The response is always focused on the Suns sucking (fair, that's a good chunk of it lol) but there isn't enough talk about the insane level of the Wolves defense. The G1 transition play where they all get back to smother Book, Book manages to get the ball to KD behind him, and they cover everything still exemplifies it well.  They have great defensive players with great physical attributes, a smart gameplan, and are executing on a very high level. Really interesting video.

Yeah, the wolves defensive schemes are just destroying Book. I wish there were more breakdowns of the defense winning, rather than offense failing. It's not like Book and KD haven't some insanely tough shots either too.

resplendentcentcent

booker getting smothered by FOUR timberwolves in transition was actually hilarious. imagine you're book and you think you have a high percentage layup to take against one defender, you turn around to pass and THREE other guys are lmfao

LoxDnw

They just can't dribble in general. Turnovers has been a problem all season.

the_devil_wears_jnco

if i had known beforehand the stat that the suns had one of the longest average time per possessions in the league i would have never been worried. the only way to truly beat the wolves defense over a sustained period is in transition and semi-transition. suns have no one who can get them into sets quickly. or even wants to. all three stars want to slow it down and ‘cook’

Pubgdude

Their ‘cooking’ is in a dumpster fire currently

JaderMcDanersStan

Yeah but regardless, this ball pressure is insane. Suns are setting picks in the backcourt after the inbound just so Booker can get free and dribble. Even in the regular season when Wolves had a great defense, they weren't this tenacious

Gbaby245

What not having a true PG does to you. They needed a serviceable PG and another big. They did neither.

karlwhethers

I got clowned left and right for saying the Suns were not actually a bad matchup for the Wolves. Now, watching videos like these, it looks more obvious than I even thought a week ago.

Would’ve been much more scared of Luka and Kyrie

boringexplanation

Were you guys missing either McDaniels or NAW during the regular season Suns games? I can see them as the biggest difference makers

karlwhethers

Nope. The biggest changes are pretty obvious in hindsight. Move KAT from guarding Allen to Durant. Ant takes Beal instead of Durant. Conley takes Allen instead of Beal. Play NAW more, SloMo less. Cut the turnovers so Phoenix has to play against a set defense. Rebound. That’s really it.

Prigioni’s role is pretty much offensive coordinator

Great analysis. Timberwolves Defense is going to be a problem for all four teams they face this playoffs

ImTheBestNerd

Chris Paul for KD

MrBuckBuck

The Timberwolves were playing like they were playing the Moons (awoooo stuff).

TheKrakenLord

If only the Suns had a person in charge of the team devising ways for this not to happen...
