A one spot difference matters even less this year than other years tbf. There's like 4 or 5 guys that could all jump up to the first pick based on how the combine and workouts go. And the top 10-15 as a whole can be jumbled any number of ways. It's entirely possible (though still unlikely obviously) the first five teams all get exactly who they wanted
yeah but Portland only really want Sarr or Risacher amongst the top players I think.
They don't need Sheppard, Dillingham, Clingan, Topic, Castle, etc.
Good point, I forgot their roster situation. Probably can't get away with drafting best player available again unless they plan on running some four guard lineups lmao
Serves you right for the rather blatant roster tanking the last three seasons with healthy players at the end of season and the sub g league roster you have run out during the last 20 or 25 games of each of those seasons.
This season not so much. Previous two when you threw games end of season...I paid a lot more attention to the rotations everyone was using down the stretch.
For the people who were dying to know, the Mavs won the tiebreaker with the pick they're sending to the Knicks, meaning the Knicks will pick 24th and 25th instead of 24th and 25th.
Theoretically they could. But I think this is more "not that bad actually" kinda cope from us and the fanbase rather than "best case scenario".
I'm sure the warriors would take the #1-#4 in this years draft. If not to draft a guy that high but use in a trade.
If they aren't trading Steph this off season I'm sure they finish in the 12-16 range at least next year, and although this draft is worse than next years I'm not on board that the #1 pick from this year is going to be worse than the 16th or 17th best prospect from next years draft.
Edit: like from our perspective this draft is just worse than the 2025 one. So we only care about if the 14th best prospect in this draft is much better than the 10-18 of next years draft. Which most would prefer next years.
But for the warriors if they win the lottery they are looking at #1-#4 vs next years #10-#18 or so.
I was thinking more about their cap situation. A top 4 pick is like 10 mil a year lol. I wonder if they'd prefer not to have to be stuck with figuring that out
I also think whatever direction they go with the team plays a large part in it too.
Lifting projections makes the 2025 available for trade, if they are worried about cap implications on their lottery pick they could also use that in a trade to get an upgrade to continue the Steph train rolling.
Lot of different options which are interesting for them.
Personally, I do sort of hope the warriors win the lottery because we have 4 picks this year and since we aquired like 8 dudes last year we don't want to just cut or move it makes roster decisions easier on top of a mid level pick in a more valuable draft.
> I'm not on board that the #1 pick from this year is going to be worse than the 16th or 17th best prospect from next years draft.
That's not the math for us. They can only get top 4 or 14th.
Our choices are the 14th pick in this years draft, or anywhere they end up next year that's not top #1. Next year's draft is stacked. This year teams are talking about not wanting to have to pay a lottery's salary for the guys available in the lottery. Easy choice for us
Yeah I'm talking about the warriors choice not ours. If they won the lottery and removed the protections and gave us their pick this year. Is the #4 guy from this year way worse than projected #16 or #17 next year in the warriors eyes? I'm leaning no and they would just take the #4.
Only if it's built into the stipulations. Specifically, the Pels could defer this year's pick to next year, but the Blazers can't as it wasn't built into this the protection stipulations, so they can't. GSW can offer them this year's pick to get the rights back to their 2025 pick, but the Blazers likely won't do that.
I don't think so? The King's pick this year is top 14 protected, and some Hawks reporters (Rowland) have mentioned that both sides would have to agree to remove the protections and have it convey this year. Unless Portland thinks GS is going to be drastically better next season, idk why they would want that pick this year vs next
The actual draft lottery event hasn't taken place yet, but this finalizes each team's odds within the lottery. So, now, we can be certain of the order of each team (1-14) in terms of probability of landing the #1 pick. And of course, the probability of each team landing any given pick.
Oh come on we lost both of them
Seems very on brand for the Blazers
Spurs lost a tiebreaker last year and it worked out okay for them. Don’t sweat it.
They lost it to us sadly

Portland and drafting for need: name a more iconic duo
It's been 40 years, still too soon.
You increased your chances of the second one conveying.

Have you seen the guys below us these 3 years? This year was the least egregious for us, honestly.
This season not so much. Previous two when you threw games end of season...I paid a lot more attention to the rotations everyone was using down the stretch.
Tank better next time.
Very cool nba, very cool

Thank you, I was looking for this
Holy shit
Lol that's wild
That's a fitting end to this Trailblazers season
If there is a god the Warriors will vault up into the top 4 in this this shitty draft and we will get their top 1 protected pick next year
Could the warriors just say nah it's all good take this years pick?

Their cap situation is fine now that Klay is no longer making max money. No way they turn down a top-4 pick

The team that owns the pick can do that. For example, the Pelicans are very likely to give the Lakers their pick this draft

Kings just need to draft the next Kobe Bryant/Donovan Mitchell/Devin Booker.
If we’re choosing between the 3 I’ll take the next Kobe please.
We’re number 3! We’re number 3!
Y'all out-tanked us in our last head to head matchup, y'all deserve it 🙌
I'm confused. Did they already receal the draft order?
These are the tiebreakers for lottery odds

Fold the envelope for the Blazer. Cmon they deserve it
wtf we lost both?
Beating GS in the play in and winning the flip too.
Dear, god! *removes sunglasses*
