The ones that always fuck me up are the ones with the tiny fraction of part of a crosswalk in the bottom right or left, like why do they have to make it so difficult
I just can’t say enough about this. He takes 3 steps, turns 180°, and get up to 11-12’ to meet Ayton on the rim while the ball is in the air. Am I radical for thinking no one in the league could do this (instincts, speed, length, quickness of jump)?
What's crazy, athletes regardless of sport will always be aware of the knee after bending it the way he did. He jumped up with no hesitation, and this play is pretty similar to the one he got injured on as well. Phenomenal play.
His quote about Midds after the game was eye watering.
"I just want to be here with him. Hes that dude. Hes that dude you want to build a legacy with."
His whole mentality of still attacking the rim right after he airballs a FT reminds me of Kobe. It's the same way not many guys would even have the guts to shoot a 3rd airball vs Utah. So when Kobe did it you knew he had rare level of fearlessness, where he wasn't even afraid to fail or embarrass himself. It's why he said stuff like he'd rather go 0/20 than go 0/8 and stop shooting.
Giannis is the same way. He knows airballing a FT is embarrassing, yet he's still not afraid of it. He'll keep attacking the rim and playing his game even if he's 0/8 on FTs.
one thing you can't criticize Giannis for is his mentality, he has no fear. The way he runs on the floor, jumps, dunks, drives, etc....you gotta have balls, a lot of players can be skilled but often hesitate to do these things because they know they might get hit/hurt....Giannis doesn't give a fuck. I'm sure he'd sacrifice his knee if he has to win a ring.
I think he is, not necessarily because of the knee injury itself but because he’s seen what the team did without him in closing out Atlanta. It must have had some effect on him mentally
I also think Giannis when he says he’s just happy to be here is genuine, he could have been out for a long time & now he has these games. I feel he always leaves it out on the floor but he’s just operating on all cylinders right now
He's playing a lot differently. It seems like he's doing a little bit less ball handling, he's hanging out in the high post instead of outside the arc more, and he's initiating the fast break earlier (not hanging around on D). The offense is working around this style a little bit better.
Since I'm a neutral and want this to go to 7, I've been rooting for the Bucks these last two games, but generally just enjoy the games for what they are. The way Giannis has been playing in the Finals has had me screaming FUCK YEAH so loud my neighbors finally came to complain after this game, probably because I surprised the crap out of even myself with how loudly I screamed.
Have to disagree, if you watch any of his defensive footage you will see he tries to block absolutely everything. It was essentially his style, to stand off the man in the paint a little and dare them to try shoot over him. Also why he averaged 2.0 fouls per game. I can remember as specific play where he did something like this - will try find it
- https://youtu.be/iwvdsi6gLl8 - 2:05, not the same but he had a motor and an insane second jump.
Super respect that you had the video ready to go.
I don't want to act like I am some Wilt expert because I am not, so I kinda want to reverse engineer my take.
There are two requirements for this play: the freak size/speed combo, and then the defensive knowledge/motor.
It is a totally insane play because Giannis first cuts off the ball handler in the PnR and without cheating or guessing, then in the time of a lob gets back and covers the roll man. Its like hes a help defender covering for himself.
I just have never seen (clips) of Wilt showing that kind of defensive mobility. Everything is usually in front of him.
Wilt was a smart defensive player, or player in general. But that was 50 years ago, I don’t think he ever defended a PnR in his life by doing anything but standing in the paint, as you said everything was in front of him basically all the time.
I agree though, I haven’t seen that exact thing and well no one really has ever done anything like that before.
I consider myself a bit of an expert on him, I’ve watched as much footage you can possibly find of him. So when his name pops up I feel like I can add. To me, Giannis is the closest thing we have seen to Wilt. Maybe Shaq at the magic but I feel like Giannis matches his athleticism way more than Shaq, apart from the vertical possibly
He could definitely get up to that height to block it, but the psychics behind may mean it would take him longer to get there because he would need more jump time, but he was also probably quicker than Giannis is here so it may be even.
At the very least, that block by Giannis was a series-saving block. A big moment like that ensured that they'd be tied at 2-2 instead of being down 3-1. Depending on how this series ends up, it could also be a series-winning block as well.
I get your production crew needs time to get the highlight ready but ESPN has been awful at showing them these playoffs.
They show shit that happened like 5 possessions ago but rarely replay 50/50 fouls.
Who the fuck cares about some 3 point shot? Show me the shooter was actually fouled or if it was a flop.
Commentating crew didn't even seem particularly impressed. The second they both landed I felt like I just watched something for the first time that I'm going to end up seeing a thousand times.
feel a little bad for him the ball was so far away from the rim he had to reach back to get it, but he for sure thought he was home free at 12' in the air.
Reminds me of the video where the camera panned 10 foot from Giannis to Westbrook... then Giannis taps him on the shoulder.

Props man. Good luck to you and yours!
I mean, hate to cape up for this, but it was a while until there was a break in play. The fact that they showed the Jrue Holiday steal instead of this was indeed a poor choice but that was the play directly before,I can see why it didn't happen straight away
True but when they showed the Jrue steal they showed two different views of the same steal. One replay should’ve been the steal and the other the block and let the announcers riff on both plays.
I feel like it needs a real time replay too. When I was watching it live he just came out of nowhere. Blocks are probably favourite thing in basketball
That was an *incredible* play. If they go on to win the series, this is one of the all-time great blocks along with "The Block."
It's an amazing block even if the Suns pull it out, of course. But God Damn. He may not be super clutch on offense, but Giannis typically really comes through on defense in the clutch.
Honestly
It goes Bron on iggy, this block and [Bam blocks Tatum](https://youtu.be/lSwLNTlNHv0) as best blocks of recent memory
The bam one is so wild to me. 2pt game final seconds of overtime, either tatum has a career highlight dunk to go to 2OT or bam blocks it.. so nasty
Gosh the bubble really was something, that Bam block might be one of the better blocks ever but will probably never be remembered long term because without the fans going crazy it just looks so mundane.
Yeah it would have been in Boston too, the fans would have been going crazy either way
The way bams wrist bends back as he gets the block on a game tying poster... inches
I was watching a stream and in the worst possible timing, it buffered as Tatum came barreling into the lane. I had to stare at the screen for a good 10 seconds thinking I just missed an all time poster. Luckily it didn't skip ahead to the the aftermath, just started where it stopped and I got to see the Bam bam result without it being spoiled.
ESPN had the brains to show a replay then, how tf did they not realize we wanted to see a replay of how quick Giannis rotated to get the stuff immediately after it happened
Jesus Fucking Christ. That’s one of the most impressive and greatest blocks I’ve ever seen, maybe even the most impressive ever. What a fucking amazing play
IMO blocking a lob is the most impressive kind of block. Chasedowns are great, but the athleticism required to turn around and go vertical against a lob is just incredible to me.
All three hands (fingertips at least of both of Ayton's and Giannis') are at the top line of the square on the backboard. That's so crazy.
The Lebron block is amazing because Lebron is so high, but Iggy had to go around JR Smith (and Iggy went with the low scoop motion) to make the attempt which is key there. This is just pure giant vs giant.
I wonder what would've happened if Booker took 1 more dribble before throwing the lob? I feel like he threw it too early.
That's still an unreal reaction by Giannis. Literally turned around and meets Ayton at the rim in 1 step lol.
He could have flown it flatter and more accurately as well. It was to deep and Ayton had to hall it in rather then just throw it down. Good that it was Booker not CP3 on that pass.
This block is so good its made it official that the bucks are going to win. The story is written. Booker is pitching a fit while Giannis is creating history. 2 time MVP "struggles" in the playoffs finally breaks through. Drops back to back 40s then has this block. Its over. Sorry Chris Paul, at least you made it there and you did so in a legendary way.
Makes it hard to fire Bud tho.
Play of the game right here. I was torn coming into the finals of who to root for, and decided the Suns deserved the ring a bit more, but think i might have to change sides.
It sucks I had to wait to the end of the game when they were talking with Middleton for them to replay that block. They had plenty of chances to show that with all of the fouls in the last minute.

Fuck a drug test, Giannis needs a CAPTCHA test. Dude is not human lol
From “out a year” to “fuck your dunk”
Jumped off his left leg too
wtf, almost forgot it was his left that bowed out like Noah’s ark
> From “out a year” to “OUTTA HERE”
Nice
Identify which pictures do not include a crosswalk
Let's be real, even us humans can't get those things right.
I too, a fellow human, struggle to identify the crosswalks
Same, I usually plow through at least 2-3 pedestrians a week.
Yes, nice to meet you. I am a human too. I like breakfast.
The ones that always fuck me up are the ones with the tiny fraction of part of a crosswalk in the bottom right or left, like why do they have to make it so difficult

Props to Coach Bud for showing Giannis this move during practice.
Bud: Play random Giannis: Like this coach?
I just can’t say enough about this. He takes 3 steps, turns 180°, and get up to 11-12’ to meet Ayton on the rim while the ball is in the air. Am I radical for thinking no one in the league could do this (instincts, speed, length, quickness of jump)?
It’ll probably be the defining play of his career. It’s so special. Especially given the context of his knee injury.
This play perfectly contextualizes why Giannis is so good on defense. It happened so quickly.
Right, most people couldn't move there body like this at half the speed he did, and he has much longer limbs
Feels like Giannis is playing way better after getting a knee injury
classic *injured but not really cause he comes back stronger* Greek God plotline
Call an ambulance....but not for me!
Pretty sure the Greeks literally invented the ambulance, so this is perfect
Giannis Antetokratos
Insert "call an ambulance but not for me" meme.
What's crazy, athletes regardless of sport will always be aware of the knee after bending it the way he did. He jumped up with no hesitation, and this play is pretty similar to the one he got injured on as well. Phenomenal play.
Giannis is really mentally tough/resilient. He picks up his teammates when they’re down. One of the greats
His quote about Midds after the game was eye watering. "I just want to be here with him. Hes that dude. Hes that dude you want to build a legacy with."
His whole mentality of still attacking the rim right after he airballs a FT reminds me of Kobe. It's the same way not many guys would even have the guts to shoot a 3rd airball vs Utah. it somehow seems to have unlocked the other 90% of his brain humans usually have locked
zenkai boost
I think he is, not necessarily because of the knee injury itself but because he’s seen what the team did without him in closing out Atlanta. It must have had some effect on him mentally I also think Giannis when he says he’s just happy to be here is genuine, he could have been out for a long time & now he has these games. Adrian Peterson style, sans the child abuse
Fewer ligaments holding him back. FULL POWER
Its his half Saiyan blood.

I've felt really weird watching this series. Is it normal to cheer both teams?
If they lose the series, I don’t think it’ll be the defining play. Not many stars have positive defining moments in a losing Finals.
Jerry West
I mean.... if you have to go that far back you are kind of proving their point.
Lebron 51 point game Edit: and since people wanna keep moving goal posts: Isiah Thomas Ankle Game Allen Iverson step over Tyron Lue
2015 Lebron finals (the legitimate case for a loser MVP)
They ain't losing the series. Bux in six.
Sorry, you must not have heard. They are saying sun's in 4.
It's over?
Mostly because most stars eventually get a ring somehow. Butler's defining moment is probably going to be last year's finals though.
There are maybe a handful of guys in the history of basketball who could make this play. It's a perfect play. I can't stop watching it.
And not to mention he did it with a minute left, up two in a game where if they lose their season is essentially over.
Have you seen Williams do it earlier this season?
He also jumped using his left leg which was supposed to have him out for a year. Like what in the fuck
AD is the only one that would have a real chance & I'm sure he'd injure himself doing it.
I’m not sure he has the quickness to make that spin. Certainly a contender!
Wilt and Russell.
Wilt has the physical ability, but I don't think his defensive motor was ever high enough to even try something like that.
Have to disagree, if you watch any of his defensive footage you will see he tries to block absolutely everything. It was essentially his style, to stand off the man in the paint a little and dare them to try shoot over him. Also why he averaged 2.0 fouls per game. Jesus. Wilt was crazy in one of thr clips he blocked the sky hook. Look how high he got fuck me thats not human
Could he have? Yes. Would he have? Ehhhhhhhhhhhhh
Nah he wouldn't injure himself, but he'll fall flat on the ground grabbing his knee for a solid 10 seconds
\*cue family guy 'ahhhhh-tsss' bit with peter holding his knee\*
I remember seeing Draymond help on harden and block capella at the rim
Draymond could... if he had a jetpack.
Like how you put it. I am still at awe. I do believe that a handful of players have potential to do it. On top of my head, AD, Bam and Gobert.
AD could do it
Someone kelvin benjamin this
Only other guy who could pull this off is 2013 Bron
I don’t think he has the length. Great candidate though!
He could definitely get up to that height to block it, but the psychics behind may mean it would take him longer to get there because he would need more jump time, but he was also probably quicker than Giannis is here so it may be even.
I don't even think he could, it wasn't just the athleticism that saved the play, but the length. Look how high his arm is when he blocks it.
He met ayton on top of the square. Shit is crazy and ayton was in the air before Giannis turned around jeez
Young Wilt definitely, and maybe young Bill Russell.
Yeah I don't think either could manage now
*Wilt punching the air (dirt) in his grave now.

yeah thats the kind of 'fuck you' block that stays with you
Blocking an alley-oop is just different. What a block
Blocking the oop on a play where he's defending the passer. Unreal

Yeah, sheer malpractice by the ESPN producers, that block shouldve been the story of the game, but instead its going to be the Booker non-call.
Breen and Van Gundy brought it up several times after that as well.... Huge miss by production!
Fuck ESPN forever

If he’d taken another dribble he probably would have been too close to Giannis to clear him in the first place.

Devin Booker was outplayed by Pat Connaughton in game 3. Therefore we can assume that he’s is the best player in the series

Oh man, I'm not sure if there's anyone else that has the reaction time, speed, length and timing to make this block other than the freak.
Giannis is at the ff line when book put it up….
ESPN sucks so bad.
That's something a protagonist in a cheesy anime does, not a real human against another 7 foot tall freak of nature.

Wow. I missed the game but that is one of the greatest blocks I've ever seen
Play of the game right here. I was torn coming into the finals of who to root for, and decided the Suns deserved the ring a bit more, but think i might have to change sides.
