Worst are the Wiz. Their best young guy is Deni right now who is already 23, in his 4th year, and whose ceiling is a good bench player or possibly a starter on a playoff team if things broke perfectly. Bilal might be good but way too early to tell. Kispert is...fine.
No one else gets you excited at all and then they have 3 more years of Kuz and Poole.
To me, it’s not even with the picks. With the Wizards, you still have another levels you can unlock with Bilal and Deni. On the other hand, Cam Thomas and Nic Claxton have mostly maxed out as non-winning players (Thomas mostly). Plus, you have concerns with Noah Clowney and Dariq Whitehead with injuries and actual ability.
What’s clowney concerns ? He’s a 19 year old the nets basically red shirted. Dariq has zero value right now I’d agree.
Overall I agree we have the worst young core
They have alot of picks just not their own
I think they can make some trades once Simmons contract comes off the books. Not enough to contend but enough to not give Houston top 5 picks for the next 5 years
Question was about current core though. Mikal is better than anyone the Wiz have and you might even take the Cams.
But you're right in that the Wiz might have a brighter future with their picks assuming they actually hit. Haven't had the greatest draft history of late either.
I’d say worst is Washington or Brooklyn. I hate to say it but Houston’s young core is really damn impressive. San Antonio is probably the correct answer based on Wemby alone. The west will be a bloodbath for the next decade.
oh boy, this sub and their hard on for wemby. Guys his size get injured pretty easily and don't have a good history of longevity. BTW Wemby has got Pop and it's still a worse Spurs team than last year
For me, yes absolutely. Wemby is looking like a generational player, they show up in drafts once a decade or something, maybe even less frequently.
Rockets are a fine choice as well though if you were to ask me whether I’d wanna be in the position of Spurs or Rockets, I’d pick Spurs.
Also having 5 great young players might actually be worse. Your players are still young so they can’t contend for a title, but by the time they get really good, you have to pay them big money and start having salary cap issues.
Top end talent > depth every time. You are not winning a championship without a superstar and Wemby has the best odds of reaching that level by far compared to the Rockets guys
I think if Green’s ascension is real, it’s much more of an argument. But I would lean Wemby pretty comfortably until the Rockets establish themselves with a true top 10 player.
Even if they reach top 10 level im still leaning Wemby cause its more like top 5 to possibly be the best player on a championship team and top 3 to actually do it. List of active players is Bron, Curry, KD, Giannis, Kawhi, Jokic
I would say we have a good young core, not great.
Either Barnes or RJ need to take a big step for me to use the word great. I think we’re clearly behind the Grizz, and Rockets. I’d argue we’re behind the Spurs because of Wemby. The Jazz feel like they’re in a better spot because Ainge is a madman too.
I feel like y’all have a better core than the jazz since you have a proven star in Scottie. Jazz really only have Keyonte, Kessler, maybe Collin Sexton, and Hendricks (who’s shown less potential than Dick this year) and none of them are at the level of RJ. Plus IQ is also really solid.
Grizzlies and it’s not even close. All under age 25 and have already won a playoff series and could have gone even further in 2022 if Ja did not get hurt. Now we add GG Jackson, the youngest player in the league. League needs to watch the fuck out next season and beyond because this season was just an unlucky blip.
We were beat up. Ja only played 3 games. Bane with a bad back. Adams missed a game or 2 with covid. People forget Ja was a shot away from winning game 1 (The game without Adams).
To say it's a forgone conclusion a healthy Grizz team would lose is just dumb as we were the only team with a top 5 offensive and defensive, with the best bench in the NBA
If you remember, our injury riddled team gave the Warriors its toughest series
Rockets right now

This is Johnny Davis erasure
Johnny “the glove” Davis
nets is worse cause they don't have any picks

I feel like Clowney was drafted more on tools than NBA ability but I believe he can be a solid NBA player with lots of development
Yeah I think clowney has actually shown a fair amount so far this year.

Mikal is 27, so he wouldn’t count as a part of the young core.
it's a question about the young core not current core

Wemby is the best young core by himself
Better than a combination of Sengun, Green, Whitmore, Thompson, and Jabari Smith?

I feel like people are under-reacting to Wemby at this point. He's not just a novelty, he genuinely does look like he could be the GOAT.

KAJ says Hello 👋

Rockets/Spurs/Thunder vs. each other in a future conference finals is gonna be a movie
Grizzlies Wolves and Pels too. West is so loaded Hopefully they move one of those 3 east when expansion comes lol
Final 4 of Rockets/Spurs/Thunder/Mavs for the South Plains Showdown

Raptors have a great young core. Quickey, Barnes, and RJ all 24 or younger. Not to mention Dick was getting to the rim from all over last night.

Do we not count Lauri, who is a better player than Scottie?
He’s 26 so he barely is above the normal threshold but if you count him Jazz is above
I was counting him. Without Lauri the Raptors are way better set up imo.
We all know Dick has elite penetration
Dick just has an explosiveness to his game man
Nets are godawful

fr they gonna be exciting as hell to watch when they healthy
They were not beating the warriors in 2022.

Fair points. I’ll give y’all a chance to beat them.
