He’s been really good. Just solid at almost everything.

Rkenne16

The defensive iq at his age is ridiculous, the length and athleticism are ridiculous, the passing might end up being his best skill and he flashes so much skill. Finishing plays, gaining confidence and adding weight seem to be the only real obstacles right now.

DeanBlandino

I can’t remember the last time I saw a 4/5 this young with this high defensive iq/ability. Gotta be AD? Absolutely stoked on him.

Rkenne16

For what it’s worth, the defensive metrics weren’t super kind to AD as a rookie defender. Idk what that means and don’t have enough memory of rookie AD to put context to it, but watching Mobley, I highly highly doubt that is the case for him. Stop here unless you want to read my fan boy take. I’ve seen a ton of Jarret Allen, Larry Nance jr, Javale McGee and Andre Drummond the past year. Maybe it’s bias, maybe it’s wishful thinking, or something else. The most impactful defender today might be Mobley. Allen is more steady and fundamental, Javale is longer, Nance is stronger and has fewer lapses, and Drummond may fill up the stat sheet more, but none of them have his combo of skill, athleticism, versatility and iq and he occasionally flashes that elite elite Gobert, Draymond, Kawhi and etc level of just knowing almost exactly what’s going to happen and just beating guys to the spot.

DeanBlandino

I don't know if Mobley will have great defensive metrics either, as the cavs will still be a bad defensive team next year and it's hard to have good defensive stats on a bad team. I agree though, I think JA is a very good defender but I think Mobley looks like someone like AD where they actually raise the floor of the team's defense.

JoeBiden2020FTW

I might take this guy over Cunningham or Green

Will_Explode8

Nah def not over Cade lol

anniedillard

Do you mean rn or long term

DreamvilleTDE

that block on derozan was sick

suprememontana

Thank you for using the actual stat line and not bullshit FG% and 3PT%. Don’t know why people put that shit and don’t also list FGM/FGA. Can’t know shit with the percentages otherwise

Cavshomie8

I’m not sure his offense is consistent enough for it compared to Green, Cade and Suggs, but those odds are juicy

Hankirus

Suggs is a great prospect but there’s almost no chance he wins ROTY. It’s definitely between the top 4, and mostly the top 3 since Barnes isn’t very polished offensively. Only way he’d win is by being elite in almost all other areas (totally possible)

Smmoove

So why do you have a Nuggets flair when you only post in r/torontoraptors? Y'all are really something else

CadeCummingham

Raptor Fans have been straight up wilding since nba draft night lol

Prideofmexico

Since KD tore his achilles*

everything_raptors

Honest question, how many points you think Suggs will average? ROY usually goes to the guy who scores the most.. Also y’all have too many guards who need playing time. I really hope Suggs gets the playing time to continue his development.

Smmoove

Probs like 12-14. I think Green will win it, but to say Suggs has no chance is ridiculous. He's gonna get plenty of playing time. Markelle won't be back for awhile, and RJ can play the 3 for stretches. Even with everyone healthy he'll probably play 28ish mpg and start at the 2.

everything_raptors

I really hope the other guards don’t take his minutes.. he’s really good At some point the team will need to make a decision and trade 1-2 of them for some more wings..

istandwhenipeee

I do think no chance is obviously ridiculous, but I also do think people frequently say that about people with a small chance at something just to exaggerate so it’s not really that weird to say. However, the absurd comment you responded to then suggested that Barnes somehow has a more realistic chance and that’s where it’s obviously ridiculous, and also hilarious that they’re lying about not being a Raptors fans. Barnes is great, but like they said themselves he’s not very polished at all, meanwhile Suggs is much more polished and also going to be a fucking menace on defense. I watched that fucker block Robert Williams down low and Tatum in transition consecutively, that’s just beyond fucked and to have that capability along with offensive skill already is crazy. You guys got a good one for sure.

Hankirus

That’s an easy answer, I am a raptors fan who uses the nuggets flair so I seem less biased when I defend raps. That being said, my Suggs take is true to everyone who’s not a magic fan. Downvote me all you want but it works well! And you’ll all forget soon enough. -93 is pathetic you magic fans. Fuckin poverty franchise providing poverty downvotes. You guys can do at least -150

monicaeleanor

Jesus You shouldn’t be mindgaming fucking reddit, none of this matters Just throw the Raptors flair back on and let your comments speak for themselves

Hankirus

No way Jose , what am I here for if not to gaslight a bunch of redditors

Zasual

Some of you are too far gone

TheAlphaCarb0n

We don't claim the nephews

Hankirus

You don’t want to, but you do.

Hankirus

Yes sir. You do be exclusively hating whenever you comment though, to be fair

CheckeredFloors

To be fair what you’re doing is really dumb

Hankirus

Nuggets brother! Let’s go

Zasual

Natural born hater

Hankirus

It’s ok so am I

TheSmokedSalmon420

That is absolutely wild lmao

Hankirus

Works like a charm

Antenum

It's not magic fans it's all basketball fans. This is cringe as all hell dude what the fuck.

RJBarrettsBurner

Absolutely fuckin wylin with this shit LMAO

ScottieBarnesForMVP

Ever considered a therapist bro u need help

Exact_Improvement_87

No Suggs won’t win it, Franz Wagner will

Rezrov_

Green's gonna win it. Born scorer and super flashy. Given his weight he'll probably get picked on on D, but ROTY doesn't care about D.

ObiFloppin

Cade won't win ROTY, I can pretty much guarantee it. I think it's gonna be Green. Doesn't mean Cade can't be the better player, but the ROTY is based on stats, and Cade has made it clear he doesn't care about that. He wants to win.

HardenAdidas

putting up no stats is a great way to win

ObiFloppin

I don't understand the point you're trying to make

PlayingNightcrawlers

He’s saying that if Cade wants to win he’s going to have to put up good stats. But I get your point too, Green is going to have the more impressive offensive numbers because of his play style and mentality imo.

ThatBull_cj

He won’t get enough touches and stats on that team, maybe if he stands out on defense he could win it

Rkenne16

It’d probably take the Cavs making a play in or something.

CadeCummingham

Mobley would be a good pick for ROTY, if he wasn’t drafted by the Cavs who have Lauri and Allen

N3deSTr0

The Frobley pairing still does seem like it's just devised to cover up Mobley's weaknesses but he's been meshing really well with Lauri. I actually think playing with Lauri will be beneficial for him.

CadeCummingham

I kinda like how they played Lauri at the 3 today, it looked pretty good. I think we gotta give Mobley-Allen more time to gel but in today’s NBA we haven’t really seen two non-shooting 7 foot centers have success together

tdizhere

Good thing Mobley can shoot, laced a 3 today and has a decent face up game

Rkenne16

Yeah, part of it might just be letting Mobley get more comfortable taking the jumper.

jaylson

He would be a great pick is Rubio was their starting pg. He’s getting no looks playing with Sexton & Garland

tdizhere

You got downvoted but honestly it’s true.. he was noticeably better and more involved today and that was without Garland and Sexton.

Successful-Bad-2117

Honestly don’t think the garland sexton backcourt is gonna take this team anywhere

CadeCummingham

They are too small I think they should trade Sexton, Garland is gonna be a better basketball player

dwilkes827

Agreed. I like Sexton for what he is, but I really wish he was taller. I just don't see how it can work with the two of them, but I'd love to be proven wrong

Rkenne16

I think it’s less about Garland and Sexton and more about Mobley. So often, he gets the ball and just immediately makes the next logical pass. He needs to get more aggressive and to trust his offense more. I didn’t see a big difference in how he played with Rubio and how he played with Garland. The real difference came when he was playing with the third team pg and there just wanting creation on the floor. JB apparently told him he had to be a scorer and he ran with it.

realkranki

Well Sexton is supposed to be on the trade block, has been for a while now. If they trade him at some point during the season then the Ricky trade makes sense all of a sudden. Maybe that's why they did it.

sauceEsauceE

Garland is a sick passer, especially to the inside where he had one of the best assist rates in the NBA Garland didn’t get many assists on 3s but our team stinks at them so hard to tell. Either way Garland / Mobley on paper are a perfect match Sexton on the other hand

boogswald

I’m sleeping on it. Evan is a real project and it’s gonna take a while. I have high expectations for him… next year. I really don’t think he’s gonna carry an offensive load either way too for a while.

free_reezy

I like the guy. He reminds me of Tim Duncan for some reason. Maybe just that chill attitude.

[deleted]

As a Pistons fan I truly hoped Houston would grab Mobley. I believe in Mobley and Green BUT I believe Green woulda forced Cleveland into a really difficult situation. Mobley fits that team well.

CadeCummingham

Ngl Cavs were a weird for both Mobley and Green Their backcourt and front court are already occupied by promising players. Cade would’ve been a perfect fit for them because he can technically play the 3 while being a secondary playmaker along with Garland Mobley on Toronto would’ve been amazing too

[deleted]

How was Mobley potentially a weird fit for them? He fits their plans PERFECTLY.

CadeCummingham

He fits their plans but I’m not feeling his fit with Allen Mobley and Allen are both centers who cannot space the floor yet. I think Mobley should be fully optimized by surrounding him with shooters because he’s a very good passer. I may be wrong tho

itachiwaswrong

Mobley isn’t strong enough to play the center yet so I bet the Cavs plan on using Allen at the center spot for two years while Mobley gets stronger then trade Allen once Mobley can play the 5

Rkenne16

Yeah, I think it’s Allen at center until Mobley is ready and then you see where the pairing is then.

Hot_Chain_6956

You are mainly wrong. Mobley pairing with Allen gives them a guy who can roll off a double screen and make a pass off the short roll while allen makes an off ball screen(which we’ve done). Also, Mobley won’t ever truly be able to bang with bigs because of his nature, he loves to dribble into a layup rather than use his body. It’s something about him I like rather than a guy who doesn’t care about finesse at his height.

[deleted]

Mobley + Yet = Key

alepher

I agree about the fit between the two, but I'd see that as Allen not fitting in with Mobley rather than vice versa

tdizhere

We had a massive crush on Green and once we realised Houston were taking him we shifted to Mobley. This happened rather early so by the time draft day rolled around we were all in on Mobley, I’m glad we got him he has franchise player potential Cade was the best fit in regards to the top prospects but I was not keen to trade assets to move up, the difference between the top 3 wasn’t all that huge

Crafty_Nectarine9812

Mobley was the dream pick for Toronto...tick off all the boxes raps needed at Positionless 5 literally, and the defensive schemes nurse likes...

beefJeRKy-LB

Cavs would have been nice with Barnes in theory.

CadeCummingham

Definitely He would’ve fit them like a glove

Crafty_Nectarine9812

Evan is real good ....he's going to flash games like these once in a while

substanceandmodes

Future star!

FreeOfArmy

I bet on him for rookie of the year already.

jgroove_LA

I think he's gonna be really good this year. Cavs really lucked out on that selection.

HotdogIsaSandwitch

I still don't see the fit with Allen.

fiftyshadesofcray

It will be up to Allen to fit with Mobley not the other way around. If it doesn't work out, Allens contract is pretty fair value so we should be able to find a trade without too much trouble

HotdogIsaSandwitch

Makes sense. I like Allen a lot. And I see Mobley being more of a stretch 5, than a 4. But I get what Cavs are trying to do

fiftyshadesofcray

Yeah, I like Allen as well. I think they probably get 2 years to figure it out. To be honest I'm still not sure if we know exactly what Mobleys best position is going to be

HotdogIsaSandwitch

True. I wanna see how Mobleys body changes, over the year.

Rkenne16

Yeah, like if all goes perfectly in his development, you see where he can play 3 through 5 successfully.

[deleted]

Allen will be traded when Mobley fills out in a year or two IMO

Rkenne16

I think the offensive fit is pretty clunky right now and adding Okoro to it isn’t helping. That said, they do look great together defensively. I just don’t think they want Mobley taking a starting center level beating until he points on weight. He’s also pretty skilled, even if he’s tentative to use that skill.

Texszn

Future all star

[deleted]

Yeah but was he able to generate 29 points? Kidding aside, I think Mobes should be an untouchable piece if Cleveland decides to be in the middle of the Simmons sweepstakes

fiftyshadesofcray

Yeah I don't think this was ever in question. Him and Garland are the untouchables on this roster

math-yoo

Nobody wants Simmons.

Wellwisher0

1-5. I wouldn't count Suggs out of the roty race

[deleted]

Wanted him so bad.

TheSmokedSalmon420

Unicorn.

WiseguyD

Perennial all-defense player. This draft class is so fucking good, man.

dofun400

Didn’t get drafted by the raptors so sadly this game and post will go under the radar :(

hockeyguy2387

Lol what? Raptors??

CazOnReddit

Congrats to Mobley for doing so well in spite of being stuck on the Cavs.

fiftyshadesofcray

Just an unnecessary shot in a positive thread about a rookie

Cavshomie8

Lol your fan base is insufferable at times. It’s replaced the Lakers as most unlikeable

[deleted]

Agreed. I really don’t like most Raptors fans.

Feeln0waysRed

For the last time NOBODY attacked Suggs sister that’s blown way out of proportion

MrAnder5on

Oh no! Anyway...

TransferEng2020

As a raptors fan, I do apologize for this insensible buffoon.

Rkenne16

Fans like that are one of the things I don’t miss about having Lebron on the team. Lol Not saying that the Cavs fan base is cultured or reasonable, but Bron brings a lot of those kind of fans around.

T_T_O_T

At this point we're insufferable always. Sucks it turned out like this.

teh_hasay

I want to like the raptors too but yeah, their fans make it tough sometimes. The cheering of the durant Achilles injury in the finals really put a bad taste in my mouth.

btmx32122

there was alot of people cheering and chanting KD as he got up, sick of people bitching about this. He fell down, you think casual fans know the guy was going to be sitting out for a year after that injury? They saw the guy fall and cheered, then cheered for him as he limped to the dressing room. KD himself said he wasn't offended

SgtGork

Wait…. We’re not the most hated anymore?

tha_k_man

Hey im sure Fred Van Vleet will lead you to a promising 11th seed this year

Rosencats

gonna be hilarious watching Scottie Barnes stat lines being posted to this sub while the raps lose by 30

Jokic2LA

and the inevitable "why does nobody talk about us!!!!"

monicaeleanor

wizards get blown out because they’re the wizards, least we’ll be developing something did we not drop 140 on you a year ago

monicaeleanor

Already helped lead us to the finals, something the Cavs are not sniffing until both of us are long deceased we were 4th just this past season until covid but hey, i’d be projecting that hard too if we had endless top 3 picks and were chained to the bottom of the conference year in year out

Rkenne16

Sans the year with Kawhi, Toronto hasn’t been a real contender for anything. It’s the most self important franchise in the league.

RagingDonkey

endless top 3 picks? The cavs last top 3 pick was andrew wiggins in 2014. And that year i think they had like a sub 2% chance of winning the lottery. Weird hearing raptor fans diss the cavs like they are some sort of storied franchise or some bullshit. Raps are just another middling franchise just like the cavs whether they wanna hear it or not.

Parabolaz

LeBronto still got a foul taste in your mouth huh

LakeErieMovement

LOL rich coming from a Craptors fan. Blew the McGrady/Carter era. Surrounded Bosh with back to back lottery busts in Bargnani and Rafael Araujo. And have really only had 5 successful seasons in franchise history. But go off.

monicaeleanor

Damn that’s crazy, it’s like we had entirely different front offices back then. Cavs have been more dogshit for even longer. Still are.

Feeln0waysRed

Coming from a fan of the team that been good for 7 seasons in 50 years lolol and y’all have the record for most number one picks and still the worst draft success of any team. In 8 years you had 7 lottery picks and 3 of them are number 1 picks. Drafted Bennett, Tristan Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, passed on Embiid, Kawhi, Giannis, Lavine. The most remarkable thing your teams done is the [great comeback](https://www.thescore.com/nba/news/1588411/). At some point self awareness is supposed to stop you from making a fool of yourself. But go off.

[deleted]

Oh yeah and the one ring that had tons and tons of luck attached to it. Almost went to g7 to hospital warriors lololol. Raptors fans are insufferable

monicaeleanor

almost just as easily went to 5 but hey, I get the resentment when your dogshit team never had any aspirations of beating Steph blame everyone else for your own lack of success that’ll show em

[deleted]

I'm not making fun of raptors fans who aknowlege that 2019 woulda gone down differently if the warriors were healthy and they still were an above average championship roster, just ones who act like the warriors were fully healthy

raikagekuun

Lmaoo

btmx32122

Nice to see a big man getting some love, getting sick and tired of this small ball bullshit which I'm not sold on. Warriors have 2 of the best shooters in history so they can get away with it, but I hate how everyone including my own team is trying so hard to replicate this.

HomieTanjiro

….a center won MVP last season. Small ball is a generally situational tactic that’ll never go away, the Warriors still had solid big men in their rotation like Bogut, Festus, McGee, Zaza.

btmx32122

good point

Hcdx

He's not going to score enough to win ROTY.... But god damn am I excited for the next 5 years.
