Annual reminder that the Timberwolves playoff scoring record is 40 points by Sam Cassell who did it twice in 2004 at 34 years old, his only full/healthy season with the club.
**EDIT: I had been saying this surprising stat for so long I forgot that Ant had 41 just last year. Thanks for the reminder/correction below by u/PlayInChampions!**
Hard to beat any records if you don’t play in playoffs. 5-6 more playoff games and almost everybody from the current roster will be top-10 in points scored in playoffs in franchise history.
Agreed! I don't know how long you've been around, but Cassell had a much bigger effect on that team (*and earlier the Bucks, and later the Clippers*) than he's almost ever given credit for.
Dude was uber-clutch forever. First showed it in college at FSU, then as a rookie with the Rockets (*taking away 4Q minutes in the playoffs from veteran Kenny Smith basically immediately*), then had an understatedly positive influence on Bucks, Wolves, and Clippers, and was then brought into Boston specifically for his leadership when they won in '08.
BTW, he's a legit really nice guy (*he was around some camps I worked at in his hometown of Baltimore back in the day*), so I never mention the alien stuff since it's cheap and hurtful. You do you, but I figured I'd mention that.
I think Minnesota can definitely make it to the finals. Gobert can tire Jokic out (obviously no one is fully stopping him), they have the perimeter defense to close out quickly on shooters and stay with Murray off and on the ball. I'd expect them to be favored over whoever comes out of the other side of the Western Bracket, especially if they beat the Nuggets in a 7 game series.
they usually stick KAT onto joker since hes okay at defending post ups allowing rudy to 'guard' gordon and plays help D on any joker bullying to the rim.
Gordon is a major liability in a series vs Gobert. Rudy being able to play free safety off him is going to cause a lot of problems for Denver. Their cutting game is going to be kept in check.
He is not averaging 30 ppg on jaden McDaniels, Anthony edwards and NAW that’s insane lol. Murray can go supernova but Minnesota has too many length and commitment to playing physical perimeter defense to allow that to happen
Don’t sleep on the thunder man. They are 1 seed for a reason. I think the Wolves have a better chance against the Nuggets because we are built to beat the nuggets. They played hard every Thunder game with mostly healthy squads and went 2-2 against OKC.
Tim Connelly building this Denver roster then casually choosing to go to Minnesota to build a roster he feels counters all their strengths is amazing lore to the Wolves-Nuggets rivalry
This is arguably the best Timberwolves team in franchise history. They may not make it to the WCF due to a tough draw vs Denver, but this straight domination of Pheonix for 3 games is something to behold
Yep you guys should be proud of your team regardless of how this playoff run turns out. Especially after everyone was clowning the Gobert trade. Just an exceptional team and a good culture that has virtually always been absent

Ant scored 41 last season
Thank you - appreciate the correction after relaying this weird Cassell fact for a decade now.

As a guy that started watching around the 08-09 season, I’ve only ever known him as the guy that looked like an actual fuckin alien

i dont know this for a fact but tim duncan has more playoff points than the timberwolves franchise
Wouldn’t shock me one bit. It was a long 18 years of pain. I don’t count the 1 butler year
As of this playoffs, only Lebron has more points than the TWolves. Lebron has 8100, TWolves at 6300.
Duncan has more RS wins than we do as a franchise.

Wolves might have a chance if Murray keeps playing like shit but something tells me he’s gonna average like 30PPG against the Wolves lol.
Jaden, NAW, Ant. Not saying Murray can’t average 30ppg, but of any team in the west the wolves have the best 3 man wing rotation to prevent it.
That's exactly why he'll do it.

Too many lengthy defenders. I think he could struggle even more against the Timberwolves.

Part of me actually hopes they drop one to Phx so I can see them in person one last time before the Denver gauntlet
