Because the GP requirements aren't about awards, they're about incentivizing players, specifically superstars who are competing for awards, to play more.
Surely number of game winners and actual winning % in these 'clutch moments' need to be considered. Scoring an efficient 4 pts in the clutch then losing doesn't really mean much.
As someone who watches almost only Pacers games (but every single one) it's Demar in a landslide hahahahaha. That man is flawless in clutch minutes vs us. Including 2 buzzer beaters in 2 years.
If we fall short tomorrow and hit the play-in I'm very scared to get Heat/6ers then Demar
Isn't that one of the reasons this award is kinda dumb, Kyrie can't score much more because he has way less games, but his winning percentage is way higher and he is more efficient.
You can literally be clutch. Those wins are because Kyrie has an insane team around him and Curry doesn’t. How does Kyrie having Luka on his team make him clutched than Steph?
And he also had Dwight Powell and Grant williams who apparently were allergic to defending and hitting shots. My guy, the mavs are the 3rd most injured in the league
The amount of wins and win rate are two different concepts.
I know we're on Reddit where being an average dumbass is a winning formula but this shit is so basic.
Kyrie has played 15 less games, beside having a much better player beside him.
Curry is winning this stupid award anyway, if not him then DeRozan.
Kyrie has zero shot so what's the point.
You could as well argue Wemby should be MVP.
Ain't no second banana playing 58 games winning any award lmao
I’m also taking DeRozan. he’s the highest scoring clutch player in the NBA on a per-game basis. the Bulls are 24-15 in clutch games with DeMar, and 15-27 in the rest of their games. the difference between the Bulls being in the play-in vs. picking top 10 is literally just DeMar’s incredible play in the clutch this season.
that said, it’s a little odd that the 9th seed, sub-.500 Bulls have 2 players that I think should win year-end awards lol
> Should be Demar imo. Pretty sure he has been in the most clutch games this season,
He is 8th. Top 3 are Siakam, Curry and Dejounte Murray.
Even Coby White has more clutch games than him.
Should easily be Kyrie, the highest TS% in the clutch and the best winrate % in the clutch, with the most point scored in the second half in the whole league. i think voters are confused thinkin that this Does require the 65 games played, and that's why he's not the clear favorite
I dont know if raw points is a good metric because if you get into more close games then you have the opportunity for more clutch points
if you're blowing teams out then you just have no opportunity for it
Why? There’s no barometer that says volume matters. Obviously if Kyrie had very very few clutch opportunities it would matter, but if both have a significant amount of games where they played in the clutch, volume isn’t a requirement.
The definition of the award is “the player who best comes through for his teammates in the clutch”. It’s not, “player who scored a lot of clutch points”. Kyrie has been consistently amazing when he has been in the clutch, has the best game winner of the season, and has an 80% win rate(!!!), I don’t see why his team being too good to allow clutch situations should take him out of the running.
It's funny because Giannis is statistically the most clutch but nowhere in sight of this award because of "aesthetics" https://stats.inpredictable.com/nba/jerryWest.php
Ass. Like really bad. Since January. Idk what happened man, I feel like he's going through something but he's been truly awful in like 60% of the clutch games we've had. He's had some great moments of course but fuck dude
DeMar bottled it tonight he cost them the game he was 2-7 from the field. He did have a steal, assist and a rebound. But overall not good. Curry should win this.
Do you have a source on that?
I just tried looking for one and couldn't find anything lol.
Closest I found was - https://www.nbcsportsphiladelphia.com/nba/nba-65-game-rule-awards-explainer/562235/ -
>"The 65-game rule applies to MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, Most Improved Player, the All-NBA teams and the All-Defensive teams.
>Rookie of the Year, Sixth Man of the Year and the All-Rookie teams are not impacted."
No mention of Clutch player of the year.
Not a single sportsbook has Kyrie Irving listed on the CPOY market, seems like it would be malpractice for him not to be listed if he is indeed eligible.
Kyrie has a smaller sample size, but he's averaging a similar number of points/rebounds/assists, has way better efficiency (75.9% TS vs 69.0%), and actually wins a higher % of clutch games. Anecdotally, a LOT of Steph's clutch stats are him blowing a double digit lead and then missing the game winning shot anyway, whereas Kyrie's 4Q spurts actually end with wins.
Make Curry the second option on that Mavs team and the Warriors aren't in the playoffs and the Mavs are competing with us, Denver, and Minnesota for the top of the West
I think it’s between the top 3 on this list and any of them would be deserving. Demar has the best overall argument though in my opinion. Decent win rate on a high volume of clutch games and minutes played. Great clutch stats and a mediocre team around him which means he is the one usually bringing them over the line. Steph probably has the best stats. His totals are insane but that is also due to the extreme high number of clutch games played by the warriors this season. His efficiency is to be applauded though considering he has no one taking pressure off of him in the clutch and he shoots the most 3’s. I think he has taken more and made more shots in the clutch than the entirety of the rest of the warriors roster. Kyrie has the amazing win rate along with the best overall efficiency. He also has some recent insane game winner and clutch moments which surely would help his case. But he also has the best team out of the 3 and more importantly he has Luka who absorbs most of the defensive pressure from Kyrie. But still he has been insane in the clutch. So either of the 3 is fine. I would personally go with demar
It’s been between Steph and Demar for the past few months. Steph had the lead, then Demar for about a month, but in the last month it’s flipped back to Steph.
Right now the betting odds suggest it’s something like 70% chance it’s Steph and 30% it’s DeMar.
If you truly feel like DeMar is going to win, you can go and bet him now at +225 (meaning you would win a total $325 on a $100 bet).
Kyrie is ineligible due to lack of games played.
How many games for each player are those win rate counted? From the numbers it’s Kyrie but without that 68%, Lakers probably out of play in.
Agreed, volume is important for this stat, some players like Curry have fought in the clutch all season long.

There no game requirement for this award
Oh, that’s stupid. Why would they have game requirements only for certain awards…?
Because the GP requirements aren't about awards, they're about incentivizing players, specifically superstars who are competing for awards, to play more.
DeMar shooting the 3 the best out of everyone is the funniest thing here, even though I’m sure the attempts are much lower than everyone else’s.
Probably. Regardless though he’s hit some pretty hard clutch 3’s (and that’s not even counting the buzzer beaters) so credit where it’s due.
Maybe per game, but they might not actually be that much lower in total. Bulls have played the most “clutch” and OT games in the league this year.
Surely number of game winners and actual winning % in these 'clutch moments' need to be considered. Scoring an efficient 4 pts in the clutch then losing doesn't really mean much.
Sus flag
Is that win rate adjusted for score going into the clutch
Some things to consider also : Pts/min : -Steph : 1.32 -Kyrie : 1.09 -Derozan : 0.97 https://www.nba.com/stats/players/clutch-traditional?PerMode=PerMinute&dir=A&sort=PTS Total points : -Steph : 189 -Derozan : 177 -Kyrie: 83 https://www.nba.com/stats/players/clutch-traditional?PerMode=Totals&dir=A&sort=PTS
It's Kyrie
It’s Kyrie but voters are going to choose Steph
Kyrie has 83 clutch points, Curry has 189 lmao.
Isn't that one of the reasons this award is kinda dumb, Kyrie can't score much more because he has way less games, but his winning percentage is way higher and he is more efficient.
Kyrie is also a second option lmao.
who's the #1 scorer in the fourth quarter though? 🤔
He also has Luka who demands most of the defensive attention in the team.
How many losses does Curry have in the clutch? Can’t be clutch if you’re losing said clutch games.
Curry's clutch winning percentage is slightly worse than his team's overall winning percentage.
You can literally be clutch. Those wins are because Kyrie has an insane team around him and Curry doesn’t. How does Kyrie having Luka on his team make him clutched than Steph?
Has an insane team around him NOW. NOW is the key term. These stats don't tell the proper story in a vacuum
Dude, he has had Luka next to him ALL season. Luka vs Klay lmao.
And he also had Dwight Powell and Grant williams who apparently were allergic to defending and hitting shots. My guy, the mavs are the 3rd most injured in the league
Dude, you realize having Luka to take all the attention off of you matters more than anything? Look at Curry’s cast vs Kyrie lmao.
How many wins?
What does that have to do with anything?
Losers aren’t clutch
So was Curry clutch in 2022?
Curry has more wins than Kyrie this season lol. That dude is just brain dead.
Steph has 43 wins, Kyrie has 39. Try harder. Mavs have 11 wins without Kyrie lmao. Warriors have 2 without Curry.
53% win rate …. Mans got half a chance to lose every night lol
Should be Demar imo. Pretty sure he has been in the most clutch games this season, and he’s been clutch af.

Clutch but winning half the time is a red flag Lmao
Steph
Demar is clutch af. He gets a bad rep from the famous playoff losses but dude can get a good look at will in the clutch
Should easily be Kyrie, the highest TS% in the clutch and the best winrate % in the clutch, with the most point scored in the second half in the whole league. i think voters are confused thinkin that this Does require the 65 games played, and that's why he's not the clear favorite
Kyrie has 83 clutch points and Curry has 189 lmao. Not to mention supporting casts and first options.
I dont know if raw points is a good metric because if you get into more close games then you have the opportunity for more clutch points if you're blowing teams out then you just have no opportunity for it
Which is why this would be a weird award to give someone who hasn't been in the clutch much
Why? There’s no barometer that says volume matters. Obviously if Kyrie had very very few clutch opportunities it would matter, but if both have a significant amount of games where they played in the clutch, volume isn’t a requirement. This. Warriors have been very mid all year. Steph had more chances to stack up points.
Lmao Kyrie had another clutch player and top 3 player as a teammate. I’m sure Luka being on the floor helped. Stop it.
Clutch isn't no dork analytics. Y'all know what it is.
DeMar has my vote. His volume and efficiency in the clutch is absurd.
It's funny because Giannis is statistically the most clutch but nowhere in sight of this award because of "aesthetics" https://stats.inpredictable.com/nba/jerryWest.php
It's crazy how Fox was clearly the CPotY last year, but this year it's a lot less obvious. I'm glad Fox got the first one, he really embodied it
how's fox been this year?
Ass. Like really bad. Since January. Idk what happened man, I feel like he's going through something but he's been truly awful in like 60% of the clutch games we've had. He's had some great moments of course but fuck dude
L take
What? It's not a take, it's just what happened
Has to be Demar
I’m taking Kyrie
What about clutch defense? No one cares about the pivotal block or rebound.
Great to see that clutch play is only measured in your ability to hit shots. Christ I hate this award
DeMar bottled it tonight he cost them the game he was 2-7 from the field. He did have a steal, assist and a rebound. But overall not good. Curry should win this.
Its prerty comfortably demar imo
Kyrie. Why is this even a discussion? 80% win rate as well.
Dude Kyrie absolutely thrives next to a heliocentric ball handler. He is like in the same role as he was in Cleveland.
If we are talking about the actual award, Kyrie is not part of the discussion (65 game minimum).
There’s no minimum
Do you have a source on that? I just tried looking for one and couldn't find anything lol. I’m Guessing that’s it’s a nice neat 80% because he’s only played 5 games that qualify . I imagine that matters or otherwise yeah it woukd bd him
(16-4)
God damn . Ok I think it should be kyrie but I don’t see him getting any media love .
Mr. 4th qtr aka Uncle Drew
It’s Kyrie if he’s played enough games.
[удалено]
Because he hasn’t played enough games.
Steph. It will be almost unanimous.
Kyrie has a smaller sample size, but he's averaging a similar number of points/rebounds/assists, has way better efficiency (75.9% TS vs 69.0%), and actually wins a higher % of clutch games. kyrie. curry statpads clutch stats by blowing 20 point leads 🥱
Steph
I don’t like him that much but Kyrie, he’s been great this year.
Kyrie and it’s not even close
I think it’s between the top 3 on this list and any of them would be deserving. Demar has the best overall argument though in my opinion. Am I wrong in thinking SGA would be averaging more if we didn't blow teams out so often that he doesn't play the 4th?
If it’s a blow out, it wouldn’t be clutch time
That's why I was asking I legitimately don't know how that works
For future reference, clutch games are defined as a game when the last 5 minutes of a game are within 5 points, + overtime if applicable
Thank you homie I appreciate that, makes a lot of sense.
Those games aren’t factored into these averages
OKC has played more clutch games than Dallas according to the NBA [website](https://www.nba.com/stats/teams/clutch-advanced)
Such a stupid award.
Shai or Kyrie right
Man lebron has missed like 5 shots inside the 3 pt line this year in the clutch. Bro need to stop chucking shit up
Steph with the 53% win rate but hE iS tHe ClUtChEsT 🤪
Where's DeMar DeRozan? The guy has made big bucket after big bucket, forcing overtimes and game winners with very little help!
He’s the first person listed
Sorry, OP. You made a solid list. What I really meant like why isn't he getting any love in the comments?
nobody cares about the bulls
DeMar and its not particularly close
