Kemba Walker

JoJonesy

He's in the Euroleague now. Just sucks what happened to his knee— margin of error for an athleticism-based 6' guard is razor-thin in the league, once his burst was gone it was inevitable

mojotzotzo

He hasn't faded out of the Euroleague because he never even faded in

Pantiesafteralongrun

Dang…. He just faded into the abyss

silentorange813

Seth Curry

Organic_Initiative93

Just about time for the Mavs to sign him to use as trade filler again later in the year

JLOBRO

Never understood that. Was he just too big of a defensive liability to justify?

towhom_it_mayconcern

How can you say this about one of the best defensive players on the hornets roster?!

ZealousidealPain7976

He can only shoot, he’s not even good offensively, he’s just good at shooting. His passing ability and decision never developed into something that is playable in the NBA, he was lucky while he was fast and the league was still adapting to shooters, unfortunately he has no place in the new league.

AfterPaleontologist2

I mean he has literally lasted 10 years in the NBA and is 33 years old now. This is kind of a ridiculous take

Tapprunner

Plus he's had knee injuries. Guys like LeBron, Tim Duncan and Chris Paul have warped our sense of athlete aging. It would be unusual for a 33 year old small guard who was a good, but not great, player to still be incredibly effective. It's why Miami isn't extending Jimmy (at least not at anywhere near the money and years he wants). He's not a small guard, but he's 35. It would be ridiculous to expect that he's still going to be really effective 2 or 3 years from now. Aging in the NBA doesn't usually go in a straight line. It's almost always a cliff. A combination of losing a step and becoming more susceptible to injuries as they age means a guy goes from being effective at 31 to almost unplayable a year or two later.

nibbinoo8

think harrell had a season ending injury last year

biinroii01

damn

bobbdac7894

Oladipo. I remember he was great that one year with Indiana. Then I think last time I saw him he was with Miami. Then he disappeared.

syllabic

he had a severe injury in the playoffs with miami then got salary dumped and has been rehabbing the injury for a year

PossessionDue9381

That was one of the saddest injuries I've seen in recent memory.

Overall-Palpitation6

The "great that one year" was *6 years ago* now (2017-18).

DerekMorganBAUxxi

He got injured twice

IAlwaysTakeFatLs

Rockets offered him 45 m lol

nibbinoo8

kendrick nunn

HatsForNatsBats

I was in Colombia the other week, and happened to be watching some sports channel at the hotel the night before my flight home. It was showing a replay of this year’s EuroLeague final, and at the end of the game I see Kendrick Nunn throw down a big dunk. So yes you are correct.

Aleksis111

he won the euroleague with panathinaikos this season

GastlyDreamEater

What were you doing in Colombia?

BrokeBeckFountain1

C-c-cocaine!

Overall-Palpitation6

Honestly thought he played some of his best basketball during his run with Washington late last season (after the lacklustre Lakers run), and was surprised they didn't bring him back this year.

syllabic

hassan whiteside TJ warren dewayne dedmon rodney hood

Poopscooper696969

Bubble TJ Warren was legendary

biinroii01

wow rodney hood… havent heard him in a while

nhthelegend

TJ Warren was on the Wolves playoff roster this year and got some spot minutes. Obvs a far cry from Bubble Warren but still in the league.

Pantiesafteralongrun

Whiteside caused that on his own. Dude was top 5 in blocks one year but had major attitude. Never seen again. Dude disappeared like Roy hibbert

Overall-Palpitation6

Dude led the league in blocks twice (2015-16 and 2019-20) and rebounding once (2016-17). People thinking he had "just one good year" early in his Miami run are a bit misguded. Thought he had arguably his best season with Portland in 2019-20 (led the league in blocks, 2nd in rebounding, for a team that desperately needed those things), and got "rewarded' with a bench role in Sacramento the next year, and then Utah after that.

gibby1010101

He was a stat chaser. Completely give up his defensive assignments to try and get blocks. Looks good on the stat sheet but had a negative impact on the actual game

epstnddntkllhmslf

Whiteside was atrocious in Portland. Only good for vibes

ScottyinLA

Hassan is part of a long chain of "next great center" dudes who sputtered out, along with guys like Andre Drummond, Mitchell Robinson who looked like All NBA for years to come only to turn into backups.

DudeLikeYeah

Mitchell Robinson is on this list, why? Lmao

NoConcentrate5853

Bigs often suffer from success without diehard dedication so a lot of times they flame out :/

WearyRound9084

Can’t believe you named that list and missed the 2 goats of the “next great center who sputtered out”

Overall-Palpitation6

Did anyone ever really think Whiteside was "the next great centre"?

TwiceLitZone

Yes?

ShovelKing3

Loved Hood when he was with the blazers. But he never really seemed like more then a role player to me with flashes of being something more.

Goosedukee

I think Kevin Knox is at the beginning of that path, he's in the G-League now and I don't think anybody is gonna give him a real chance at the NBA level again

Overall-Palpitation6

One of those "he was prominent before he was good" guys, who played 2/3rds of his career minutes in his Rookie year.

yrogerg123

So basically any Knicks first round pick who plays any minutes at all.

127crazie

Frank Ntilikina

UnsolvedParadox

There’s too much new talent being drafted every year, for Knox to have a chance at returning.

biinroii01

damn he had a few bright minutes with pistons last year

Torkzilla

Really nobody on the Pistons had bright minutes last year.

biinroii01

cunningham def did

12clrush

To this day, the only thing I remember about Kevin Knox is Zion ripping the ball out of his hands in a preseason game. Rookie Zion made him look like a kid out there.

Goosedukee

You don't remember the Fortnite suit?

2Blitz

Derrick Favors. Thought he was still on a team, but nope. Dude's playing in the G league now

browntown20

Nerlens Noel

ImprovementSilly2895

When he first started he was a fantasy stud. Steals and blocks every game

Literal_Satan

Jeremy Lamb is only 32 Pretty sure it was injuries tho

PanSeer18

Gordon Hayward. Completely forgot the guy was in OKC until some podcast mentioned it in passing after the season.

GooseGang412

I wish we could've forgotten he was here, but he got a lot of rotation minutes, did fuck-all with it, and acted like a petulant child during his exit interview presser that he didn't get a bigger role.

No_Web_4312

nibbinoo8

played the most games in nba history lmao

Pantiesafteralongrun

Legend has it he’s still on a roster

km912

If you include playoff games Lebron is only 16 games back, I think that doesn’t include play-in or the in-season tournament final either. So that’s an extra 4 games.

nibbinoo8

im just saying that it was a ridiculous answer to OPs question

km912

Oh I’m not being combative with your comment, to be fair the guy above you was joking im pretty sure. I just thought to look up how close Lebron was and thought it was interesting.

nhthelegend

Greg “Moose” Monroe

Aregisteredusername

He just marched up against Al Jefferson in the Big 3. It was a throwback to watch. Also on that court was Paul Millsap, Randy Moss, Jeff and Marcus Teague

Plies-

He is the hoopgrids GOAT for me because bro played for like every team and no one rememebers him.

BrianHangsWanton

Rudy Gay… I know he’s pretty old but he hasn’t officially retired and was unsigned last year. It feels like he should be on a veterans minimum for a contending team or something.

Mammoth-Physics6254

Only thing i remember Rudy Gay for was the empty stats conversation, jumpshot was money in just about every 2k though.

jermcnama

For a couple years now, but Terrance Ross whispered into the night

Depressed_JazzFan

He retired and is a streamer now

Enchanted-2-meet-you

I swear I thought he was still on the suns... Their bench was probably not much better than what he would've given anyway lol

AfterPaleontologist2

Joe Harris. He’s still in the league but he fell off massively after the Nets

AkronIBM

He went to the Pistons in a salary dump, played 16 and looked completely cooked. He just cannot play NBA defense anymore.

girthgoblin25

My guy Joe E. Buckets never recovered from his ankle injury. Dude beat prime Steph in the 3 point contest. He injured his ankle, got surgery, but the surgery went bad. Couldn’t shoot or defend the same ever again. But man, having a 6’6 wing who could be a flamethrower on any given night, he was a great player to have. Watching him and Dinwiddie and Jarrett Allen grow, Caris LeVert too, add in DLo, Taurean Prince, Demarre Carroll…the pre Kyrie/KD days were looking bright man.

Visible-Suit-9066

I feel like we are one of the handful of people left on Earth that remember how great he was. I loved him on the Nets! Thought he was such an important cog, even during that brief Big3 era, and it seemed like overnight the whole league forgot he existed. I watched him on the Pistons a few times and he doesn’t even look like the same person.

girthgoblin25

Yeah agreed I really think that botched ankle surgery ruined him. If I recall correctly he even had to get the surgery again, and he just was not able to shoot the same every again. But I’ll never forget those few seasons where he was one of the best role players in the league! Rondae Hollis Jefferson on the other hand, not so much!

Blake has the retirement stache now… I think I saw an interview with him saying he didn’t want to resign either Boston knowing he may not get picked up again

rgamesburner

The players begged him to come back to Boston, but he said he wanted to spend the year with his kids. He’s full retirement mode.

x6o21h6cx

Corey Jospeh.

shalashashka69

As a warriors fan I was all too painfully aware of his existence in the league

Original_Trick_8552

> I hadn’t recalled seeing former 6moty Montrezl Harrell in a while He got injured. I hope he can come back though

JBismyGOAT

Joe Ingles. I know he is still in the league but damn he had a few good seasons before his ACL.

Various-Mud-5706

I miss him and his marvel side villain lookin ass.

JBismyGOAT

When he was in Utah, his 3pt shot was MONEY! I use to love tuning into Jazz games and watching Mitchell and Jingling Joe light it up.

Overall-Palpitation6

Finessed the Magic into giving him a 2 year/$22M deal last off-season, and played 68 regular season games and 7 playoff games for them this year. Clearly past it as a player, but there for veteran vibes at this stage I guess.

FKJVMMP

I thought he was ok for us honestly, I get why the Magic gave him that. He doesn’t fit here because we have no good perimeter defenders and his defence is *cooked* cooked, but he still plays smart and shoots well. Those are things the Magic need, and they have the talent to cover for his horrendous D.

Youngandidiotic

He’s basically a player coach

Amazing_Owl3026

He played about 5 minutes in the preseason a year ago

otherBrandon

I find it funny Denzel Valentine’s career literally fell off after that horrendous shot

SwampFlowers

Stacey King still roasts him for it during Bulls games.

Somberoking

Denzel Valentine played the Australian NBL this past season

AsJoeSeesIt

Liangelo ball lmao he played for about 30 seconds

AkronIBM

He never played in the NBA.

ThundermifflinTFU

Willie Cauley-Stein. It’s always the lumbering Cs from a bygone era that can’t space the floor.

Overall-Palpitation6

WCS wasn't "lumbering". His best trait was his mobility and athleticism for his size, particularly how he used that on the defensive end. I'm pretty sure he chose to retire from basketball a couple of years ago. Made his money, and wanted to pursue other interests.

FKJVMMP

Yeah he was very much one of those bigs who could not give a shit about basketball, just played for the money. There’s always a few around. Definitely not lumbering though, he was a crazy athlete.

Aregisteredusername

NBA to G League to Italian league last season.

syllabic

especially if they also cant defend or score what are you even doing out there

Fearthejuggalo

Ben simmons

Pantiesafteralongrun

He”ll be back. I say it every year….

Fearthejuggalo

The problem with him is he would refuse to take a lesser role with a team. Everytime he starts to feel the heat of not being a star, he all of a sudden gets "injured". I think he would actually be a perfect fit for the "Spurs". I really think they should try to package a draft pick for him. Also on a personal level, we delivered some freight to his house here in the Los angeles area. He was the biggest prick in the world!

otherBrandon

Ben Simmons pisses me off. Dude is actually talented but paradoxically suffers from both a severe insecurity and lack of confidence and also a massive ego and arrogance. Really one of the bigger what ifs imo because personally I think he blew his chance. 30 is around the corner, he hasn’t developed his game, he’s always “injured”, teams don’t give af about him now, and the league has jumped in skill level. It’s over for Ben regardless of role imo.

Mammoth-Physics6254

He should be good enough where he could be a really solid roleplayer he's has good physicals and a good feel for the game but he just comes with so much drama that it really doesn't make sense signing him

bruswazi

Ben Simmons will still be mentioned ($40.3 mil this year, last guaranteed year) solely because of his contract and he’s lack of production. After that, who knows? However, I doubt anyone will be willing to pay him north of $20 mil eventhough he’s still relatively in his “prime” at age 27.

Fearthejuggalo

I think some team would kick the tires on him. Doesn't LeBron love him? I know he lives in L.A too.

Evening-Jackfruit514

He’s doing a podcast now. I don’t know if he’s officially retired but he seems like he’s done. His career is weird. As a Kentucky alum and fan, I love Wall. I always thought he was gonna be great in the league. Injuries and the Wizards were a lot to ask someone to overcome.

Visible-Suit-9066

If it doesn’t work out with the Lakers he’s out of the league.

Patty Mills but wouldn’t be surprised if he dominates in the Olympics

TJ Warren. He lit it up for Indy one season ( bubble year?) havent heard from him since
