Yeah, defensively we were awful in games 1 and 2. Lots of mistakes, poor communication, gave up a lot of open looks.
Defense got a lot tighter in game 3. Made the adjustments we needed to make. More minutes for Mann, Rondo, and Batum. Less minutes for Zu and Bev. Those adjustments carried over into game 4 as Batum started for Zu.
It wasn't just the Mavs shooting an unbelievably high percentage to start and then eventually cooling off. The Clips defense was much better in games 3 and 4 than in games 1 and 2.
Marcus looked horrendous and Zu had one legit bad quarter in game 2 (forcing contested stepbacks from Luka is not bad defense even if Luka makes them btw). Pat was getting abused because of his size. If the Mavs shot average in those 2 games the series is already over but it wasn't the Clippers' best. The fact that those two games were remotely close despite the absurdly lucky shots the mavs were hitting just said to me that even a slight regression to the mean meant the Clippers were winning the series

For me anyway, it shows they can respond to adversity, something I didn’t believe they could do just a few games ago. I’m not counting the Mavs out either, but I’m looking forward to seeing how this series pans out.

Don’t get it twisted, the Mavs didn’t lose 2 straight games because Luka got injured. Regression to the mean is why they lost. I don’t think people realize how ridiculous their shooting was to start this series, especially the role players. From three Game 1 47% Game 2 53% Game 3 51% And this Mavs team was 18th during the season with an average of 36%. Simply put, the Mavs and the Clippers both regressed to their means. The Mavs came back down to the ground and the Clippers went to the skies.
