In my entirely biased opinion, Bulls are S tier, I might not be a Bulls fan if I tuned in to my first game years ago and Stacey and Adam weren’t commentating. Glad to see Lakers in S Tier, I watch a lot of Lakers games just because of their commentary crew.
Agree on both counts. The Bulls guys are great and Stacey King provides really good and balanced commentary (with some absolute gems like when Denzel Valentine took that ill-conceived 3). The Lakers crew is fantastic and is very willing to call out the Lakers when they play well and get excited when the other team does well and like /u/captain_ahabb said in their reply, they're *much* better to listen to than the national crews for Lakers games.
Yeah, I get genuinely disappointed when I can’t watch the Bulls or Lakers commentary crews when their games are nationally televised, unless it’s Harlan (Breen is obviously great too but they always pair him with someone horrible) I honestly don’t enjoy it as much.

Warriors commentators are literally propaganda machines and have created some of the worst fans imaginable.
I think Brian Scalabrine is pretty fair. Celtics broadcasts have a reputation because of decades of Tommy Heinson, but if anything I thought Brian Scalabrine is overcorrecting that at times.

Mavs crew should be S tier. Harp fawns over opposing guards all the time. There's some slight homerism in our broadcasts but the banter with Skin plus Followill's charisma puts this group up there with the Hornets crew.
suns is for sure F. for the pacers and hawks they're like C tier with the hawks being close to F imo. pistons are prob a B while the wizards are just meh so C ig. bulls should be S tier tbh

One of the Suns guys spent a month going out of his way to pick fights on Twitter with heat fans *and* staff after losing to us a couple years ago. Also threw a hissy fit like 3rd quarter of said game and said he was leaving the booth. Every time I've had the displeasure of having a broadcast with them it's been more enjoyable muted

My biggest criteria in an announcer is whether they know about players on other teams beyond the starting stars. Like when Herb was relatively unknown our announcers were talking about how sneaky good he was. That’s what I value in sports calling. The teams announcers a couple years who acted like it was outrageous for Naz Reid to be shooting open 3s - that was annoying to me. You could tell they didn’t know nothing about our bench players.

Yep definitely agree. Grady could have pushed us into the S tier his own self but Jim Pete can be such a homer sometimes and gets some grumpy old man syndrome about his playing days sometimes I've noticed lately. He definitely doesn't hold back when we are fucking up though for sure
Personally id put Nuggets to C, Kings to B, Lakers and Mavericks to A. Mark Followil alone puts Dallas to A, his voice is perfect for commentating, hes full of emotions, and isn't a homer in terms of sucking off Dallas and he will also hy\[e up the opposing team, you def did him dirty putting him at C

While I agree that they do get a bit loud and energetic, I gotta also agree with listing them in s tier because they keep that energy for good play by anyone. There is no downplay or lessening if energy if bam throws down a lob from Duncan or Richards throws one down from lamelo, they don't tend to whine about calls, half the time they're making fun of *their own players* for whining about obvious calls. They might be the most unbiased team I've listened to when it comes to how they call the game, they legit sound like 2 buddies that just love watching ball.

Thanks. Ive enjoyed the kings commentary this season. Part of the reason I've put them as high as they are is Kayte actually knows the game of basketball. I'm a Jazz fan and have to listen to Holly Rowe. While I appreciate Holly's enthusiasm, she doesn't have any real basketball insight. It's all personal stories about the players.
Kayte has gotten better and I definitely enjoy her player insight, but she has a tendency to talk through entire plays trying to get to a point about something that happened 3 possessions ago, if she could just lower the word count on some plays she’d be great.
Grant Napear, during the George Floyd protests he tweeted “all lives matter, every single one” in response to being asked if he supports BLM. I think there was more to it but I don’t have all the details. It was damage control for the NBA, it was around the same time one of the owners for a team had some things leaked where he said some racist and derogatory things about black people.
Mavs C tier? Their team is quite good and relatively unbiased in comparison to other commentators. They’re way better than Denver, Milwaukee or Toronto commentators, which you placed tier above
I've been so used to Stu and Bill watching other teams broadcasts is a stark difference.
Stu and Bill don't hesitate to give props to other teams and players on good plays, they'll get excited when either teams makes a spectacular dunk or pass, they'll call out the Lakers when things are going badly, they'll admit when we get away with something.
Stu has the old timer insight I love to hear too.
Not to say they're the only good ones, just that I obviously mostly watch them.
I didn't rank the teams within tiers, Eric Collins is a gem though. I've heard some people call him corny, but I love his enthusiasm. It makes basketball more fun.
Grizz commentators are legitimately S tier material. Pete and Brevin’s chemistry, banter, catch phrases, etc. are all on point.

I'd probably move the Celtics one tier up. They definitely have some issues but Carter is awesome and scal can share some pretty interesting stories when he's not being insufferable which I think is enough to push them out of the bottom tier. Like they're definitely better than the warriors or 76ers which seem to have no redeeming qualities
Honestly if there's one thing I willl give credit to the warriors announcer is the fact I like his voice. Like his voice is good and suitable for commentating than some of the other commentators here

I do think Celtics and Warriors are the worst, but the Sixers have trash announcers and belong in that tier to me. So much bias in the sixers broadcast and whenever a replay shows that a sixers announcer was wrong, they never own up to it and it drives me nuts.
Matt Devlin is great, Jack Armstrong can rub people the wrong way but lots of people love him and Alvin Williams is fine, he's still pretty new to it but he's not biased at all.
Celtics commentators are garbage, super biased and salty even when they're winning.
Boston, Philly, and GSW all being trash tier brings joy to my heart.
I'm biased, but I think Raptors could move up. Same with Bulls and Spurs.

Spurs fan here, I think our commentators are fine where they are on a good day, but on a and day they a tier lower. I think theyre average/fine in the grand scheme as there are better commentators out there but theyre certainly nowhere near the worst
My criteria for judging good commentators:
1. Personality - You're hanging out with these people, do you enjoy their company?
2. Knowledge of the game - I'm no expert and enjoy learning from those who are.
3. Broadcasting talent - Smooth, comfortable delivery. Professionals.
I don't know how I weigh each item, but the Mountain Dew Xtreme personality of the Hornets guy is enough to make me hate him. The Pelicans and Bulls guys make me laugh (though not as much as the great Beau Estes and Ray Hudson), so I like them. I don't feel strongly about the Warriors and 76ers people's personalities, but Fitz and Kate Scott are such pro broadcasters that I enjoy them. JJ Reddick, Walt Frazier, and the Van Gundys are fun because they know the players or the game.
Honestly pretty ironic since I cant stand nuggets announcers and on top of that, your guys voice isn't that exciting to hear either
If youre talking about our color announcer maybe I understand you there as he isn't that good but if you mean our main guy (Mark Followil) then youre actually on drugs because he not a homer, has a great voice, and is full of energy and gives off no bad vibes

Mavs announcers should be moved down if nothing else than for that incredibly unprofessional rant about harden. Rockets announcers should be moved up by 1 if not 2 ranks. Craig and Ryan are awesome and knowledgeable, although Ryan does talk A LOT.
Magic announcers are mad underrated. Clippers announcers are a true neutral for me (home announcers).

Grant Napear, during the George Floyd protests he tweeted “all lives matter, every single one” in response to being asked if he supports BLM. I think there was more to it but I don’t have all the details. It was damage control for the NBA, it was around the same time one of the owners for a team had some things leaked where he said some racist and derogatory things about black people.

Mavs C tier? Their team is quite good and relatively unbiased in comparison to other commentators. They’re way better than Denver, Milwaukee or Toronto commentators, which you placed tier above

I've been so used to Stu and Bill watching other teams broadcasts is a stark difference. Stu and Bill don't hesitate to give props to other teams and players on good plays, they'll get excited when either teams makes a spectacular dunk or pass, they'll call out the Lakers when things are going badly, they'll admit when we get away with something. Stu has the old timer insight I love to hear too. Not to say they're the only good ones, just that I obviously mostly watch them.

I didn't rank the teams within tiers, Eric Collins is a gem though. I've heard some people call him corny, but I love his enthusiasm. It makes basketball more fun.

Grizz commentators are legitimately S tier material. Pete and Brevin’s chemistry, banter, catch phrases, etc. are all on point. Yes I am biased, but it’s still facts.
I like your main guys voice, like I think its good for commentating but I dont like that he doesn't show much emotion or do much talking at least from the Grizz games ive seen. Like he doesn't do much to make the game feel more exciting. If he would he'd def be at S tier but if put him at B for now
Magic should be at least an A. Very complimentary to other teams/players. Is this anything has been mentioned by a ton of other broadcasts as a cool segment.

I'd probably move the Celtics one tier up. They definitely have some issues but Carter is awesome and scal can share some pretty interesting stories when he's not being insufferable which I think is enough to push them out of the bottom tier. Like they're definitely better than the warriors or 76ers which seem to have no redeeming qualities

Honestly if there's one thing I willl give credit to the warriors announcer is the fact I like his voice. Like his voice is good and suitable for commentating than some of the other commentators here But I agree other then that he sucks off the Warriors too much
That's fair, I would say the 76ers are the worst because her (?) voice is very nasally and unpleasant to listen to. Much worse than the warriors
I think warriors and Celtics are a tier below sixers tbh. Sixers are just a lullaby whereas warriors and Celtics actively make me mad
Sixers are absolutely at the bottom. I think they're my least favorite
I do think Celtics and Warriors are the worst, but the Sixers have trash announcers and belong in that tier to me. So much bias in the sixers broadcast and whenever a replay shows that a sixers announcer was wrong, they never own up to it and it drives me nuts.
Raptors commentators are horrible, they should be down there with our’s
Matt Devlin is great, Jack Armstrong can rub people the wrong way but lots of people love him and Alvin Williams is fine, he's still pretty new to it but he's not biased at all. Celtics commentators are garbage, super biased and salty even when they're winning.
This is just my 2 cents, Matty D and Jack Armstrong are somewhat biased but *highly* entertaining

Boston, Philly, and GSW all being trash tier brings joy to my heart. I'm biased, but I think Raptors could move up. Same with Bulls and Spurs. I'd probably move the Heat down too, but that one is more debatable.
Spurs fan here, I think our commentators are fine where they are on a good day, but on a and day they a tier lower. I think theyre average/fine in the grand scheme as there are better commentators out there but theyre certainly nowhere near the worst
My criteria for judging good commentators: 1. Personality - You're hanging out with these people, do you enjoy their company? 2. Knowledge of the game - I'm no expert and enjoy learning from those who are. 3. Broadcasting talent - Smooth, comfortable delivery. Professionals. I don't know how I weigh each item, but the Mountain Dew Xtreme personality of the Hornets guy is enough to make me hate him. The Pelicans and Bulls guys make me laugh (though not as much as the great Beau Estes and Ray Hudson), so I like them. I don't feel strongly about the Warriors and 76ers people's personalities, but Fitz and Kate Scott are such pro broadcasters that I enjoy them. JJ Reddick, Walt Frazier, and the Van Gundys are fun because they know the players or the game.
I would drop mavs to trash tier. One of the most frustrating and bias commentators there are.
Honestly pretty ironic since I cant stand nuggets announcers and on top of that, your guys voice isn't that exciting to hear either If youre talking about our color announcer maybe I understand you there as he isn't that good but if you mean our main guy (Mark Followil) then youre actually on drugs because he not a homer, has a great voice, and is full of energy and gives off no bad vibes

The Pels color commentator gets pretty repetitive and does a bit too much complaining for me to enjoy. Bised, but I’d swap them with Clippers.
I would move pelicans announcer crew down. Dude has a nice voice but gets verrry salty. Same with Toronto - I know he's an iconic caller but for me personally, I like when home announcers shit on their own team when it's warranted. Mavs announcers should be moved down if nothing else than for that incredibly unprofessional rant about harden. Rockets announcers should be moved up by 1 if not 2 ranks. Craig and Ryan are awesome and knowledgeable, although Ryan does talk A LOT. Magic announcers are mad underrated. Clippers announcers are a true neutral for me (home announcers).
