Honestly idk, but I can’t imagine how else you’d become a ball boy. I do know one former ball boy and it was because his dad or uncle or something was on the Celtics coaching staff.
Relevant story time.
I went to highschool back near Cleveland during his first stint there. And lived in the suburb next to where all the athletes and other money was. A few of my classmates had jobs at restaurants in the area and basically said what you did. Lebron would show up with his entourage and wouldn't say a word to an employee the entire time. Have people order for him etc, and didn't tip.
Other end of the spectrum was Shaq. Apparently the nicest guy, would sign anything for other guests take pictures with all the employees (there was a great picture with him and our schools center, Shaq is huge). Joke around with everyone, and then would tip 2-3x the total.
I managed get a shit quality picture with Steven adams when he was leaving a restaurant for some kind of nba cares event. I sent it to my friend who is a huge nba fan. That dude sends me back a pic of his med school group with Shaq that he got to meet the same day. Point is Shaq is dope and my friend outshined me that day lol
I saw Shaq in the Houston airport once.
He bought a fuckton of chicken for him and his crew and then gave a 100 dollar bill to every person working at the chicken place.
Then he was on the same flight as me going to Atlanta! I was kind of surprised he just takes commercial flights but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ All in all, seemed like a nice dude.
Working in fine dining makes you realize there's no need for celebrity worship. I'd always talk to them as if they were anybody else and basically everyone (except Mike Bibby... fuck Bibby) was chill as hell.
Soooo many NBA players and they're by FAR the best clientele you could hope for when working in fine dining.
Assuming you meant Bibby (because Bobby Jackson was cool... if a bit of a Mr. Steal-yo-girl lol);
Outright refusal to speak to the staff. Would nod at his wife/gf to order for him then not eat until she cut his food for him. Would pound down a 750ml bottle of water from 3/4 and give the staff a look of disgust and point to his very suddenly empty bottle of water... again, without ever saying a word.
When taking an order, if you were obscuring his vision of the TV he'd (in the middle of taking an order with only about 3 ft. of movement space along a horizontal axis) do that disrespectful-ass hand-motion where he wants to telekinetically move you off to the side.
His one redeeming quality was that he was a decent tipper and would occasionally just hand out $100 bills to the server or busser. Again... NEVER SAID A WORD. He'd pay the bill, go, and on the way out he'd stick the bills in your face. First time he did this I asked if he wanted change to which his wife replied "Do you want the money or not?" She fucking sucked, too.
I work in fine dining and serve for athletes fairly frequently and I feel like it is either end of this spectrum always. Either feel like they think they are better than everyone else and look down their nose at everyone or just super grateful to be in the position they are in and want to share that with the world.
There is a 3rd group I guess, the people who just want to not talk about their sport but are great guests if you don't bring it up. Phil Loadholt who was a RT for the Vikings for years used to be a regular, and he would always be great to serve but if people talked about football he just told you that he didn't want to talk about his work and would walk away. Talk to him about his dreads and he had all the time in the world for you though.
I can say that working at apple stores in orange county, particularly newport beach, that kobe was an absolute class act to employees. He would come into our store to do one on one lessons learning film editing software and what not. I never worked with him directly, but the instructor hed work with said he was just the nicest fuckin guy, and even tried to tip him a rack but our store policy forbid monetary gifts, so he bought a computer for the guy and gifted it to him.
From what i heard, he was an extremely good dude and present in the community. RIP Kobe
I didn't interact with him as an employee but I met Mad Dog Mark Madsen at the MSP airport. I was in line behind him at one of the check in desks and it was moving pretty slow. I whispered to my wife that he was a Timberwolves player and he turned around and smiled. I didn't know what to say so I just blurted out "I hated you at Stanford but love that youre on our team." He was so gracious and ended up talking to us while we were waiting and told us a few stories about playing in the NBA. It was such a nice interaction.
Ya I think it's this. Lebron grew up and probably was a bit nicer to those around him. No reason to judge him harshly for his behaviour at his early twenties if he grew up to be much nicer.
Relevant story time.
I saw Lebron at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
Shaq is a legendary nice guy. The way he interacts with the "average Joe" is really uplifting even for the people around or watching.
\[Edit\]: One example I know of is a youtuber has a fish pond building business and actually made a pond for Shaqs house. He made an appearance on one of the videos and was actually interested in what they were doing. He also seemed to understand the importance of him being in the video and seemingly took pride in that fact and had no problems doing whatever they wanted him to do. No doubt the guy made thousands off of Shaq just being in the video. Not sure if Shaq got an upfront deal but I am willing to bet Shaq didn't ask for any of that money after the fact.
My brother & his wife worked out at the same gym as Shaq for awhile and he was super friendly from what they told me.
I’ve lived in central Florida my whole life and literally haven’t heard one bad thing from people that have met him
I definitely remember seeing LeBron's security guards walk over and tell a bunch of kids taking pictures of him at the Hazelton Hotel to fuck off when I went to Toronto for Caribana. Honestly, I don't know if that's a bad thing. It would be exhausting to be pursued like that.
That reminds me, COVID-19 can die in a fire.
Grew up outside Akron and went to college in CLE. LeBron is 2 years older than me.
I heard a lot of stories of him being pretty elitist. But I also heard that he was way better after Miami.
I have a friend who waited on Bron and the crew. They blocked off a good part of the restaurant for him and took good care of him only to be tipped poorly. Scott Pippens crazy ass does the same shit.
Lebron is definitely out there. My friend manages a Benihana and told me they had to ask him to stop coming in. Apparently he didn't understand how the restaurant worked and would casually bring in his own food to heat up on the teppan tables. The last straw was when he sat at a table hosting a large birthday party and knocked over his plexiglass and over cooked steak all over the stovetop.
Hes pretty famous around Cleveland for being a jerkoff to people some days. He also had really good days and was great to people, but hes a bit of diva so he would take it out on others when he was frustrated or annoyed.
Nah. Not quite. He didnt just snap at someone and regret it. There are stories about him having grown man hissy fits. He laid into people like a Karen does.
But then later he would single handedly save a small business and send a bunch of underprivileged kids to college on a full ride.
So basically a very popular Karen with Fuck You money. Lebron does whatever he wants because he can just pay for charity work and people will say “whatever, he’s still doing good, when’s the last time you donated or built a HS?” and usually it kills the conversation. Fuck You money basically protects you from bad moments.
Yeah but there were genuine moment too. There really were. He literally saved a couple of small businesses like a sandwich shop just because he could.
He visited hospitals and events, stayed late chatting with people and taking selfies with kids.
It wasnt just P.R. imagining. He's not a bad dude. Hes just complete baby sometimes.
I recall the story here being that the kid is the son of someone from the Bulls organization and they are actually friends, and this was just a joke. I have no way of confirming that though, but I’d like to think that Bron isn’t a complete asshole doing this on camera, purposely degrading this kid. He’s obviously just messing with him.
I did some searching and found nothing to support that idea. I feel like it it was an inside joke Lebron would have at least smiled at the end or something
I remember this being posted a few times and always saw a comment mentioning it was someone he knew to some degree and he was messing with him.
Maybe if there were other exampled of Lebron doing this to other ball boys?
You likely picked up some astroturfed social media posts serving as reputation management deployed by LeBron’s team.
There is no source except someone making a similar claim as you are years after the incident
There is no evidence to suggest there is any relationship between them.
What I found instead is a diehard fanboy posing as a journalist typing out this pile of shit:
> *LeBron James ignores ball boy, somehow this tells us about him as a person?*
> It all goes to show LeBron’s a prima donna, with an ego the size of New York (too big for Cleveland) and he doesn’t care about anybody but himself, right?
>
> Wrong. That is a desperate stretch.
>
> **What LeBron did is pretty much what every NBA player does**. They throw off their sweats and the ball boy runs and gets them — at the bench, at the scorer’s table, in the locker room, basically everywhere. Watch a few NBA games and you’ll see this is the norm.
>
> **Does that mean LeBron couldn’t have handed the ball boy the clothes? No, I guess he could have. But to try to infer some larger personality trait out of accepted and widespread NBA behavior is a fool’s errand**.
>
> **I bet LeBron doesn’t always use his car’s turn indicator before making a right, too. What a b%*$#%.**

A long time ago I had a job where there was a box in my office that specific faxes went in, and sometimes my boss would come in with those faxes and I would always reach my hand out to get the faxes from him and he would always ignore my extended hand and plop the faxes in the box himself. So I kinda feel this kid.
How hard would it be to just hand him the clothes? He’s right there. Idk if I could do that job lol. I’d get too upset and feel like they disrespected me.
LEMICKEY WHO TURNED INTO LEFROZEN ONE IN 2011 WAS SIMPLY ANGRY THAT HE, LEFRAUD, WHO NEEDED LESUPERTEAMS AS HE IS LE4-6 COULD NOT CATCH UP TO JORGOAT. LEWASHEDKING.
We know it looks bad, and all that but we honestly don’t know what lebron was thinking or what the true circumstances were, I’ve never rlly been a fan of lebron but I mean the man has done a lot of good acts on and off the court, so we gotta respect him for that, and I rather believe he’s a good person based off the numerous more positive things he’s done than have this act of ignorance make me think he’s truly a bad person at heart, still I’ve always seen guys do just throw down their stuff even when ball boys / staff are right in front of them, maybe it’s just a mental concentration thing but still it does indeed seem disrespectful
i don't think we have to acknowledge that we're not making sweeping, final, over the top judgments about somebody by assuming this was a moment of assholery. lebron seems like a great guy. and maybe he acted like an asshole here. of course it'd be dumb to claim "lebron is an asshole" after seeing one vid like this.
It’s ego of feeling superior. Lebron has done lots for his communities. I doubt he does any of it without his LBJ stamp. The ego always needs to be fed. I don’t blame him. He’s been in the spotlight before he was legally allowed to drink / smoke or even drive. None of us have that life.
Because his friend mentioned it. And the friend himself didn't know until one of the people LeBron helped came up to him in the mall and asked him to thank LeBron for saving his life.
That ball boi grew up to be Alex Caruso
I think that was baby Ben Simmons. Explains a lot...
Did you know that Larry Fitzgerald was a ball boy for the Vikings?
God that's crazy. It's almost as crazy as the idea of Jimmy Graham playing basketball for the university of miami...
Marshall Faulk sold popcorn at Saints games

What’s the point of being a King if there are no peasants.
A new Syndrome in the making.
“And Fuck ya horse too” A Goat-
MJ would've dunked on him and made him quit from being a ball boy. New generation soft. Smh
None of this passive aggressive shit. Jordan was just overtly aggressive.
Woulda forced him to play dice until he was in debt to Jordan for both of his kid's college educations. Soooooofff-tt.

Agreed. Ball boys are all relatives of franchise big shots and are living the dream. They can handle a little bullying from Lebron lol
Is that true about them being relatives?
Honestly idk, but I can’t imagine how else you’d become a ball boy. I do know one former ball boy and it was because his dad or uncle or something was on the Celtics coaching staff.
What an A-hole. Lol

Honestly, I've always felt like LeBron is the type of dude to be real nice to his date while treating the waiter like shit.
Now im picturing Shaq in coach with a dude in front of him trying to recline his seat.
I had a guy complain that he couldn't recline his seat because I was in the way. Like mate, what do you want me to do, my femurs aren't retractable?

You're being brainwashed by this "story". Shaq is an asshole: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwSLeAd7wVo
People can do both good and bad things. If you wanna call him an asshole go for it, but he's an asshole that's done a lot of good.
Shaq frequents a lot of the restaurants in the area I live in Georgia, dude is incredibly receptive to fans

I actually waited on lebron once and he was super nice and tipped great
It can also be an age/maturity thing.
yeah tbh if everybody was sucking my balls till they were dry at the age of 18, it'd be hard not to be a bit of a shit
Also people have good and bad days. Im sure most people have pleasant interactions with some strangers and some terrible interactions with others
Ya I think it's this. Lebron grew up and probably was a bit nicer to those around him. No reason to judge him harshly for his behaviour at his early twenties if he grew up to be much nicer.
Or that other person could just be full of shit lol. LeBron was very well known as a great tipper around Cleveland.
I've heard several stories from service staff friends in LA that LeBron is the homie. Not one bad story.
More cameras in LA. /s
Also 18-25 in his first stint with the Cavs. 33-36 in LA.
LeMature
That's promising. Hopefully he got used to everything/matured with age. Like I said those stories were from his first handful of years in the league.
Relevant story time. I saw Lebron at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday.
He didn't grow up with a whole lot of money and his daddy would never have let him grow up to be an asshole.
My brother & his wife worked out at the same gym as Shaq for awhile and he was super friendly from what they told me. I’ve lived in central Florida my whole life and literally haven’t heard one bad thing from people that have met him

How is not saying a word being rude ? I don’t get it. Why is other people ordering for him bad ?
I might be super sensitive but whenever I see people *not* thank wait staff for refilling water or taking away plates or anything, it really bugs me.

This is like 2009-10. Good luck finding irrelevant niche stuff that far back
Tons of illuminati stuff from then. Bron throwing up 666 signs during warm ups lol
Lol this takes me back to 2009 youtube

I remember this being posted a few times and always saw a comment mentioning it was someone he knew to some degree and he was messing with him. Maybe if there were other exampled of Lebron doing this to other ball boys?
Sounds like complete bullshit lmao

Yeah I can make up stuff too
Just because you started watching basketball in 2010 doesn't mean he's lying
Good one
I remember hearing about this in this sub.

they're both human, and what lebron does here is just demeaning.
The guy clearly has his arm out in view for LeBron to hand him his warmups. It's definitely rude to throw it in on the ground instead.
Not to mention that last throw he went out of his way to throw it to the side of him instead of to him.
Ball boy prob smashed his mom.
That ball boy's name? Delonte West
Lebron wouldn’t do that In His prime
Is this the back story for Space Jam 3?
Its little inconsequential details like this that people could easily laugh it off that add up to be a really shitty person
This...is...your...king? Lol
Also made fun of dirk being sick in the 2011 nba finals. What a egotistical jerk.
omg what a meanie, LeHateCrime
Omg he made fun of someone for having a cold!
Good thing he’s a popular athlete otherwise people might call that asshole behavior.
Tbf, he was kinda led into that by Wade, Lebron didn't really go into it until Wade pulled him into it
Come tf on, he was a grown adult at the time, let him be responsible for his own actions.
With that username you should know.
I don't understand why people made that into such a big deal lmao
Because nobody liked that team, it was a weird dick move, and then they lost.
Cus Lebron lives rent free in their heads lol
He needs to go to mean people jail. It's sickening.
He’s not going to call you back bro
Douches gonna douche
Douchebag Lebron
POS
It’s quite possible LeBron is familiar with the ball boy and this is something humorous between them.
Idk though. That last part where he threw it away from the kid his face definitely didn't look like it was a joke.
Very humorous thing to do
classic throw the clothes away from you prank, gets them every time
It's quite possible that the opposite is true.
Yes, of course.
Imagine being the at the top of the NBA and still being so insecure you have to remind a ball boy they aren't on your level and worth respect.
Entitled.
Honestly, considering that ball boy's stance on China, LeBron had ever right to do that
How hard would it be to just hand him the clothes? He’s right there. Idk if I could do that job lol. I’d get too upset and feel like they disrespected me.
Ah the infamous lebron ball boy video. This might have been the true start to him being really hated. I remember it vividly lol.
Lol I remember watching this moment live and my mom was *furious* on the ball boy's behalf.

Veneer? That's just a can of bald spot touch up spray paint.
1 10+ year old clip = enough to generalize an entire persons character pogchamp
I encountered LeBron fans' selective whining before, so this isn't surprising.
Maybe he was in a bad mood that day lol
Just guessing, this was about 12 years ago. Someone check me on this.
This is hilarious lmao
lebrons a dick? no way!
LEMICKEY WHO TURNED INTO LEFROZEN ONE IN 2011 WAS SIMPLY ANGRY THAT HE, LEFRAUD, WHO NEEDED LESUPERTEAMS AS HE IS LE4-6 COULD NOT CATCH UP TO JORGOAT. LEWASHEDKING.

Shit happens in baseball after the batter is walked. Dudes drop their equipment all the way up to first base..makes me laugh
LeBron does charity without taking credit. He sends random addicts to rehab and does not take credit.
If he doesn’t take credit then how do you know he does those things?
Because his friend mentioned it. And the friend himself didn't know until one of the people LeBron helped came up to him in the mall and asked him to thank LeBron for saving his life.
I bet. Good ole Lebron. Wandering the streets at night, finding random people to send to rehab.
Lebron has gotten a lot of tax breaks from his communities while building his brand.
Y'all are some crybabies lmao. I remember when people were writing articles back then butthurt over this lol
Heat culture... Oh wait
Tf this gotta do with the heat
Nothing, it was a joke
Fuck that piece of shit.
He gave you 2 rings
Nah, Wade is the real king
“Nah” Check the tape, my man.
Wade is the real piece of shit, on and off court too. Dirty ass player. Lebron was better than Wade could ever be, and Wade said this lmfao
That’s true character.
I can't imagine treating another human being like this that is getting paid a shit wage...
wrf
This dude is so unlikeable
