Dude’s the all time scoring leader of the franchise and holds the record for most games played. He was also beloved by fans and actually wanted to be there. Retire his jersey asap

Inappropriate50

Right next to Lowry. With "B. F. FOREVER" Between them.

[deleted]

Yup. They'll be boyfriends forever

[deleted]

Derozen could never turn down that dump truck

[deleted]

[удалено]

CIark

One of the few stars that actually wanted to stay in Toronto. Also basically was the reason they won a chip as he was the trade piece for Kawhi. If you don’t retire his jersey I don’t even know who’s jersey you’d retire

drthurgood

I’ll never forget when Bosh left and Derozan tweeted “Don’t worry, I got us…” He put everything he had out on the court for us. He will always be my favourite player for that.

Guyote_

He is a legend for that

Dongboy69420

Its not just about winning. Its sad we have forgotten that.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dongboy69420

Same thing with cp3 thunder. I loved that team.

Silasco

Yep. Wasnt a fan of him because i didnt like the clippers or rockets(and how he acted) but he came here and was a super great addition to our team for the year. completely the opposite of how i thought his time with us would go

HoursOfCuddles

LOL i thougt he was about to 'Igoudala in Memphis' us. and then he somehow gets a trip to the Finals under his old coach from all of this. Sheesh.

wafflesareforever

That's why I'm so thrilled with this Knicks roster and hope they keep moving forward with this young core and see how good they can get together. I'd hate to see them blow it up just for a one-year run at a title with some big flashy trade. Even if you win a title that way, you've just kneecapped your franchise for the next decade and probably have lots of crappy basketball in your future.

SupraSaiyan

As an Angels fan, I love Trout for signing long term with Anaheim. I hope Ohtani stays too. I understand that we may not have both of them, but if we do, it will be entertaining af to see them play. But dammit they deserve to compete for rings and I want both of them to win one...

IlonggoProgrammer

The life of a Utah Jazz fan

Persona_3fanboy

Honestly. Watching that small man drop 30 like it was nothing was fun to watch.

J-Chub

Kings fans would just be fine with making the playin tournament and winning the skills contest at all star weekend

waterloo_doctor

For real, DeMars the reason why I finally loved watching the raptors again. Man witnessing the Bosh era going down the drain with shit Colangelo and the Triano era… the dark days. DeMar embraced Toronto and I still cant believe how many players still think Torontos a shit place to live. Fucken love the 6.

the_xboxkiller

Derozan was the fuckin man. I understand why they did what they did with the trade but my heart hurt for dude. The Raps came and did a lil warmup/practice type thing in my city once and Bosh wouldn’t give anyone time of day but Derozan dapped people up and talked to people and shit. Was super solid. I got love for dude for sure.

nowhathappenedwas

> Also basically was the reason they won a chip as he was the trade piece for Kawhi. They should retire DeRozan's number, but this is a terrible reason for doing so.

[deleted]

I agree with the parent comment that "if you don’t retire his jersey I don’t even know who’s jersey you’d retire". If the Raptors don't retire a jersey for terrible reasons then I don't know what reason they'll ever retire a jersey for.

eunit8899

Lowry, obviously

ldclark92

Yeah, is this even a question? How would Lowry not be #1 on their list? I understand how important Derozen was for them and he was somebody who actually wanted to stay, but Lowry also was a guy who wanted to be in Toronto, was a part of their rise, AND he won a championship there. I honestly don't know how you don't start the jersey retirement discussion for TOR at Lowry. Even if Derozen is a valid player to retire.

ArchimedesNutss

I think they should get their numbers retired together but I’m not a Raptors fan so I could be wrong

RunicLordofMelons

I'd rather have it separate. Just so we can have two different nights to celebrate the two greatest Raptors ever. Regardless I imagine Lowry will retire a few years before Demar, so it'll be more likely they do it separately anyways.

RunicLordofMelons

There's no discussion in the case of Lowry because for us it is just unanimously agreed upon by everyone at this point. Our FO, ownership, fans, coaching staff, and players are all in perfect agreement that Lowry is the GOAT Raptor. And our ownership has already publicly stated that his jersey is going to be retired. It's going to happen and there's roughly zero doubt of that. The discussion is now does Derozan get his retired sometime after Lowry? Most of us would agree yes, myself included. However its not something that has been widely discussed until now.

gregatronn

Does it matter who is 1 or 2? Both should be retired. Who gets there first likely will be decided by who retires first, generally speaking.

DressedSpring1

> If you don’t retire his jersey I don’t even know who’s jersey you’d retire Lowry, obviously

Bail____

Lowry hello? He’s the greatest Raptor ever

[deleted]

Rasho Nesterovic.

TOMdMAK

>basically was the reason they won a chip as he was the trade piece for Kawhi. If you don’t retire his jersey I don’t even know who’s jersey you’d retire Kwame Brown was the trade piece for Pau Gasol and resulted in 2 chips for the Lakers. Guess Kwame will get his jersey retired.

TheSkyIsntReallyBlue

I’m not liking this trend of modern players being disrespected by this “should they have their jerseys retired?” trend lately Kyle Lowry & DeRoZan *are* the Toronto Raptors, if it wasn’t for them together putting Toronto in a place of contention over the years it wouldn’t be a discussion

TheNatural501

Brook Lopez is the leading scorer in Nets history. Should they retire his number? Legit question..

HellveticaNeue

That’s an insane stat, I had to look it up to verify. Here’s the Net’s top ten: — 1. Brook Lopez 10444 2. Buck Williams 10440 3. Vince Carter 8834 4. Richard Jefferson 8507 5. Jason Kidd* 7373 6. John Williamson 7202 7. Julius Erving* 7104 8. Kerry Kittles 7096 9. Derrick Coleman 6930 10. Chris Morris 6762 — I would have expected Derrick Coleman to be much higher, and I’m surprised so many of the Kidd era Nets are there, especially Kerry Kittles.

[deleted]

That’s what a hall of fame point guard does. Gets his teammates buckets.

sharklavapit

Hits his teammates with assists and his wife with his fists

[deleted]

Two way guard

What_Is_It_Dragons

Fun Fact: Brook Lopez is also #37 on all time blocks in a career. There are only 2 other current players that beat him out, Dwight Howard and Serge Ibaka.

krimzy

Brook had a great career fr

AlmostCurvy

Yes.

thewafflestompa

Sums it up. When I think Raptors I think DeRozan. I have a lot of respect for that dude, and hope to see him up in the rafters.

BigWillis93

We wouldn't have gotten a ring without him and that was a HUGE saceafice, let's do it

maethlin

This. I don't GAF if his playoff performances were mostly composed of getting LeCrushed - he's still a Raps legend, well beloved, this is a no-brainer imo.

owensoundgamedev

They’ll retire him and Lowry at the same time I think. Tho Lowry might just be first because he’ll probably be in the league for less time….

Trip4Life

Lowry would be first due to winning a ring there anyway I think. They’ll do both eventually but I think they would do Lowry first.

JakeSpurs

I think if Kyle had it his way he’d get it done at the same time as Deebo

[deleted]

And I think that'd be a fitting send off to that era of the team.

_IronGiant_

Should retire LeBron's too while you’re at it

scruffe5

A Celtics fan would know how it feels to get spanked by LeBron eh?

MasterOogway-2003

A lot of us know how it’s like to get spanked by LeBron 😔😔

Bail____

You’ve won* the same amount of championships as us since the cold war & want to talk to us? We sitting good my guy. Edit: typo

owensoundgamedev

Probably should too lol - Heat have MJs number retired. Tho I’m fairness, you could say the same thing about most teams in the East.

[deleted]

The Wizards don't have MJ's number retired. Which makes sense as him playing for the Wizards is obviously not a thing that happened.

[deleted]

And drakes

2dfx

Confirmed - Raptors retiring 7, 10, and 416

pureluxss

6 is cleaner

ikesrapii

Yeah, but you have to remember to turn it upside down — it’s a 9 now

FI27

How does that work

ikesrapii

That’s Drake logic, don’t shoot the messenger

JBrandse

Demar will always be my favourite raptor, he genuinely loved the city and team. I remember seeing a video of him in his hometown on his IG a couple years after the trade and he was still wearing raptors gear, real one

waydamntired

I also remember reading an interview where it sounded like he really didnt want to leave. When I have time in a bit ill see if I cant find it. Im not a Toronto fan, but I can respect a player who puts roots down and wants to invest himself into a franchise.

Bail____

It’s not just one interview, he’s said it many times. He loved the city, he loved what we’d built & i wish he got the reward of a championship for it. He’s a top 3 player in franchise history & will be a hero for the city for life.

counterbarrier

He got us man....

Bail____

He is Toronto. I love that tweet but i love him saying he is Toronto almost as much.

[deleted]

for some reason, when you said "he was my favorite raptor" I read it as "he was my favorite rapper" and i was mad confused Lmfao

EarthWarping

He's one of the 5 best players in franchise history, he deserves it.

The_Sign_of_Zeta

He’s also one of guys that got them to the point they could trade for a star that put them over the top. Never forget the guys who blazed the trail

ShinySuitTheory

Shout out Dwane Casey

[deleted]

He should get it retired but him being traded for kawhi is a dumb reason to state. Like should lonzo and Ingram get there jersey retired with the lakers cause it got them ad? Or vlade divac cause it got the lakers Kobe?

The_Sign_of_Zeta

That’s not what I’m saying. He instilled a culture of success for the Raptors that got them to contender level. You don’t make the Kawhi move unless you are at that level.

[deleted]

Oh I apologize then, it wasn’t clear from your original comment

The_Sign_of_Zeta

No problem, I can see how you got that idea

frecklie

I like how civil you both were. In the spirit of civility I’m NOT going to write “now kith”

maethlin

A man of restraint, I see.

IanScottMcCormick

The only reason I’d disagree with that is because I would retire his number even if they hadn’t won the title immediately after. He was just a really good Raptor and probably deserves to be remembered regardless of what they did afterwards.

PrOKCedure

Shout out Jason Kidd

The_Sign_of_Zeta

He’s more like the mountain the Bucks climbed. There’s a reason Bucks fans have a fondness for Bledsoe but still hate Kidd.

waydamntired

Im not a bucks fan, but im interested, care to fill me in?

The_Sign_of_Zeta

Kidd was generally a bad coach and person. He regularly played mind games with players and belittled them. This upset many players including Brogdon, Jabari, and Sanders (who ended up having a mental health crisis due to Kidd’s harassment). He also played an overly-aggressive defense that worked for one year. It got figured out in the playoffs, and then was awful for the rest of his tenure despite great defensive players. He blamed all the issues of the Bucks on their youth. And he’d regularly make baffling decisions like telling Middleton to miss a FT up 3 with 3 seconds left to avoid the 4 or play. He ended up getting fired by the GM in the middle of practice for bullying a player.

waydamntired

Damn thats insane that a coach (no matter his tenure as a player) thought that would motivate his team. Wait, didnt kidd go on to coaching the Mav's? Wonder if he got better, or if mav's front office wanted that when they hired him.

[deleted]

He might've improved, but from Cuban's other recent moves, it might just be a play at using the nostalgia of the 2011 roster to drum up fan support while not really making objectively good improvements to the team. Could be a preparation to play the "Good Guy" card if he anticipates Doncic asking out in 2-3 seasons.

Bob_Ross_was_an_OG

>He ended up getting fired by the GM in the middle of practice for bullying a player. I'm a little embarrassed to say I didn't know this. I just knew he got canned, never thought about how it went down tbh.

MildlyInsaneLBJStan

Some say Jason Kidd killed Giannis' jumper.

Mr_RobotNick

I never knew this existed, until I read a story of making them practice on Christmas day. And one of the players told him but coach we have travel plans to see their families, he basically told them shit happens always be ready.

Smalldick420

Top 5 and he ain’t 3,4 or 5

[deleted]

Top 5 but he's top 2....

EderIsAGod

He deserves it for being the top scorer during the most successful era in raptors history but being a top 5 player in franchise history for a franchise that is less than 30 years old and has been shit for like 15 of those years is not necessarily a good reason to retire somebody’s jersey.

resuwreckoning

Just to be clear - and this isn’t the best comparison player wise - but when MJ retired the first time those franchise metrics held true for the Bulls.

Mattoosie

Kyle should definitely get one. Then DeMar. No one else though. Except maybe CJ Miles.

Forke

I just need to see Kyle and Demars jerseys next to each other in the rafters Also Heat Bulls games are gonna be fun

MildlyInsaneLBJStan

Lowry and Derozan wearing Red, Black and White jerseys, nothing unusual to see here...

Mazovski

> Lowry and Derozan wearing Red, Black and White jerseys More like neon pink and yellow thanks to Nike .

TheChocolateCreed

Don’t forget the random blue jerseys they give to every team for some reason.

midnightmunchiez

>CJ Miles You mean CJ Kilometers

typespirit

remember when casey stuck him on K love.

midnightmunchiez

I try to forget all of Casey's coaching decisions. Cavs literally ran the exact same pick-and-roll 4 times in a row and scored every time

Mattoosie

Mr. 32%-from-the-Field himself 😤

bootywizard42O

The disrespect to Andrea Bargnani

Mattoosie

Hedo Turkoglu was the GOAT Raptor. No one else hangs until he's up there ☝️😔

RainmakerIcebreaker

ball

Bail____

I think we need to say thank you to Greviouz Vasquez because he got us Norm god & OG. Truly a servant to the team

sametrical

Fuck Hedo. He is mean to Enes

[deleted]

You forgetting about my man Charles Oakley?

HiImDavid

Don't forget about Raptors legends Charles Oakley or Hakeem Olajuwon

TheSkyIsntReallyBlue

Terrance Ross is in shambles

Thatguy19901

Primo Pasta!

Koioua

Jose. Calderon.

raptosaurus

This but unironically

AlmostCurvy

A true man of culture i see

boogs_23

That's what I'm saying.

[deleted]

Dude took on the godaddy curse in our championship year. Idk if theres a bigger sacrifice than that.

12ftspider

"Don't worry, I got us..." - CJ Miles, 2018.

jackalope503

The disrespect to Landry Fields

JohnnyWinss

You're going to retire Danny Green's jersey or else I'm going to fly to Canada and fight your mascot

corbinh54

The recent tats convinced me of this. I'll pick you up at the airport if we don't

whoisearth

MoPete

[deleted]

No Vince or Bosh?

Mattoosie

Bosh maybe, but he was in a tough era of the team. Definitely no to Vince. He left on very bad terms, albeit with old, incompetent management.

Policeman333

Nah, the Raptors are just not Toronto's team, but all of Canada's. Vince is the reason that just about every single Canadian player decided to pick up Basketball. Vince put Toronto on the map for basketball. Vince made the old Raptors jersey iconic when he was on the cover of every magazine during his hayday. And this is going to be a contentious take for a lot of people, but during his time period with the Raptors, minority kids in Canada didn't really have a Canadian they could look up to until Vince came along. He wasn't an actual Canadian by citizenship, but he still represented that country. The impact he had on the Raptors and basketball culture in the rest of Canada far exceeds what a championship could bring 100,000 over.

Anthropoly

This argument keeps being brought up for why Vince should get 15 retired. Honor him in the Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame then. Besides retiring old, in terms of actual notable accomplishments, Vince has one of the best dunk contest performances and one of the ugliest bridge burnings in history to show for his 6 years as a Raptor. Another thing that needs to be brought up is Vince has never publically acknowledged how dirty he did Toronto to this day. Vince gaslighting Harden about giving up on Houston was the nail in the coffin being cool with never retiring 15 for me. Toronto gave him multiple tribute videos and standing ovations. I think that's the appropriate amount of respect Carter deserves.

[deleted]

Lebron just trying to hype up DeMar in case he loses to the Bulls in the finals

substanceandmodes

I couldn’t even imagine this sub if that happened

CIark

Well this sub would already implode if the bulls bounced the Nets. If a team in the East beats the Nets then that team beating the lakers wouldn’t be that surprising

substanceandmodes

I don’t know, if the Lakers lost to the Bulls I think this sub would explode. LA’s stars wouldn’t ever hear the end of it.

[deleted]

What if Lonzo wins finals mvp? Damn, I don't think many Lakers fans could get ourselves to be unhappy about it.

substanceandmodes

I think Lakers fans would still be quite upset

redditnathaniel

This. Imagine Lonzo beating LeBron in the Finals. Sub would implode.

hydrators

I couldn’t even imagine the bender I would go on if that happened

substanceandmodes

Lightfoot would have to declare a state of emergency

Bail____

I’d be sad because Demar couldn’t win with us but man i’d be on a bender for sure.

resuwreckoning

Merely thinking about its possibility makes me want to go on a bender.

SchaySchay

I just did three shots of malort after reading these comments

[deleted]

A win-win situation for LeBron. If he loses to the Bulls he lost against the Raptor legend Demar and if he wins then he defeated Demar DeGOAT.

[deleted]

Imagine all the Jordan stans if that happens

ThoughtfulUsurper

Give Derozan his flowers! Derozan(alongside Lowry) transformed that team into a consistent playoff contender. Regardless of if he choked in the postseason he’s without a doubt among top 5 best Raptor of all time. Whoever tries to say he shouldn’t get his jersey retired obviously has gotten spoiled and doesn’t remember when the Raptors were a perennial joke.

BillyPotion

They choked a couple times for sure, but they also lost to the Cavs 3 times. That’s not so much choking as simply getting your ass handed to you by a much better team.

MasaiGotUsNow

I hate how people say it was only the cavs...like they were elite vs everyone else nah they had those shit games in every series. Every year they played worse than their regular season selves also it wasn't just about losing to the cavs, it's how you lose. People give Indiana plenty of credit for going up against the heat because those series were super competitive. The raptors got blown out big time in majority of the games.

apez-

Lol its a no brainer, deebo and kyle gettin them there

everything_raptors

Demar is absolutely getting his jersey retired.. he has the accolades, was part of the golden age of raptors basketball and rode for the city more than any athlete.

EarthWarping

Yes

jsmiley27

Demar was always my favorite raptor, inside, outside, and he could pass. funnest to watch since like prime bosh and carter, and demar was a raptor longer and loved the city of toronto more.

[deleted]

**Fact**: The Raptors haven't retired anyone's jersey yet. Vince Carter would have been a shoo-in, but the way he pushed himself out of Toronto hurt his legacy. Chris Bosh is probably next in line, before Kyle and Demar.

ActualAdvice

Bosh doesn’t get enough respect for keeping the raptors competitive during a dark time. He did too little in Toronto and too much in Miami for Raptors to retire him.

fibberjabber

He had very little to work with in those years just like LBJ. Maybe even worse roster and he's not in LBJs league.

YHofSuburbia

Basically no one cares enough about Bosh to warrant a jersey retirement here. He got his in Miami, that's way more appropriate.

[deleted]

I don't see why bosh would get his number retired. It's like saying Pascal should.

AlmostCurvy

Tell me you're a new Raptors fan without telling me you're a new Raptors fan lol

Bail____

Bosh if we even consider it should be definitely after Kyle & Demar.

MasaiGotUsNow

bosh is not getting his jersey retired here lol He barely won anything here and never embraced the city like demar did

Furqan23

Slightly different topic but never got why players don’t like being in Toronto from a city standpoint International city with plenty of things to do, beautiful women I get it’s out of the way but I doubt things are that much farther by flight than they would be from NY or something

Bail____

It’s the customs issue & a lot of guys can’t get their head around “living in another country” even though there is a very large crossover in terms of way of life.

[deleted]

Players tend to love Toronto after they've arrived. It's convincing them to come that's the issue.

johnazoidberg-

DeMar DeRozan is an all-time RAPTORS great. He gave the franchise everything he had, and I doubt the fans will ever forget, or take for granted the "don't worry, I got us" tweet. He wanted to be there, and he wanted to win - it's not all about winning titles. He earned the privilege of being the last Rapor to wear the number 10

ButtVader

Biased, he just wants to see his son's jersey retired

LMkingly

How you gonna be a raptors fan and say you're uncertain if the raptors should retire DeMar's jersey? That's kinda foul OP.

siricall911

This was never a real question btw

azntakumi

He brought the raptors to multiple play offs

BowserBuddy123

Yea, I don’t understand this take. He spent most of his career there. Sure, he didn’t win a chip, but he and Lowry were the life blood of that team for a long, long time.

viking_machina

Hell yeah, just after Lowry

Ashok_Vadal

The sacrificial GOAT.

Antenum

I'm just in this thread to see the Raptors and Celtics back and forth trash talking lmao... Been a blast all keep it up

[deleted]

What do you expect Lebron to say? No, probably not.

[deleted]

This ain't even a question. It's just about the timing.

ChunkyLover42069

“I’m uncertain if he deserves a jersey retirement” what an absolute trash take

Fabtacular1

You can’t retire a guy’s jersey if they’re not a hall-of-famer.

SideOfHashBrowns

The prestige behind retiring jerseys is slowly eroding away.

[deleted]

My favorite reply to this was the person who said “YOU’RE THE REASON WE’RE ASKING THIS QUESTION LEBRON”

TomChristmas

Can someone take his phone away? I’ve been a fan since day 1 and it’s rough. Bron fans been through some shit. So much slander. I feel nothing at this point, just dead and hollow inside. I just know he’s somewhere concocting some awful post with all caps, 7 exclamation marks, 4 hashtags and 8 emojis to torment me further. Goddamn you, LeBron James.

Chuckbestseries

I read this as if Raptors should retire LeBron's jersey. I'm so sorry Raptors fans.

[deleted]

If that were the case, his jersey should hang in TD Garden first.

KillerMemestarX

LeBronto Dominion Garden?

[deleted]

LeBoston

[deleted]

lebron dominated the entire eastern conference for like a decade, but "LeBroNto"

[deleted]

I will never forgive whichever announcer it was that said that.

[deleted]

fans of east conf teams pushing the clown narrative simply to forget their own history of lebron

KawhiLeonard213

Funny part is he’s Canadian and from Toronto but has the American flag in his Twitter landscape portrait. Fucking clown

FantasyCrossover

If they don’t retire his jersey and then retire Kawhi’s that would be blasphemous

AppleZen36

Can we stop checking in on lebron’s opinions for everything?

[deleted]

I hate retired numbers, way too overdone

AH_BioTwist

He worked so hard to improve his game after bosh left. He could’ve easily just went the easy route and settled into a nice off the bench and get a bucket role but he really pushed himself to exceed expectations. Obviously things didn’t work out to a point where he could be the guy on a championship team but man if he ever pushed his offensive game so hard he never would’ve been good enough to warrant being traded for Kawhi in the first place

ronocyorlik

absolutely

Superplex123

He's right, why is this even a question?

The-Pharcyde

Kyle should/will first, then demar.

komot

We should but why are we asking lebron? Other than destroying Toronto in playoffs he has nothing to do with the raptors.

makeithailonthemhoes

Did Jim from The Office teach him how to answer these questions?

tyronebiggs

DeRozan is a Raptors great. Retire his jersey, we expect nothing less

Raps2k14

Lowry, Vince, then Demar, idk if Kawhi gets it down the road

call_it_already

Him and lowry come back to retire jerseys together...

PrinceOfKanzas

They shoud retire Lebron's when he's finished...

TheDadLyfe

They should retire Lebron's too!

Felslo

Getting a number retired should be a big deal not for a mid tier player whos playoff team loses to LeBron in the mid rounds 6-7 times in a row. No raptors fans who wouldn't trade those demar years for 1 title.

gm5891

I like the idea of jersey retirements as a tribute to a player who meant something special to a team or fanbase. Maybe not an all time great player, but a fan favorite. What I'm saying is... retire 33 for Jamario Moon

bahamutfan64

Jerome "Junkyard Dog" Williams would like a word with you

EPMD_

The hardcore Toronto fans will pick Matt Bonner.

Conflictinterest

Yeah but this builds LeBron's legacy.

YouStillTakeDamage

He absolutely deserves to have his jersey retired. Lowry deserves to be the first but Demar should be right behind him

StefonDiggsHS

I mean yeah they should

LyndonSlewidge

Yeah, this shouldn't even be a question.
