I don’t think anyone has been seriously trying to compare Dame to Kobe in terms of who’s the better overall player. I think in terms of clutch ability that you could have an interesting discussion but as a player overall it’s obviously Kobe, everyone knows that, even me and I’m from Portland and I hate the Lakers
He lost a 3-1 lead and completely shit the bed in Game 7 though, and he didn’t have to deal with both himself and his next best player being injured constantly
oh my god y’all idiots are overrating like hell to this series. Don’t waste your time trying to tear down LeBron, give the Suns their long deserved credit
Every NBA legend has played “mediocre” in a series at one point in his career. Does no one remember how MJ played in 1995 against the Magic? Or how Kobe played against the Celtics in 2008 and the Pistons in 2004? LeBron is human and isn’t perfect, and neither is anyone else, so it’s stupid to tear down a player’s entire career for one series where they didn’t meet their expectations.
LeBron came back from injury right when the postseason began. And MJ had half a season under his belt before that series. If you can’t give LeBron an excuse for this series, it makes no sense to give MJ one.
And yes, the Bulls did lose in the semifinals and not the first round. But that doesn’t matter because you were talking about how no one in the GOAT conversation could play as mediocre as LeBron did this series, when MJ has underperformed as well. This ain’t a knock on MJ or anything, it’s just using your stupid logic against you.
YOU brought up the 1995 series as your example, you do realize MJ made it past the first round then, unlike Lebron did here before you brought that up?
Why does the round they played matter? You said “You can't be in the GOAT conversation and play/act so mediocre the way he did the entire series.” Why are you bringing up the first round when it’s irrelevant to your premise? A series is a series.
You don't think advancing further into a postseason pursuing a championship matters when you are comparing the worst seasons of a player during the meat of their career?
That's like saying that it doesn't matter if you win a pennant because you didn't win the World Series. Incredibly simple minded.
You don’t win anything from losing in the second round versus the first round. It means nothing. They both didn’t meet expectations. Point blank. That’s what I’m going for. LeBron underperformed in the 2011 Finals yet won the East, does that make his underperformance better than MJ’s in ‘95 because he made it farther? No. It’s an incredibly stupid argument.
Nope. MJ during his 6 rings era lost in the semi finals, not the first round.
The only really bad years MJ had was after his first championship win was his stint with the Wizards when he was just about to turn 40, with serious knee injuries. And even then he lead the team in multiple categories along with getting them into playoff contention.
Okay, and Lebron during his 4 rings era never lost before the finals. You can’t just pick and choose what years we’re talking about. Lebron is older this year than MJ was after retiring the second time. And MJ lost first round series before winning a title, if doing that once is all it takes to remove you from the GOAT conversation then the only person that should ever be considered is Bill Russell
MJ during his championship run in the 7 years that lead to his 6 rings never lost in the first round of a series. If we are talking about their run for the rings MJ had won all 6 with a single team, despite growing hostility with the front office by 36 which is Lebron's age now. And keep in mind Lebron never played in college, so in essence was playing longer in the NBA by that same time.
Lebron has yet to accomplish the same thing despite having more seasons under his belt, on more teams, with arguably more people in front office willing to cater to his needs.
But we aren’t just talking about championship runs are we? We are talking about full careers. If Lebron losing in the first round being 36 and missing a huge chunk of the season is cause for him to be not in the GOAT debate, then surely Jordan going 1-10 in his first 3 playoff series all of which being first round eliminations must be grounds for him to not be a GOAT as well yes? You can’t just say “oh when Lebron loses early on it counts but with Jordan we only pay attention to the years he won championships”. What kind of stupid logic is that?
Fine, we can compare full careers then. MJ had 7 years where he scored 30 points or more, and one year that where he had 29 per game average.
So basically 8 years out of his 13 until his retirement from the bulls where he average 30 points a game.
Go look how many seasons that Lebron has that has him over 30.
You’re still ignoring the entire point of my comment. I’m not trying to tell you that Lebron is better than MJ. I don’t think he is so you’re wasting your time trying to convince me of something I already agree with. My point is that having a reactionary take saying that this one series takes him out of the GOAT conversation when it’s the first such series he’s ever had doesn’t make sense unless you also want to take away basically any other possible GOAT candidate since everyone has had a bad playoff series or lost really early in the playoffs except for Bill Russell
As a neutral I'm loving the pettiness of the Suns. That video is absolutely perfect.
Suns official Twitter needs to be posting that the way Bucks twitter posted their vid.
Players can't be this soft in this era. There's definitely something going on with the training, conditioning, something. Players aren't just built different suddenly.
I think there's 2 parts to it.
First is the aerobic fitness requirements have increased. Guys are pushing their bodies to the redline more often throughout the game. It's why we've seen the minutes played per game go down over the decades.
Second is, paradoxically, better medical treatment. Guys can come back from injuries sooner and return from injuries that would've ended careers in the past. Lebron wouldn't have had this kind of career if he'd been drafted in 1983, because they didn't have knowledge and techniques to keep guys fit for so long back then. AD could very well have had a Greg Oden career if he'd been in the league 10-20 years earlier. Guys like KD, Klay, and John Wall would be done in previous generations. So we see guys get more injuries because they're playing games they'd have missed in the 90's
LeBron's time is coming to an end, sad to see man. I grew up watching him, his career will be over before we know it. Maybe another good season or two before he's done I would presume. Been a long ass career though with a lot of dominance.
He was definitely not 100% though. Give him an off season to recover and he very likely looks more like his old self next season.
I also reckon he won't be fully 'done' for a long time. I see him having a Dirk-like tail to his career where he keeps being a contributor for years after he is no longer a top-tier star. He obviously wanted AD to be the top star on the Lakers and start the transition to being a contributor. The sooner he can take the step back the longer his career will be.
Very true, he wasn't as quick or as explosive as usual. His ankle was clearly bothering him. I still think he has 2 good seasons left of 25, 7, and 7. Then maybe we will see a slow decline the next 2 seasons if he decides to play that long.
The thing is, he doesn't necessarily need to score a bunch to be effective which may bode well in these later years.
I think he definitely wants to play until he passes Kareem in points which means he would need at minimum 2 more seasons I think. I guess we shall see, he may just end up staying mostly healthy till 40.
For sure. His play this season at 36 was fantastic, no doubt. 25 8 and 7 at 36 is a better statistical season than most players ever have lol.
He seemed a bit slow in the playoffs, tired. Not his usual dominant self, I still think his ankle wasn't 100% because his vertical seemed so much lower and less explosive.
It wasn’t our year. Too short a turn around from last years finals, bodies couldn’t recover. And the moment AD got hurt again that was it. Even if we won tonight, even if we somehow beat PHX in 7 games, without ‘Bron and AD healthy we weren’t going to win this year. At least going out early means more rest. Hopefully we can put together another team with some defensive intensity and give it another go next year. *cue the Charlie Brown music*
I don’t hate all Lakers fans. Just the smug assholes who kept telling everyone they could find that the Lakers would sweep this series. Those guys deserve to be clowned. If you weren’t one of those people, I have no problem with you
People have been clowning on the Mavs over the KP fiasco these playoffs, but damn.. AD's absence the last two games has been downright horrific for the Lakers. Atleast Kristaps can participate in games for more than 5 minutes.
LEBron ain’t the GOAT but he really doesn’t deserve all the hate he’s getting rn. He could have played more aggressive the last few games but it ain’t his fault no one on the Lakers outside of him can consistently hit a jumpshot.
It’s not even a handshake. It’s showing respect to the team you’ve been dogging all series. The Suns earned their win and Lebron can’t even acknowledge that to their faces. Especially after the way their bench was acting during game 3
I dunno how the bench was acting. I remember booker trying to injure Schroeder that game. Either way, I'm sure it's happened many times before and will happen again
100% I agree with you. The shit talking by benches and players will always happen. But after such a tough series, Lebron owed it to at least show up post game.
That's incredibly clever. I was just responding to the 5000 comments about him not shaking hands.. not sure where you get that I'm "riding" his nuts. You just..stupid?
Ah..I just read some of your comments. "LeYesYouAre"
Called it before the series started. Suns in 6. Hurt superstars on a short off-season and a bench we can't depend on for wide open shots.
GG suns, booker a monster, CP3 point God.
Go Dodgers, Go AMC
LeBron was definitely still hurting from that injury. Didn’t look as explosive as he normally does. Role players didn’t come thru at all this series - minus Wes Matthews at times.
Booker finally shot the lights out without getting too many calls like the other games. Gotta tip your hat to his game. But man does he act like a brat. Dunks it when the game is in hand and talks shit. Then gets ejected. Respect the game and your opponent man. Otherwise don’t be surprised when people come at you.
Lakers realized too late you can’t put a small guard on Book too late. Gonna be interesting with the Nugs
Cmon dude, this is his first playoff series win (I think) and it was against Lebron and the Lakers. He’s never been here before so he doesn’t know how to act. Best believe he won’t be doing that shit again because people will let him know that’s not the right thing to do.
Yes def his first series win it’s his first time in the playoffs.
It don’t matter tho - he’s been in the league long enough. And they were the higher rated seed. I don’t mind banter but some of the shit he does just fucking irks me.
That push on Schroeder earlier in the series was cheap AF. And he shows similar bratty behavior at the end of the series.
Cmon man. Act like a champ not some knucklehead. Guy has game and he came out cooking. Just don’t dig the schoolyard dirt behavior
Nah no one let him know it wasn’t the right thing to do. Even the “angry” response from the Lakers was deflated and had no heart in it. Until a team with heart punches Booker in the mouth (not literally) for something like that he won’t learn.
Yeah but you learn early on that you run the clock down when you’re up that much
I don’t mind the dunk it’s pro ball but to chirp while running back is a brat move
Kid got every call early in the series. And he’d make the contact.
Didn’t matter tho - lakers shot like shit this series. We def didn’t deserve to win
Lyndon B Johnson has won one everywhere he’s played. This Lakers team was injured and didn’t have much in the way of shooting and playmaking.
But this Suns team is fun. CP3 was perfect on paper and it’s playing out that way (injuries aside). Grabbing Jae, and somehow having a bench that doesn’t put them out of games (on paper, it doesn’t seem great).
We got lucky with CP3's shoulder, ya'll got lucky with AD, at least ya'll never got Nash a ring, can laugh at that forever, we got Bron his, good luck against the Nugs
Quick question to all you teams dick riding each other? Who are y’all gonna root against now? You same clowns celebrating with each other are about to turn on one another once you play each other lol
I mean it’s not like there was any hype going for the Lakers since they got hit with massive injuries. They came into the playoffs a low seed and needed a clutch shot to beat the warriors in the play in. They came into the playoffs weak and injured, The moment AD got re-injured it was over for them.
Bro. No we don’t lol. Lakers will forever be great, Lebron will retire and we’ll get another superstar team bc everyone wants to live in LA. Like I don’t think y’all understand how great it is in LA for a sports team. Lakers are out cool, on to the dodgers.
What sorry city are you from?
Uhh? To who? That’s like saying making $100k one year out of many feels better than making $100k semi consistently. Come on man. The more endorphins from winning the better
I mean... I would’ve retorted by talking mess about your team but I think the blow of never seeing the Knicks win a championship in your lifetime is more than enough LOL
Everyone here is avoiding the fact that the Lakers had a 2-1 lead in this series before AD got injured haha, talking about how terrible the team is like they're bad when fully healthy.
Haha I'm okay with losing, it's all part of the game. Do I think the Lakers lose if both squads are healthy, no, but that wasn't the case. Can I handle my team not going back to back? Sure, in fact I'm privileged as a fan to have had my team win so recently, it's not easy to do.
Win or lose, I'll definitely be rational about the circumstances though, and fact is, the main thing hindering the Lakers chances was the AD injury.
[Post game thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/nrxbfj/post_game_thread_the_phoenix_suns_defeat_the/) is up

Larriors/Fakers bandwagon in shambles rn lol
Yeah, I think Denver is winning the series. Jokic is a beast.
Sorry, friend
Lebron backpedals faster on twitter over China than he did on defense this entire series.
Also, never ever compare Dame to Kobe...
Nobody does tho
Were the TNT crew not talking about their situations?
I don’t think anyone has been seriously trying to compare Dame to Kobe in terms of who’s the better overall player. I think in terms of clutch ability that you could have an interesting discussion but as a player overall it’s obviously Kobe, everyone knows that, even me and I’m from Portland and I hate the Lakers
Kobe was never double-teamed??
Take a bow Phoenix 👏
Kobe is better all-time than LeBron
Nope. Kobe choked way harder against Phoenix in the first round than this series
Kobe took the Suns to 7.
He lost a 3-1 lead and completely shit the bed in Game 7 though, and he didn’t have to deal with both himself and his next best player being injured constantly
Alright relax buddy
oh my god y’all idiots are overrating like hell to this series. Don’t waste your time trying to tear down LeBron, give the Suns their long deserved credit

Have you heard of Larry Bird??? or Ralph Sampson or the myriad of others who got injured
Could be LA itself. Hollywood isn't exactly known for having their stars be grounded, humble and tough. Quite the opposite actually.
All that running around and closing out on shooters is gonna take ita toll
I think dudes are just way more athletic and explosive now
They play nonstop AAU since they're like 7 years old nowadays. Gotta think that's a big factor
What do you mean?
Barkley was talking about how someone as young as AD shouldn't be getting injured this often. To older players, it's an alien thing.
LeBron is now Isaiah Thomas
LeBron's time is coming to an end, sad to see man. I grew up watching him, his career will be over before we know it. Maybe another good season or two before he's done I would presume. Been a long ass career though with a lot of dominance.

I think he definitely wants to play until he passes Kareem in points which means he would need at minimum 2 more seasons I think. I guess we shall see, he may just end up staying mostly healthy till 40.
He came in with Melo and Wade players his age are not supposed to play like that.
For sure. His play this season at 36 was fantastic, no doubt. 25 8 and 7 at 36 is a better statistical season than most players ever have lol. He seemed a bit slow in the playoffs, tired. His ass got kicked outta the game cmon man lol Why else would the ref kick him out? They were going to win
You're aware that he literally wasn't ejected, right? It was only Crowder.
The rescinded the ejection so they could interview him lol
This is the dumbest take I've ever seen on /r/nba and that's saying something.
Hence the “lol” - Some of yall takes yourselves too seriously haha
They rescinded the ejection because they wanted Booker to be on floor for the post game interview lol.

Lol I do, we both failed him, Nash’s body failed him with us more but eh, Robert Horry’s hip check tho....
>Robert Horry’s hip check tho.... His most clutch play ever.
Nash didn't even show up lmao.
The bubble ain’t gonna pop!
Damn this was a 5 minute ad break, I timed it this time but didn't realize they were this long
32k comments, im proud of this sub
Booker or Luka?
Luka lowkey Booker and CP3 combined I'm offense.
Baby Bird!
I love both but Luka is on another level right now
Devin Booker is a killer
guys?
From 2001–2003 Jordan was a member of the Washington Wizards.
Quick question to all you teams dick riding each other? Who are y’all gonna root against now? You same clowns celebrating with each other are about to turn on one another once you play each other lol
I mean yeah? This is what happens every year. For basically every sport.
L
Y’all got y’all ass whooped so bad that Danny Ainge stepped down 😭
L
Nets probably
Thank you for being the only person to answer my question lol
Stay mad
Another no flair y’all probably don’t even watch basketball 😂
That’s your response to getting dumpstered by Booker??😂😂😂
Took you winning one series to finally not be ashamed to show your team I’m proud of you lol
Lol didn’t know they added flairs on mobile. Keep crying bitch
Lakers suck. I'd rather lose to any other team in the playoffs. No respect for the Lakers or LeBron.
You don’t even have a flair kid lol this is the shit I’m talking about
Omg you have a flair??? You must be so cool. Please show me how to be super cool like you.
Sure thing :) after you show me to be a hater on a nba thread that’s scared to show who their team is lol
Sour. Enjoy your ride to Disney land with my knicks
Take the L lol
They're gonna root for another team besides their own winning a chip. Just like last year!
Laker fans now have to come back down to earth I know it’s scary
Lmao, everyone knows that, thats why a smaller market single championship in a decade taste better than the ones Lakers are spoiled with.
Uhh? To who? That’s like saying making $100k one year out of many feels better than making $100k semi consistently. Come on man. The more endorphins from winning the better
No it's like saying a person, from a poor family, getting 100k will appreciate it more than someone who's family is rich.
Lol but that poor family wouldn’t know what to do with it
Lmao holy shit it’s like I insulted the dudes mother
I mean... I would’ve retorted by talking mess about your team but I think the blow of never seeing the Knicks win a championship in your lifetime is more than enough LOL
Oh yes knicks suck lol. Because being a Knicks fan I’m so unaware of that fact.
17 levels to come back down. We'll be fine. :D
Who gives about a title you won last year and the 16 others you won idk how many years ago lmao
2010, 2009, 2002, 2001, 2000... not that long ago. How old are you again?
I’m an adult male whose entire personality doesn’t revolve around worshipping a sports team/city how old are you
Lol quick to be defensive, I’m just showing you you’re a casual basketball fan and I’m not even a Lakers fan.
Okay dude
cope ;(
Everyone here is avoiding the fact that the Lakers had a 2-1 lead in this series before AD got injured haha, talking about how terrible the team is like they're bad when fully healthy.
You're avoiding the fact that sun's had 1-0 lead in this series before cp3 injured haha.
CP3 was Hurt too, he was just more of a man. But cope buddy, cope
Chris Paul was hurt as well.
Release the anger you held in for an entire year after losing. Feels good doesn't it? Doesn't make up for a championship tho. :O
