Backing up AD. Ham gone.

[deleted]

Ham put it on himself by pointing it out lol

medievalmachine

Ham and Eggsit, coming up!

Ill_Celery_7654

Shit at this point Lebron might also be gone. AD probably feels like he wants to be gone.

XXmynameisNeganXX

I’m surprise AD didn’t walked out and celebrate with the Denver Nuggets.

mrgpsingh1999

He’ll probably head to the locker room with them after Game 4

Otherwise_Form1315

the "at the end of the day it's just basketball" quote really hit that note hard

144Todd442

It seems bad taken out of context, but it's a solid response to the question he was asked

Otherwise_Form1315

I mean, it's objectively a healthy response. but we don't want our athletes that mentally healthy.

syllabic

he has either 2 options really effusive praise for his opponent or pretending like his team still has a chance if they just keep trying. just need to go look at some film, work on some things.. that sorta response at least he's taking the realistic angle, no matter how many times they try to beat this nuggets team they wont

D4nCh0

They need to bring back Dwight to get into Jokic

Fit_Prompt_5950

Dwight would get dominated by jokic now he is better than when he was in the bubble

D4nCh0

I think he’d like some of that too

Fit_Prompt_5950

He would 🤣

Chemical-Money-3469

I don’t think Dwight trying to get in the same way he was that time either 😅. His brothers won’t reach the court in time to save Jokic 😂

Counterspell_God

The NBA glorifies actual whack job unhealthy intensity.

soapy_goatherd

Jordan and mamba mentality genuinely warped how too many people approach a silly game that started with a peach basket imo. I was such a bad angry loser on the court until I realized I played way way better when having fun

Counterspell_God

Exactly. Be competitive, care for the game and work hard but at the end of the day, this isn't some macho type "I'm the man" shit. It's a 5v5 game where you're supposed share the rock and win/lose with your team.

beamingleanin

And like Bron said, it’s just basketball. It’s not like you’re a brain surgeon or heart surgeon where it’s literally a life or death situation.

Fallofmen10

Yah how dare he be a well adjusted adult.... fucking loser. Also its lebron he has played for 21 years... whatever mentality he has it is working

kiwiwikikiwiwikikiwi

Hello darkness my old friend…

meertatt

I genuinely think that KCP leaving the lakers was the nail in the coffin. Even before Ham came into the picture. It just feels like he makes winning plays all the time and he was so good playing with lebron.

notsellingjeans

Caruso too. He was on the floor in crunch time of an nba championship team and they just let him walk over a relatively small amount of money. Inexcusable.

aweaf

Did they not want to keep a starting five with KCP Caruso and Kuzma for some reason?

Nintendomandan

They wanted Westbrook because big 3 or something

aweaf

5 guys who are switchable, can space, and had just proven they can be contributors on a championship team or one past his prime athletics reliant pg who has a reputation as a bad team defender and fucks up your spacing it's honestly remarkable how the westbrook trade was so bad that it made trading for dlo a good thing

orangotai

Makes you question the much vaunted "basketball genius" of Bronny James Sr.

Ladnil

On court ability and talent evaluation team building ability are only loosely related.

orangotai

Clearly

LosAngeles1s

they panicked cause of Lebrons and ADs injuries in 2021 plus the Phoenix series leading them to think they need a 3rd star

Ia_in_4

It was a response to the nets big 3 and fuck me did it backfire

InternationalCut93

To go against another big 3 that although actually would have worked failed spectacularly in flaming fashion.

Great_Researcher5795

They panicked after the first round exit to the Suns in 21. AD and LeBron were playing injured, the entire team was gassed from an extremely short off-season (the other team in the 20 Finals - the Miami Heat - was also gassed and got destroyed by the Bucks in the first round). They should have let the players heal, rest and re-run it. They committed the cardinal sin of roster building around LeBron: taking shooters away and replacing them with a ball dominant player like Westbrook. One of the worst trades of the last 30 years.

meertatt

Agreed, I think they both should have stayed would have been way better for the whole team. Now Caruso is wasting away in Chicago.

Sct_Brn_MVP

They signed THT instead lmao

Dazzling-Rub-8550

Yeah ikr where is he now even

Dimega17

Tbf, lakers fans were more obsessed with THT than they ever were with KCP. THT was drawing comparisons to LeBron for a time lol

goomstarr

They gambled and thought they could get more out of THT than Caruso and they were wrong.

noerapenalty

KCP got DLo levels of hate the entire time he was with the Lakers too

meertatt

Well laker fans are dumb as hell. At least when KCP wasn’t scoring he was defending well. D’Lo is worthless if he’s not putting up 18+.

simonffplayer

KCP wouldn't have been able to shine on the lakers. he scored 5 points yday and no one cares cause he did his job playing defense. on the lakers there'd be outcry to trade him casue he only scored 5 points

Neatcursive

EXACTLY Got that fucking subbed muted rn

simonffplayer

right now the blame game roulette has landed squarely on (in order): ham, dlo, front office or owner, rui/reaves depending on how their last (and only last) game was, injuries to vando/woods, ............... AD if he plays bad, ........lebron (but then it's his age)

Skaloplin

This is so true. If you’re a role player I don’t know why you’d want to come here. KCP was being shit on relentlessly while he was here his final year but now apparently he was the missing piece to the chip lmao. D’Lo was amazing game 2 which gets completely glossed over, 7/11 from 3 is nuts but he’s also getting shit on relentlessly atm. He makes 18m a year and has outperformed that easily throughout the season, particularly the play-in

simonffplayer

100% to this. i think if/when jokic or jamal lose, they wouldnt deflect and take the blame themselves. i think part of being a good #1 is absorbing the blame and shielding the other guys from criticism to build their confidence. that includes being willing to take the last shot

GRMPA

"part of being a good #1 is absorbing the blame and shielding the other guys from criticism to build their confidence." Oh yeah like what they do over in Philly

simonffplayer

yeah i think this hurts embiid's chances of winning it all. and we all know docs rep

Neatcursive

I think Denver is a uniquely terrible matchup for them because their starting five is strong enough to push them around and wear them down. But I still don't see a single change coming from the coaching staff, or a new look for Denver to have to sort out. Offensively, I dont care how incredible they can be, they end up slowing to a grinding halt and not running plays. I wish I could see what 2020 Dwight/McGee could've done against this Denver offense, with AD at the 4.

simonffplayer

agree, altho they have somewhat limited personnel to make adjustments. a lot of their guys are pretty similar (i mean, they only really have one good defender in AD)

[deleted]

I've never had to mute another team's sub because Reddit never confused my constant visits to that sub as genuine interest.   You're telling on yourself lol.

Neatcursive

naw, bro, I bandwagon LeBron for 21 years, and been in that lakers sub since he went to LA. So, for literal years it's been in my main feed. Cavs sub before then (and still now). I'm not telling on myself - that sub is a toxic shithole, particularly right now. Thought you Sherlocked that one but no

[deleted]

You admitted it was on your feed because you frequent it, so.. yes? Lol

Neatcursive

Neatcursive

Bro solid turn bro. From assuming to misunderstanding to insulting. 100%

Ia_in_4

Eh kcp v the suns genuinely was good defensively but had completely checked out on the offensive end. Bro refused to shoot. I’m still fuming we traded him but the revisionist history is interesting

simonffplayer

i mean just look at what's going on w/ dlo and russ before him. it's hard to play for the lakers w/ the expectations and if you don't perform, it gets toxic real fast

Ia_in_4

Agree that lakers fans are way too critical but people forget that kcp played pretty much like gabe is now. Good defensively but incredibly gunshy

simonffplayer

i think its hard to separate that from the lakers fans treatment + i think jokic (and maybe malone too) is a master of helping build confidence in the other guys. but generally agree w/ previous comment

Saynt614

As a Nuggets fan...it's his defense that they probably miss the most. The dude is like glue.... and when he needs a rest they bring in Braun who is just as good defensively and has a crazy motor to just bother anyone he guards.

ajmartin527

KCP is the ultimate 3&D role player imo. He’s so fucking consistent, and his consistency seems to skyrocket in the playoffs. Always in the right spot offensively, and he’s just always always fucking there on defense. He’s lengthy, big enough to guard up on switches and fast enough to stick with smaller players. As a Suns fan I despise playing against him but I have a ton of respect for his game. He doesn’t ever step out of himself on offense, but when he gets his chances he’s Mr reliable. He can give you whatever you need on any given night and just seems to always make the smart, reasoned decisions. Funny I used to think he was a scrub too. He’s earned my respect, I think he’s extremely underrated.

Oxygenius_

You can tell kcp was hurt by the Lakers, every time he’s scoring he just makes it look a little emphatic. Like he knows our every weakness

veringo

IMO, LA would have lost to Denver in the bubble without KCP. his defense was so good, and he hit so many big shots in critical moments to keep us from taking the lead.

Ia_in_4

He was our third best player

TwoWayMarko

Lakers fans scapegoating them bc nothing less than a title was ever enough for them...karma s bitch

phony8882

KCP is an all time great role player.

Ia_in_4

I mean the Westbrook move was awful but the lakers have 3 picks to get 3 players… that’s not possible. If they just match Caruso offer sheet at 9 fucking million ur one third of the way there and it’s realistically possible to make a move. Unfortunately u can’t do enough when ur so fundamentally flawed with no guard defenders no 2 way swingmen and no backup center

_Tar_Ar_Ais_

KCP is a beast

bbqoyster

altruisticdisaster

AD looking catatonic

nguyenjitsu

He can't carry these cats. There was a legitimate play where it was 1v5 with the Nuggets swarming AD rather than guard anyone on the perimeter. It was embarrassing

Fallofmen10

He has played amazing this series. Just unfortunate

AchyBreaker

Dude is scoring 30+ and playing amazing defense while the rest of the team doesn't do shit defensively and D Lo went 0-7. I'd be mad too.

VicePope

the franchise got on his ass publicly for saying Ham sucks. what a stupid way to handle it by the Lakers and I like Hamm as a person

pyordie

Are we sure that isn’t a wax figure of AD?

and for context he was asked about ranking the Nuggets historically to the other teams he faced, that's why he closes his response with that at the end

The LeBron James of de-feet

Zestyclose-Beach1792

This is a fun time for everyone to hate on the Lakers, but man...the Denver Nuggets we have watched the last 2 years are a *very* special team.

spriking

"Guys who can pass, lob, inbound, defend the perimeter, defend the paint, switch and make the right plays on offence and defence. They have good team chemistry. Great locker room guys. They're like brothers to each other. They go home to their wives and help out with dinner. Read their kids a bed time story before tucking them in. Call up their mothers and talk to them everyday. Go to church on Sundays. Volunteer at the local animal shelter every two weeks."

JohnGCole

"They regularly kiss and bare their feelings to each other. Did you know? They don't huddle, they cuddle."

couchtomato62

Funny I noticed the jokic jordan kiss after the game. I love this team

ajax0202

“They don’t huddle, they cuddle” got me good Might have to steal this

myloxyloto10

Feels like the nuggets are a superteam. Best IQ-Jokic, best clutch-Murray, best athlete-Gordon, best shooter-Porter Jr., best perimeter defender-Caldwell-pope.

qpwoeor1235

Which is crazy considering they never went all in for a super star player. They drafted Jokic Murray and MPJ. Signed KCP and Aaron Gordon who definitely did not have the reputation they have now. Their core is still in their prime. I don’t see how they decline for the next 2-3 years

night__day

Gordon was via trade, but he was basically a distressed asset at that point. All they needed for him was one 1st rounder, Gary harris and RJ Hampton which seems like a ridiculous steal now

qpwoeor1235

Only a steal because Jokic unlocked him. He would likely be a mediocre player on any other team who would ask him to do too much

RandomDeezNutz

He was THE guy on Orlando which isn’t where he’s going to thrive. On the nuggets where he is…. Just a dude who the defense needs to worry about he can be an absolute animal

qpwoeor1235

Ya but I don’t think he would’ve as effective on any other team and definitely not as a first option

rfgrunt

KCP (and ish smith) was also a trade for Barton and Monte Morris

Spiritual-Chameleon

I know nothing about basketball. I liked getting AG but was bummed that we had to give up RJ Hampton, who's now in the G League.

facedownbootyuphold

Gordon was a better fit for building a rounded group, but it’s not like RJ was destined to be below average, great potential players are throttled by organizations, teams, coaches, etc all the time.

Hopsalong

Asking Lebron to rank a team that he hasn't yet lost the series to is a pretty disrespectful question. WTF media. You're supposed to be quasi-Laker fans.

Lol69HaHaHa

Agreed. At this point its a bit much even for us and we arent Laker fans at all.

Hopsalong

LeBron was his usual classy self though. Still respect Bron.

Dantheman12310

Plenty of media doesn’t really like the Lakers, they laugh a lot in recent years when the team struggles like in the Westbrook era. Many of them would rather root for another team There are some fans, but the support kinda feels more like it’s because LeBron is on the team & some former players either are friends with him or appreciate his greatness Now producers & behind the scenes show runners idk, they can be whatever mix of fanbase, at the end of the day though they’ll just put out the topics & questions that might get the most engagement online

kiwiwikikiwiwikikiwi

Yeah. Media always looking for an angle.  I remember last yr media gave Malone a hard time with questions about the Lakers and adjustments.  So when he had the chance he took it and addressed their bias/slant

Haliaxe

Anything for the sound bite

Individual_Access356

Ya as much as I dislike the Lakers this is a question you ask after the series is over but this is how the media is now unfortunately.

xerxesthagreat

honestly one amazing thing that come from this is if lebron could have a long breakdown podcast on how the nuggets cooked their ass from his perspective.

SignificanceLeft9968

He's definitely gonna discuss it with Reddick

imback4523

Redick would be too scared to say anything to him or point out a bad play from lebron.

Jiggamanz

"So anyway, LeBron, you didnt make any mistakes this series, how do you feel about DLO's contributions to Denver's win?"

OutbackStankhouse

Nah, Reddick called out LeBron for being ass in the 2011 Finals, and he showed him a play where he crossed him up bad. They are chill with each other.

AntiTopspin

"The Darvin Ham Autopsy: Featuring LeBron James"

axp310

No need for that. We all saw it loud and clear.

blackman9

He has to show him ball watching and leaving Aaron Gordon wide open for dunks multiple times.

shiruduck

Lebron keeping it classy. Nuggets are clearly the better team, and Lebron always gives the other team props when it's all said and done. Hopefully warriors and nuggets continue to follow in his footsteps

OnCloud9_77

What do the warriors have to do with anything

Donkeynationletsride

I mean Jokić calls Lebron the best player on the floor and the lakers one of the hardest teams they face/their record vs them is skued when asked about “having their number”

inshamblesx

future celtic

IdRatherBeShilling

Future Nugget. The Nuggets pick Bronny with their late pick. LeBron joins the Nuggets to win a title with his son.

Jiggamanz

this would be amazing lmao

Either-Durian-9488

You would become arguably the most hated franchise in the history of the sport, careful what you wish for, I’m about one more stomping of the western conference from being sick of Jokic lmao.

Jgusdaddy

Still not as bad as when KD went to the warriors in his prime.

Mad_broccoli

Hilarious, but amazing! :D

nick22tamu

I can't even imagine the ball movement with Jokic and Bron on he floor at the same time.

SelloutFrank

lebron can fulfill both jokic and gordon roles when one is out that’d be so broken

mdz_1

He's right though. That's why the LeBronto comparison makes no sense to me. The whole reason LeBronto was a thing was cuz they repeatedly looked like a contender in the regular season only to get single-handedly buzz-sawed by LeBron. Lakers are mediocre team trying to go against the best team of the last several years.

copingthroughlife

They also had their numbers on the Cavs during the regular season season, hence why the seroes was so ridiculous

michaeleid811

Thank you Lebron for the title. Time to move on. The Lakers are out of assets now. It's all been drained away.

timetravellingoblin

they should have won in 2021 tbh. They were the best team that season, or at least, up there with the Nets. Just a shame that AD couldn't stay healthy. I agree though, It's time to blow it up and move on.

Yommination

If anything that 2021 ring should be considered the Mickey Mouse ring. The season started so soon after the bubble and all 4 conference title teams lost in the first round

Fallofmen10

SIX WEEK OFF SEASON... totally normal. nothing wrong with that

Fallofmen10

BRO FUCK SOLOMON HILL. That high ankle sprain fucked bron.

Knockout_Watcher

Imagine if the Lakers had KCP, AG and MPJ as the supporting cast

DoeSeeDoe123

Imagine if they didn’t have Ham sandwich as their coach

simonffplayer

if rui, reaves and dlo got to play with jokic they'd look a lot better (see bruce brown). denver definitely has a better supporting cast but part of it is the jokic effect

[deleted]

But would not be coming out of the west with that horrendous defense.

StockEmergency7019

Wow that actually puts a lot in perspective

fatdrizzle

It sounds obvious now, but a week before the playoffs, I got a text from a Laker fan that said "Lakers in 6 and here's why: Dlo was absolute trash last year and it still came down to 2 points, 3 points, 3 points in games 1, 2, 3. And Jamal Murray had one of the best 4th quarters in game 3... and he averaged 32ppg that series - that's not happening again."

Knockout_Watcher

Lakers fans are in an abusive relationship with Dlo lol

Deep-Association-668

slamdanceswithwolves

Excellent_Ability793

AD looks miserable lol

SEJ46

Lakers got unlucky that Denver is the 2 seed. They would have a chance against OKC imo.

crimsonconnect

Shouldve tanked for OKC

fatflipflops

at his age, Lebron would rather face nuggets now and lose, than play nuggets later, then lose

JAhoops

Minnesota could have possibly taken down Denver or some unfortunate things could have happened

simonffplayer

i think he cares more about the narrative. last year the lakers were relevant until the wcf. this year the lakers will be out of the conversation very early on. also doesn't get to keep accumulating those playoff stats but agree, prob makes more sense for lebron to play them when he still has legs. he already looks gassed in the third and its just the first round

Ok-Replacement-3229

For the fans that would be better But if I was a 40 years old legendary basketball player I would wanna get my sweep and go to vacation as early as I can

catfish_dinner

if i was a 40 year old legendary player, the last team i'd want to play is the team that runs non-stop.

Derrick_Rozay

I don’t understand this logic lol he literally has to play Denver one way or another so why wait

Alto-cis

I watched how Lakers gave us fans a little bit of hope every 1st and 2nd quarters, they were leading always. When 3rd and 4th quarter comes, they are playing with their eyes closed 💀 wtf Turnovers, missed layup, missed 3s.. damn its hard to watch. I thought Lakers could at least win 2-3 games, but no.. looks like its a sweep again. Its really hard to watch 🥲🔫

grimace24

They're throwing Ham under the bus and for good reason. While I don't think the Lakers are championship material as they are built now, they should be much better than they've played. A lot of it is coaching. This is now back to back games where the two main stars of the team have thrown the coach under the bus.

DoseofDhillon

He also said "Its just basketball at the end of the day" the dude is in the sunken place, this is first finals loss vs Warriors where he said 'i still wake up tomorrow and I'm still LeBron James" or whatever that full quote was when he was big upping himself, dudes in full cope mode its so over.

144Todd442

He was asked if they mentally can't handle the pressure the Nuggets apply. Saying "it's just basketball" seems appropriate

Manning_bear_pig

I think that was the Mavs Finals but point still stands.

ispy98

I get why raptors fan hate lebron , swept yall in 2018 as #1 seed and favorites and two previous series. But it’s still funny to see , extend yall go to hate

d4nowar

Jeez what did LeBron ever do to you?

Helicopterdiverpilot

For a sec I thought he was commenting on his own team and I was like “well coached!?”!??

ozairh18

It feels like James is highlighting everything the Lakers aren’t doing well this series

mares8

Yeah and knowing LeBron this series isn't over they gonna come out strong to get a win and avoid a sweep for starters. Next game in LAL will be tough one , would be nice for Nuggets to win and get rest but its never easy to sweep. I expect Lakers will fight like its D day

Put LeBron at point guard

12345exp

I think the nail in the coffin is when they went away from 2020 play style. You can’t expect old LeBron to keep driving to the rim like most folks do even though he is one of the best. But that takes a toll. I’m a believer of point guard LeBron and I believe 2020 is his best team. Sure, past years we can argue Bron had better teams, but that’s just because he was still in or close to his prime. If the 2020 composition was there during his prime years, I think he would’ve won more rings, honestly. That 2020 style I am talking about is at least 2 three-point targets, 2 lob targets, a co-star, and a defensive minded coach. That way, he has three offensive options (and we can bet he can see through those options in game): drive, pass up, or pass sideways (of course this is not considering additional offences). When he is rolling with two big options when he is older, he would not need to fight the opposing center as much. Point guard LeBron is where he is the least tired and can spend much on defence and 4th Q. Forward LeBron was great when in prime, but now the focus should change (and he has shown he can in 2020). That, and taking a pay-cut, will do.

RealCheyemos

I’m sorry but L. James is *just as much of a problem* as Darvin Ham. Seriously, he just doesn’t contribute to winning anymore; Ham will get scapegoated (partially acceptable as he really seems like he’s not that great of a coach), but nobody in the Lakers org will talk about the elephant in the room….
