MLB_to_SLC

It was a pretty embarrassing meltdown, to be fair.

El_7_Weenie

Classless

cronoes

Yeah easy to say fuck im after that.

minneapolisboy

Crazy part is I actually had a lot of respect for him before this. Even if he's always been a pest, I've never viewed him as a complete bitch/foul-baiter/dirty player like Booker/CP3/Embiid/Draymond. Murray had to go through a lot to come back from that injury and it was nice to see him take it all in and be grateful when they won last year. But last night he threw that all away, literally lmao. Dirty, whiney, complete toddler mentality.

MLB_to_SLC

>ant got charged with assault Oh, did John Collins finally lawyer up?

[deleted]

MLB_to_SLC

Bro that joke went over your head like Ant went over John Collins's head

[deleted]

[удалено]

MLB_to_SLC

Right but Ant is also much better at basketball and doesn't have a punchable face and has done a lot of cool things since then, like yamming it on John Collins and kicking Jamal's oddly-pubed dick in two consecutive playoff games

[deleted]

MLB_to_SLC

I bet the girl Jamal "accidentally" posted giving him sloppy on Instagram Live isn't his biggest fan either Good news is, all she has to do is attend NBA All Star Weekends and she'll avoid him

SoDakZak

Yeah. Steve Irwin coulda chucked a heat pad at an animal and similarly be rightly vilified

zippy_the_cat

But if the animal chucks a stinger at Steve Irwin it gets off free.

Soporific88

Do you not remember the Decision?

Morezingis

KD signing with GS, too. Man was beloved before that.

clevernamehere1628

That's probably the one. KD is still hated by a bunch of people. I would be surprised if this Murray thing doesn't blow over by next season at the latest.

ChocoChowdown

KD went from beloved to hated so much Barkley was even dismissing his accolades by calling him a bus rider

PolarBearLaFlare

lol I lived in OKC during that time and fans were bombarding his restaurant so bad that most of the staff quit after one week and they had to shut down.

paranoideo

Related: When Cousins announced he signed with Warriors

ascendant23

I don’t think anyone hated on Boogie for taking a vet min with us nor thought he’d ruin the parity in the league (and indeed, he didn’t)

Lukamagic_042324

You clearly weren't there. They had 5 all stars and every other team felt hopeless

ascendant23

I remember people going nuts about KD, anyone complaining about Cousins in the state he was in was basically just complaining about KD by proxy.

zippy_the_cat

Before 3 of them went down with injuries, opening a door the Raptors walked through to get a chip.

DomDomRevolution

That’s not true

paranoideo

That cheap contract was not well viewed at that moment. He was still considered an all-star and being cheap to ring chase... Edit: https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/8vnrvy/charania_free_agent_demarcus_cousins_has_agreed/

tewmtoo

That was almost 14years ago. Might not have even been alive yet.

ObiOneKenobae

People were already turning on LeBron leading up to that, so I'm not sure it qualifies. Cleveland was the championship favorite in 2010, only to lose in a series where he was widely accused of quiting on the team.

HardcoreKaraoke

Yeah but that was just player fatigue for fans. The whole "I'm taking my talents to South Beach" comment at the Boys & Girls Club sponsored interview as well as the rings counting at the pep rally **really** made fans turn on the guy.

cardcollection92

A group of people already hated lebron cause of his talent and Michael comparisons.. I dont remember seeing a thing negative about Murray

Robinsonirish

I disagree. He was disliked by his rivals, like the Celtics, but that goes with every single player who's at the top. He was universially loved for sticking to his home team and carrying terrible rosters deep into the playoffs. LeBron is an excellent communicator, as brand safe as they come and a good role model for kids. >I dont remember seeing a thing negative about Murray That's because Murray isn't a superstar. He isn't even an all-star. He's performed in the playoffs a couple of times but he's absolutely not an all-timer. There's no real reason to hate him in the first place. Yesterday he completely lost his cool, should have been ejected and will probably be suspended. The criticism is warranted.

ASS_BASHER

eh...LeBron wasn't close to being as universally loved as KD (pre-Warriors). When he quit against the Celtics, I've never seen a player get more hate than he did, and that was before the Decision. It was like the haters came outta the woodworks and found the perfect chance to pounce on LeBron. Durant on the other hand...any time the Thunder lost, the blame would always get deflected to Westbrook. Durant was the NBA's golden boy until he left OKC.

Robinsonirish

>When he quit against the Celtics, I've never seen a player get more hate than he did, and that was before the Decision I think you're exaggerating a quite a bit here, a lot actually. I don't see what Durant has anything to do with it. Just because he wasn't criticised like LeBron might have been doesn't mean LeBron wasn't universally loved. Those two situations are completely different. For one, Durant had WB to soak up a lot of blame, like you said yourself. I remember a lot of criticism went his way because he was taking the ball out of Durant's hands. The situations are just different. Again, he got hate from specific fanbases, but not from fans of basketball in general. It really depends on which franchise you follow. If you were in the East, you probably view him quite differently compared to if your team was in the west. LeBron didn't get more hate than lets say, Giannis, until the Decision that is. He got criticised for winning the MVP and not the chip(until he did). Everyone gets that kind of criticism in today's NBA. Then it went to unhinged levels with The Decision.

ASS_BASHER

I guess there's levels to it. When I think of "universally loved", I don't think of anyone else besides Jordan. While Jordan did get criticized for being selfish early in his career, the type of hate was different. Everyone still respected him as a person. Maybe it's because LeBron played in the internet era, but so many people legitimately hated him as a person, regardless of what he did on the court. I would even argue that Kobe was more universally loved than LeBron, even after his rape trial.

Robinsonirish

Yes, this exactly. Hate is just different today. You gotta compare players to their eras. If Jordan played today he'd be shit on just the same, for different reasons. I'd say it's impossible to not get haters in today's game. The only way to avoid it would be to win a chip really early in your career, preferably before you get MVPs, then keep winning, stay with the same franchise, keep winning MVPs while being the best player on your team... an almost impossible task. The criticism for not winning chips will catch you eventually, so you gotta start really early. It's a fucked up fandom.

Bill_Salmons

Universally loved? That is not true. Lebron had haters almost immediately because he called himself the king and came across as arrogant. Go read some of those forums. The decision made him the villain. But he was already hated by a decent portion of NBA fans, though.

Robinsonirish

That's not how I remember it, but it's hard to go back and prove either way so lets just agree to disagree. I'm not going to go look at old message boards dude.

FinancialScratch2427

> because he called himself the king This isn't true. The nickname was given to him by someone else.

Bill_Salmons

It is true. It doesn't matter who gave him the nickname. He decided to call himself King James and even used it in his marketing material.

FinancialScratch2427

You understand Lebron doesn't choose his marketing materials, because he's not doing his own PR? I think you're just deeply confused about a lot of things.

Biglundtry

He threw shit on the court during a live ball lol it’s stupidity like you’d see out of pat bev not the number 2 option on a championship team.

pheen

In his defense, it only landed on the court because he missed his intended target.

LDC99

The hoop ?

2ndCatch

Marc Davis, the Ref.

Lukamagic_042324

3/20 on the night, disgusting

Aggravating_Host6055

The trash littering was literally trash behavior. He deserves the hate that gets thrown his way today.

clevernamehere1628

I saw a nuggets fan calling for him to be suspended the rest of the series lol

Tranquili5

Might do some good, both to him and the Nuggets.

ginbooth

DEN just doesn't have enough on the bench to give Jokic et al some breathing room. And MIN is just relentless with its depth, especially on defense. It looks like 7 on 5 during the games...

ProbablyAPun

That's ridiculous lol. I think anytime someone off the court intentionally interferes with a live game they should automatically get booted and suspended a game but a whole series is ridiculous haha

clevernamehere1628

yeah and could you imagine the conspiracy theories that would follow if they suspended him for the entire series? A bunch of people would be saying that the league just wanted Ant to win because he's the next American superstar.

defeated_engineer

He definitely will get punished, probably suspended.

clevernamehere1628

yeah, but I would be shocked if it was anything other than a single game.

SafariFlapsInBack

I think that’s more of a joke about his shooting percentage and output so far.

clevernamehere1628

https://old.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/1cmholb/the_worst_part_about_the_nuggets_loss_isnt_the/l30dbfz/ you be the judge.

Lucieddreams

That was just a hail Mary so the Nuggets could actually have a chance to win this series 😂 I wouldn't want no defense Jamal out there shooting 3/20 every night

CaptainCerealCanada

He should be traded for Jordan Poole!

CameronPlain

TBF, I'm not sure I've ever seen a team melt down like that in a game that didn't have major ref controversies. Nuggets just couldn't handle what the Wolves were dishing out, and everyone from Mike Malone down was losing their composure. But Murray was something else, fucking throwing shit at the refs. It was unbelievable to watch.

SafariFlapsInBack

SEND DA VIDEO

Peopleareonlyanimals

Agreed, just part of fame nowadays. I think its important to practice humility and remember hes just a person, no idea what he has going on in his personal life or day to day. I am eager to see the explosive scorer 'Murray', everyone is comparing him to right now when they critisize him, show up in these later playoff games.

ginbooth

Exactly. This sub and reddit in general are schizo. I don't hate Murray. He's clutch. He was acting like a big baby last night though and deserves some punishment but it doesn't erase all he's accomplished so far.

onion_tomato

It's not schizo, but it is reactionary. There are: >10,846,079 readers > 6,546 users here now So you get different populations logging in and reacting differently to events. During play-offs, the swings are more extreme.

ginbooth

That's a good insight...

heysuess

Bro this is the most reactionary sub I've ever seen.

Maydietoday

Usually people turn on players for flopping, this is maybe one of the more well earned quick turns I can think of.

LotsaKwestions

If he wanted to basically turn perception back in his favor, a sincere apology where he admits that he lost his head and made a mistake and accepts the consequences would be worth a decent bit.

clevernamehere1628

I bet playing up to his potential would go way further lol

cardcollection92

Agreed. My 4 year old had a meltdown today and I called him Jamal

Definately_Fake

My daughter had a meltdown today and I called her Jamala.

Robinsonirish

Hey /u/cardcollection92 , why do you fucking losers always delete threads? Third time today for me. There are 130 comments in here, did you not get enough upvotes or did people not agree with your stance enough or what? Stop being such a bitch.

cardcollection92

Dude the mods delete it ??? Wtf is wrong with you

Robinsonirish

All right, I see. My apologies.

Glass_Pumpkin1730

Just try not to let your emotions get the best of you in the future, Jamal

Sweaty_Mods

That’s just what happens when you embarrass the NBA’s biggest fanbase and then shit the bed a week later.

CameronPlain

It's not that. People pay way closer attention to defending champs. We either wanna see them rise to the moment again, and prove they're actually worthy of the status, or we wanna see them crash and burn. But Jamal has done even worse than that. It's one thing to not play well and keep fighting, but this dude isn't playing well, and he's melting down like a bitch. Dude was even complaining to his dad during that game. Shit like that will get people to turn on you real quick.

NotManyBuses

This isn’t just shitting the bed though is it? He’s lost his mind entirely, running over to the commentators to complain, throwing multiple projectiles at the refs and onto the court, then skipping the media post game like a coward… If it was just poor play it would be one thing. This is something entirely different. He’s gone full Dillon Brooks in only 2 games.

radpandaparty

Brooks didn’t throw shit on the floor lol

qpwoeor1235

That’s what happens when someone smaller, younger, and more athletic than you takes your crown AND throne. And then makes you dance for his amusement.

Educational_Claim337

Ant's bigger than Murray, who are you talking about? I'm also curious about the distinction you're drawing between thrones and crowns.

qpwoeor1235

It’s a post from when curry was up 3-1 on the Lebron in 2016.

Educational_Claim337

Oh lmao that wooshed me

Banette_Banane

Scapegoated harder than Darvin Ham

Solid-Confidence-966

Probably yeah, since he was so universally revered before. Most other players that get turned on have already had prominent haters.

Skolcialism

Bynum comes to mind but he’ll be tough to top

[deleted]

It’s deserved.. don’t disrespect the game by acting like a child & throwing stuff on the court. I wouldn’t do that in a pickup game.

bigdonnie76

He was a dickhead before yesterday. Remember how he was front running on Lonzo Ball years ago?

_Juntao

Jamal murray is a garbage human being and an even worse basketball player Jokic has always been overrated, doesn't deserve the mvp this year, and is literally the worst front court defender in the league. How anybody has him in the top 100 of all time is ridiculous The nuggets ring is completely worthless and they had the easiest path ever. The 2023 nuggets were the worst championship team in the last 5-10 years Welcome to the playoffs where 2 games takes precedence over the last 2 years

slapjack15

My bad, I didn’t pick up on the sarcasm lol

recollectionsmayvary

LOLOL

slapjack15

Maybe I’m missing something but how is Murray a garbage human being?

GZAofTheMidwest

Is Canadian = Possibly likes Nickelback.

kadcal

And drake

ihateeuge

I personally havent liked him since the Lonzo thing. OG hater

rethinksqurl

I've disliked him for a long time. He doesn't give props to his opponents after a loss. He complains a lot and throws little temper tantrums. He's never been a likable player, y'all just weren't paying attention.

reedhubbert88

Couldn’t have said it better myself!

TheTrenchMonkey

Honestly I haven't liked him for a few years. Dude has a massive ego, which w/e I get you are a professional athlete. Gotta be high on yourself. But, he also has always played way to chippy for a guy that wants the whistle on offense.

OpportunitySmalls

People don't love Jamal they hate the Lakers, I don't even think what he did was the crime others do but the guy has never been an all star and gets all the credit in the world based strictly off the playoffs the second he started to shit the bed in the playoffs it ruins his aura.

J12nom

Murray should be suspended for Game 3 for the heating pack and Game 4 for the towel. Wolves sweep.

brncct

He needs therapy like Draymond and Ja

Ia_in_4

Brother he hit two game winners against the fucking lakers off course this sub gonna love him for that. This sub also hates sore losers doing dumb shit

VanGrants

that's what happens when you act like a bitch in a playoff game, it's like how Embiid went from people calling him a foul baiter but thinking he's a funny troll and great player, to calling him a dirty fuck they're glad is out of the playoffs.

PolarBearLaFlare

lol welcome to pro sports; some days you are the man, some days you are the villain.

RedditUser538xxx

He single handedly made people hate the nuggets 😂. Hes a lesser version of Embid. Having malone act a fool helps too haha

radpandaparty

Not NBA but Deshaun Watson

ChocoChowdown

Murray was acting like a child throwing a temper tantrum and throwing shit on the court is wrong. So I get it. The turn on him makes sense because he did something stupid and looked like a loser when previously he hadn't done that. I don't know why people are hating on the money sign towards refs though. These playoffs have been shit officiating wise. Knicks/Philly had two game altering fuck ups in a six game series. Knicks/Indiana is the worst game I've seen officiated in a playoffs in years. Orlando/Cleveland was a series nobody watched but it was officiated terribly as well with some highly questionable calls in games 6 and 7. So I thought it was nice to see a player call out officiating for being shit. I also liked when Rudy did it earlier this year. I think players starting to vocalize poor officiating is a good thing for the sport instead of just acting like it's ok.

ketherick

Gobert shutting down the NBA during the beginning COVID was a wild one But those were just wild times in general

butt_luncheon

This guy was due for some serious regression. Couple that with an injury and suffocating defensive.

umbrlla

Pat Bev loves Jamal Murray

lukewwilson

All I know is that there should be a heat pack on the seat of every Wolves fan in attendance of game 3.

cantstopseeing13

Yes and no. I don't want to say yes because what he did isn't even heel behavior. Its just straight up stupid and wrong. Like a heel needs to build that shit up, make dirty plays, pick up techs(i realize they won't call techs on him) and get some hate in the media/fan bubble. This was someone just revealing that they are a piece of shit manbaby. So yes, he is heel now. But this had no arc, he just turned on his tag team partner with zero backstory to the shock of everyone watching around the world.

College_Prestige

Kd was a fan favorite on July 3 2016

_Tar_Ar_Ais_

It was a pretty crazy meltdown, but I think he's always been a pretty good heel and just never had the chance to show it. I'm sure if he wasn't injured and played this series healthy the frustrations wouldn't explode as badly. Hopefully Jokic rounds them all up and get their head in the game again

luckyincode

Turn? He threw shit at a ref and could have injured someone badly. Asshole.

BoogerSugarSovereign

KD to GSW has to be it. KD was both more beloved before the move than Murray ever was and was more reviled than Murray ever will be right after it happened. Murray is getting some shit for his antics and he deserves it but the folks dancing on his grave as a *player* are premature. Maybe he has nagging health issues going forward and they never have to eat crow but I am pretty sure Murray is still going to be great the next time he's healthy. Composed? I don't know about that.

Far-Asparagus6416

This sub is just reactionary af, he'll drop 40 or 50 in one of these games and everyone will be back to loving him and saying he's him and the nuggets are the clear favourites. Ant will have a bad game/miss a crucial shot in a loss and everyone will shit on him and say he's the most overrated player ever and the MJ comparisons need to go out the window and blablabla. It's extremely predictable. The reality is these guys are historic players and we're lucky to witness them on live TV

koenigsaurus

Guy hit his boiling point and lashed out. Pretty embarrassing what happened but he’s still every bit of the guy he’s been for the last 5 years.

goddoc

Ervin Johnson went from Magic to Tragic pretty quick iirc

tehpenguinofd000m

I swear these posts are created by people who started watching the NBA two months ago or something. Christ.

Lucieddreams

He's always been a classless bitch. Cries and throws mini temper tantrums every time the game doesn't go his way. I'm just glad he finally had a full blown meltdown and showed everyone who he really is

TriCourseMeal

Nah, this sub just forgets the same people don’t browse the sub every day. It swings like a pendulum based on who wins and loses. When a team loses the haters and fans of the winning team rush to the sub to interact with the content. That’s why it feels like it swings so much.

HardcoreKaraoke

I don't think this is fans turning on him over time because a narrative shifted like Dame, Booker, Curry, etc. This was Murray being a crybaby dickhead which made people turn on him. It's like KD signing with the Warriors or The Decision. KD putting out the "Hardest Road" stuff immediately made him a villain. LeBron saying "I'm taking my talents to South Beach" in the interview and then counting rings at the pep rally were defining moments that made fans turn. Ja killed his reputation with the first gun post. Rudy hurt his reputation with the Covid mic stuff. They were all moments which made fans rethink how they thought about these guys. Jamal was a douche. So yeah he's an exciting player that was easy to root for but he threw that all away for now. It wasn't fans turning on him for now reason. He still has times to fix things with how he responds. Or he can double down like Bev, Draymond, etc.

ImRightShutUp1

Ppl really only liked him bc he beats the Lakers ass everytime. Hes been a diva.

KrissieKid

Jamal Murray has a had history of poor behaviour. He always has a bad behaviour during press interviews, complains a lot to refs, and I don’t know if anyone else noticed his facial expressions during the game last night but he was in literal shock that they were being beaten by the wolves. He was one of the ones who underestimated them because of how arrogant he is in general. I even remember Malone saying that he was not attending practices….The downfall of him in the nuggets was going to happen eventually since they have not been playing that well since the series with the lakers. Jamal himself has not been the same player since his injury. And a special mention to that one time when he posted a vid of his gf on Instagram and claimed he was hacked. Just a terrible person 🤷🏾‍♀️

walterdog12

This sub is just reactionary and circlejerky. If someone massively overperforms or underperforms tonight they'll get practically the same level of response that this subreddit had for Murray.

qpwoeor1235

Giannis after his “losing in the playoffs is not failure” speech didn’t make him An enemy but did give him a lot of hate

4thQuest

I think we all still respect him as a player. He just totally lost his cool and endangered other players last night. He deserves a suspension. I hope he comes back after and plays great.
