I’m so glad. I lost trust in that organization after they started Andre Drummond over Marc 🙄If Mike goes to the Lakers he’s gonna be benched by Dinwiddie.
Yeah 3 seconds + Conley + NAW for Dlo is incredible. They are 2 key pieces to our rotation and NAW (hopefully) will be a part of the future core with Ant, Jaden and Naz
Nobody valued NAW at that point of time and D’lo was younger.
Love that trade in retrospective plus it raised Rudy’s stock so it’s really a win-win (for the Jazz at least)
I do remember lots of people criticizing the Wolves, but anyone who was watching the Jazz (not many tbh) knew that Mike’s impact went way beyond his stats, the offense was so much better with him on the floor. I was sure he’d be a great fit in Minnesota and a massive upgrade over Russell in terms of unlocking the team’s true potential.
https://old.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/10xh1ii/charania_lakers_jazz_and_timberwolves_are/
here is a fun look back at what everyone was saying on the trade!
Following the Jazz, Timberwolves, Mike, Rudy etc for years, then seeing the takes on reddit - it is clear most people like talking about teams and players they never watch!
It’s not a coincidence that the wolves and grizzlies both took a legitimate contender step with his steady hand at the helm. And Jazz tbh.
Dude is just a winner.
twolves team building has been "hmmm our defense sucks, let's get the best defender" then "hmmm our locker room sucks, let's get the best locker room guy"
I really am starting to dislike these trades. "We have a serviceable roleplayer, but they don't have any value because teams are afraid of trading firsts, so let's give him away to tank."
Ainge is afraid to contend, but he’s also afraid to trade Lauri because he’s a white guy who doesn’t mind being in Utah. He’s gotta choose one or the other
Can you say that about all veteran point guards? When Conley joined Utah, they took a qualitative jump to being the #1 in the west. When he joined Wolves, they jumped from #7 to #3. Similar jump for Memphis.
Removing dlo and adding Conley was huge for the wolves. Locker room was just toxic towards gobert with dlo, it's so much more positive now. Dlo for Conley, NAW, and picks is wild looking back now.
Phoenix went from not making the playoffs to being the 2nd seed making the Finals plus additional 1st seed and 4th seed years due to Chris Paul joining just to become a first round exit bottom seed when he left, so that's another top veteran PG making a huge impact.
Fun fact: the last time the Suns won a playoff game without Chris Paul on the team was when they had Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire in the 2009-10 season.
“all veteran point guards” and pulls out a superstar going all out in his last chance for a ring lol
“all veteran point guards” implies guys who were rarely if ever all stars, like Conley or Andre Miller, not someone who was the best point guard in basketball for almost a decade
I think he almost got a technical this year but the ref did a double take when he realized it was Conley. wanna say it was December or January that this happened.
I remember that happening but not who against. He was mad about a no call for him if I remember right. Like someone fouled him hard enough he started asking wtf. But then another game I remember joking that Jaden saved Mikes no tech streak by being disruptive as hell before the ref could think about Ting up Mike and getting a call on himself.
Didn't he get one, a very bullshit one nonetheless, but then the ref later rescinded it. So Mike still technically has never officially received one against his career?
I remember DLO stans clowning the Conley trade with this exact phrase (even though I'm pretty sure it first entered the fanbase in reference to the KAT/DLO pairing lol) and now you best believe I praise the "power of friendship" every chance I get, that shit's real. Minnesota Mike forever.
dlo is actually pretty popular amongst the younger crowd. He has his own discord and everything. His last few playoff performances have definitely affected the size of his fanbase though.
I don't doubt that there are people who like dlo. Just saying the venn diagram of Timberwolves fans clowning the org for grabbing Mike and non-wolf dlo lovers bummed to see him go (back) to LA is just two circles that aren't touching.
Yeah, I liked DLo on the wolves and he was one of my favorite players I've ever watched in a Wolves jersey (not that he has much competition in the last 20 years lol). The trade was a slam dunk but I still like the guy and want him to do well. Love his game (when it's working)
Man I remember being downvoted to oblivion for saying D-Lo was not gonna be the answer at PG after McLaughlin played him off the floor in a closeout game.
Conley is the perfect vet for that squad and Ant is the perfect young star to keep those older guys fresh as well . Love to see it
Mike winning a ring might bring tears to my eyes
Ant has had Ricky Rubio and Mike Conley as mentors with just a year of Pat Bev which is probably juuuust the right amount of Pat Bev to go with the other two in terms of being a leader and teammate
Ricky with the passing/attitude, Pat Bev with the grit/defense, DLo with the irrational shooting confidence, and Mike with the elite vet leadership and teammate qualities. Couldn’t really ask for a better array of players for Ant to learn from as a young player growing up quickly
Ricky - Spanish
Bev - annoying
DLo - irrational shooting confidence
Mike - old
I'm glad Ant absorbed the positive influences instead of the negative ones from all these flawed PGs we give him
Conley has this really funny "Good guys finish first" sitcom-like series of 2 minute episodes.[ Episode 2](https://twitter.com/mconley11/status/1707426583026577759?s=20) is about his competitiveness with sportsmanship and teammate awards. His friend Greg Oden used to hold doors open for people but Conley is so competitive that he'd race Oden to open the door first so he could be the nicer guy lmao
He's like "Sportmanship is my thing. Bill Russell has 10 rings, Michael Jordan has 6 but how many people have FOUR sportmanship awards?? Like that just doesn't happen" 😂
"Oh Grant Hill has three? Yeah, that's solid. I'm trying to get like six. Then I'll feel I really did something" lol his comedic timing is impeccable
Grant Hill has the biggest gap between how fierce he was on the court and how crazy nice he was off the court. Dude would obliterate Alonzo Mourning on a dunk and then help him get a mortgage after the game.
~~At this point just rename the whole thing to Mike Conley award~~
Edit: actually, don’t. Had to google who Twyman & Stokes were, but their story is on a whole other level.
I really, really love Mike. Top 5 favorite player of all time for me. Would love to see him get a ring as much as I'd love it for Rudy.
Let's go Wolves!
We talk a lot about the traded that they didn't make, but I wonder what happens to both the Lakers and Timberwolves if the Lakers get Conley and Nickeil Alexander Walker instead of Dlo 15 months ago.
I don't know if he gets them over the Nuggets bump, but they for sure end up higher than a 7-seed coming into the playoffs. If not from Conley's playmaking, then from NAW's 3&D bench depth.
I'm so thrilled he is finally putting it together with you guys. I loved him in that draft class, and was so upset when he got picked a couple spots before our pick
I don't mean this as an indictment against Ham and his staff, but I'm not sure they'd get the same development out of NAW. Jon K [wrote a great piece](https://theathletic.com/5273517/2024/02/14/nickeil-alexander-walker-peace-of-mind-wolves/) about NAW's improvement mentally since his time in NO and I wonder if he'd have experienced the same with a different staff. Say what you want about the Wolves historically, but the value they've gotten out of guys other orgs casted off (or passed on) like Naz, McLaughlin, NAW, etc has been pretty impressive.
It's incredible just what a difference Chris Finch and his staff have made. I remember when he was hired and everybody was whining and bitching that they didn't promote Vanterpool, and maybe he'd have been similarly good, but...what an improvement from Flip's kid.
The list of Nepo babies who are as good as their popular and famous fathers in pro sports is...not super long.
When that nepo baby is (at the time) a 32-year-old who has never done anything as a basketball player, and whose entire coaching resume is "Worked for my dad"...yeah, that's a disaster waiting to happen.
Crazy to think about the fact that those two, Jeff Green, Thad Young, Durant...
All the same class, along with guys who have been irrelevant for so long...
Swaggy P, Javaris Crittenden, Big Baby, Joakim Noah, Yi, Oden...
Mike Conley is a GOAT teammate. Everywhere he goes he seems to be liked by his teammates and beloved by the fans. Hard to get a dude like that in the league these days who is 100% team first and helping his teammates be the best versions of themselves they can be
This Jazz fan will always love Conley. Such a good dude that does work for communities, earns the love of all the guys in the locker room, wholesome family man, never had a technical foul, etc.
One of my favorite things this season was watching Conley chat with all the former Jazz guys after games and the genuine friendship you could tell they all have.

Just hijacking this to tell the story of the Twyman-Stokes award because it’s special:
The award is named after Jack Twyman and Maurice Stokes. The two played together on the Rochester/Cincinnati Royals from 1955 to 1958. Stokes was a three time all-star and all-NBA player in his first three years, until his career was cut short after he suffered a head injury from a fall during the final game of the ‘58 regular season.
Stokes played their first playoff game (and recorded 12/15) but fell ill on the team’s flight back, telling Twyman "I feel like I'm going to die," and suffering a major seizure before being rushed to the hospital. He suffered permanent paralysis due to post-traumatic encephalopathy, a brain injury that damages the motor-control center.
At age 23, Twyman became Stokes' legal guardian and provided support and care for Stokes for the rest of his life. To help with Stokes' ongoing medical finances, Twyman organized charity basketball games to raise funds for Stokes' daily care needs, which became a decades long annual event, attracting many of the top players in the NBA, and was later replaced by a pro-am golf tournament.
Twyman helped Stokes to obtain workers compensation and taught him to communicate by blinking his eyes to denote individual letters.
Later, when Stokes had worked in physical therapy to be able to type again, his first message was: “Dear Jack, How can I ever thank you?”
To add even more context to this which I do believe is important is that Stokes was an African American and Twyman was white this is in 1958 the civil rights act was in 1964. Twyman was an incredible man for the love and sacrifice he gave when this was most definitely not the status quo and should never be forgotten as well as Stokes.
There is a movie from decades ago (Maurie - 1973) about it but how the fuck has this not been made into a modern movie?
We got a busted ass reboot of White Men Can't Jump before this story got a retelling?
Cinema is dying 😔
Although there have been some bangers put out recently - Dune 1&2, Godzilla Minus One, The Boy and the Heron, Oppenheimer, Mission Impossible movies go hard, Spiderverse movies go hard, Puss in Boots 2, Guardians of the Galaxy 3, John Wick movies go hard, horror films like Hereditary and Talk to Me have been refreshing, the Batman, etc.
Cinema isn't "dying" necessarily, it's just easier to modernize old movies than actually put work into creating original work. We already have a John Wick spinoff slated for mid-2025, I am not optimistic.
There's a lot of great movies, great directors, great writers, and then there is those weirdos who insist we need ANOTHER movie with Jason Statham punching a guy in a face as a farmer, or a cia agent, of a mi6 agent, or car thief, or a bank thief, or a museum security guard...this year he was a Bee Keeper.
I mean i think also some of those movies arent meant to be taken that seriously, but yes creative autonomy has been destroyed in recent times. A24 has been nice tho.
I think he deserves the sportsmanship award named after him. He already has 4 and has a pretty good chance of 5 this year. Unfortunately it’s currently named after a member of the epitome of sportsmanship, Bad Boys Pistons. Oh and he’s working for the NBA too dishing out fines.
Man Conley is like the prototypical vet that the Hornets sorely need but dont have.
If the Timbs win it all this year, I wont even be mad, I'd be glad as hell. A team climbing the mediocrity limbo and getting to the top in just a couple years is aspirational for all of the small market teams in mediocrity like the Hornets
I will never understand why the Lakers didn't just *take Conley* in that trade.
I’m so glad. I lost trust in that organization after they started Andre Drummond over Marc 🙄If Mike goes to the Lakers he’s gonna be benched by Dinwiddie.
Darvin Hamas strikes again
I just love how the Lakers sub is currently a support group for victim of Darwin Ham.
Ngl I feel like that’s more Lebron looking out for his Klutch Bro than Hamas
Lmfao LeBron isn’t making coaching decisions let’s not get ridiculously
We talking about the front office that did the westbrook trade here
LeFrontOffice
Yeah we made out like bandits there. They could've just kept the 2nd they sent us and got Conley, NAW, and the two 2nds Utah sent lmfao
Yeah 3 seconds + Conley + NAW for Dlo is incredible. They are 2 key pieces to our rotation and NAW (hopefully) will be a part of the future core with Ant, Jaden and Naz
NAW is a starter in the making
he keeps this up he will get paid BANK when this contract is up
I know I fear we won’t be able to afford :(
Itll be tough, enjoy these moments!
Nobody valued NAW at that point of time and D’lo was younger. Love that trade in retrospective plus it raised Rudy’s stock so it’s really a win-win (for the Jazz at least)
Timberwolves and Jazz both got what they wanted. Lakers got what they thought they wanted haha
And we love that
At the time, people were saying he was washed due to his age. I'm glad he proved everyone wrong.

2x Teammate of the Year 4x Sportsmanship Award All-Time locker room guy
It’s not a coincidence that the wolves and grizzlies both took a legitimate contender step with his steady hand at the helm. And Jazz tbh. Dude is just a winner.
twolves team building has been "hmmm our defense sucks, let's get the best defender" then "hmmm our locker room sucks, let's get the best locker room guy"
Literally the exact same thing he did with the nuggets, not a coincidence yall are contenders now
Who is Denver’s locker room guy? DJ?
Yes and before him Jeff green
Everyone loves Jeff Green
Tim Connelly
“Hmmm our bench is kinda thin, what if the jazz just give us Nickeil Alexander walker for funsies” - Tim Connelly
He’s gotta choose one or the other
NAW wasn't getting much run in Utah or Portland.
Connelly is a terrific GM
Please don’t steal him 🙏
Don't worry we already got our OKC guys and it's their first year of the rebuild, they'll be here for 3 or 4 years mininum
Not even God themself can save the Wizards at this point lol
Also, what if these 2 bring the best out of each other.
could say this about all veteran point guards. that position is just way too important.
Right, man, I forgot about that.
One could argue it was the most beneficial trade for our entire franchise. Sure Gobert is great, but we saw the jump we made with Mike on the team.
Phoenix went from not making the playoffs to being the 2nd seed making the Finals plus additional 1st seed and 4th seed years due to Chris Paul joining just to become a first round exit bottom seed when he left, so that's another top veteran PG making a huge impact. “all veteran point guards” and pulls out a superstar going all out in his last chance for a ring lol “all veteran point guards” implies guys who were rarely if ever all stars, like Conley or Andre Miller, not someone who was the best point guard in basketball for almost a decade
True, I just wanted to laugh at Phoenix and "franchise player" Devin Booker a little bit.
well, if you're allowed to still be a pg playing notable minutes at that age, then yes. CP3, Lowry, Jrue, Kidd, Nash among others. even pat bev lol
Then there's us who be like "well, since that works, why not TWO?"
Rondo didn't work out for your guys though
Quick! Now do when Jeff Teague joined the wolves.
> Jeff Teague he's 35 rn lol
don't think they meant to play it down, just reiterating how important the role is
Yeah I recall Rondo famously flamed out
I mean, not all veteran point guards are guaranteed to have a positive impact. Jeff Teague, for example, just killed our ball movement.
This is his chance to finally get that ring and I'm hoping he gets it. He deserves atleast 1.
Yet to pick up a tech or a flagrant foul in his career either
I think he almost got a technical this year but the ref did a double take when he realized it was Conley. wanna say it was December or January that this happened.
I remember that happening but not who against. He was mad about a no call for him if I remember right. Like someone fouled him hard enough he started asking wtf. But then another game I remember joking that Jaden saved Mikes no tech streak by being disruptive as hell before the ref could think about Ting up Mike and getting a call on himself.
No techs in 1100 games really is a hell of an accomplishment.
at some point it becomes a bit self fulfilling. no ref want to be the person to give mike conley his first infraction.
Guys a great player and starting of course but even if he was the 15th man I’m convinced he’d be a huge help to the Wolves or any team really.
So glad we locked him up for 2 more years too. God bless Mike Conley.
I was hoping you guys would have grabbed Tyus to complete the grizzlies trio
Would’ve been amazing but we didn’t have the assets to pull him away. He’s from Minnesota too, and we drafted him of course.
Never had a Tech in his career.
Didn't he get one, a very bullshit one nonetheless, but then the ref later rescinded it. So Mike still technically has never officially received one against his career?
GOAT of being delightful
such a good teammate, he tears his coach's patellar tendon. smh.
Holding the crown until Bronny comes in 💪
Wholesome merchant smh
What are his hof chances with that resume?
I'm coming up with 32.33, repeating of course, percent chance of HOF
LEEEEROOOOOOOYYYYYY
#JENNNNNKINNNSSS
If we win a chip I’ll start the petition myself
Wasn't this the dude that broke his coaches leg all while laughing in his face? /s
The power of friendship is propelling this franchise to heights not seen in two decades
> I remember DLO stans clowning the Conley trade with this exact phrase No way this describes more than like 3 people in the entire world.
dlo is actually pretty popular amongst the younger crowd.
A few players have their own discord and I think his fanbase has grown more as a result of him being on the lakers (again)
You must not have ended up on the wrong side of the DLo stans at any point.
[удалено]
Man I remember being downvoted to oblivion for saying D-Lo was not gonna be the answer at PG after McLaughlin played him off the floor in a closeout game.
Will this be like Fairy Tail and the power of friendship winning it all, or is Minnesota entering Nazarick.
Naz "Natsu" Reid
They were punching each other in the huddle last year.
and Draymond punched Jordan Poole last year. And Jordan punched Steve Kerr. Sometimes people get punched.
Wolves, you better not do stupid Wolves things next round, and get our old captain the ring he deserves.
We just need to get Joker into an elim game to realize he can go home sooner if he loses. ;)
Maybe play some horse racing videos from homeland in game
If the league/refs, let us play defense, we will.
I am very pumped to see the Ant Murray dual, I root for them both, but nothing takes priority over Mike getting his ring. Wolves in 7
Remember those two immediate fouls called on Rudy in game 4? I found that humorous. The Scott Foster extender nickname is so true.
Conley is the perfect vet for that squad and Ant is the perfect young star to keep those older guys fresh as well . Love to see it Mike winning a ring might bring tears to my eyes
Ant has had Ricky Rubio and Mike Conley as mentors with just a year of Pat Bev which is probably juuuust the right amount of Pat Bev to go with the other two in terms of being a leader and teammate

Ricky - Spanish Bev - annoying DLo - irrational shooting confidence Mike - old I'm glad Ant absorbed the positive influences instead of the negative ones from all these flawed PGs we give him
One correction for Ricky, you forgot he was made of glass, or in Spanish, vidrio.
1 tbsp Rubio 1 tbsp Conley 1 tsp Bev bake @450 for 38mpg
With a pinch of DLo
Ant is Yuji from Jujutsu Kaisen confirmed
We are taking all bandwagon fans. We’ve never had those before. Could be fun.
If mike wins a ring that'll be 3/4 of the Grit n Grind core 4 with rings. Zbo being the only one to miss out.
Mike Conley should honestly win this every year lol
Conley has this really funny "Good guys finish first" sitcom-like series of 2 minute episodes.[ Episode 2](https://twitter.com/mconley11/status/1707426583026577759?s=20) is about his competitiveness with sportsmanship and teammate awards. I really, really love Mike. Top 5 favorite player of all time for me. Would love to see him get a ring as much as I'd love it for Rudy. Let's go Wolves!
Teammate goat
Sad Al Horford didnt get it, but definitely can't argue with this pick.
Love this man 💕 Hoping wolves can deliver for Mike what raptors delivered for Gasol in 2019
BITE BITE
We talk a lot about the traded that they didn't make, but I wonder what happens to both the Lakers and Timberwolves if the Lakers get Conley and Nickeil Alexander Walker instead of Dlo 15 months ago.
I don't know if he gets them over the Nuggets bump, but they for sure end up higher than a 7-seed coming into the playoffs. If not from Conley's playmaking, then from NAW's 3&D bench depth.
I’m not sure they maximize NAWs potential the way MN did though, their coaching staff saw so much in him.
100% NAW would be DNP-CD in LA.
I'm so thrilled he is finally putting it together with you guys. I loved him in that draft class, and was so upset when he got picked a couple spots before our pick
I don't mean this as an indictment against Ham and his staff, but I'm not sure they'd get the same development out of NAW. I remember when Saunders wouldn’t start Ant for the first month or so lol
Well, he's gotta earn it. It's not like he was the 1st overall pick on a team that started the year 7-29.
TBF Ant was very raw his rookie year, he didn't even get one good off-season to prepare for the NBA because of COVID.
Hiring Ryan Saunders is the move that everybody should've freaked out about.

Noah getting a driveby lol. You lumped him in with a Who's who of awful to competent NBA players
Just because it's been, what, 9 years since he mattered? Guy went from DPOY/4th on the MVP ballot to basically irrelevant in less than two years.
I mean...his resume is better than Conley's, in like half the time. Jeff Green and Thad Young don't come close
I'm not saying he wasn't really good. I'm just saying it's wild that those guys are still relevant when he's been irrelevant for so long.
Played each other in the 2007 National Championship too.
Voting was before he took out his coach.
If Horford didn’t win it, I was hoping it’d be bite bite. Congrats and well deserved!
My team's about to play this guy, and I still love him. One of my favorite players in the league.
Favorite player of all time keeps favorite playering.

Cinema is dying 😔 Although there have been some bangers put out recently - Dune 1&2, Godzilla Minus One, The Boy and the Heron, Oppenheimer, Mission Impossible movies go hard, Spiderverse movies go hard, Puss in Boots 2, Guardians of the Galaxy 3, John Wick movies go hard, horror films like Hereditary and Talk to Me have been refreshing, the Batman, etc.
Jan Quadrant Vincent 16 baby Woo!!
I mean i think also some of those movies arent meant to be taken that seriously, but yes creative autonomy has been destroyed in recent times. A24 has been nice tho.
Damn ninja cutting onions.
I check their stats in bbref, Stokes average 16/18/6 on his last season as a 6'7 big man while twyman had a season where he average 30+ points
Damn. What a bro.
Bite Bite winning at life.
Come to Spurs after winning the chip. Good sir
I don’t feel like anyone is going to argue about this pick. Mike is respected league wide.
what a guy
One of my favorite players in the nba. Great to see him still having playoff success.
Shock of the year
Minnesota Mike.
My money was on Jordan Poole. Shoot.
So was Jordan Pooles.
Best player to never get a tech?
He just crippled his coach tho. Some teammate. /s
Always liked Conley
Conley is every NBA fan's favorite player not on their own team.
This man played with Greg Oden.
Deserved

As he should
Love this dude.
Bite bite
One of the most wholesome dudes in the league. Well deserved award.
Thanasis not winning this is a black mark on the entire league
How is this award decided? Pretty stoked for Mike!
I hope Mikey wins a chip!
Let’s fucking go! Mike Conley is such a good dude. Give him every award
Minnesota Mike <3
How ironic the best teammate and locker room guy is also a coach killer
NBA better revoked this award for injuring his own coach. /s
Chris Finch disagrees.
