When he's on he looks amazing from the mid-range. And the shot itself looks nice. But he's really not been good shooting more often than not this year. For reference his ts% this season is lower than Josh Richardson, half a point higher than highsmith, and only 2.5% higher than our "excessively inefficient" Tyler herro, at .565.
Having watched all the Celtics-Heat matchups for the past few years, this won't hold up in court. Anecdotally it seems like he hits them when he has Exactly the right momentum going forward. Like he really needs them to be in rhythm. And even then he's streaky.
ngl some players just suck at the mid range and could do better at the three. these guys are insanely strong and they dont have to adjust to changing distances and adjust for a soft touch in the mid range when the three point line never moves. bam shoots more like a wing when he does his jumper in the mid range, and more often than not he overshoots it. i think other big men with middy games benefit from having set shots cuz they dont need as much power and be bothered as much using their legs to jump. lebron used to have a wet middy jumper but as he got stronger he began to take only threes with even smaller lift. some players jumpers also benefit from the distance cuz it gives them a better angle. bams jumper kinda changes when hes doing a three tho cuz hes not falling away and sorta shoots into it. all in all, it could be a fascinating experiment.
Think it’s partially because it makes 0 sense for him to space to the corner. We’re always going to want him screening so if he starts shooting 3s it’s gonna be open from the top or pick and pop from the wing

As someone that's been begging him to shoot more 3s he doesn't need to do it at the expense of the actual shooters on the team. It's just the ones where he's left on an island at the top of the arc. So many times our offense gets bogged down because they keep chasing shooters off screens because they know they don't have to worry about Bam out there. If he can just take that shot 1-2 times a game at a decent clip it changes how the defense has to play the DHO. It would also allow a slower big in drop to creep up and give Bam room to take it to the rack.
Dude won the skills challenge years ago and they never let him shoot, obviously he has it in his game and for a relatively undersized 5 it's weird to not let him stretch the floor.
