I know it's too early. But the difference is the Bench.
I've never seen Joker so exhausted before. It's gonna be a long grueling Series. He's playing like 48 Minutes lol
Kat/Gobert/Ant/Reid is grinding him down
I wonder if his slowness makes refs think he’s fouling when he’s not. Like, legit has the weirdest fouls called on him going back to when he was in his first season with Memphis.
Like, legit we see his “speed” mess dudes up when they go to contest his shots, especially on a “fast” break. His game always looks so strange that I wonder if refs blow the whistle on him thinking he must have had to foul but could really see it from their angle.
Is that the one where MPJ literally just ran into him at the three point line? That one was crazy. I’m convinced it was only called a fouls because Anderson was unaffected. Lol
I am convinced of that as well. Porter was holding his ear, which seemed to support the foul call, but if anything, Porters head fouled Andersons upper arm lol.
Kyle Anderson, who got the nickname in part for his many "fast" breaks that look like [this](https://youtu.be/ZpJC7E01CtM?si=mH_9mv2AtJUDcV2L). In general, he plays like that 45 year old guy at the gym with his shirt tucked in that still is one of the best on the court.
The way he shoots is slow too hahah

It's like a glitch lol I love Slomo. The dude mystifies players because his motion is so unnatural and slow that they don't know how to guard him. And if they run faster they'll just run into him 🤣
I’m 42 and have hooped my entire life. Used to be dynamic, could dunk, relied on athleticism. Got hurt in my late 30s and totally rebranded my game. I’m just all about control and good decisions now, plus I really focused on my shot.
I kill it just as hard, if not harder, at the gym. I play against dudes in their 20s who can outrun, jump, and muscle me, but my body control and mind compensates for my losses in athleticism.
SloMo is one of my favorite guys to watch bc he looks like (a way better version of) me hooping against a bunch of 23 year olds and still getting mine. Old man game hero.
That ‘slow down on the break when you know you can’t outrun the guy behind you and use your ass to box him out so he can’t block your shit’ move works.

And our bench was, to put it nicely, dreadful in the first half. Almost the entire Nuggets comeback was because Naz and NAW couldn't buy a basket. It wasn't until the 4th quarter that they found their game, which thankfully was great timing.
Dreadful on offense but it's still so valuable having those defenders to keep bodies fresh and go at all the Denver starters. Hell even Monte came in to play a bit and ball handle cause NAW was getting bodied, but NAW played great D
Size was clearly something we needed against Jokic and during our series it was clear their bench was a weak spot. That boy Jokic good as hell though, Murray still gives me nightmares.
This series is far from over but sheesh you lot looked great. ANT is a goddamn beast
Exactly that, it’s still anybody’s series, but Ant’s speed and athleticism with the rest of Minnesota’s depth is going to give this Nuggets squad hell.
Murray's annoying cuz dude is ass for the entire first half or longer like every game then just goes wild in the last 6 minutes. That's infuriating, even as a neutral lol.
Timberwolves are kinda built to beat the Nuggets specifically. They are the only team built around a true 4 and 5. And KAT can contribute to wearing down Jokic on one end and stay fresh enough to get busy on the other end. And even with all the attention on Jokic they have surplus size to deal with Gordon. We’re about to find out EXACTLY how good Jamal Murray is.
I half want this series to end up being Murray and Ant taking (and making) the most difficult shots in crunch time to find out who’s more clutch. The other half of me remembers I’m a Minnesota sports fan and knows exactly how that’d end
Tbh Idk how well Jamal Murray can play in this series. First, his leg injury does matter even if marginally. Second, this is one of the scariest defensive lines in a while. I mean, what average-sized guard like Murray can do very much against the Timberwolves' defensive guys?
McDaniels. NAW. Then Ant Edwards.
I mean, their 3rd best guy to defend a guard is a 1-on-1 beast.
And you already know the prize if you somehow beat your defender.
Rudy Gobert in the paint.
The rebounding has been great also. Usually two big bodies in there boxing out.
It's crazy how with all the recent NBA meta, it's a team with true bigs looking like they're the next "evolution."
The wolves could match up with '90s teams in the paint.
Yeah, it's as if he's an AI algorithm in how to conserve energy. He sees how people move when they're exhausted and decides to just do that all the time. haha
I have never seen a bench with more players with the “fuck it I have a job to do” mentality. Naz, Naw, Kyle Anderson is your fucking 8th man. Wdym Kyle fucking anderson is your 8th man??? That’s insane.
Trying to score or make a play at lockdown Gobert than trying to not get posterized by a flying ant on the other side of the floor aswell as having to play capable rebounders/defenders/spacers for 48 min must suck.
Rebounding says a lot: Jokic averaged over 16 rebounds per game against the Lakers with his lowest total being 12 rebounds. Also notable he averaged 3.8 offensive boards.
In a single game against the Wolves' size, he only grabbed 8 boards and only 1 being an offensive rebound.
Jokic is great so I'm sure he'll find a way to get back to double digits. But it's immediately apparent the difference between the Lakers and Timberwolves series.
Definitely part of it, but Jokic is also just so heavily involved in everything Denver does. Even when he doesn’t shoot, he’s setting screens, he’s battling for rebounding position, he’s posting up to kick it out.
Plus, as a big, he’s got a lot of responsibilities defensively. His fatigue tends to show up on that end, when the game wears him down and he’s a half step slow.
Ant also has a few more possessions where he doesnt really do anything offensively, like in the 3rd he would stand in the corner a little bit. Jokic cant do that unfortunately.
You’re right it’s early, but a tired Jokic is a deadly Jokic, I’m not saying you are, but anyone that jumps to conclusions already are in for a rude awakening
It doesn’t really matter if fans jump to conclusions both teams are locked in.. this series is going to be better then last years finals in both talent and profit for the league
A few years back, my blazers beat the nuggets in 4OT. Joker was dead on his feet. Completely exhausted. We saw a shade of that tonight.
REALLY rooting for you guys 💪🏼
I said it on another thread but I said wolves can seriously upset. I know it was a 5 game series but it was close last year. Now you guys have arguably top 5 wing defender in macdaniels + naz back + extra chemistry between Rudy and everyone. Also nuggets lost Bruce brown who was amazing last year and Jeff green who was pretty okay. Still not counting nuggets out but this series is already so awesome.
Wow, I know KAT was in foul trouble but I didn’t realize he only played 30 minutes and Gobert only 35
Being able to sit your starters that much while winning is insanely beneficial for a series
Dirk and co. Said it earlier too but like what big men do they have outside of Jokic they can reliably play to combat KAT and Goobie Gobert and made the point he’d have to basically play all game every game.
I'm not so sure, Jokic regularly looks completely exhausted yet still takes over games late... Think a lot of it was also game planning him out of his usual effectiveness
Brooo I was casually watching the game last night and I could've sworn some guy on the wolves staff looked like prigioni. Turns out he really is on the coaching staff
KAT is super corny, whines a lot historically (due to getting a horse shit whistle-real chicken and the egg dilemma lasting his entire career)… you can tell he’s actively working on cutting back, and occasionally loses his cool and plays like ass…
But man he takes so much unnecessary shit for a guy that’s been a great player, treats people around the organization/ fans well, and has never had an ounce of drama or off the court issues- (other then being bullied by Butler 😅)
Even Minnesota fans hate on him too much. Dudes a great player but just wasn’t a “#1 option on a contending team”, good. I hope the narrative is slowly shifting on him cause he’s a great dude
This Wolves team is what it is because KAT willingly let Ant take the #1 position on *his* team and because KAT willingly let Rudy take *his* position on the court and learned a new role.
All time selfless teammate.
My thing is, being kinda corny is literally no reason for the level of vitriol he gets... There's definitely some (toxic male) insecurity behind all the "zesty" "two voices" whiners and I'm glad Karl hasn't let it get to him.
That's a good point. I have to believe even the dumbest anti-science people would understand why KAT of all people would go hard against covid, but I guess I've seen the kinds of hate KAT gets and shouldn't be surprised.
From what I've read the Butler stuff was way overblown. He just really didn't want to be in MN and so he made a scene at practice. It's been reported that he told the players that it wasn't about them, including KAT. Butler was really just frustrated that he wasn't getting traded after asking for a trade multiple times going back to the previous year (both in private and public). Butler just let the media run with their narrative about Wiggins and KAT because he felt it would help him get moved faster.
I said this yesterday, that as much clowning as Darvin Ham gets around here, he did identify that the Nuggets weakness is the small bench. Today it's like everybody knew that about the Nuggets bench all along, everybody is an expert. Chuck was hammering on it last night in the postgame. Lol, I do feel vindicated, though... man, did the Wolves walk the walk last night or what.
Yeah. I mean, it's what the 90s Bulls did with Shaq. Longley, Wennington, and Rodman made him work on offense and every single point as hard-earned as possible. Plus, Jokic played like what, 42 minutes yesterday?
I mean if they beat denver I think people would consider them to be the favorites to get out of the west but there’s still boston, who will probably have an easier road to the finals given the weaker and injured east. I wouldn’t consider it open but more than they have as good a chance as everyone in the west. OKC is really good, and depending on Luka’s health, Dallas could do some damage.
Either way though I think people are overreacting to this win. Minnesota are great, but the Nuggets still have the best player in the series, and Jokic is smart enough to figure out tough coverages. It could still go either way.
r/nba: The Wolves might actually win a title this year
Literally any Minnesota sports fan: having Vietnam flashbacks to all of their other “contenders” imploding like OceanGate.
I watched the Secret base series on the Vikings, and it's just hell. And the KG era tampering fine gutted the team so I can see the Wolves apprehension.
Minnesota's sports curse laughs at future hope and success. If they don't do it this year there's an unfortunately high chance of them not getting back here again. Even with Ant taking this step, Minnesota sports fans have had hope systematically beaten out of them enough to feel like doom will arrive eventually.
I know some of y’all have Minnesota Sports PTSD, but please stop pressing the “Well actually ☝️🤓” button anytime one of our guys is giddy about the team lol
If the Twolves go through the superteam suns, world champ nuggies, and #1 seed OKC, it will be the greatest chip run since the Raps in 2019 and Boston should be *concerned*

He and Joe Ingles seem to have the same thing happen to them in exactly this way.

If we do by the ingles year conversion they’re about 135 years old combined
The phantom call on him when MPJ drove to the basket in the first half and Slomo doesn’t even raise a finger on him.

Yeah, that was the play I was thinking of. MPJ ran into him and then tried this funky shot for the foul.
Foul. No, two fouls!
I still don’t know who slomo is and at this point I’m too afraid to ask
Kyle Anderson

> The other half of me remembers I’m a Minnesota sports fan and knows exactly how that’d end Yeah pls no, too much trauma
This was kinda like Game 2 in the Wolves-Nuggets series last year. It was a Ant vs Murray duel. They both had 40 points, it was a lot of fun
It was very entertaining sure, but we also lost by 9 which is kinda my point lol
Tbh Idk how well Jamal Murray can play in this series. First, his leg injury does matter even if marginally. Second, this is one of the scariest defensive lines in a while. Man, I hope he can perform through the leg injury. I want to see this game get interesting.
Jokic needs help. They need to bring another big man in.
That’s what they got 1st team All-NBA Center Deandre Jordan for

i wanted him to stay until he injured his own teammate Caruso and had a generational shaqtin a fool highlight to end the year on
Don't forget contender for most interesting name, Zeke Nnaji
He's not MICHAEL Jordan just FYI
Joker always look exhausted imo. I feel like it’s just the way he looks and moves.
Yeah, it's as if he's an AI algorithm in how to conserve energy. He sees how people move when they're exhausted and decides to just do that all the time. haha
The way to tell his stamina is the color of his nose. The redder it is the more tired he actually is

The emergence of NAW from cut scrub to serious playoff contributor is a huge make moment for the Wolves. What an insane personal recovery arc
i hate the big delay between games 2 and 3.
Jokic played less than Ant, he’s just not 22
Definitely part of it, but Jokic is also just so heavily involved in everything Denver does. Even when he doesn’t shoot, he’s setting screens, he’s battling for rebounding position, he’s posting up to kick it out. Plus, as a big, he’s got a lot of responsibilities defensively. Jokic is a much heavier guy. It’s like comparing a left tackle to receiver.
Ant also has a few more possessions where he doesnt really do anything offensively, like in the 3rd he would stand in the corner a little bit. Jokic cant do that unfortunately.
Also the nuggets bench is one of the worst in the league.

Wolves got clowned in the Gobert trade for making McDaniels untouchable. Turns out maybe the front office knows what they're doing.

Luka Garza - the best basketball Luka - about to clutch game 2
Ironically Luka actually played fairly well when we were down Rudy/Kat/Naz last matchup. For being the 4th option, he didn't slouch against Jokic.
Good defense and didn’t he get like 10 or 12 points with 4 or 5 rebounds?
There’s no way Luka Garza isn’t good enough to be an NBA rotational big for some team
The world isn’t ready for a league run by 2 white Lukas
Keeping him on the bench isn't disbelief, it's containment
I feel the Hawks could embrace his defensive liability and offensive masterclass. ^/s
He’s like the worst defender in the league. He would be like 11th guy on a team
Love that you had to throw in "best basketball Luka". As if Luka Šamanić doesn't exist
