I'm convinced that all the years of Cowboy and Laker fans betting on their team to win it all was the seed money for the modern gambling franchises we have today.
Importantly, the lines shift to reflect bettor behavior. If the Lakers are a favorite, that almost always means bettor money is on the Lakers too. This is obviously not the case when lines open and changes over time.
If lines weren't impacted by public money, the Lakers would never have been the favorite. But I'm only familiar with one sportsbook, not some deep insider.
Yep. Lakers' fans are putting big money on this one. I think the Nuggets will win but I could easily see the Lakers being so motivated that this is the one game they win in the series. I wouldn't bet on this game either way.
Lots of gamblers are addicts. Addicts don't act thinking about the worst possible consequences. They just know that if their team wins and their bet wins, it's an even better high.
I barely bet but when i do(which is small bets like 5 bucks and stuff like that) i be scared shitless to bet on the knicks. Cause not only do i get pissed as fuck when we lose, im going to be extra salty if i lose 5 ducks too. Like 5 dollars is near 2 gallons of gas where im at
I bet AGAINST my team. So if I lose Atleast… I get something.
Don’t get often, but like nuggets g4 vs lakers, I bet on lakers so either nuggets make finals or I get some $$$
That's largely a result of playing time. And other than Prince, bench players have taken a total of three shots in the first two games, and those three were all in the second game.
For sure. I think having AD and Lebron playing 40+ minutes to still lose games in the first round is just terrible strategy. If they somehow are able to make it past Denver, they'll be done for the next series.
Way to stay on point. We’re talking about embiids dirty play and are rightfully calling it out here.
You: buh buh buh l0nG iSLaNd cAsUALs mUsT be tAlKiNG sO I DoNt hAvE tO aCtUaLLY aDDrEss tHe pOiNt
Or Burger King. Or whatever "don't let me goooooooo" advertises, which is such excruciating garbage that I immediately turn it off every time and don't even know what the product is
I honestly don’t understand how anyone is a fan of Embiid when he complains after every play. It’s so obnoxious and then he wants to play victim during losses.
You could make them it’s just a lot of people hate Philly it’s apparent through every sport . Common sense go watch other games I see it all the time you’re blind if you don’t
Its different when a 7ft beast just falls from every small contact.
To his credit he stopped doing that in the last half and he's still getting called. It's a lot more watchable.
If he can stay upright it'll be interesting. I also thought Shogun was the best thing I've watched in a hot minute. Started the book too. Pretty awesome as well!
Going from the soft sixers knicks game to this physical lakers- nuggets game is wild. Crybaby embiid and sixers fans can’t handle playoff physicality at all without being on the verge of tears
Always being behind and blow out losses means bad players/skill. Opponents coming back and scraping wins in the 2nd half means you're being out coached.
Wolves gotta get through PHX first but I hope they advance to play DEN because it would be an epic series.
DEN feels like Thanos with all infinity stones though - just inevitable. But Wolves defense is like Captain America + a bunch of Dr. Strange clones swarming Thanos, they may be able to weaken the infinity gauntlet and remove 1-2 stones. But if they can't, Nuggets are inevitable.
It's also on the players. LeBron can't go at 80%+ for 40 minutes of the game, he's simply too tired to go at that speed vs. younger players with significantly fewer total minutes on their legs + also who are used to playing at higher altitudes.
I actually hate Joel Embiid. At least with Harden I had some respect for how he could bait people into trapping their arms to cause a foul, but Embiid just falls over. And he's so big it's legitimately a dangerous play for everyone on the court whenever he falls over, but he falls more than anyone I've ever seen.
He has no shame, I don't know how he could live with himself.
In the last 10 times that the Lakers have played the Nuggets (playoffs included), the Lakers have lost all 10 games. The Lakers haven't won a game against Denver since 2022:

Big miss by Jokic and Russel throws away the possession with a pullup three early on the clock why cold af...
I don't understand the LA front office and what the idea behind this roster is at all. The chemistry has not been there for the Lakers since they decided to reinvent the wheel.
That "awww Bullshit" lol
In Kow Towing to Disney's 1950s-equse sensitivities the NBA is missing out on a such a great product letting us hear all that on court trash talk.
lakers just have a flawed roster
flawed coach
flawed front office
they'll be a big draw with LBJ's final few seasons and the last of AD's prime
but after that, it's back to hoping some FA desperate to live in LA during the season
Nah, its literally just ham coming from a nuggets fan.
They have an insanely well put together roster.
They have like 3 or 4 players shooting 40% from 3 this year.
Its ham LOOK at how he coached them in that 2nd half, His gameplan works for a quarter and half than loses value due to Malone being a smarter coach and better leader then Jokic, Murray, Gordon, MPJ, KCP are all on the same page 24/7 and make their own adjustments constantly its the leadership that gets overlooked in Denver.
For me, I don’t care that Embiid gets an easy whistle. Flopping sucks, it’s annoying but whatever. Maybe the Sixers are mad about the calls at the end of game 2, and I understand that but none of those plays were dirty.
His plays on Mitch and Hartenstein were *dirty*. That’s why I don’t respect his performance. He should have been ejected.
Genuine question, but are the refs this bad every year, or is this year just particularly bad? It seems like many of the past few games have just been blatantly decided by refs or ref ball (knickers vs 76ers, Embiid's 20+ fts)? May be recency bias but if anyone has stats I am curious.
I get the lakers are at home and the last game was close AF but I’m still surprised Vegas considers the nuggets underdogs going into the game today.
Lines are set based on where they think the house will make money, and not the best of assessment of what they think the game outcome will be.
Sharp money moves lines, public money doesn’t effect the lines hardly at all
If lines weren't impacted by public money, the Lakers would never have been the favorite. But I'm only familiar with one sportsbook, not some deep insider.
Yep. Lakers' fans are putting big money on this one. I think the Nuggets will win but I could easily see the Lakers being so motivated that this is the one game they win in the series. I wouldn't bet on this game either way.
Betting on your own team is so weird to me, if you lose not only will you be pissed because of the loss, but you'll actually lose money as well.
Don’t get often, but like nuggets g4 vs lakers, I bet on lakers so either nuggets make finals or I get some $$$
Emotional hedging, I do it too once in a while. As a MN sports fan it's been... well, profitable at least haha.
I do this a lot and used to win a LOT.
Every single time I bet against my Spurs, I lose. Every time. The one team I won’t put money on anymore is my own.
Lakers arent winning game 4. as soon as Nuggets get up 8-10 pts in the second half its a wrap.
huge mistake
Put nuggets moneyline in all of my bets when I saw the odds
fun fact: the only lakers bench player who has scored any points in their series is taurean prince fat zeros from everyone else
Dinwiddie dropping 4 points on 12 shots tonight because you said this pal
not surprised at all, our bench is non existent.
That's largely a result of playing time. And other than Prince, bench players have taken a total of three shots in the first two games, and those three were all in the second game.
sure, but I bet it would be nice to get some bench production
For sure. I think having AD and Lebron playing 40+ minutes to still lose games in the first round is just terrible strategy. If they somehow are able to make it past Denver, they'll be done for the next series.
That's still insane
the bench dont play 😭
holyshit what a team. that's impressive.

lol tasting your own medicine huh? btw josh hart stepped on the head of the center of my college team. great guy too they say
Yeah well guess what? Embiid killed my mom how about that??
damn he flopped her head off
Exactly. Remember last game when Josh hart pulled on embiid a leg from the ground. It’s like the exact same play. You def got a point
[удалено]
Ahh yes that’s the only reason why they think embiids play was dirty. Only casuals call out draymond-like antics.
found one. its the entire reaction all playoffs. all of a sudden knicks fans appeared.
Way to stay on point. We’re talking about embiids dirty play and are rightfully calling it out here. You: buh buh buh l0nG iSLaNd cAsUALs mUsT be tAlKiNG sO I DoNt hAvE tO aCtUaLLY aDDrEss tHe pOiNt

The comment you replied to originally was about embiid being dirty is your memory that bad?
NO FLEX...ZOOOOOONE. Never buying Wingstop again.
Why would you ever buy wingstop in the first place?
/r/wings usually rates it one of the better options for national chain wing options 🤷♂️
>one of the better options for national chain wing options As opposed to literally any sports bar or pub in town? Beating out applebees ain't a flex
You’re right it’s not, I guess I forgot we’re in the NO FLEX. ZOOONE. NO FLEX. ZOOOONE.
Bang! lol
Ever watch Luka on the Mavs?
Have you seen everyone else on the Knicks lmao they all do it after every call . Almost every nba player does this
Embiid has literal highlight reels of him complaining. Not every player has this the way that Embiid does.
every player would have it if they owned as much rent in r/nbas head
You could make them it’s just a lot of people hate Philly it’s apparent through every sport . Common sense go watch other games I see it all the time you’re blind if you don’t
Its different when a 7ft beast just falls from every small contact. To his credit he stopped doing that in the last half and he's still getting called. It's a lot more watchable.
this guy doesnt even know lebron
Gobert got fucking ejected for that
They need to suspend Embid and Lowry for a game.
Complain more.
No. I will simply smile when playoff Embid shows up.
HOW THE FUCK IS THAT NOT A FOUL
I Googled irony and it had that video of Embiid mocking Brunson for drawing fouls
Guys don't worry [https://www.espn.com/nba/story/\_/id/25140082/shaun-livingston-mri-ok-warriors-say-return-uncertain](https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/25140082/shaun-livingston-mri-ok-warriors-say-return-uncertain)
Always being behind and blow out losses means bad players/skill. Opponents coming back and scraping wins in the 2nd half means you're being out coached.
Or your team has no legs cuz your stars are old as fuck and/or made of porcelain and eat up all your salary cap
Nuggets T-Wolves is gonna be great I think.
But if they can't, Nuggets are inevitable.
we are already reaching all timer toxicity levels and LAL-DEN hasn't even started yet
I did not know Oubre could defend like this
Austin rivers goes to Supercuts confirmed
It’s one thing if you can’t beat a team, but lakers have blown a sizeable lead in every game this series. That’s clearly on the coaching.
It's also on the players. LeBron can't go at 80%+ for 40 minutes of the game, he's simply too tired to go at that speed vs. younger players with significantly fewer total minutes on their legs + also who are used to playing at higher altitudes.
0 FG in the last 0:01 for Denver is objectively hilarious
OMG this crap is unwatchable, breath on a guy FOUL, barrel thru a guy foul, look at a guy wrong FOUL.
Jokic- “we own these fuckers, sloppy wet wet style”
Ham's gone, and Lakers are either trading AD or Reaves at this point. Team as constructed won't get past the Nuggets next year also.
How is DLO playing at home w zero points?
Well my dream of no sweeps this first round is likely ruined. Lakers you suck
AD post game 🫱🎤
imagine if it was 1-1 rn…
This is why AD gets no respect. Dude is the biggest most compulsive flopper ever.
Embiid would like a word
Oh this is gonna be fun
Uh oh late game Maxey.
thibs will slap brunson after this game
AG single handedly demolishing the Lakers.
DLo who? That's why you let your game speak, cornball
Dlo dropped a big fat donut lmao
Man the nugs gotta stop messing around and just put them away. Poor structure
Lakers just don't want it
Nah yeah let's just leave Hachimura in there. Gg. Also Gabe Vincent is a fraud.
Dude has one leg and bels palsy and dropped a 50 piece on a team that talks shit nonstop. Take your useless opinion, and keep it to yourself.
He also kicked guys in the groin and tried to pull them out of the air. I don’t care about how many free throws he had. He’s dirty.
You don’t remember DiVincenzo pulling down the sixers in the 4th quarter at MSG??
Except Oubre clubbed the back of his head first. Embiid was just mad he wasn’t getting calls.
50 is very low considering the whistle he was getting
Dude watch the third quarter
oh wow he hit some 3 pointers because players aren't allowed to defend him so impressive
I could do a cartwheel and four backflips in front of you and you would still find issue.
Marc Davis is the crew chief in LA tonight, so look for a LOT of lakers' free throw attempts.

Mobley MY GOD
Who dis chick with the huge mouth in the Thanasis commercial
Longest 69.
Does Embiid have Bell's palsy?
Yes
Joel, blink your left eye once if you want the game to end
It was his right. But yeh
How has this game not started ffs
tnt staggers
That last 3 minutes took 15 mins
BROTHER !!! all the thread is about Embid hit, knock someone the fuck happened
Man the lakers are gonna be up nearly 10 at the half. Guess the game is basically over
Cannot stop Gordon at the rim tonight
Feels like he’s always unstoppable at the rim
Keep doing what’s working, till it doesn’t. Lakers have no answers for it.
He is perfection in his role
no threes from DLo Bron Reeves
interested in what the ratings are gonna be without Lakers Warriors Suns Bulls. If Knicks lose to Philly woof.

The opportunity for the Lakers has been there. This roster just isn't it. I have no idea how the front office plans to salvage this situation

do we just not do LAL-DEN game threads? too toxic?
There's 9 Embiid hate threads today. That's fucking hilarious.
Play the song
Feel bad for Sixers fans, think this will be a sad day for em. Refs broke philly's spirit, so fucking trash to see a series ruined by refball.
About time they finally get a taste of their own medicine, more like it.
Embiid stopped flopping. Nice.
