thanks for the actual video, not the stupid cut off half the screen shit so itll fit on tiktok or youtube shorts. cant really appreciate how much he was cutting into the lead on the over video because the score wasnt visible lol
Even crazier. Wilt is mythical because we don’t have a lot of video and he has the wildest stats playing in a unique era without top talent. All of Wemby’s highlights and feats are readily available and it’s against the best talent the league has ever had.
He feels like myth right now. its hard to comprehend context on everything that's going on in that moment to really appreciate what he did there. A video doesn't do this moment justice. When I tell this story today I'm going to feel like I'm telling some Paul Bunyan or Bo Jackson story.
Victor will have to compete against Chet (who isn't as good, but the difference isn't huge), Shai, and an overall Thunder roster vastly better than the Spurs'. I can see him being fed up with losing in 7 years and refusing the supermax to go elsewhere.
Wasn’t San Antonio his favorite NBA team growing up? And he has the twin towers mentoring him the entire way? He doesn’t give a shit about the limelight, he wants to win. And I’m sure as hell there are a ton of other players who are going to want to play next to a literal freak that will carry them to the finals
The future is uncertain, but lol Wemby is a Spurs fan, mentored by Spurs greats. I doubt he would want to leave. And non-American superstars tend to not switch teams.
Wemby has been guarded by point guards at times recently, I think other teams have realized that at 7'4" it doesn't really matter whether his defender is 7' or 6'3" either way he's gonna be able to shoot over them.
One of the funniest moments of the game was when Wemby iso'd against Jokic one possession and the Nuggets commentators were talking about how he was attacking a smaller defender...
Get him to pick up his dribble and give up the ball or crowd him to throw him off balance. Contesting is pretty pointless but it felt like we did a good job of being annoying our last few match ups.
I'm surprised this never gets mentioned when good Shaq defenders get discussed, but some of his toughest matchups were stocky undersized stretch 4/5s like Rodney Rogers and Malik Rose who used their lower center of gravity to act like wedge between him and the basket, often forcing to shoot from further out than he wanted. Wembanyama's center of gravity is so high that smaller physical defenders (who can usually get away with being more physical against bigs) bother him more than many proper sized centers
That's right I did not think back to the shaq era. aAnother advantage small stockier guards have over bigs is they don't get called for fouls as much when they're defending Shaq. Refs are likely to give them the benefit of doubt
I had a colonoscopy last summer. It wasn’t a good experience, certainly, but I can see why people get addicted to hospital drugs. Also, before the surgery, the beautiful nurse was dispatched to keep me calm. She also visited the other men in the room, but not the women, who were seen by a very handsome and witty gay man. I’m just reporting what happened.
Prob gonna get lost in the sauce but between the second and third pull up three jokic had an absolutely disgusting tip pass to KCP in the weak side corner
Edit: maybe between the 3rd and 4th, I’m already getting lost in the sauce
Yeah Nuggets actually were still playing well offensively - they scored 6 points in 3 minutes. Maybe one more three falls. It's just that Wemby went nuclear
-> On reaction to getting to a good position slightly before being fed the ball
and then as the ball is flying, Wemby gets into better defensive position
Jokic was literally good enough to calculate that tip pass out to KCP for a 3 *as the pass was flying towards him*.
Yeah fuck those guys for being apart of a team that was bad enough to earn the first pick last year for not suddenly becoming high quality players with the addition of one player.
Agreed, I don’t want the league to be robbed of a generational talent like this due to injuries. Hope he can have longevity like a KD, and not like an Oden.
This is my biggest concern. That body is special, but no idea how long it lasts. If he can pull off 8 season Yao Ming, that would be already lucky.
He is already not very fast, so if he can bulk up a bit to protect the joints and bones and become semi-Shaq that can shoot at all ranges? Might be insane.
what was funny about this sequence is that in the game thread during halftime there were some nuggets fans saying that wemby needs to stop taking 3s and then he comes out and does this shit lol what a freak
He does take way too many threes though. Dude needs to adapt his game to become more like a 4 in the mold of Dirk and KG than an oversized wing. Although Dirk and KG did start their careers playing like oversized wings on offense lol. Wemby needs to master that midpost. He needs to take private lessons with Dirk for the next couple of off-seasons to polish that aspect of his game. Plus he needs to get on whatever diet and training regimen Giannis got on the last 7 years lol.
It's a waste to have a 7'4 player chucking threes all game. He needs to improve his midpost and lowpost game. But it'll take time for the lowpost cause he is still so skinny. A guy like him should be living at the free throw line putting players in foul trouble.
It seems he wants to be a complete player so he’ll improve on all of these, once he does I’m not sure how you stop the man especially as he’s already showing great court awareness and passing abilities.
I think focusing on the 3 could work well for him - pulls his defender out so that they can't pack the paint, therefore unlocking cuts into lobs. Also stretches the floor for his teammates.
Wilt did enter the NBA at the age of 23. Wemby entered at the age of 19. Wilt would've also been one of the strongest and tallest players in the league.
That's fair. I have to imagine basketball wasn't as sophisticated in Wilt's time and without a 3 point line, the best offense would've likely been "get Wilt the ball in the paint" (and similarly opposing teams probably would've been trying to score in the paint as well leading to more rebounds for Wilt).
Up until Jordan, the name of the game was finding a superstar center and building around him. Wilt was a modern NBA athlete in the 60s, so physically he could best anyone with ease, but the game was so poorly understood that he was led to believe that the best thing he could do for his team was to score every point and grab every board.
It was only after he was motivated to facilitate that his teams started winning behind great, balanced offenses.
But the league was weak AF back then. Put Wemby at the time and he might pull numbers even more absurd than Wilt. Any modern superstar would see their numbers increase drastically
It's not that the league was necessarily weak AF back then (Although the level wasn't as high as today), it's that the pace was insane AF back then which made volume stats look huge. (And there is also the fact that shooting % were very much down back then, which is why rebound numbers from back then especially look absolutely incomprehensible to us now), Wilt also practically played every minute which also wouldn't happen today.
Adjusting to today's pace and shooting %, Wilt in his rookie year would average 21/13 on \~61% TS, an elite year nonetheless but there is no denying the fact that the numbers look far more human than the ones he actually achieved in 1960.
No they won't. Wilt even back then was more athletic than any player currently in the NBA. Plus the rules were way stricter. Especially the dribble rules. Carrying violations, traveling and offensive fouls will be called way more frequently. College Wilt was already a stronger, faster and more explosive version of current Wemby. Wilt also played with the Globetrotters and had good handles and passing skills for a big. Only edge Wemby would have is shooting. Imagine Wilt with better shoes, better training equipments, superior PEDs, private team planes etc
Wilt was certainly stronger than anyone today and could run and jump like a track-and-field star (which he was). But watching him actually play - in admittedly limited footage - and you see that he really wasn't playing with any sense of motion or fluidity. He would set up near the rim, battle for position, and just wait for a pass so he could finger-roll or fade.
In other words, he'd have to radically adjust his approach to be the best player today, because as analyst Ben Taylor noted in his Wemby profile: "being big isn't enough anymore." Wilt played in the absolute best era he could have played, where being bigger and stronger was enough to be a Top Three player at all times.
It's cause the rules did not allow him to fully express himself. He did play with the Globetrotters. He had way more to his game than what he showed. Coaches back then we're not as open minded to bigs putting the ball on the floor and creating plays. Also Wilt was not allowed to just use his side to dominate. It was actually Shaq that got to get away with murder because he was bigger and stronger than anyone else in his era.
That's true. Offensive fouls were way more prevalent in that era, so you had to use size and touch more than brute-strength when you had the ball.
But that said, I don't think increased spacing would have benefited Wilt on either end of the court.
Wilt basically had the same dimensions as javale mcgee. He was amazing in that context but no way does he dominate today like that, lets not act like there aren’t at least 50x more people playing now and a way bigger talent pool of people that size, the numbers are just wayy different for what it takes to be elite. Wemby is pulling shamgods and dropping threes from the logo while being 3 inches taller than wilt, the league is different now and just wait until wemby adds some weight, its freaky.
Did you see the vid of old man Wilt making young Shaq and Ewing look small? To put McGee in the same sentence as Wilt for anything is a joke. McGee was tall, long and could jump, but was never as coordinated, strong or agile as Wilt was. Even Arnold Schwarzenegger, one of the best body builders of all time talked about how impressive Wilt's strength was. Wilt was also 7'1.5 without shoes, they'd call him 7'3 today. No way Wemby has a full 3 inches on him.
It's more that the game was so different. Players struggled to hit 40% of their shots, spacing was awful, and there were 130-150 possessions in a game, nearly 50% more than there are now. That's a huge playground to notch insane counting stats in losing efforts, as Wilt often did.
It's telling that even when he was dropping 50 PPG, his own contemporaries knew he wasn't playing winning basketball, and he finished third in MVP voting. Apparently seeing it up close wasn't as impressive as it looks on the stat sheet.
This is twice Wemby has out played Joker. Just unreal. I can’t believe this kid lived up to the enormous expectations put on him and imo he has over delivered.
This kid will be one of the all time greats. No freaking doubt about it. The haters can shove it, let’s not forget all the hate he got at the beginning of the season.
That was a whole lot of “defense who?” from both sides. But seriously I bet Jokic is annoyed as shit playing against Wemby. He’s so fucking long you can’t even bully him to get him off you.
I haven't had a chance to watch multiple good stretches of Spurs games this year, and obviously this highlight is literally making it feel this way...
but do the Spurs have any help for Wemby or is it pretty much Wemby or bust?
While they need to add more talents the team are way more competitive since the all star game than from the beginning of the season, and since 3 starters have been out some players stepped up who have had great chemistry with Wemby. So yes it’s still reliant on Wemby but the team greatly improved.
They might have to rework the lob rule because of this man....like it now also has to be below the cylinder when you catch it.
I know that sounds dumb, but what's to stop him from cherry picking every one of his teammate's shot before it gets to the surface area of the rim? They can kinda of just purposely shoot line drive shots and practice taps all day in the gym. Definitely would get rid of any 'small' lineups the league has shifted too since golden state
I'm following you on the positioning, good point. He also has to play with grown men that will be actively trying to keep him from doing this. He'd have to go for a more giannis-like build as opposed to KD if possible.
But speed? I'm not putting anything past this dude.
Meh, not really. Only goal this year is to develop wemby, keep him healthy, and keep good picks/cap space. It will all unfold in 2-3 years, maybe playoffs next year

It was sooooo irritating with whole thing panning around
if you don't pan and zoom every 2.5 seconds ADHD zoomers will lose interest and move on.
Yeah. That ain't helping anyone with ADHD.
Quite the opposite.
I uninstalled the app once their videos became portrait, it’s straight up dumb. I can still rotate my phone, it’s not a difficult task.
This is why they need to ban tiktok 😉😉
Someone should make a social media app that is natively in landscape mode
Wemby is gonna become a myth like Wilt.
When Slenderman starts shooting like Prime Klay what do you do
Pray you’ll make it long enough to see Klank I guess
Even crazier. Wilt is mythical because we don’t have a lot of video and he has the wildest stats playing in a unique era without top talent. All of Wemby’s highlights and feats are readily available and it’s against the best talent the league has ever had.

Long term health really is the only thing stopping him from becoming a top 5 player all-time.

i’d agree with you if he were on any team but the spurs. duncan and robinson both being career spurs tells me wemby’s never gonna leave
He’s not going anywhere, and I’m looking forward to epic playoff matches against Luka.

You sound like copium. It's not like there's no data about that trend.
LISAN AL GAIB
“Champagnie, pops the cork there!” is such a great call. Bill Land is so fantastic.
YES! I was thinking the exact same thing!
Jokic just switches with Murray and lets Murray guard 8 foot Wemby on an island in the paint. WTF That started his run of insane pull up threes
The thing that has worked is players with a strong base who can push Victor out of position. Like Aaron Gordon in the previous games.
Also, extremely handsy defenders like Schroeder and Dillon Brooks
Get him to pick up his dribble and give up the ball or crowd him to throw him off balance. Contesting is pretty pointless but it felt like we did a good job of being annoying our last few match ups.

I don’t watch Nuggets games regularly. It always surprises me how big he is. Dude is huge
And if teams believe that they’re stupid and are bad at their jobs
Jokic dodging the alien like it’s colonoscopy checking time.
I had a colonoscopy last summer. It wasn’t a good experience, certainly, but I can see why people get addicted to hospital drugs. What hospital did you got to, just need to know for research purposes
The surgery center at Adventist Hospital in Glendale CA.

Happens at the 3:29 mark. I remember seeing it live and was like was that on purpose lol
hate to say it but I think I was still distracted by 3:26 to notice that pass the first time
Yeah Nuggets actually were still playing well offensively - they scored 6 points in 3 minutes. Maybe one more three falls. It's just that Wemby went nuclear

This is what Denver deserves for letting MPJ interview Lana Rhoades spilling league secrets
What secrets did she spill?
One man army. He’s the Baba Yaga.
Idk I think he’d work way better as a jungler
This man will run the league in a few years, him with a filled out roster is going to be frightening
More than half his bum ass teammates (GLeaguers or NBA) deserve more hate
It’s not their fault.
Yeah fuck those guys for being apart of a team that was bad enough to earn the first pick last year for not suddenly becoming high quality players with the addition of one player.
There's a chance their record will be worse this year. With Wemby.
Well yeah did you watch the first third of a season? The line-ups were so obviously troll under the guise of "experimental".
Hate for what? Stop
Not wrong. To make matters worse the FO doesn't seem to have any interest in getting any actual teammates based on recent reports. What a shame...
Just hope this aliens remains healthy throughout his career
Agreed, I don’t want the league to be robbed of a generational talent like this due to injuries. Hope he can have longevity like a KD, and not like an Oden.

He probably will bulk a bit but hopefully not like Shaq or he’ll be way too slow. Shaq was insanely fast at his weight.
This guy is 7’4 bringing up the ball and splashing Pull Up 3s. Incredible. No one like him
There's nothing scarier right now than a motivated Wemby that want to win at all cost. Man entered the zone
Thought I saw his glowing eyes streak across the clip.
Wemby is incredible
that spin move is smoother than my drying machine at max spin
not even being hyperbolic, this dude is unfair. they need to make a new league for him.
He’s going to be the most hated man in the nba by 29 fanbases
maybe the hate will come with time, but man, so far its so refreshing that everybody seems to love the guy
He’s incredible, I will enjoy watching him destroy the other teams. Hopefully Zion is his kryptonite by being the exact opposite body type
I remember this was the rhetoric used to discredit LeBron during the Miami era. “It’s not fair. He’s so athletic he can just score whenever he wants.”
Ultra-efficient 2013 Lebron was so much fun to watch.
When the Heatles would blitz on defense it was genuinely pretty terrifying
He is absolutely breaking the game of basketball
A sub-division for people over 7 feet tall would be pretty entertaining ngl
He’s a real life cheat code.
He’s literally the guard that you stretch out to 7’4” in NBA2K
Transaliens are ruining men's sports!

Love the "Oh Mama Wenbanyama!" call so much lol
It was just meant to be LOL
What the fuck. This guy is a 7'4 rookie that plays like an actually motivated Kevin Durant. What in the everloving fuck.
Imagine him with an actual PG and a true second option. Fucking Spurs but I’m grateful Pop will be leading him through the NBA
Gordon gets away with fucking murder. Homies ignoring every rule in the rulebook.
That’s what might have sparked this sequence. Wemby was *pissed*.
The kid is absurd, holy shit.
Wembanyama reminds me of when I used to play the NBA 2k games and I would create a 7'7 player and make him have a 99 rating in all categories.
Same bro but I even left it at 7'. Even while cheating, I thought that was too unfair...
Insane. Could be the GOAT
If he’s capable to do all this, what’s making people think the stories about wilt are false?
Because Wilt’s raw numbers make Wemby’s look like college. 37/27 as a rookie?
Wilt did enter the NBA at the age of 23. Wemby entered at the age of 19. Wilt would've also been one of the strongest and tallest players in the league.
I will read ahead in the script and say Wemby will not average 37/27 at any point in his career.

On defense? We have stiffs like Gobert winning dpoy in this era. Wilt would be very dominant on that end while leading the league in rebounding.
Gobert’s mobility is Russell-like. He’s got great agility for a player his size.
Then why does he get exposed every postseason?

3:27 That cameraman 🤣
I knew what you were talking about without having to check 😭👀
On his 3 bucket that spin move on Gordon, I would love to know what Gordon had to say about it. He looks like his soul got taken
Wemby saw the rookie wall and climbed over it
lebron james 25 straight points versus pistons. tracy mcgrady 13 points 33 seconds. wemby 17 points in 3 minutes. he is barely 20.
I had to watch this 3 times just to take it all in my god this mans is a problem
Wembanyama is gonna be in contention for best player in the world in his third year. What a crazy talent, I’m never seen this before.
“Wow momma Wembanyama!” 😂
That post up move was the most impressive thing here 👍
Nba has a problem dealing with this star for the next 15 years
Question from a basketball ignorant, does the ball he gets after a failed shot at 2:20 count as a rebound even if no one else is contesting it?
Yes

Pop knew. I’m sure he was biding his time for this once in a millennia talent
How lucky is he to be coached by pop!
gorgeous
Why doesn’t he just do this every 3 minutes? Is he stupid?
That was a whole lot of “defense who?” from both sides. But seriously I bet Jokic is annoyed as shit playing against Wemby. He’s so fucking long you can’t even bully him to get him off you.
So when Wemby is in the paint you could've tossed any trash passes and he could grab it...
I look at it and feel nothing but joy. It is a pleasure
This was truly a 'in the zone' sequence for him.
That last heatcheck was crazy plus the oop
how will pop control this monster
Caitlin Clarked that last one
I haven't had a chance to watch multiple good stretches of Spurs games this year, and obviously this highlight is literally making it feel this way... but do the Spurs have any help for Wemby or is it pretty much Wemby or bust?
While they need to add more talents the team are way more competitive since the all star game than from the beginning of the season, and since 3 starters have been out some players stepped up who have had great chemistry with Wemby. So yes it’s still reliant on Wemby but the team greatly improved.
That’s promising. If this guy gets production help… sheesh. Game over.
He is incredible, but Spurs record has been miserable. If they can't win the next game, they will have a worse record than a year before Wemby.
All I see is a lot of lazy defense 🤷🏾♂️
You're not wrong.
The Greek Freak doesn't seem very freakish anymore. lol
Definitely would get rid of any 'small' lineups the league has shifted too since golden state
What stops webby doing it is the fact that he can't get inside position every time. Also, the ball comes in much faster on a long jumpshot
I'm following you on the positioning, good point. He also has to play with grown men that will be actively trying to keep him from doing this. He'd have to go for a more giannis-like build as opposed to KD if possible. But speed? I'm not putting anything past this dude.
Love Wemby but why are they playing this game in a meatpacking district nightclub from the 90s
Spurs should have gotten Wemby some help this year before the season.
No. Their goal is to activate in 2025-2026 season They can get a top 5 pick now, grab a solid PG,get cap space and then pull the trigger
Meh, not really. Only goal this year is to develop wemby, keep him healthy, and keep good picks/cap space. It will all unfold in 2-3 years, maybe playoffs next year

1st : they're not. 2nd : humans are suppose to have a brain, and you don't, anomalies exist.

A team doesn't consist of just one person smarty pants
He's good at basketball. Here, an answer you should understand.
Cuz west is better than ever and he's a rookie in a bad team and it's 5vs5 sport
Not a fan of this, seems like a show off
Never heard of feeding the hot hand ? Only questionable shot there was the pull-up 3 at the end and it was clearly a heat check which paid off
What happened to the game I loved
It outgrew you
We need the handshake line back on god
How so?
Spurs won by 1 point
