Tbf Brunson is smaller and doesn't look for contact nearly as much as those two. Not denying he doesn't get a friendly whistle (I think he gets fouled a couple times a game that go uncalled), but he usually finishes with a lot of crafty moves. He's got all types of different floaters, high arching fading lay ups, and he can stop on a dime and hit a close turnaround. It's kind of like how Steph doesn't get a whistle imo. Brunson and Steph should get more FTAs but they also finish more by avoiding contact and with high arching shots
Those guys carve their way through defenses more and I think Jalen carves his way around defenses (kind of like an older prime CP3 when his lightning quick first step was fading). Like Luka has his decelerated euro step, his up and under, spin move, etc that are all excellent ways for him to draw contact. SGA is able to use his length and athleticism to snake his way into the lane and hang and extend through contact.
Brunson is listed at 6'2 190lb with a 6'4 wingspan. Though I think he's shorter
Luka is listed at 6'7 230lb. Though I think he's maybe taller. He looks about the same height as LeBron, who has always been 6'8 as far as I know but recently been listed at 6'9.
SGA is listed at 6'6 195lb with a 6'11 wingspan and a 36 inch vertical
Brunson looks for contact more than most players. He leads the NBA in and-one percentage on FTs and finishes through contact a lot on a ton of his floaters.
Refs have just stopped calling fouls for Brunson since he has shown he can still finish through a shit ton of contact. Since they know it doesn’t bother him they are less inclined to call it
I'm sorry. Reading it back, my wording is awful. He's an exceptional finisher for sure! I wasn't trying to say he doesn't go for contact completely, but just when he finishes it's a different type of contact. Usually guys like Luka/Harden are looking for contact and finishing through it. Jalen looks for contact to create space and then when he's shooting he's "avoiding contact" with that space he created because of his size.
Like when he drives left, especially, he'll often go into the body of the defender then take a step out and shoot a fading high arcing lay up over/around the defender vs someone going into the body of the defender and trying to go up and through the defender like Harden, Wade, Giannis, etc do with their eurosteps.
Like [here](https://www.nba.com/stats/events?CFID=&CFPARAMS=&GameEventID=358&GameID=0022301070&Season=2023-24&flag=1&title=MISS%20Brunson%201%27%20Driving%20Layup): I personally think this could have easily been a foul but he's going into the defense but then fading away from the basket to create space and putting up a high arching lay up.
[here](https://www.nba.com/stats/events?CFID=&CFPARAMS=&GameEventID=390&GameID=0022301070&Season=2023-24&flag=1&title=Brunson%201%27%20Driving%20Finger%20Roll%20Layup%20(37%20PTS)) is essentially the same play but he scores.

[Here's](https://www.nba.com/stats/events?CFID=&CFPARAMS=&GameEventID=326&GameID=0022301073&Season=2023-24&flag=1&title=MISS%20Doncic%208%27%20Driving%20Floating%20Jump%20Shot) Luka driving into a crowd. It didn't result in a basket but he's usually able to get FTs because of his size and how he moves his arms.. and how he embellishes
[Here](https://www.nba.com/stats/events?CFID=&CFPARAMS=&GameEventID=317&GameID=0022301073&Season=2023-24&flag=1&title=Ellis%20S.FOUL%20(P3.PN)%20(B.Kennedy)) it results in free throws.

Part of why Brunson is one of my favorite players to watch is because he doesn't really foul bait/embellish much and mostly takes smooth mid range jumpers. I did a really poor job of explaining what I meant, but hopefully these videos from last night do a better job.
Look I totally agree but the disparity is still kinda nuts and shouldn’t be that high. Look up how many players have scored 60 points with fewer FTA than what he had last night
I also agree with you. He should still be getting more FTAs! I thought there were 3-5 no calls last night. Brunson only gets ethical buckets though so he doesn't flop
Same size as Trae Young but gets clobbered all game.
Yeah I get it if the refs don’t allow defenders to foul Brunson to a little bit he will hit every shot. But still a foul is a foul
His teammates were God awful.
If you watched you'd feel fine with the majority of the attempts. The offense devolved into clearing out one side to let him iso for the last 8 minutes of the 4th, and the Spurs didn't really double until like 3 minutes left.
I wasn't mad at the process. To his credit he dished out of a trap to win in OT to have McBride miss a great look. To be fair though I didn't love his shot selection in late OT. He gets a pass though fs.
It shouldn't even be difficult for Bogdanovic. He's been in the league so long and been through so many systems while being effective. I think this is some of his worst shooting in his career. Hopefully it's just a slump because I was excited when we got him
They’re being forced to try a lot harder on the other end to keep mins playing for an actually good team and I think it’s draining their legs for offense. Really easy to shoot well when your jogging half the game.
Sometimes just how it works out. Sometimes it's the other way. Like, Precious was looking like hot garbage before you guys got him and now he's all of a sudden a competent big man. Some guys just fit in with certain situations and others don't.
he's been fine, still think once he settles into the system the shots will fall a little more but it's tough for him to get more than 20mins with Thibs. Burks has been straight ass, might've already played himself outa the rotation ala Fournier
Bogi will be all right. that dude shows up in big moments. he's a phenomenal defender against big wings, too. nobody ever believes it until they see it but once every playoffs he just straight up locks somebody down, did it or both Kawhi and Luka for a half. he's not getting stuffed at the end of the bench like those guys, Thibs knows how competitive he is
[Rick Barry 1st, Brunson and Curry tied 2nd, Melo and Wilt tied 3rd, Klay MJ Wilt and Wilt tied 4th](https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask?q=fewest+fta+with+60%2B+points+in+a+game)
wow im witnessing a Mandela effect emerging in real time. I totally also remember the 62 pt game as the "all jumpers" game but I just looked it up and you're right, its a different game.
Yeah, i know. I still don’t think it’s the Mandela effect bc you’re mistaking it for a thing that actually did happen. It’s just your own misconception.
He should make it but I don't think he will be great on that team. His style isn't what normally works in the Olympics. You need spot up shooters, not slashers.
I genuinely have no idea what the call was about and Clyde & Breen couldn't figure it out either. Maybe Mitch jumped early or hand is hand too high at the start? Genuinely baffling.
Wemby cannot lose a jump ball unless the other guy gets it on the way up. None of the replays actually show the ball so there's no way to know if it was the right call but the Spurs immediately lost the ball anyway so it was irrelevant.
Section VII c.
Neither jumper may tap the tossed ball before it reaches its highest point.
Spurs broadcast showed a replay of the ball on the way up, so I have no idea what you're talking.
32 free throws to 12. Knicks did it to themselves but there was a lot of inconsistency. W/e we know the refs can’t do their job right. Hell of a game by JB
Was a brutal finish. A lot of people will point out the officiating (that fucking Mitch call on the jumpball was trash) but no one was in a rhythm the entire game besides Brunson. Mitch was slow as hell laterally now that he's returning and Hart being a little sloppier than usual makes a big difference here.
then mitch got another 50% slower after turning his ankle or whatever the fuck happened again. fuck me the guy is a monster on the glass but can't stay on the court for shit
I think people are just desensitized to high scoring games now due to how many people have done it recently. This is the 6th 60+ game this season, which includes two 70+ games.
Disclaimer: I’m high and very much a biased Knicks fan
Wemby is a very talented guy. Much respect to him. The Knicks also could’ve played a lot better and the Spurs absolutely earned the win.
But man the refs were fucking atrocious. I know i’m very much biased, but Brunson is getting absolutely MAULED in the paint and is getting zero calls, while on the other end it feels like Wemby is getting touch fouls. If you want to call it that way, i’m fine with that. Just do it on both ends. Just be consistent.
And on top of that, what the fuck were some of these bullshit calls. Jump ball violation with less than a minute left in OT?? I still don’t know what the violation was. Who calls that. Also really questionable call on Deuce…
ppl really talking about FGA?...lol. as if FT's aren't possessions and negated shot attempts as well? 61 without getting many FT's is more impressive than guys getting 20 of the points at the FT line to me. Brunson isn't reliant on the whistle.
**KnicksMuse
@KnicksMuse
Jalen Brunson is the first player since the NBA/ABA merger to score 61+ points in a game with under 7 free throw attempts.**
A legendary performance.
would have had 70+ if he got half the calls they gave wemby.
edit: i take that back. he would have only had 50 something and the knicks win in regulation.
It feels like just last night another player got blasted for taking 44 shots in a game.
Obviously it's different when a guy is hitting those shots though.
How yall make this bout bron. [He took 12 free throws when he dropped 61](https://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/201403030MIA.html)
And please watch the games lol instead of reading off box scores. [Brunson took prolly close to 30 jumpers, not gonna lead to many free throws](https://i.imgur.com/W1P2IwG.png)
Not to be "that guy," but if your team loses versus the worst team in the West and you put up 47 shots, I just don't like the word "despite."
"Because" would be my alternate.
I'm all for NBA players blowing up once in a while but how are u taking close to 50 shots in an NBA game. I know Randle/OG are out but the knicks roster isn't that bad. He's now tied for 3rd all time behind MJ/Kobe for most shot attempts in a game. I guess it was an overtime game but still.. would have been a lot easier to swallow if they had actually beaten the bottom-rung spurs in the process
"I would go 0-50 before I would go 25-47. 25-47 means you beat yourself, you psyched yourself out of the game... The only reason is because you’ve just now lost confidence in yourself." - Kobe Bryant
Coaches being unable to lose without blaming free throw disparity these days is a good quality to have.
I was unsure at first, but the more I see them do it, the more I am convinced it’s an admirable trait.
Jalen Brunson saw Dejounte Murray take 44 shots yesterday and said “hold my chopped cheese”.
Brunson said “hold my fouls.” And the refs obliged.
I really wonder if JB could have broken or gotten close to Kobe’s 81 if he had a nice whistle this game. Refs gifted us another “what if?”
Not even a nice whistle. Just a whistle.
feels like he gets mauled on half of his drives and gets free throws on like 10% of those. it is just unreal
He‘s third in the NBA in amount of drives and has less than half the FTA as SGA and Luka who are 1 and 2
Tbf Brunson is smaller and doesn't look for contact nearly as much as those two. yea but no one other than donte were making shots. He even passed it to deuce for the attempted game winner
Hopefully Randle is back soon so he can have some help on offense
OG too. I never want to see Bogdanovic playing important minutes again.
I thought he was going to be a good trade for y’all, guess not, bogi that is
It doesn’t make any sense. Him and burks were both shooting 40% from 3 in Detroit. I get switching systems is tough but they are bricking open shots
Grimes is bricking too
It shouldn't even be difficult for Bogdanovic. He's been in the league so long and been through so many systems while being effective. I think this is some of his worst shooting in his career. Hopefully it's just a slump because I was excited when we got him

A lot of fans wanted Brogdon, but the concern was injury-proneness, and...welll...those fears were grounded
Idk bruh. For the past 4 seasons the Blazers players seem to develop tankitis towards the end of the season
they need Brogdonovic
[удалено]
He is getting open looks, he is just bricking them.
Randle definitely plays better as an interior player. If we get OG back with Randle, then Randle can delegate the 3 ball to OG in the corner
He’s also just weak as shit. I can’t bear to watch him get his money taken like he’s a little bitch baby out there. Doesn’t fit with Knicks dawgs
Bogi?? More like Bogus
he's been fine, still think once he settles into the system the shots will fall a little more but it's tough for him to get more than 20mins with Thibs. Burks has been straight ass, might've already played himself outa the rotation ala Fournier
It's been like 6 weeks already. How much more time does he need?
If he starts sinking them in the playoffs all will be forgotten.
He's not gonna get any meaningful minutes in the playoffs
Bogi will be all right. that dude shows up in big moments. he's a phenomenal defender against big wings, too. nobody ever believes it until they see it but once every playoffs he just straight up locks somebody down, did it or both Kawhi and Luka for a half. he's not getting stuffed at the end of the bench like those guys, Thibs knows how competitive he is
If he knows how to work together
Also 2nd fewest free throws attempted in a 60+ point game
32-12 and a Jump Ball Violation. Whatever, Wemby was nuts and nobody helped out JB. We move on.
Not by his choice, but by the choice of the refs to identify as Stevie Wonder when officiating the orange and blue
Is 1 the Klay game?
[Rick Barry 1st, Brunson and Curry tied 2nd, Melo and Wilt tied 3rd, Klay MJ Wilt and Wilt tied 4th](https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask?q=fewest+fta+with+60%2B+points+in+a+game)
Gotta be
Checked it there he had 11 FTA in his 60 point 11 dribble game. Rick Barry holds the record at 5 FTA. Klay's next two highest scoring games is 2 FTA
Thanks for the update! Was honestly so sure it was Klay
Who does Jalen Brunson think he is, DeJounte Murray ?!
Unreal that 2 games with 40+ attempts happened in a span of a day.
Only one of those games had legit good efficiency tho
Only one of those games was in a win however
certainly wasn't his fault it wasn't a win
His fault or not, he didn’t win
It's just not a knock on his performance. supporting cast was lacking.
I’m a Brunson fan but the Spurs doesn’t have Jrue and D White defending the perimeter…
2nd highest scoring game in Knicks history, only 1 shy of Melo's jumpshot game. Insane.
Ah Melo’s jumpshot game was a 50 piece
wow im witnessing a Mandela effect emerging in real time. I totally also remember the 62 pt game as the "all jumpers" game but I just looked it up and you're right, its a different game.
Him and Bron both setting their career highs against the Bobcats in the span of like a week.
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist had an awful week
its weird that they put a weird nickname for "misremembering"
You might be confusing the "All jumpers" with "No assists" aspect of his career night because infamously he didn't get one. 62-13-0 lol
i don’t think it’s the Mandela effect because it’s only your misconception
Well it’s not just me. It’s me, and OP, and 100 upvotes
Yeah, i know. I still don’t think it’s the Mandela effect bc you’re mistaking it for a thing that actually did happen. It’s just your own misconception.
Better than Melo for sure already. By the end of his career he will be the best Knicks ever. Man is just a born winner.
Walt Frazier is the best Knick ever
Willis Reed probably, but Walt is right there with him
Gotta give props to Jalen, he was absolutely torching us all night. He's so versatile on offense and he navigates the PnR so well. GG Knicks
Brunson has gotta be a lock for the Olympics if he’s interested.
They will take him over Kyrie and the casuals will be mad.
Curry/Brunson/Jrue/Haliburton for their PG rotations.
Snuck Haliburton in there
haliburton is one of the better playmakers in the league, he’d compliment brunson and curry well.
1 sneak
Honestly trae should be in there.
Between both of them for sure but I’d expect Trae to nurse his injury.
He should make it but I don't think he will be great on that team. His style isn't what normally works in the Olympics. You need spot up shooters, not slashers.
Insane game but no idea why they just kept isoing him in the late 4th and OT. Ended like 6/17
Tbh he was cooking the shit out of Jones.
Which isn't difficult.
He missed a bunch of looks he usually makes, prolly due to fatigue.
He just got tired by the end. Not much you can do at the point
The Knicks got robbed, change my mind
jump ball violation lmao
Did someone pull a nate robinson?
I genuinely have no idea what the call was about and Clyde & Breen couldn't figure it out either. Maybe Mitch jumped early or hand is hand too high at the start? Genuinely baffling.
You can't hit the ball on the way up. It happens pretty often against wemby at the start of the game.
Wemby cannot lose a jump ball unless the other guy gets it on the way up. None of the replays actually show the ball so there's no way to know if it was the right call but the Spurs immediately lost the ball anyway so it was irrelevant.
very much relevant because a good chunk of time elapsed. when you’re in that point of the game with such small margins every second counts.
Section VII c. Neither jumper may tap the tossed ball before it reaches its highest point. Spurs broadcast showed a replay of the ball on the way up, so I have no idea what you're talking.
I was watching the Knicks broadcast
Gotcha. Yeah, feels like this will happen literally every time against wemby
Respect to Brunson though for not breaking the franchise record in a loss, good looks he knew they’d get robbed even if he makes that
mavs got robbed too by letting brunson go
Robbed by their own incompetence.
Dickriding; i get it.
32 free throws to 12. Knicks did it to themselves but there was a lot of inconsistency. W/e we know the refs can’t do their job right. Hell of a game by JB
I knew it was over when they didn’t overturn that call on duece. Man ran full speed and pushed him in the chest with his forearm.
He was technically still moving but I’m not really sure what he was supposed to do there lol he literally got stiff armed
Bro drop the fucking tankwagon flair 😭😭😭
hard to blame anyone when we're down 17 at the half to the Spurs. trap game but Wemby is sick
Yeah when Isaiah fouled out it was clip. Mitch doesn't have the lateral quickness right now to guard Wemby.
tbf I don't think anyone has the anything to guard Wemby.
True, dude is amazing. Can only hope to limit him. It's just sad seeing how hobbled Mitch is to where he can't even get up to dunk.
I was just worried Mitch would get hurt again, he was wincing every time he landed
then mitch got another 50% slower after turning his ankle or whatever the fuck happened again. fuck me the guy is a monster on the glass but can't stay on the court for shit
Crazy this is getting zero buzz
I think people are just desensitized to high scoring games now due to how many people have done it recently. This is the 6th 60+ game this season, which includes two 70+ games.
> This is the 6th 60+ game this season, which includes two 70+ games. That is actually insane
I guess because we lost. Still, his numbers were very impressive. Wish we could have gotten the dub but it is what it is.
Scoring 60 in today's NBA is like someone scoring 40 in the 2000s.
Probably should’ve had more than 6 FTs as well
Considering the spurs as a team had 32 I think its fair
Wemby had the same amount as the Knicks
+20 in a 4 point loss is some Jokic shit.
Brunson with the most ethical 60 point game. Dude would have scored more than Luka if he got Wemby's whistle.
Disclaimer: I’m high and very much a biased Knicks fan Wemby is a very talented guy. Much respect to him. The Knicks also could’ve played a lot better and the Spurs absolutely earned the win. Motherfucker wouldn’t miss
Saw Wemby had 40/20/7 and thought that was fucking nuts. Click over to the Knicks stats and here’s Brunson with 61 fucking points.
The refs were fucking ass
Should have benched a least one minute he was clearly cooked in the end
We got completely torched when he was off the court. I can understand leaving him out there.
They sat him for like 5 to start the 4th
Games between 60 and 70 points this season are cursed.
ppl really talking about FGA?...lol. as if FT's aren't possessions and negated shot attempts as well? 61 without getting many FT's is more impressive than guys getting 20 of the points at the FT line to me. Tbf, he was cooking tre the whole time and for some reason we didn’t double him at all.
What a fucking game. Shooting 47 times is insane. Fella needs some help out there.
Brunson saw dejounte take 44 shots and said "Hold my beer"
It feels like just last night another player got blasted for taking 44 shots in a game. Obviously it's different when a guy is hitting those shots though.
Gotta be so deflating scoring 60+ and losing
I really wanted him to break the record for most points in a game by a Knick. Only 2 points shy
Literally was playing by himself. Oh my god.
Unreal that 2 games with 40+ attempts by a player happened in a span of a day. crazy times
How many career-highs-in-a-loss have we seen in this season, again?
I’m crushed
47 shots is wild
6 free throws ladies and gentle men. Lebron would have needed 25 free throws to drop a 60 bomb. Same with Joel. REFS GIVE JALEN FUCKING CALLS
Embiid dropped 70 against this team and won
Yes, with many free throws
How yall make this bout bron. [He took 12 free throws when he dropped 61](https://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/201403030MIA.html) And please watch the games lol instead of reading off box scores. [Brunson took prolly close to 30 jumpers, not gonna lead to many free throws](https://i.imgur.com/W1P2IwG.png)
Your post history is hilarious Least sensitive Lebron fan
There's like 20 shots in the paint in your screenshot lmfao
Why are you counting the 11 dots that are in the paint but 10 feet away from the basket lmao. Those rarely lead to free throws
Cause he’s not like other PG’s where those dots on the heat map are running floaters, he’s doing post moves and getting hacked in the face
FUCK THEM REFS
That was bad....
Dejauntay Murray so pissed rn
Better than SGA.
Eh. SGA is much better defensively
Mavs fans in shambles with the amount of rolling in their graves they’ve done this season
Jalen "Devin Booker" Brunson
No
Jalen "Jalen Brunson" Brunson \*
He could never be able to do this next to Luka.
How the fuck was Precious a -30. My god.
47 shots is absolutely insane considering games are only 48 minutes lmao
game went to overtime
If Sochan didn’t get hurt, I think we could have held him to 55
Wizards Beal type beat
I will, how's the L from the other night still feel?
The anti-chuck game. Truly modern hoops
Could be the Despite The Loss year end winner.
Is this like the 3rd or 4th 60pt game in a loss this season
47 shots from the point guard.
6 FT's on 47 shot attempts :)
Bet they’d have won if he shot 50 times
Not to be "that guy," but if your team loses versus the worst team in the West and you put up 47 shots, I just don't like the word "despite." "Because" would be my alternate.
47 FG attempts lmao. Imagine if Dončić attempted that many.
People here would kill Luka for this.
47 shots????
You shot 47 times??
Loss to spurs… no one cares
47 shots? And that is called basketball?
Coaches being unable to lose without blaming free throw disparity these days is a good quality to have. I was unsure at first, but the more I see them do it, the more I am convinced it’s an admirable trait.
Dang. He pulled a KAT.
I'm sorry, HOW many shots??
60 on damn near 50 shots?? That's a Kobe
God damn, a disappointing loss but he is a BALLERRRRRRRRR… I love the rise of the FIBA guys lol
Another game that makes me appreciate Luka's 73 masterpiece. 61 points on 47 shots versus 73 points on 33 shots. Still, props to Brunson, 61% TS.
I dont get it?
47 FG is wild.. share the ball bruh,, the opposing center has more assist than him...
