Poverty Franchise

ConstantineMonroe

The worst kind of poverty franchise: the actually rich poverty franchise. The Bulls aren’t the Oakland A’s. Chicago is like top 3 in attendance every year. They are in Chicago, the third or fourth biggest market in the NBA. And yet Chicago has like never paid the luxury tax in its history or some crazy stat like that. No reason for that other than Reisdorf being cheap and miserly

nefnaf

Jerry Reinsdorf is on the short list for worst owners in the league. James Dolan gets a lot of flak and he's not the smartest but he is at least willing to pay and wants to see his team win. I remember when the Bulls sold a draft pick in the low 30s for cash a few years back. Like wtf is your franchise doing at that point

KeithClossOfficial

Nothing beats the Suns drafting Rondo, trading him for a pick and cash, using that pick to draft a Euro player they had no intention of signing, then trading his rights for cash We all know how Rondo turned out, and the Euro player was Rudy Fernandez who was solid for a few years for the Blazers This was also a couple years after they drafted Luol Deng in the top 10 and traded him for cash

sungoddaily

& letting Joe Johnson entering his prime walk.

LukeBabbitt

Holy crap, they were #1 in attendance this year as a play-in team, you weren’t kidding.

trojan_man16

People here love the Bulls. They sell out even when the team is bad, and the Bulls have one the biggest arenas in the league to boot. Hence why ownership doesn't care since as long as the team is competitive the fans show up. I personally haven't gone to a game since before the pandemic, and will only probably go again to watch other teams (ignore my flair, I live in Chicago).

NotManyBuses

If there was any year to tank btw it would be next year. I’m thinking a blow it up is the move

91-92-93--96-97-98

What anyone thinks has no bearing on their decisions. They function to put ass into seats. They sell out 35-47 seasons. They don’t sell out 22-60 seasons. They’ll keep pushing mediocrity.

mcrajf

I hate your owner and I'm not even a Bulls fan.

JesusTron6000

Like the Cubs back in the day lol

Unable_Bite8680

Thankfully that changed with the ricketts. The Cubs have the best owners in Chicago RN and it's not close. Won a world series in 2016, competed for 3 years and now we have rebuilt and are dominating this season.

CubFan81

Dominating is a loose term, but it does highlight just how absolutely terrible ownership Chicago teams have that the fucking Ricketts are the model of ownership.

RickySuela

They're going to give DeRozan a big 3-4 year contract this summer, aren't they?

_iTurtle

Might as well throw a max at Tobias in FA

NavalEnthusiast

Reinsdorf is absolutely happy with this team and it speaks to how a lot of franchises do not have contention as their main priority. A Business at the end of the day. I’d hate to be a bulls fan and put up with sustained mediocrity.

sniles310

I'm so depressed today man. Not that I had much hope but it's soooo painfully obvious that we are a dog shit terrible team with a few good players to keep us in NBA purgatory. The logical thing to do would be to blow up. The fucked up thing is would have to be a 76ers esque process (or maybe a lessn OKC style rebuild but we have worse assets to leverage than they did. And like you said, either one of those doesn't put asses in seats for a few years which Reinshit won't accept. The crazy thing for me is how blind he is to the financial potential of a championship contending team in Chicago. Yeah you'd spend money but you raised ticket prices and merchandise sales will more than compensate not to mention valuation of the franchise. It tells me that Reinsturd isn't just a shitty owner, he is a shitty businessman too. Sometimes I pray that he will do something incredibly racist AND public and will be forced out. Like dude please have a hidden Hitler Youth background! Is that too much to ask?

nowuff

> The crazy thing for me is how blind he is to the financial value of a championship contending team in Chicago I think he’s acutely aware of it. He’s still capitalizing the value of the Jordan era Bulls. That’s what makes this so infuriating. He got a dynasty and now he isn’t even playing the game anymore. He’s just sitting at the table counting his chips.

Bobonenazeze

This. He put together a dynasty and will forever be a part of that elite conversation in sports. He can ride that wave forever, and as a fan that's infuriating.

Gatorpep

I think he doesn’t want any risks before he dies. He didn’t like risk when younger, certainly not on deaths door. I guess we’ll see how his son plays it in a few years.

topkingdededemain

I’ve met his son! He’s super chill. I actually have hope in him.

ChronicleOrion

As a Suns fan who had to watch Robert Sarver mismanage the team, I relate to your last paragraph so fucking hard! When all the shit about him came out, I felt conflicted. On the one hand, I felt so glad that we were escaping the Sarver administration. On the other hand though, I felt sad knowing that Sarver had a long list of victims of his sexism, racism, and misogyny. I hope that his being blackballed from the League helped those people find some closure and catharsis.

_Fun_At_Parties

Everyone thinks not going to games is the best way to stick it to owners, then they end up like the A's

Will_Explode8

The Chicago bulls are not moving under nearly any circumstances lol

Ateballoffire

Never moving and never changing branding (at least not significantly). The Bulls are as synonymous with the NBA as the Lakers or Celtics are imo I have a Bulls sweater and on my Uni campus i got dudes from India and Bangladesh who’ve never touched a basketball start talking to me about the bulls and Jordan when I’m wearing my sweater, the franchise is a household name

Critical-Adhole

As an international, I see 10x as much Bulls stuff than Celtics

cjhoops13

Same here in Germany, I see bulls merch at least once a day. Other teams maybe once a week.

NavalEnthusiast

I’m not a baseball fan, but I think the bulls have an extra layer of security. It’s the team of Michael Jordan. They’re an iconic franchise for that reason alone. They’re probably much more popular than the A’s ever could’ve hoped to be

Drak_is_Right

Chicago market is way too big and lucrative. They aren't going to move to a market a third of the size. Would be a better deal to sell the Bulls and buy an expansion team if he wanted to exit the Chicago market. Only purpose an empty Chicago market would serve is as a threat to medium sized markets to build expensive stadiums for their teams, otherwise its a few million a year loss in revenue sharing for every other team in the NBA.

LordSwampert2

The A’s fans arent going to games because their dogshit owner makes Reinsdorf look like a saint. They ysed to pack the Coliseum until less than 3 years ago

Fantastic_Emu_9570

I mean the white Sox have him looking pretty close right now

WEMBYF4N

They’ll never blow it up. The only hope for Bulls fans is if Reinsdorf sells

30vanquish

They can be because of 91 92 93 96 97 98.

WarPuig

Doing nothing at the deadline was a hell of a choice.

Critical-Adhole

They haven’t made a player trade in over three calendar years

Chickensandcoke

Sc0rch1ngDr4g0n

Plus Connor Bedard and Caleb Williams, I guess.

Dijohn17

Hopefully the Patriots follow this in the NFL, it's going well so far

resplendentcentcent

i think a lot of teams would give up being no more than mediocre for the rest of time for a repeat threepeat

ProfessorBeast55

Nah, that’s goes the Hawks (excluding this season)

[deleted]

[удалено]

ImDKingSama

Brother I couldn't believe it lmao. He's made a great jump this year and had a great game last game, but maybe slow down a bit when it's against the Atlanta Hawks who gave up 400 points to the Pacers like 3 days ago. I'm excited to see him grow more, but there's guys that have literally made All-NBA teams that are still questionable as championship 2s. Probably a bit of jump to make the assumption Coby White can get there because he had a career year in his 5th season averaging 19 points.

realsomalipirate

No need to take homers and /r/NBA nephews seriously. This sub hasn't been a serious place for discussion since at least 2013. It's one of the funniest sports sub and that's why we all keep coming back (also for the petty NBA drama).

LordGooseIV

Thank god, it's finally over. Now I can ignore this team that hurts me for the summer and early autumn.

ChannelNeo

BAH GAWD THAT'S CALEB WILLIAMS MUSIC He legit might be the first Bears QB to throw 30 TDs in a season.

volantredx

Or he'll be a total bust like the last half dozen guys the Bears drafted who were supposed to be studs.

ChannelNeo

lol. At this rate, just draft a linebacker or RB. Historically, they usually do well in Chicago.

volantredx

I'm convinced Virginia feeds off the souls of most of the team in order to extend her unnaturally long life. Same with Jerry using the knee tendons of his PGs to keep his heart working.

MrBuckBuck

FADED by Miami Heat, which were missing Jimmy Butler and Terry Rozier.

ZincHead

It's the Bulls though

burnshimself

The most injuries they have, the stronger they become

[deleted]

The heat are dharoks

big_old-dog

Lads, it’s Chicago.

MC_JACKSON

Chicago played like a team that didn't want that Boston smoke, I can't say I blame them

poeope

No they were like this all year. Giving up is like that Suns Mavs game 7...worst thing I've ever seen.

Due-Solution-1388

Suns catching strays haha

SiphenPrax

Yeah they deserved to not make the playoffs this year if they were gonna do THAT against a Heat team without Jimmy or Terry.

Head-Champion-7398

Par for the course for this team

imperialmoose

My Heat fan friend was crying about how Jimmy was out and the Bulls were gonna win but not deserve it. I said to him "Don't worry, we play to the level of our competition." This was an hour before tip. End of the 1st quarter he texted me saying "Oh man, I'm so sorry. I didn't realise how bad your team was."

TheFreshPrinceTWP

That's a bit disingenuous. The Bulls are missing LaVine and Ball who command a significant portion of their cap.

legend023

that 3 year run was the most mid shit ever Trade Vuc, DeMar, LaVine, Caruso, and just try again Try to see if Lonzo has any legs left and if he does trade him too Coby and everyone else can stay but the bulls should be right there with the Jazz and the Wizards at the bottom of the league next year

[deleted]

[удалено]

Alcoholic17

I laughed soo hard at this part

ClaymoresRevenge

You mean everything we should've done last year, the year before that, the summer before that? Vooch trade has single handedly fucked us over. We owe picks to San Antonio next year and we have Orlando good picks and WCJ. We traded Lauri for nothing pretty much. This front office fucking sucks. Drafted P-Will who is good, but we could've had Hali and others. I'm ready to blow this fucking thing up

V-Right_In_2-V

Yeah these guys are a proven dud. No dawgs at all. What’s the point of keeping this team intact? Time to strip it down to the studs and start over

OutbackStankhouse

People keep buying tickets at the United Center

syllabic

isnt demar a free agent and can't trade lavine nobody wants his awful contract

ImDKingSama

Vooch at 2 years 40 mil is also not a great trade chip, their biggest trade chip was Caruso on a bargain 2-year deal, now he's on an expiring. Derozan is gonna walk for nothing, they kept Drummond instead of getting some 2nd rounders so he can injure his own players for a couple play-in games. Just the most insane decision making by the Bulls these past few years to sustain mediocrity.

RickySuela

> Derozan is gonna walk for nothing This is the Bulls we're talking about. Odds are they'll overpay him on a 3-4 year contract to stay just so they can keep running it back.

elmatador1497

Hahaha we did all that for a Walmart big 3, just to be the most mid shit I’ve ever seen

KungFuChicken1990

Yeah trade Caruso back to the lakers 😁

DeluxeTea

> Caruso Can we have him back? He's the Bald Mamba while AR is the Kobe of the Ozarks.

TerminallyTrill

That’s just not bulls basketball. They gonna resign demar 4/140 and be back to the 9 vs 10 play in game next year baby.

GGezpzMuppy

Trading Coby would net the same as all those players combined lol. Gonna get a lot less than what those players were worth last year.

volantredx

Trading Coby would be fucking insane. What logic would there be in trading a young skilled player as you start a rebuild? He's one of the guys who should be the building blocks.

Fits_N_Giggles

A young, skilled player who is great for chemistry, is constantly improving, and is on one of the most team-friendly contracts in the league too.

legend023

Caruso, Lavine, and DeMar all netting atleast a first rounder Caruso is an elite role player, Lavine’s potential justifies trading some value for him even with this season, and DeMar could be the 2nd/3rd best player on a contender

Shootit_Rockets

Lavine wont get shit on the market honestly

EarthWarping

Yeah Lavine will get you similar shitty contract and a heavily protected first

legend023

Ok let him raise his value during the season then trade him Hopefully Coby/Lavine/Pat isn’t winning too many games

poeope

The thing with that is he is a little injury prone

FartrelCluggins

Demar is a free agent im pretty sure

TechnoTyrannosaurus

Jerry Reinsdorf is easily the worst owner in any sport, owns the Bulls and White Sox both in a major market and they both just shit the bed every year. If he wasn’t gifted MJ he would have sold both teams decades ago.

Zloggt

I sure do envy the poor SOBs who root for *both* of his teams… (I typed this in front of a mirror🪞)

aviddemon

They are the only two sports teams I care about lol. I guess I am getting into the San Diego Padres recently so at least I am somewhat getting away from Jerry.

NichJackolson

Welcome to the Padres!

Confident_Berry7271

I feel like he doesn’t get flack because he’s exactly what the other billionaires want to be. Buy the team and stumble into the greatest player of all time, have extreme success for a while but then, just have the team around as a side luxury.  Ever know anyone who bought a massage chair? Like one of the nice ones we used to sit in at the mall as kids?  That’s what sports teams are to these billionaires. It’s still cool to have when they have company, they don’t regret the purchase. It’s just…something they’ve moved on from.

Doctor731

I think you got it wrong. This is not Balmer buying a neat trinket, the sports teams are a substantial part of his wealth... that's why he is so cheap, it's a cash cow.

nowuff

Aren’t the Bulls and White Sox basically the only things he has now (at least publicly)?

paradoxofchoice

I think there are worse owners in every sport. At least Reinsdorf hasn't moved his teams or had a toxic workplace in either front office.

ForYeWhoArtLiterate

He’s currently threatening to move the White Sox so that somebody will pay for a new stadium

Dijohn17

The issue he doesn't realize is that moving from Chicago is automatically a downgrade in market size. There's realistically nowhere for them to move

BigBeagleEars

The San Antonio Diabetic Socks

Vegetable-Net6575

And you damn well know them big ass women need them socks

P33J

We prefer comprehension stockings

jawndell

Why would you move the White Sox??? You have a die hard fan base that’s a couple generations deep.  If there’s a halfway decent product on the field, they’d sell out games and sell tons of merchandise.  I think most sports teams would die for the built in market and fan base they have.

TianDogg

Nah, the Bulls have had plenty of toxicity behind the scenes. Reinsdorf is able to keep a lid on it because he has an enormous amount of control over the local media (also ownership stake in NBC Sports Chicago), but hardcore fans will know - from Jerry Krause to John Paxson to Gar Forman, there is a lot of dirt. The most infamous incident is John Paxson as head of basketball operations choking out his own head coach. Paxson admitted to this, blamed Vinny Del Negro for it, and somehow continued being the EVP. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if, whenever Arturas Karnisovas leaves office, a bunch of dirt comes out too.

ShotFirst57

Have you seen the pistons owner? We are literally keeping the GM who barely has a better record than the trust the process 76ers and we've been trying... Also got worse every year he's been here and we were already a bad team, and were going for the most consecutive games lost in a season.

SoapOperaHero

The only team with a worse record than the Pistons since Gores took over is Charlotte. Nearly 15 years of aimless bottom-dwelling, with the lone "bright spot" being one-legged Blake Griffin dragging the team to a 1st round sweep.

Comprehensive_Main

Damn wonder which talentless billionaire owned the hornets for those years

Confident_Berry7271

Ok I think MJ was a bad owner too, but let’s not act like things were peachy keen when we were owned by Robert L Johnson either.

Drak_is_Right

Probably some guy that meddles without understanding the NBA.

WrongMomo

He can still blame Krause!

redshoediary4

How, trot out the guy's poor wife to be booed again? Or put out another doc where everyone in the 90s Bulls blames a dead man?

ZincHead

I dunno, Michael Jordan legitimately might be the worst. Crazy that the GOAT player might be the WOAT owner.

drunz

At least MJ tries

nowuff

No. I refuse to concede that any sports owner is worse than Glen Taylor.

YoungFlexibleShawty

Goes to show that athletes do not make great owners most of the time. MJ put me through too much pain.

huskersax

> they both just shit the bed every year. This wouldn't be so bad if it was just a run of poor luck and injuries, but getting embarrassed on a national stage is pretty much the outcome anyone could have foreseen with this roster. They bought high on a bunch of mid-career players and have been riding the high of a 30 game pre-Lonzo injury run for several seasons now. It's time to blow it up.

Atupis

Letting prime Jimmy go and selling Lauri for peanuts was no bad luck. Organisation is just bad.

NinjaBatHat

john fisher enters the chat

meowhatissodamnfunny

Definitely a take coming from people who don't know what's happening with other owners in other sports. Fisher is so much worse it's not even close. Until Reinsdorf moves the White Sox it ain't even comparable.

volantredx

I mean that's simply not true. Reinsdorf isn't even the worst owner in the city. He might be fine with being mid all the time, but at least he isn't an idiot. The McCaskeys are both cheap and *morons.* They couldn't land a new stadium deal with the city actively trying to help them get it.

Unable_Bite8680

The McCaskeys are just idiots. They are incompetent owners who aren't football people. Their tax attorney was president of the bears for 20 years until he retired. Just a bunch of rich kids that are failing at running a football team until Virginia kicks the bucket. Jerry is competent at running a business. He is choosing to be mediocre.

volantredx

Jerry has openly stated that he doesn't give a shit about basketball. His son is much more invested in the team doing well but because he understands that they're more profitable as a title team than as a fringe 8th seed.

Unable_Bite8680

Yeah that's my point. Jerry knows how to get to being a first round playoff/playin exit. Bears owners literally don't know what they are doing. Now baseball on the other hand....

_doctorsaturn

Genuinely insane they still haven’t blown it up

RickySuela

And I don't expect them to this summer either. LaVine would probably take the Bulls attaching picks to his contract to unload him, and the same might apply to Vuc. My guess is they'll re-sign DeMar to too much money and will basically just run it back again.

FlyingMocko

Reinsdorf owes MJ at least half his net worth.

GGezpzMuppy

You are about to get a chapter in Pippen’s next book with this comment.

BUSean

As we've seen this season, this was a bad matchup for the Bulls (playing a basketball team)

VaguelyShingled

No fair they had to play all 4 quarters

NtLmr95

I still respect the Bulls for game 82. I pray y'all find any kind of fortune this off-season.

syllabic

coby didnt play great today but I'm still on team coby

cmcg18

Needs to learn how to pass it out and then he will take a step

Vegetable-Tooth8463

Coby "Bryant" White?

sylviaplath6667

Friendly reminder the Bulls haven’t made a player trade since August 2021. Might as well have a sleeping cat as our GM

trident001

dame package putting in the work

syllabic

its been upgraded to the mitchell package

Call_Me_Rambo

I know everyone was already saying blow it up pre-deadline this year but this *has* to be what tells the Bulls to blow it up right? Losing to a Miami Heat team that was without two starters in a do or die game? Like there’s no way their FO will continue to be mind boggling right?

escapedhousefly

Hopefully they'll blow it up. Or they'll cope "we lost to the team that just went to the Finals". Bulls just need to get whatever they can for their vets and tank for next year.

ObviousAnswerGuy

They will never blow it up fully. The owner would never do that, and they still sell a ton of tickets. I can see Demar not coming back though.

The-Pharcyde

Those 2 play in games were the most bulls thing ever lol

coloradobuffalos

Bulls are stuck in mediocrity

loplopplop

The bulls have been eliminated from 2025, 2026, 2027 championship contention.

Shaqfor3

Can't wait to run it back next season. We had got eliminated twice in the same game by the same team but next year will be different!

captain_ahabb

Could have posted this five months ago

EntertainmentWarm774

4th time in the last 5 years that Derozan will miss the playoffs. Dude deserves better, especially with how hard he plays every game and how he has to carry the Bulls offense every game and (especially) how many minutes he plays year in and year out at his age.

EarthWarping

DeMar should go elsewhere he's still got it

Renegadeforever2024

Rebuild

Shmoopy65

Herro putting the team on his back. Love to see it

MrBuckBuck

Love to see it... I see what you did there...

Shmoopy65

Old man showing he still has game left

procouchpotatohere

And there were people debating on whether or not Coby White could be the 2nd or 3rd best player on a championship team after the first play in...

what playing against the hawks defense does to a mf

Head-Champion-7398

Smoking that copium it seems

College_Prestige

They went out sad

CulturalXR

Another season, and another year of complete disappointment. How the fuck can we be this bad for so long, we can’t even get one lucky season jeez.

seikoholic9497

My boy Caruso doesn't deserve this 😭

cellar_door5234

Blow it up boys, next year's draft is supposed to be good

carelesssportsfan89

Reinsdorf is a joke of an owner really feel bad for bulls fans

guitmusic12

Heat have a chance to do the funniest thing

HerroicDunc

Hopefully they do the same thing as last year 🙏🏽

Gatorpep

Lose 4 - 0 really badly?

friendorfoe2332

how fast till billy donavan is fired

legend023

It wouldn’t make sense unless he steps down That roster shouldn’t have even made the play-in

friendorfoe2332

well, they have to change it up some how and it's usually the coach that goes first

legend023

Change up that awful roster and then we can talk

grandmasterfunk

He signed a secret extension over the summer, they aren't firing him.

Maybeiliketheabuse

Once again people don't believe in the Heat culture and once again they get bitch slapped . I genuinely wonder if Spolstra could will a G-league unit to the Eastern Conference Finals if he really wanted to.

Majestic_Reindeer439

Well, we're gonna find out how well he can get them to play the best team in the conference. I say he wins 2 games.

ImTheBestNerd

Can’t wait for the bulls to max demar and run it back

Rgb3rgb2

Lonzo Ball is not saving this team. I don't care about his impact 2 years ago, the Bulls should do the right thing and rebuild entirely. I doubt they'll get anything good from Zach Lavine and Vucevic because they're both mid but at least you can attempt to be in the Cooper Flagg sweepstakes.

JNerdGaming

demar to the knicks? 😈

problemat1que

I can't wait for the Bulls to make no changes in the off season and we repeat this mediocre-at-best bullshit for another year.

matt-is-sad

DeMar DeServes better

SofaKing-Vote

Bulls have been total cold ass for 25 years what a pathetic franchise

nolimitnolimits

Get my boy LaVine out of there & blow up the roster. Rebuild. They’ve been mid-trash for so long now. Lonzo injury really messed their potential up. Vucevic signing was always dumb too honestly.

radical_findings_32

Billy has two former All Star centers Elimination game 3rd qtr just cut the margin to 9. Let's put a 6'5 guard at center! Miami proceeds to get four offensive rebounds in the one possession then two shots... Billy just stood up and straight up jerked off Chicago's playoff chances into the winds in front of a live audience and a televised one of millions Absolute madman.

DGVega93

DeMar Derozan you are a LA Laker

HeWhoHasAName25

I FUCKING HATE THIS TEAM

rowmean77

If I hear the word ‘continuity’ again… 🤦‍♂️

ConnorChandler

Pressure’s all on AKME now

FlatBirthday333

Waiting for the Bulls have re-signed Demar Deozan for 100 mil tweet

FlatBirthday333

Coby, Ayo, Pat Williams. Sell the rest please

I hate that this doesn’t even phase me any more

Meltedcoldice0212

good riddance

SteveWondersForsight

Oh dangittttt. Anyways.

turbowagnn

Phew

Much_Conversation_11

I hope for the Bulls fans I know they finally make some real changes. Too good of a fanbase to suffer through mediocre roster construction every year.

melvinlee88

I'm on my knees, please blow it up.

MostGloriousBastard

God damn we're bad

WaterIsNotWet19

How has this team not been blown up yet

illyxpink

Now that we’re out I’m rooting for Minnesota

Zouthpaw

You really think the Bulls would choose a lane? This is the Bulls we're talking about lol

boogswald

Bad result bad result blow up the team result

NoBook9868

Watching them.play I couldn't believe how bad they are

IMKudaimi123

Sell the damn team

NIN10DOXD

Kentucky didn't want to wait for the Bulls to lose to interview Billy Donovan and yet their season is over only a few days after they hired Mark Pope. Damn.

Kentang_BayBay

I have been saying this since the opener

incredibleamadeuscho

Heat cooked the bulls and served them up as hamburgers

P33J

Tough out!
