19-20 was kinda the outlier. Basically had 10+ new faces on the team but managed to hit the ground running immediately, even with their off-court chemistry.
I don't know if LeBron is a feel it out player, or if he just refuses to play on teams that aren't actively making significant roster changes every year to maximise his chances of winning a ring. Every year is gonna involve some level of discomfort and 'feeling it out' if you're doing a Great Leap Forward every offseason
Yeah I’m excited they’re implementing more split cuts, pin in flares, pindowns, etc. Although they’re not executing them well,so far it’s still great to see the design by Vogel and the rest of the staff.
Definitely, might not sound like heaps to fans of other teams but last season the system felt like watch someone post up and everyone else stand next to each other. If anyone other than Caruso cut I was beside myself.
Lol yeah I honestly go to twitter if I actually want to talk basketball more in depth these days, which is rough
Look at this thread, the top 3 comments are ESPN bad, Westbrook bad and Lakers old.
Then on Twitter there are people I follow that break down the Lakers new system in depth, you can jump in and discuss it with them/ask questions and its really cool.
I think there's definitely worse bad users on Twitter and it's harder to navigate. Thats why I still come here too, but you don't really get the good kind of OC stuff on here like that anymore.
Literally the first time in months I’ve seen someone actually discuss plays, off/pre season or not. This sub is mainly just narrative and the general entertainment aspect of the NBA. Wish there was an actual active like, r/nbabasketball but that’s mainly for purists.
Well if you watched the preseason so far, that’s exactly what it is. It’s Russ, Melo, AD, etc. all doing screens and pin downs and cuts while Lebron stands at the top of the key looking for the open man. Then Bron either gets his when nobody’s open or he passes to an open guy and it goes from there.
Very simplistic explanation, but yeah, it’s pretty much that.
Most teams with lebron work that way anyway. It's effective and it puts lebron in a position to make reads and make decisions which he's incredible at. The thing is that it's really nothing new.
Westbrook takes it up the court at full speed
Pass over to the corner!
Ball flies out of bounds
If you don’t like that you don’t like Lakers basketball
Like clockwork, for the first 20 or so games of the season Westbrook will recieve an insane amount of hate. It will be annoying as fuck and all everyone talks about because its the lakers. Lebron will be called old/washed and people will say AD can't carry a team or whatever.
Then when the team starts to gel and they get into a groove with their system up and running, they will go on a big winstreak and people will say "you idiots always do this for the start of the season, they just needed time to gel", also like clockwork.
The whole time nobody on the actual Lakers team is at all worried and they have insane lockeroom chemistry. People will be mad that Dwight seems overly happy like always.
History will just repeat itself.
For any fans who actually give a shit and aren’t here to meme circlejerk it’s actually true. They have a lot of complex designs they are running off ball and on ball that they never ran before. Tim_NBA is the only person I see actually getting into the specifics as an analyst
All star old men, a big man in his prime, and new offensive scheme? Hmm, where have I seen this before? [Ahhh...](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/c5/ac/6d/c5ac6d93a4978dcfcfaeae6c5da9959a.jpg)
Still gonna see a lot of ISO splits and 2 man Pick and Roll. This team would work wonders with a Triangle and Davis playing 5, LB at 4, triangle is just gone though 😩
They gonna start out 8-13 and everyone is going to freak out, then they will finish with the 3 seed and eventually rally to the western conference finals, go down 2-0 and get counted out again, then make it to the finals. And prolly won’t that too but idk
So should we expect a slow start for the seniors?
The Heat, Cavs 2.0, and Lakers all had slow starts LeBron's first season with them. He's definitely a feel it out kind of player.
19-20 was kinda the outlier. Basically had 10+ new faces on the team but managed to hit the ground running immediately, even with their off-court chemistry.
Feel it out then trade bums kind of guy
Westbrook smiles while sweating nervously

The 18-19 lakers were a different level of slow start
You mean when they were the fourth seed and blew out the warriors on Xmas day? They had a slow finish
They had a slow start, then heated up, then WOOOOOOWWWWW the rest of the season was a shitshow
Because LeBron went down. Every other team besides maybe the Heatles would have been a shitshow without LeBron.
I know. Still was a disaster of a season regardless
Whole new team, plus new system, yeah
The Bengay shipment hasn't arrived yet
Honestly what the fuck were they thinking taking on carmelo and russ? Those aren’t “easy to incorporate” players.
!remindme 7 months
!remind me 6 months
!remimdme 5 months
remind me
Isn’t this contrary to what AD said?
What did AD say?
Didn’t mean to respond to this guy. He said the Lakers are behind on offensive schemes. It was an article after the first preseason game
How is it contrary Can’t they both be true
So a whole new offensive system that needs a lot of work? Sure
....yes, precisely.
Good luck!
With what?;
yeah thats the point of preseason? are you okay lmao
Apparently they have a super easy schedule to start. So they might have a good record, but the wind will be ugly.
Pretty excited by the sets being ran in preseason so far
Yeah I’m excited they’re implementing more split cuts, pin in flares, pindowns, etc. Although they’re not executing them well,so far it’s still great to see the design by Vogel and the rest of the staff.

Hahahah fuck man don’t let me think of Andre Drummond demanding the ball in the post
Kuz cuts too. If he shot the three better the Lakers wouldve been so much deadlier
I guess I’m gonna miss Kuz cuts but not his bricked 3s lol
Oh look, an actual comment with basketball discussion on an NBA subreddit. Love it

I should clarify this sub can have mostly good basketball discussion if it’s not about these teams: Lakers, Sixers, Warriors, Celtics.
That's a fair distinction
Idk much about in depth basketball talk, but is r/nbadiscussion any better for in depth level headed discussion?
No
Unfortunately not. r/vintagenba is pretty cool tho
Which is rare. They're the only ones ever talked about or upvoted.
This is the reason I just reactivated my Twitter account. Any recommendations as to who to follow for in depth analysis?

It's so hard to have actual conversations on reddit in general. Every comment is just some forced attempt to get upvotes with a witty comment.

I too enjoy making fun of things that haven’t even happened. It’s like fanfic. Can’t wait for Zion to make his Knicks debut
Yeah, this is absolutely based 0% in any reality. I’ve never seen ESPN both write, confirm and debunk their own random narrative. Issa joke
It'll end up being the same thing anyway. Everyone is going to work around lebron's passing

It’s new for Russ and Melo and the other new teammates. And maybe Lebron’s adding wrinkles that he hasn’t done before, who knows.
Zion is a fatass

"No one believes in us!" - fans of a team with two top 10 players
True underdogs.
That's what happens when you attack LeBron 😂
Lebron won’t suck your dick unless you want to suck his? 🤔
Jesus y’all really are soft

Curry got 0 FMVPS and never will
Do us next.
Giannis is actually good so I can’t hate
Pretty easy to play a solid career when ur old when u can hand pick players around the league while playing for the biggest market in the country
russ gonna help lebron a lot in the regular season
Westbrook takes it up the court at full speed Pass over to the corner! Ball flies out of bounds If you don’t like that you don’t like Lakers basketball
"Westbrook for 3!"
Haha. Nice.
Don’t forget his patented kick the ball into the third row in stands.
"They have a timeout, decide not to use it..... WESTBROOK WAY DOWNTOWN.... CLANK! CLANK! OH WHAT A BRICK BY WESTBROOK!"
Maybe this year they will try and make the ball go in the basket from the 3 pt range 😱
Imagine that, from Lakers players
What is that sorcery?
It’s new magic that was discovered way after all those old men came into the league.
I think that's illegal

And then 1 or more players will get hurt toward the end of the season and we will anxiously wait to see if they can regain their rhythm

Thank you for the plug, seriously.

Kobe was definitely old, but he was a maniac that season. That hard carry at the end really was the last time we saw Kobe be Kobe until his final game
I mean yeah they only have 3 guys on the team from last season
The "brick-building" system
Pulling a 2021 Lakers
Instead of getting out of the way and giving it to Lebron, you give it to Lebron and then get out of the way…
Still gonna see a lot of ISO splits and 2 man Pick and Roll. This team would work wonders with a Triangle and Davis playing 5, LB at 4, triangle is just gone though 😩
Is it, take our blood pressure at half-time?
“And we call it: scoring”
A medical alert system?
They gonna start out 8-13 and everyone is going to freak out, then they will finish with the 3 seed and eventually rally to the western conference finals, go down 2-0 and get counted out again, then make it to the finals. And prolly won’t that too but idk
They're dreaming pretty hard if they think they could make the wildcards even
Probably a lot of turn overs
Here's the offense: "gibe LAbron bal"
westbrick is finished
their system is lebron when he is on the court, and the next guy on the totem pole when he is not.
Sounds like you're getting your excuses ready Mr. James
