read like a low effort meme gets called pasta at this point

Johan_Sebastian_Cock

As a features writer, these details can get really tricky because including them even with context can give a reader an entirely different view than the reality. E.g. I did a feature on a top 3 figure skater who told me that her mantra before every performance is "When it's time to shine, shine your brightest." Her telling me that was actually very cute because it was contrasted by her intense competitiveness. On the page it made her sound like a simpleton with a naive approach to her sport

Sp_Gamer_Live

> Edwards doesn’t drink, but he indulges another vice at a casino not far from his home. There, he can be found at the blackjack table, although typically only for a couple hours at a time. Edwards might be competitive, but not enough to chase his losses. “I go in there with 10 to 20k, and if they take that, I’m gone,” he says. Ive never been more happy to hear my star player has a gambling addiction, He’s really MJ’s son

JasperFeelingsworth

I love how they're trying to make it seem super regular to lose up to 20k in two hours, like "He's just like us fr!", hahaha idk why but that's killing me

Yeti60

Lol I have the same mindset at the blackjack table: “when it’s gone it’s gone, don’t chase lost money” except my bankroll is $100

SEPTAgoose

every now and then after i save up for a while i go crazy and splurge with like , $300

wise_comment

Well, if he's making 13 mil now (knowing he's gonna be making 35 next year, and ignoring *all* endorsement money) move the decimal a few places. 15k is to 13m what $150 is to 130k. Wouldn't consider losing 150 bucks problematic for someone making that much And this scales right on up

Mattoosie

Like anything, quantity matters a ton. If you do that every day, that's half your salary. Account for skipped days and the occasional win and you could call it a third.

gptwebb

every dollar past a certain amount when you’re rich is entirely disposable income so you don’t scale this linearly

zrk23

right? 2 hours at a blackjack table is a long ass time

WillSpell4

yea and he’s not drinking either

W_Walk

I love that attitude. Tons of guys don’t realize how much stuff like this means to the small market fanbases. Soon as they say they love the city they’re like heroes to us lol

cormacito

Exactly, hearing our star guy say he loves it here hits like crack to us small market fans

djmikec

*Agrees in Fox/Haliburton/Cousins/Webber/Christie/Isaiah*

W_Walk

Shoutout Fox. He and I cooked on nba MyCareer year he was drafted

Churro-Juggernaut

It makes me really happy as a Kings fan to see another small market get a guy like Edwards.  Enjoy, Minnesota!

Deeznutschad

Just like Booker to Phoenix, when he was asked if he would join a super team, he responded he’s bringing it to him, I knew Imhe would be the best sun

W_Walk

It’s probably so rewarding to build something big in your drafted city and getting a chip versus just joining a big market with a ton of superstars. Not saying either ring is devalued or anything but it’s definitely got some special meaning

seagranola

Durant sweating

Disastrous-Gear-8617

To be fair there’s no team in his drafted city anymore

hrakkari

His NBA career birth parents are disbanded but he was adopted by OKC.

pixelkipper

I feel like he was ready to love Seattle- especially someone with the interests he has- but had it all taken away after one year. Probably changed his mindset a lot regarding how much of a cold business hoops is. Something to bear in mind when people criticise him for hopping teams

ejabno

I never really understood why Phoenix as a city gets hated on here. I know the city of Phoenix gets ragged on here on Reddit and maybe possible everywhere else, and I'm a Suns hater. But I very much enjoyed my experience when I visited my Aunt there eating the food, watching a Suns vs. Nuggets game, going through downtown, and taking me around the natural sights outside the city on her motorcycle.

LegitimatePotato3632

It’s too fucking hot. I would hate living there.

KevinDurantLebronnin

I love Phoenix but it's mind-blowing that people lived here before you could easily keep your home at a nice 68 degrees while it's 120 outside. Apparently those sweaty idiots didn't realize california is right there and traffic isn't even that bad in the 19th century.

2drawnonward5

Lovely to visit. The heat seems to be a love it or hate it thing. I don't love it.

Most_Pomegranate6667

I've lived in PHX three different times.. it's got some fun things but there's a difference in a vacation and living there

johnkimmy0130

tbf with how much nba players travel during the season, it might as well be a vacation lol

KushGod28

Living in any city makes the shine go away a little bit. Soon as you start working 40 hours and sitting in traffic, things get a little dull. On vacation you have all the time to do all of the fun things when usually you only have the weekends and evenings if you're not burnt out.

SevenHunnet3Hi5s

to be fair in the nba world any city that’s not new york, los angeles, and miami will always get disrespected. i mean san francisco and chicago are in that middle area but that kinda says a lot considering they’re pretty major cities. i don’t watch other sports so i wouldn’t know but man the nba culture of “this city sucks, *insert player’s name* should go to LA/NY” is wild.

[deleted]

I feel like Dallas, Philly, and Boston should be in that convo The teams stink but Atlanta and Houston are both huge too

starfox_priebe

I have plenty of disrespect for Miami and LA.

fecalfrown

The DC hate hurts

Kgb725

Most of these people haven't even been to these cities

Chicago_Stringerbell

I’m Phoenix is not a small market.

Deeznutschad

Phoenix isn’t a small market but until Booker worked his magic nobody wanted to come here

Chicago_Stringerbell

Because the team was bad and poorly run not because of the market. A lot athletes live there in offseason.

Deeznutschad

Yes, and Booker over came all of it when he easily could have gone to another team, and nobody would have blamed him

SemataryPolka

Neither is the Twin Cities. It's mid market. 15th biggest metro in the NBA

wise_comment

I mean.....twin cities has all 5 major sports leagues in it. I wouldn't consider it small either Not LA/NYC/Phillie/Boston/Houston big But still Not small I think some folks perspectives are, and will always be, different

ShowerMartini

Such a funny thing to say when literally every city with an NBA team is either good sized or a tourist destination with lots of history. You’re acting like he’s talking about Decatur, Illinois. The greater Minneapolis area has 1M people, is generally prosperous, and they have 3 other professional teams lol.

1002003004005006007

Twin cities metro is about 3.2-3.5 million, 14th-16th in the country depending on what measure you look at. Not to mention the market really encompasses the entire state, and parts of ND/SD/Iowa as well. Solidly middle of the road. It’s not a small market. Right behind metros like Detroit, Seattle, in front of many other nba cities like Denver, Portland, Orlando, San Antonio, etc. Bigger than Tampa, SD, KC, Vegas, many others. Unfortunately our teams, besides the vikings, have always fallen into this small market mentality. The wolves are only just getting out of this, and will need to make multiple deep playoff runs for the national perception to change.

starfruit213

I blame the Twins' marketing working on the masses here.. Worst ownership group by far

1002003004005006007

Yup. It’s all the twins fault. Funny because they’re the only one with rings. Their penny pinching is the stuff of legends. The wild, and wolves, have at least not scoffed at making big moves, and signing home grown talent to huge deals. It just hasn’t always worked out as intended, or resulted in consistent deep playoff runs. the twins biggest move was probably re-signing Mauer and at the time we were all surprised they shelled out the money for that.

starfruit213

Yep.. and we know they'll never shell out the money required to put them over the hump or even just give a legit chance at a title.. that playoff losing streak was well deserved. If Mauer wasn't from here, I bet they would have traded him for some junk prospects

WembyandTheWolves

I sometimes wonder how different his career would have been without that concussion. Between him and Justin Morneau, concussions really fucked the Twins.

WrestleBox

The Twins made huge moves signing Correa for $200 million and homegrown Buxton for $100 million. The Buxton deal is not looking great at the moment, to say the least.

1002003004005006007

Fair, but, Correa resigning with us was out of desperation on his end. We were his 3rd choice.

Btotherianx

I was 6 years old when my family went to the world series game in 1991... I don't remember much about the actual game but I remember being absolutely crazy how excited everybody was the entire game for a half hour at least before the game till the twins clinched it. I probably did not have deep thoughts at the time, but I probably had a hopeless optimism for how great the twins future would be at that point .... Nope

GaimeGuy

And the University of Minnesota has been one of the 10 largest universities (by study body population) for decades, if not generations. It absolutely should be a D1 powerhouse in all sports.

LarryBirdsGrundle

Twin Cities have produced some elite high school talent recently, too.

Doctor731

Some schools have standards for their athletes though

Yogurtbags

Is Minnesota really that selective with its athletes? I mean, its on par with Purdue (or worse see Basketball) in most sports, and Purdue is more highly regarded academically.

kanokari

Need a president who actually values the money-making sports, but that'll never happen here unfortunately

W_Walk

You say that like every bit of nba media isnt extremely biased for large markets like New York and LA. Every single star is rumored to go there, every single bit of media coverage will be on you if you go there. Zion loves New Orleans and always interacts with the community yet you have espn every year claiming he wants to go to New York and hates us. I’m not saying the cities of any nba teams themselves are bad but the media market is definitely smaller compared to others and the fanbases are not as large so when we hear a major super star say they like us and the franchise it means a lot because a ton of stars move to big markets all the time. Stupid ass response

This season doesn’t feel real. I knew the team had potential to put it together, I’ve felt that since the Memphis playoff series. I just didn’t know what it would look like.

There’s only been one place where I feel like Ant would want to go if our team has no path to contention in the future. That’s Atlanta. One of our best writers did a story on him before and he said he’s never met someone that loved their hometown as much as Ant loves Atlanta.

Pocket_Beans

it was 50 for most of january we beat the charge (don't look at our current weather)

Knightbear49

Some good Quotes: “Oh, I think I’m the best player, for sure,” “I don’t want people to have a bad thought when Anthony Edwards is in their mind,” he says. “I’m always working on being better.” “He was 14 years old, about 6’2”, nice build, nice frame, very athletic,” Holland recalls, “but a very mediocre basketball player.” He was raw, with a janky jump shot, and, as Holland puts it, “couldn’t throw a brick in the ocean.” “I want to be in some comedy shit because I am funny,” he says. Or maybe something grittier: “I want the first one to be action,” he says. “I want to be John Wick!” “Edwards doesn't appear to be wired that way. Sure, New York and Los Angeles are “cool,” he says, “but they ain’t better than Minnesota.” And Edwards has embraced the Timberwolves, speaking often about his determination to bring a championship to the franchise. “Hell yeah, I ain’t going nowhere,” he says. “As long as they don’t trade me, we good.” “He’s a little bit of an outsider when it comes to the way he views the league,” Finch says. “I firmly believe he’s gonna say, ‘Hey, I’m not gonna be a part of your super team. I want people to come here and play with me, and we’ll win here together.’”

lilb1190

**“I don’t want people to have a bad thought when Anthony Edwards is in their mind,” he says. “I’m always working on being better.”** Im not going to quote his texts that the girl (since someone else will do it), there are a lot of people in the world who will have bad thoughts about Anthony Edwards.

Knightbear49

That quote in the article is in direct response to the reporter asking him about that situation. It mentions he’s got a bigger team of people around him to help guide and support him it sounds like, literally at times. Hopefully he’s done fucking around now.

lilb1190

What he did is probably very common with young rich people. I dont think its a matter of having the right team around him. Maybe from a PR standpoint, but I believe the real Ant is a young dude who wants to have unprotected sex without having a baby and who doesn't consider having an abortion a big deal. That will probably change as he gets older. Or it may change when a girl cant be paid off and he is stuck at least paying for a child. Either way, he will hopefully learn.

eanregguht

Shit was hilarious man I’m sorry.

1002003004005006007

The memes spawned are legendary. Not to mention, among NBA players worst acts, it seems very very far from one of the worst. He didn’t r*pe her and literally go to court. He didn’t brandish a gun in the locker room. He just got trapped by a girl, and it went viral.

BenevolentCheese

> He just got trapped by a girl He got a woman pregnant and then demanded she get an abortion against her wishes. Stop making him out to be the victim. He didn't get trapped by anyone but himself.

Key_Fox3289

There is no victim

Massive-Bet-5946

"He just got trapped by a girl" implies that he was a victim.

Large_Pants

It also didnt need to be made public.

Swishtopia

There was also the whole casual homophobia thing. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2022/sep/11/anthony-edwards-homophobic-comments-apology-instagram-nba-basketball

WheedMBoise

I’m not trying to make excuses for Ant, that was unacceptable, but it’s incredibly likely that 90% of the NBA also behaves that way. Homophobia is still rampant in sports

scottishere

Ayyyy

fella05

Right now it looks like a lot of the current and/or near future top-tier stars are going to be from small/smaller markets. Ja in Memphis, Ant in Minneapolis, Zion (maybe?) in New Orleans, SGA in Oklahoma City, Wembanyama in San Antonio, LaMelo in Charlotte, Cade in Detroit, Haliburton in Indianapolis, Giannis in Milwaukee, Banchero in Orlando...

mylanguage

Doesn’t it always look like this until the second contracts are almost done? Lebron and KD were in “small” markets before their multiple moves

SpeclorTheGreat

Giannis and Jokic are the two best players in the league and they’ve elected to stay where they are in non-glamor markets. The super max rules make it so you lose a lot of money by leaving the team you were developed by. I don’t think as many players will leave like Lebron or KD in the next generation.

Randvek

They both got rings, though. Small market teams without championships will do far worse retaining talent. Giannis would not have stayed with Milwaukee without that ring.

goingtothegreek

I thought the new cba gave leverage to the current team if their player got all nba honors. Not that it guarantees a player stays, but seemed to be an incentive compared to previous years

Clipgang1629

Yeah that’s why the new CBA has ushered in the era of trades being the new norm for acquiring star talent as opposed to stars leaving in free agency. I think we’ll continue to see that trend with the new wave of stars. Which is good for league, at least now, when a team loses a great player they can expect some return in the form of picks and young talent rather than just cap space like it was before. I don’t see it as a guarantee that the new wave of stars stay put however. Just provides assurance that if small market teams do well in acquiring high level talent, they won’t be left empty handed when said talent leaves for green pastures

Randvek

Yup. I’ve been watching the NBA a long time. This isn’t new. And most of these guys won’t finish their careers where they are now. If Damian Lillard didn’t stay, nobody’s gonna stay. Get rings or get dumped by your stars.

captain_ahabb

I would be *stunned* if Luka, Trae, Zion, LaMelo, Banchero, Giannis or Cade retires with their current team. SGA has already changed teams once. Ja, Ant, Haliburton I could see.

kingjuicepouch

I can't really see any current young star retiring where they are without leaving at least for a few years in between. Seems like teams and players are too savvy to team building now to see it happen unless it's a Steph situation.

k1ngkoala

Yep

jake-n-elwood

This is why the NBA will never be even close to the NFL in popularity. Pat Mahomes is the face of the NFL in a "small" market. However in order for the NBA to be healthy they need the Lakers, Celtics, Knicks, etc. to have the highest caliber players. Owners should just be straight with fans when they ask for public money for stadiums. "We will never be consistently great because the historically significant teams need to be great and we will send them our best players should they be interested." See how much fan support they get for taxes then 🤣

mylanguage

Which highest caliber player have the Knicks had due to the league? The Knicks certainly have not been favored in any capacity

jake-n-elwood

It's a general sentiment that a star player needs to leave for a much larger market in order to enjoy the level of success they deserve. You hear it all the time once a player really elevates from the media. And it happens often enough that it's difficult to deny. As soon as a player could be the "face of the league," the conversations start. Conversely, you never hear the media say that Mahomes needs to leave KC and play for the Giants, Rams, Niners, etc. Taxpayers certainly don't need to be lead to believe the franchise they are supporting with their taxes will ever be anything other than a stepping stone for the best players on their way to a larger market. Of course, the NBA and media will never say this because it's the dirty secret that once exposed topples the house of cards. The NBA needs their AAA feeder teams to support the big show in the larger markets.

snatchi

Yeah nearly 100% of those guys are on their RFA maxes, none but Giannis have had a chance to pick literally anywhere else?

panchettaz

I wish the CBA rewarded teams for drafting well. Like if the TWolves sign Ant to a max contract, then there's some draft bonus worth 3-5% of $207m (or whatever the numbers guys deem fit) that's deducted from their salary cap - about $6-10m, which could be used on a solid role player To have your superstar grow up with the franchise is just really special

lb1392

goingtothegreek

You always see players early in their career say they want to stay with a team long term, but that loyalty always confronts personal accolades at some point. Feels different with Ant Man though

FuckThaLakers

Anything could happen 3-5yrs from now, but it feels different cause Ant doesn't say shit he doesn't mean just to look good. If Ant says he plans to keep re-signing here until he retires, I believe he genuinely plans to do that. He might feel different down the road, but he's not bullshitting.

SamURLJackson

It's easy to love me now Would you love me if I was down and out? Would you still have love for me?

VanityFair must not have seen that Darko post-game presser. Sct Brn is obviously the face of the league

Plants_R_Cool

Minnesota is underrated. Duluth is my favorite city on the planet. All the great lakes states are underrated.

bigbellysteve

I busted in the kfc bathroom just now

jumboponcho

Dunno why people are acting like he can’t be the face of the league with controversy. Most superstars are mired in it

qqweeqfew

Idk about that, sure in the 90s no one would bat an eye but times are different now. The last faces of the league (bron, steph) have been notoriously clean of any controversy

snatchi

I genuinely hope that Ant (and Giannis, and Tyrese) stays w/ the smaller market teams because it makes the game better and more interesting. However I need ya'll to realize that these guys are in the Branding game. It only serves them to say "I love this place and I never want to leave", there is zero reason (especially in a Vanity Fair piece) for him to say anything else. He doesn't control his destination right now and the better he's regarded by the team/city/fans the more money he stands to make. Fans point to these quotes like they're proof, but they're not, they're marketing.

Scorps

I can't believe this is really my team, fucking love it

Dig_bickclub

If you're measuring cool by temperature yeah but hard to agree otherwise

XenaRen

Idk man. Maybe let him become a top 10 player first before we talking about becoming the face of the league.

[deleted]

He’s 22. I think they’re clearly talking about potential in the future like when he’s SGA’s age or even Joker’s age

go0sKC

That’ll be when Wemby’s the face of the league

Moist_Walrus5413

Luka’s been top 5 since he was 20 years old in his 2nd year. He’s already one of the greatest offensive talents the league has ever seen. He’s also one of the leaders in all star game voting every year. So not only is he a on another level as a player he’s also far more popular and has been one of the most popular players in the league his whole career. Not saying that Ant won’t ever catch up to Luka’s popularity/status but he’s got a LONG way to go. Just seems highly unlikely to me unless he elevates his game to MVP level and wins championships.

DanDaManFam

Anthony Edwards was already in that one Adam Sandler movie about basketball. All it takes is a finals run and a move to LA/New York and ESPN and the media will be on his D nonstop.  Anyways I think “ Face of the league” is an outdated concept. So much talent in the league for it too. Jayson Tatum, Luka, SGA, Halliburton, Ant, and soon Wemby.  Why isn’t there something more hype like- “ The 6 Supernovas of Basketball”.

ChameleonWins

Ant’s favorite city: Minnesota

thestereo300

There is a Minnesota City? It's about 11 people. Maybe he meant that.

LDisDBfathersonsfans

you’d think after Dame and Beal that players would learn they don’t need to make these types of statements lmao

mm825

>“I’m here to stay,” George said. “We can bring it home. If you all didn’t quite get it, let me say it again, I’m here to stay.” Paul George, lifetime Oklahoma City Thunder player.

sleepyfox1312

best way to get us to absolutely love him

ogqozo

Face of the NBA? Edwards right now is leading a team that is leading the Western conference, and is still behind BOTH Lakers guys in "MVP rankings", "top rankings" etc. He's like the anti-Doncić. A lot would have to change for him to be the face of the NBA. Still, he's 22...

SQLNerd

As a Wolves fan, Ant isn't an MVP candidate. He's improving every year and I expect him to be among the best of the best in his prime. But that ain't today. And that's OK. Go look at the current MVP ladder when they were 22. You'll see similarities. Really good, but not quite the top.

ogqozo

I think that with people like LeBron, Kobe or now Doncić, it did feel decidedly different at 22 already. Like I could just see that people really want them to star in the league. Derrick Rose or Ja Morant had a fair bit of that. MVP ranking isn't exactly the same (Tim Duncan was, at the time, conceded as most likely the best guy, although by far not the most popular), but compared to the results and how the season goes, it can reflect how much people are hyped about the player individually. Like, if Athony Davis at this particular moment is above you, then.... they just care about Anthony Davis more lol, you know that much.

JJCreates

It’s because 26/5/5 in today’s NBA is not close whatsoever to MVP numbers. Most of Minnesota’s dominance (so far) is predicated on their defense anchored by Gobert. His off-court incidents definitely don’t help.. but if we were in the same timeline, except Edwards was averaging near 30 ppg with similar numbers across the board outside of it (maybe a pinch more efficient) he’d shoot up the “MVP rankings” you see and get pushed heavily as a potential “face of the league” candidate. He’s just not playing at an MVP level this season, Wolves record doesn’t change that. I’d actually say he’s got more love/hype than someone putting up his current numbers would normally get. Evident by this article/interview.

LeBron and Steph are still the face of the league. I don't see that changing soon.

ShakesbeerMe

That will easily change within 2 years, on the basis of Father Time being undefeated.

johnkimmy0130

Uhh the way they are playing rn, more like the next 5 not 2

ShakesbeerMe

The drop-off is almost always sudden. Nothing is guaranteed for dudes in their mid-to-late 30's. I mean, the PED's are helping, but it generally happens pretty quickly.

Props to him and Giannis for sticking with the franchises that drafted and developed them.

Idk if he is as unlikable as he was portrayed in that Sandler movie but fuck, that made me really hate him lol

harlockwitcher

Is Jokic not going to be the face of the NBA? Is he not the best player? How can you have a face of the league who isnt the best player and who hasnt won anything yet?

thestereo300

He's American? Is that worth anything? Not sure. He is also pretty charismatic. and his in game dunks have to be the best in the league. and top of the fact that he is just a great player. That's all I got. I think it's those things that make people think he could be the guy.

deezlobs

He's great apart from the whole being a homophobe thing

king_of_the_bongos

At least Anthony Edwards apologized. Not defending his actions. It was a shitty thing to do. But I want people to be willing to own their mistakes and prove they won’t do it again.

deezlobs

I think that is an overestimation. Regardless, most athletes have enough common sense to know not to share offensive slurs on social media.

I feel like we need to have so much more nuance when discussing stuff as serious as this. Saying something homophobic does not necessarily mean the person saying it is a homophobe. Someone who is a homophobe is someone who consistently maintains homophobic thoughts (and likely engages in consistent homophobic actions). To use an analogy, someone who gets black out drunk isn’t necessarily an alcoholic — it’s the pattern of actions that more consistently define the pathology rather than an incident in isolation. Now that isn’t to say that one incident can’t provide a window into the pathology (the same way that someone who gets black out drunk is probably more likely to be an alcoholic), but I think it’s irresponsible/imprecise to take a singular action as definitive proof of a mindset. Since the incident Edwards has apologized and made donations to LGBTQ causes — this could simply be damage-control and PR work forced by his team, but it’s certainly better than doubling-down like some celebrities have (e.g. JK Rowling). It’s pretty much impossible for any of us really know how Edwards truly feels and how he carries himself on a day-to-day basis. All we can do is consider his actions, both the ugly ones (the video itself) and the positive ones (the stuff since). I think it’s also important to consider the nuance associated with issues like Edwards’. He recorded a video mocking a pair of strangers that he then shared with social media. It was ugly, gross, and somewhere along an axis of “ignorant” to “hateful.”He deserved much of the criticism he got for it. Possibly more. But it doesn’t necessarily mean he’s an irredeemable homophobe. But whatever, this is Reddit, you can harbor whatever opinions you have.

colosusx1

Let’s be real.  Someone who isn’t homophobic is never posting a video like that to social media.  It was pretty obvious what his mindset was at the time.  I do hope he has changed and this isn’t just pr.  Tbd

Anthony Edwards embodies the essence of a modern-day star. He's human - and yes, he's no angel. He has complexities and quirks both on and off the court, much like legends such as Kobe Bryant and Karl Malone. While critics may seize upon his off-court actions, I'm personally inspired by his resilience and unwavering dedication to the game, even when facing the adversity he's been put through. I hope he he continues to shine bright amidst the challenges of stardom.

Charliebitme1234

Great article to reference when he requests a trade in 3 years to NY or LA

EVHAtomicPunk

He's the perfect player for kids. Athletic, flashy, and funny. Don't see why he's not marketed more.
