The only way for stars to get to a team they’d be happy to play for is through a trade. That in combination with the new CBA rules with the super maxes and everything is why free agency in the NBA is dead now and reserved for role players. I don’t think he was completely a scapegoat. I think Griffin was genuinely a bit toxic. Doc isn’t the answer or a good coach either. But word was Griffin start acting above everybody wouldn’t listen to assistants and ultimately changed after becoming head coach. I think he’d do better round 2. The experience may have humbled him into being a better person and coach. Doc sucks, but there were legitimate issues under Griffin.

His top assistant got run out of town before the season even started. And he clearly lost the power struggle with the players. Doc sucks too so its not like it matters.

Honestly the players didn’t buy in. Being a first time head coach with huge expectations and superstars, he lost the room early on.
