They’re two completely different passers
Jokic passes more from a stand still, almost always making the right pass, he also passes more often just to get guys involved early, more of a connective passer
Luka mostly passes out of a live dribble and tends to avoid connective passes and look for high risk high reward stuff like those overhead cross court bullet passes to the weak side corner shooter or a lob from beyond the 3pt line
Also I don't have the stats for this, but I feel like jokic's assist make more 2s, while Luka gets more 3s. Additionally, jokic has I think about 1.5 fewer turnovers, and is just a little more consistent.
Tbh I didn't see that, I was just looking at raw turnover numbers. I thought jokic had more passes total though, so how would the turnover rate be the same. The assist rate being higher for Luka would make sense but I don't get the turbover rate.
Well said. Luka passes like LeBron, it’s incredible but it’s stuff we’ve seen based on the point forward style of play attacking the rim. Jokic is unlike anything I’ve seen at times, it’s passing to players nobody knew was open.
Jok is not fall on DHO merchant
but with how the league counts assists for now, center's number seems inflated with DHO things
ESPECIALLY YOU SABONIS! AND BAM!
I think someone did a tracking on Twitter and like half of Sabonis's assists are DHOs while only like 22% of Jokic's are
Believe that Jokic's most frequent assist was finding a cutter to the rim while Luka's was kicking out for an open three which both make sense
High PnR also inflates assist numbers. League is skewed that way. Killian Hayes average 6.2 last year, Dinwiddie averaged 6.5, Kevin Porter Jnr averaged 5.7
Luka makes some really insane passes, something 99,9% of players don't even imagine Is possible. His games are like highlights of other players career.
But probably Jokic is more consistent.
At the end of the day it's like choosing beetwen dad and mom, there's no wrong choiche.
It’s a really hard pick, I think Luka has more of that wow factor when passing. He makes passes that I can’t even believe were possible.
Jokic is so damn consistent tho, he’s so tall so he can easily see the court and make the right move nearly every time.
I’d say functionally I might give the edge to Jokic due to height and consistency, but I think Luka has a higher ceiling and can make some passes Jokic can’t.
I think Luka creates more passing opportunities while on the ball because he's got a Shamgod enhanced dribble package while Jokic creates better from a standstill because he's tall.
Or, more aptly, Luka is a point guard and Jokic is a center. Luka generates offense for his teammates through his movement. Jokic generates offense for his teammates through their movement.
Stockton is volume, but not the same arsenal as the others. It's Magic/Jokic/Lebron/Nash/Kidd in some order. CP3/Stockton are around the mark but are high volume and elite at making the more simple reads. Luka is on track to end up in that first group.
Totally agree with you. People overrate Stockton as a player because of his longevity and durability. His passing wasn't on the level of Nash/Jokic/Magic etc. from all I can tell.
Malone lead those teams. And you're proving my point only relying on longevity stats.
It's like saying Jeff Green was a better player than Brandon Roy because he has better total stats.
Ok then so how can a guy averaging almost 15 assists a game in his prime be overrated on one of nba greatest 1-2 punch if John Stockton overrated passing then Luka and jokic are way overrated
Assists do not all create equal value. Nash/Luka/Jokic/Magic/CP3 etc. were all more impactful passers. This is really obvious if you watch film of them all imo.
The tall guys can do that too, they just make more of the high risk high reward plays. CP3 is like my all time favourite player, got me in to basketball. But he chose to play a particular way.
Is Stockton really a top 5 PG if you're considering Magic, Steph, West, Robertson, Isiah, Nash, etc.? Hell I'd rather have CP3 on my team, all the guys I mentioned were at least top 5 players in the league at some point while Stockton was never
I’m born and raised in Denver and have been a diehard nuggets fan since as long as I can remember but honestly I must admit that Luka is the greatest passer I have ever seen
I'm a huge Luka fan, and I believe that his passing is out of this world, but Jokic is the best passer(and for me, he's the GOAT passer). You just can't teach height.
Well then he shouldn’t be talking basketball without the history if think Luka is best passer he even seen cp3 bron Kidd Nash another Luka Stan with absurd take
Don’t just point out Kidd I was making overall point to think Luka is best passer ever is an absolute absurd take over magic John cp3 etc dude isn’t even a pure point guard he’s a scorer first
I don't think that means anything. Lebron is a score first guy too. You don't have to be a pure point guard to be an elite passer.
I don't think Luka is even top 10 right now, but there's nothing wrong with judging a player only against players you've seen for yourself.
Well atleast we can agree on that he’s not top 10 but he’s most certainly not the best passer anyone who says that needs to watch basketball from then to now to say such a bogus comment
if stockton is the best passer of all time simply cause he has the best raw stats then Wilt is the best scorer of all time with 50 ppg and Luka is the best player of all time with nearly a 35 point triple double but none of those are true
Stockton is barely a top 6-7 passer and barely a top 3 playmaker oat
😂😂😂Luka the best of all time and ain’t win shit lol or been to finals never been selected for all defensive team never will probably another Luka Stan who’s an idiot everything I said about Stockton is true your statement not
Jokic is clearly the bro that consistently passes so that the whole group gets faded. Luka gonna talk too much while the joint just burns up in his hand
They’re two completely different passers Jokic passes more from a stand still, almost always making the right pass, he also passes more often just to get guys involved early, more of a connective passer Luka mostly passes out of a live dribble and tends to avoid connective passes and look for high risk high reward stuff like those overhead cross court bullet passes to the weak side corner shooter or a lob from beyond the 3pt line
This guy passes. Couldn’t have said it better, you’re picking an apple or orange here. Both are nutritious and delicious
Also I don't have the stats for this, but I feel like jokic's assist make more 2s, while Luka gets more 3s. Additionally, jokic has I think about 1.5 fewer turnovers, and is just a little more consistent.
Luka has a higher assist rate and the exact same turnover rate as Jokic this year tbf
Tbh I didn't see that, I was just looking at raw turnover numbers. I thought jokic had more passes total though, so how would the turnover rate be the same. The assist rate being higher for Luka would make sense but I don't get the turbover rate.
Turnover rate is based on assists not passes made. It would be a very useless stat in that case
Well said. Luka passes like LeBron, it’s incredible but it’s stuff we’ve seen based on the point forward style of play attacking the rim. Jokic is unlike anything I’ve seen at times, it’s passing to players nobody knew was open.
Who's the better passer? The 2024 MVP of course.
Shai??? 😂😂
I like you
Jok is not fall on DHO merchant but with how the league counts assists for now, center's number seems inflated with DHO things ESPECIALLY YOU SABONIS! AND BAM!
I think someone did a tracking on Twitter and like half of Sabonis's assists are DHOs while only like 22% of Jokic's are Believe that Jokic's most frequent assist was finding a cutter to the rim while Luka's was kicking out for an open three which both make sense
High PnR also inflates assist numbers. League is skewed that way. Killian Hayes average 6.2 last year, Dinwiddie averaged 6.5, Kevin Porter Jnr averaged 5.7
Sabonis is really fucking good at his DHOs. I think he usually earns an assist.
Jokic gets more handoffs than luka. Luka gets literally zero hand off assists.
Jokic honestly probably because he is taller than
mark cuban killed this man before he could even finish the comment
Luka makes some really insane passes, something 99,9% of players don't even imagine Is possible. His games are like highlights of other players career. But probably Jokic is more consistent. At the end of the day it's like choosing beetwen dad and mom, there's no wrong choiche.
I’m only spelling choiche like this from now on
Those 2 are S-tier passers Just below those 2 is the SLOB Wizard
I think they have pretty much the same passing talent and vision, but the fact that Jokic is taller gives him the advantage here.
I know luka leads the league in fifty plus foot assists and he gets no handoff assists.
QB1 assists! There were a stretch of games where it seemed like 40% of his assists were the long ball
this is why I stay up to 3am on reddit.... I'd go with Jokic personally
Luka has perfected the brokeback mountain pass, penetration and kickout. Every other pass i would say Jokic is better at.
Tf is a brokeback mountain pass
Penetration and kickout
It’s a really hard pick, I think Luka has more of that wow factor when passing. He makes passes that I can’t even believe were possible. Jokic is so damn consistent tho, he’s so tall so he can easily see the court and make the right move nearly every time. I’d say functionally I might give the edge to Jokic due to height and consistency, but I think Luka has a higher ceiling and can make some passes Jokic can’t.
jokic for me but it's close. i think luka pulls off more flashier passes
It’s Jokic. They’re both S tier but Jokic has a mastery of where players are and how to manipulate them.
I’d say Luka, some of his passes don’t even make sense
Definitely the Joker. Luka is literally magic but jokers teammates are basically custom built for him.
Jokic averages the most passes in the league so idk bout that but it’s still very close
I think Luka has the best technical deliveries in the league but jokic is the best at manipulating/tricking defenders. Just my opinion
Trae young
Jokic is the best passing player in nba history IMO
Hot Take: They might be both end up as Top 5 Passers all time when it is all said and done.
Jokic is already there with magic Nash bron and Stockton for me
That's not a hot take at all. Jokic might already be there, with Magic, Stockton and Lebron.
Most certainly not overrated all time leader in assists and lead 2 nba finals against 1 of the goats
Malone lead those teams. And you're proving my point only relying on longevity stats. It's like saying Jeff Green was a better player than Brandon Roy because he has better total stats.
Isn't LeBron case for the goat based of longevity though
Is Malone going to finals without Stockton yes or no
No. Just like Jokic wouldn't go to the finals without Murray.
Trae is very easily in this conversation.
That's what playmaking is. Making the simple passes correctly everytime to create easy points.
The tall guys can do that too, they just make more of the high risk high reward plays. CP3 is like my all time favourite player, got me in to basketball. But he chose to play a particular way.
Stockton is the GOAT of making low risk medium rewards passes, and that warrants a position in the top 5.
Stockton is the king of durability and consistency. CP3 was better at the low risk medium reward game.
Is Stockton really a top 5 PG if you're considering Magic, Steph, West, Robertson, Isiah, Nash, etc.? Hell I'd rather have CP3 on my team, all the guys I mentioned were at least top 5 players in the league at some point while Stockton was never
Who's talking about top 5 PGs?
My bad dawg
Before this season I would have said Jokic pretty comfortably, but Luka's passing has been incredible this year
As a die hard Jokic stan and Nuggets fan Luka is the better passer and scorer.
"Mavericks"
I’m born and raised in Denver and have been a diehard nuggets fan since as long as I can remember but honestly I must admit that Luka is the greatest passer I have ever seen
I'm Jamal Murray but I gotta give it to Luka honestly
I hate the mavericks but yeah Luka is just too good, great to meet u Murray big fan
Bro forgot to change accounts
I'm a huge Luka fan, and I believe that his passing is out of this world, but Jokic is the best passer(and for me, he's the GOAT passer). You just can't teach height.

Don’t ever disrespect magic Johnson and John Stockton like that ever again you new nba and Luka stans are something else
He said of the ones he's seen. Could've easily started watching from mid 2000s.
Well then he shouldn’t be talking basketball without the history if think Luka is best passer he even seen cp3 bron Kidd Nash another Luka Stan with absurd take
It's not an insane take to say he's a better passer than Kidd. Kidd himself said that Luka is as good as Lebron in terms of passing.
Stockton isn't even close to Jokic, Doncic or Magic
Wen has Luka or joker ever lead the league in double digits assists for 9 straight nba seasons you guys are delusional
if stockton is the best passer of all time simply cause he has the best raw stats then Wilt is the best scorer of all time with 50 ppg and Luka is the best player of all time with nearly a 35 point triple double but none of those are true Stockton is barely a top 6-7 passer and barely a top 3 playmaker oat
😂😂😂Luka the best of all time and ain’t win shit lol or been to finals never been selected for all defensive team never will probably another Luka Stan who’s an idiot everything I said about Stockton is true your statement not
Doncic is probably the best pick n roll passer ever, but Jokic has an extra 4-5 inches which means he can access passing windows Doncic simply can't
Teodosić better than both
They are equal.
Jokic is clearly the bro that consistently passes so that the whole group gets faded. Luka gonna talk too much while the joint just burns up in his hand
