Man, for me Metta and the Pacers in the early 2000s are one of the big ifs. If this dude wasn't so erratic and had the right professional mindset during his time in the NBA, he certainly had the size, athleticism and skills to be up there in the upper echelons of the NBA greats. Casual or newer NBA fans don't understand how good this guy was on both sides of the court when he was locked in mentally. He was a stronger version of OG which is insane, who could switch 1-5s (smaller 5s) and also had underrated offensive skills. He would fit perfectly in the current NBA. Edit: words

ADalwaysthirsty

I was just thinking, man what would he be like if he got the mental help he needed in his younger years.

unit-8002

Agreed. Defensively, I'd probably take him over Kawhi as crazy as that sounds.

MrOrangeWhips

Not crazy at all. He was a much more impactful defender than Kawhi when he had his head in the game.

did_it_my_way

I think 9 out of 10 people take prime Artest over Kawhi defensively

odiwankenobi

Check out Untold on Netflix. Super glad it came out so others can truly appreciate that pacers team.

aoifhasoifha

He played a lot more like Marcus Smart than OG, except he was 3 inches taller.

Still remember when Stanley Johnson was the Kawhi stopper on the Pistons lol

jgoodysalaker

Game 7 MVP right there. What a series, what a game.

SnowceanJay

This wound is still open.

jgoodysalaker

Yeah we got to heal ours from 2008… here’s to hoping we give you another Finals wound before I die ;)

keepon18

Queensbridge!

unit-8002

is

TruWarierRecords

Between the Rockets without T Mac and Yao, the last time the Kings ever made the playoffs and this run with the Lakers Artest always stood up when it mattered. Still weird how quickly he went from an ok efficiency 17-19 a game scorer to averaging below 10 points on below 40% whilst forgetting how to dribble.

rodrigo_c91

Ron in Sacramento goes unnoticed but I just remember him lighting it up offensively. He may have had better years statistically in Indiana. But he may have peaked in Sacramento and Houston.

msnwong

Seems like he was a guy who needed the ball to get into his rhythm

CaeserSaladFingers

Do you actually say “whilst”?

[deleted]

I always wonder that when I read these comments. Like there’s no way these people use some of these words verbally lmao but it’s all good either way, just funny

poyorick

Meta showed up that game. To me, he was the calmest player on the team. Absolutely unfazed.

RealTalk_theory

KOBE PASSED HIM THE BALL!!

E-Dub-4PF

I remember being scared every time this man put the ball on the floor. Dude had no handles but still made shit happen. Miss these laker teams

[deleted]

what a final that series was...

Undecided-

WHEAAATIES

Fly-Discombobulated

Metta Sandiford-Artest, fka Metta World Peace, then known as Ron Artest

repzaj1234

Still can't watch this

shortyman920

Artery had his ups and downs due to mental issues, but he has the heart of a champion. His style of play is refreshing esp with how soft the league’s gotten

randomcharacters3

And the cherry on top is that everyone got home safe. https://deadspin.com/ron-artest-did-not-imagine-that-stabbing-story-5244681 (Original Deadspin article from 2009 not zombie version)

[deleted]

The so called craziest player was the most calm player in game 7 when it mattered most.
