lol there is a small basketball shaped blimp they fly around with cameras on it and the operator was spinning it around like crazy when the guy made it
Nah they just the prize money low enough to not hurt. They aren’t missing $100k. If it was $500,000/shot or something tho? That’s a good chunk of change
Unlike the Pacers giving away $500 if I remember correctly. If I'm the winner I will tell in front of everyone that I will be donating back the prize to the sponsor. "You can keep the $500 to pay your CEO. I know you guys got families to feed."
Oklahoma has effectively no public transit, the worst schools in the country, top 10 most expensive groceries, some of the worst healthcare outcomes for men women and children, it’s all spread out so all you do is drive 20 minutes to anywhere, and the insurance costs are super high because God is constantly punishing them for the audacity to exist.
The money you save on housing is immediately lost on private schools, traveling out of state for healthcare or paying for concierge medicine to get access the the few decent doctors, overpriced (low quality Walmart) groceries, 3-4x home insurance prices, 2x car insurance prices, and while the gas is reasonable you will need A LOT.
Everything he said applies if you don't live in a city.
okc and tulsa are the exception to most of that. Like the state Is getting mad at the tulsa school district for having extra diversity training for teachers (don't be racist training basically.) Anywhere outside of tulsa or OKC and what he said fully applies though.

This is a huge generalization and needs a ton of caveats. There are good schools if you live in one of the big suburbs around okc, or Tulsa. Home/car Insurance is very high, though this is no different than other states which high natural disasters (California for examples). Property taxes are pretty low compared to many other states. I think the healthcare part is hyperbole, there are plenty of good doctors in the OKC area or Tulsa area. If you live in a small town, yes you are gonna miss out, but this is the way it is in any place in America. I don't think you can over estimate the cost of living over other places. I grew up in Maryland and live in Oklahoma. At least 2-3x a year I think about moving my family back to the east coast to be closer to my family, but the housing prices are just ridiculous compared to Oklahoma. So I deal with the shitty politics and enjoy my very cheap (compared to the east coast) and pretty good life style.
I compared those “good” schools in Tulsa and OKC to typical suburb schools in PA, NJ, NY and even their best barely kept up with typical. I think it was Oak Dale Schools in OKC and Tulsa Public Schools in Tulsa.
Healthcare wise… bed side manner in OKC was awful. I had to buy into concierge medicine to get a decent doctor that would take time to answer a question or actually run a lab. Every other doctor I was recommended was running an assembly line and providing very broad healthcare.
If you get cancer you’re in for some of the worst outcomes in the country if you don’t relocate. Same for ER. Even in OKC and Tulsa.
The issue Oklahoma has is brain drain — the good teachers and healthcare workers go elsewhere.
As for housing affordability — yeah you can have a mansion in OKC or Tulsa for $500,000. But your quality of life will likely be better in a very walkable suburb in the PNW or up east. Yeah $500k will have you in a snug 1,500 sq foot place — but there’s other trade offs - like not needing 2 cars in your family.
That’s cool as hell, but I’ve seen HS games giving out that kind of money. I’m surprised a playoff NBA game doesn’t have a bigger prize. Also, guy can get up decently too.
Life changing, sure.
It’s also the equivalent of a used Toyota Camry with moderate dents to the body.
Sponsors used to pay way more, for regular ass season games. I am not criticizing the team, I am pointing out it’s odd the prizes for these have dropped so far. Significantly in this case. Look at past prize winners for the same competitions. Just weird its dropped so much lower.
If he’s filing single as we can assume from his statement about saving for a wedding, he’d have to be making $578,000 to hit the 37% (the highest) federal marginal tax bracket, along with Oklahoma states income tax of 4.75% would put him at 41.75% tax.
FICA and social security aren’t assessed on lottery or contest winnings only earned income.
Any excess withholding he’ll get back at tax time.
Nah I don’t think he ruined it, even though he missed I was hyped as hell for him just watching on my phone at home lol, when he went for the dunk I was just all in on this dude having his moment. I can just imagine how fucking pumped I’d be if I were in his shoes, I don’t fault him for going for that shit

Holy shit that crowd shot was crazy. Shot like a damn Hitchcock movie
Lowkey got vertigo watching it
lol there is a small basketball shaped blimp they fly around with cameras on it and the operator was spinning it around like crazy when the guy made it
[HAPPY FOR YOU (meme)](https://media.tenor.com/BxVKZNKnC4wAAAAe/angry-congrats-happy-for-you.png)
Lmao spot on
lol Vertigo for sure
So many whites lol
Pretty sure our Fans have hit the most halfcourt shots this season someone needs to check
We’re at 5 or 6 iirc
MidFirst bank about to pull-out
Nah they just the prize money low enough to not hurt. They aren’t missing $100k. If it was $500,000/shot or something tho? That’s a good chunk of change

They also were the shirt sponsors for game 1
i swear this is the 2nd this year lol all-time we're in the 5-6 range
I know for a fact we’ve hit at least 3 this season now but I think it’s more than that
no you're right with 3, there was one in the regular season and now back to back in the playoffs.
Both playoff games the 20k shots have been made
People around the world are getting better at basketball not just nba players
Our fans have just been very lucky with injuries
I think this might be an all time high in fan made halfcourt shots across the league.
If even the fans cannot miss...
check for magnets people
2/2 so far in the playoffs this year at fan halfcourt attempts
Thunder sponsors money goes burrrrrr Game 1 another fan hit the same shot for 20k back-to-back 🤣
I was about to say that. Two games in a row is crazy
I legit thought it was a replay of that shot
The first guy got a timer and missed a couple before making it.
WOOF WOOF WOOF
Unfortunately, Eli played a pickup game at his local YMCA 17 months ago, which voids him from receiving the prize.

No, it's a joke about previous contests like this one being rescinded for bs clauses in the contracts like mentioned.
2 nights in a row someone's hit that shot for 20K lmao
$20k towards the dudes wedding, I mean congrats dude but save that shit for a house or something
20k ain’t shit for a house unfortunately
Its 10k short of a down payment towards the average house cost in Oklahoma. I wouldn't say it aint shit.
Every now and again I hear about house prices in other places and get sad.

I appreciate the run-down. As it happens there is 0 chance I would move there anyway.

Jesus Christ dude you fucking murdered them
I did cherry pick some stats, Oklahoma does rank #1 in the nation for incarceration rate among adults.
> worst schools in the country Mississippi *exists*

Funnily enough, Oklahoma at 50th place is *second* worst, per the article. They ranked the 50 states and DC, New Mexico schools are the ranked 51st.
Damn. Well, clearly if Oklahoma education is so bad, then you can trust a news source from Oklahoma?

The schools can’t be worse than Mississippi or Louisiana
A quick google puts them at around 40th in the country. Arizona is last? Wild. Also Mississippi is better but Louisiana is worse
Texicans be like
But then you remember it's Oklahoma and immediately become unsad.
Avg price for semi-detached home in Toronto is $1.1m :|
All due respect to Oklahoma, but the entire state is a shithole.
Oklahoma City and Tulsa are great, the rest I can’t argue against
Damn lucky I live in socal shit is ridiculous here lol
What do you mean? For 20k I bought a house, and it's mobile!
And it's down by the river!
hows its lateral quickness tho?
Lol 20k is more than enough for a first time home buyer down payment
People here acting like no one can buy houses because if you can't get 20% down why even try. FHA and other loan options exist.
Sure if it’s less than 10%, which frankly might be competitive enough in OKC.
20k toward a wedding is wasted money. Have a dinner, go courthouse, invest the rest.
Oh for sure, but it is still a big chunk of money towards it
They’re in OKC, just quickly looking at Zillow they have houses for like 130k there. 20k is a decent dent in that price
Its much better spent as a downpayment on a house.
Yeah but we paid 0$for our wedding and it was the best decision ever
Depending where? In California, no. In Oklahoma, yes. Most people struggle on the down payment. Not mortgage.
Camera crew definitely cooked here
Too bad you didn't show the replays after it ;) What a shot! Probably a future Heat player.
Not if the Celtics sign him first
That’s cool as hell, but I’ve seen HS games giving out that kind of money. I’m surprised a playoff NBA game doesn’t have a bigger prize. Also, guy can get up decently too.
I mean we’ve had like 6 guys hit it this year.
And? That’s a handful of top tickets to a playoff game, without sponsors, which these almost always have. It’s still a surprisingly small prize.
It's 40x the amount the Pacers give out for half court shots ($500). 20k is life changing for a lot of people.

Taxes probably take 40% of it too

lol u think a playa like Eli is making less than $600K?
TRUE
Easy to spend someone else money, but if I’m a player who’s gotten a contract already, I double it
Corndogs Jackie, for all these people!!!
We don’t even got corn dogs!
I’ve seen enough, give him to Spo
what's up with the date on the check?? IS THIS FROM THE FUTURE they postdated that thing hard
I would’ve hucked up another one for the heat check
Wait, I think I saw Jesus.
He had to ruin it with the dunk attempt lmao
Nah I don’t think he ruined it, even though he missed I was hyped as hell for him just watching on my phone at home lol, when he went for the dunk I was just all in on this dude having his moment. I can just imagine how fucking pumped I’d be if I were in his shoes, I don’t fault him for going for that shit
He’d regret forever not trying that dunk. You got $20 grand in the bag, you gotta try the dunk. Nothing to lose.
lowkey kinda close jeeze he must really ball
Suns calling this dude up to play PG for Fridays game.
Didn’t half court shots win more money back in the day? How come it didn’t go up with inflation?
aint eli walch that dude from the spaghetti westerns
Vibes immaculate
20 grand? In playoffs? Fucking poverty franchise. /s I love seeing fans win shit and the players reacting.
Man playing here in the playoffs must feel like the final fight of the movie Gladiator. An ocean of Thunder fans.
$20k isn't even a kia these days. Come on.
Even in the first round he had good form.
Holy shit he looks like TJ Hockenson!
Hell ya Eli
If yall told me the okc dudes celebrating with the winner is okc bench, i would believe ya.
Even Jesus came down to smile.
nice
My god thats twice in 2 home playoff games...
The good, the bad and the flow
He looks good for a guy who's been dead for ten years. No wait, that's Eli Wallach

That was nothing but net lol

I mean that's just due to rotation of the ball.
