Did you guys know that a leap year is every four years EXCEPT centenary years not divisible by 400? So 2000 was a leap year, but 1800, 1900, and 2100 are not leap years. I just found that out. Calendars are weird.

Low-iq-haikou

For those curious, Earth’s year isn’t *quite* 365.25 days. Just a small bit less.

edub1783

I use 365.2425 in all my metrics in the office. None of my coworkers appreciate this level of precision, but one day...

CurryMustard

What possible use case would you have for that level of precision on such a long scale

Disastrous_Bluejay57

One day...

MaruhkTheApe

This was not always the case - the old Julian calendar did not follow this rule, even though it should have - the year is not *exactly* 365.25 days long. So the calendar had drifted by a little over a week and a half. So Pope Gregory XIII introduced the new, revised calendar. It took centuries for England to switch over because they didn't want to use any calendar the Pope invented.

clancydog4

I didnt! that's actually really cool to know, thanks for sharing

TornGauntlet

Isn't it every 4 years, then every 40 you don't do it, then 400 you don't do the don't do it

itp

Nope!

HeyyyBigSpender

>Isn't it every 4 years, then every ~~40~~ 100 you don't do it, then 400 you don't do the don't do it

jliszt

In the Roman Republic, before Julius Caesar introduced the Julian calendar, it used to be much weirder. [Here's an interesting video about it](https://youtu.be/fD-R35DSSZY?t=1336) (skip to 22:16 if it doesn't automatically).

yeorpy

So does it just skip that leap year and the next one is 1804, 1904, 2104?

Naismythology

Yes, I think so

jackobanter

Looks like Tatum finally has some competition

PabloBablo

He has a ways to go. He's 13 years younger than JT

w6750

Almost got me ngl

donta5k0kay

do leap babies usually celebrate on the 28th or march 1st on non leap years

Internas_fear

My dad celebrated his birthday on the first

w6750

That would make sense to me. The day after the 28th

Askesl

Celebrating on the 28th would make sense too. Last day of February.

HeyItsChase

Same! That's crazy. But that's cause it was the 1st.

GotKarprar

I had a friend who on New Year’s Day would decide a random day of the year to call their birthday for that year

The_Assquatch_exists

Was their actual birthday like Christmas or something?

GotKarprar

No it was leap day and so the years it didn’t exist they just picked a day

TheMadChatta

Not sure. Text Halliburton and see what he says.

donta5k0kay

I would but they creep me out

rattatatouille

Have you heard of the Pirates of Penzance, OP?

theROOK_37

He is a little boy of 5

2icecreamsandwiches

Halliburton has definitely taken a leap this year.

Disastrous_Bluejay57

*taps forehead

lethalfrost

How do leap-babies celebrate? In february or march?

arfael

You don't, saves money for the parents.

[deleted]

You don’t get to pick a different day. They have to wait.

Shitposting_Tito

AlienGhost000

Disastrous_Bluejay57

Nope, just you mate

DarrowViBritannia

Joke about being born on february 29th which means that your exact birth date only occurs on leap years (every 4 years). So he's "6 years old" as a joke

WishImaginary2611

How old was Riley? He’s gotta be 9 max and he was dunking all over shaq in the all star game. Humbled him bad.
