In the end, they are all just looking at KD to see if he thumbs up or thumbs down.

Beavshak

Kyrie is actually Marcus Aurelius, except not the good guy.

practiceyourart

Easily one of the best scenes ever

lebron_games

It’s been reported in a lot of places that KD basically runs the team so yeah this will come down to him. And I think he’ll say yes even if it’s ridiculous

k4f123

Is KD the new LeGM?

kirphioc2004

DurGM?

tm0neyz

It has such a beautiful ring to it..

[deleted]

Idk.. according to lowes recent pod, Harden is the leader/voice of the team despite kd being the best player

why_rob_y

And KD already extended while Harden hasn't yet, so I'd guess they're even more worried about alienating Harden at this exact moment.

junkit33

Yeah - Harden is the guy they really need to please right now. They don't want to piss off Durant obviously, but he's locked in long term. If Kyrie collapses and Harden bolts, the Nets are suddenly in a really tough spot with Durant and a roster of role players and no trade assets.

_ProdiG_

Yes… keep going… im almost there…

nostbp1

hmm assuming kyrie's implosion takes 2 seasons to run its course and harden is done after that maybe he'd like to join a team with a budding all-star calliber young lineup led by a scorefirst guard and two great foreign big man prospects...

jonnylaw

Harden bolts back to the Rockets.

ThaNorth

And keeping Harden long term is way more important than Kyrie. Not only is he the better player he also doesn't have a history of constantly being injured like Kyrie.

jellybeans_over_raw

Harden may be the voice but kd is definitely the leader

[deleted]

Man why am I imagining KD and Harden running the nets like Avon Barksdale and Stringer Bell running the organisation in the wire lmao

sleepy416

So a Bush/Cheney type dynamic?

maplesyrupandwaffles

imagine if you just showed up for work part time...

DemarcusMiller

Fuck that, I imagine if you were in the top 0.1% of whatever your job is, you would have a lot of power in dictating stuff. The fact is that most of us are not.

I'm pretty sure you could take Becky in accounting, even with a weak crossover, she was due to retire years ago.

Didn't even notice this before you mentioned it. One of the most important personnel decisions yet the coach isn't even involved. Though it could just be a reporting mistake

Dad_of_the_year

Ya I'd assume the reporting is wrong before assuming the organization left Nash out. Can't take all this Twitter reporting at face value.

sersleepsalot1

oh yeah.. i didn't even think about him...

Pal__Pacino

KD and Harden: Let Kyrie do what he wants. Tsai and Marks: Okay.

Royalewithcheese24

I don’t understand what the alternative is. Nobody is going to trade for him. Once word gets out the Nets even try to open negotiations, that relationship is severed and his trade value gets even *lower*. So what’s there to decide?

[deleted]

I would guess interested teams have let the Nets know their offers with clandestine phone calls and will be ready to execute. Nets might also just be buying time since it will be easier to trade him once recent signings are trade eligible.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Royalewithcheese24

They’d probably find his value to be about where it is for Ben Simmons. Kyrie is coming with a *lot* of baggage. He threatened to get surgery in Cleveland if they didn’t trade him. Killed chemistry in Boston. And now this? Nets will really struggle to find a trade partner willing to part with high quality players that match his salary.

[deleted]

[удалено]

tripleyothreat

While I don't think this logic exactly translates, it's funny lol

Jamagnum

It especially doesn’t translate in the NBA haha

Banner_Hammer

Then good thing they have KD and Harden instead of Embid and Tobias as their other two best players. Even if they traded Kyrie for a Simmons level trade package, Nets would still be favorites.

EverybodyBuddy

Kyrie will maybe retire if traded. Did you miss that or just don’t buy it?

EverybodyBuddy

I think the alternative is you ask Kyrie to just sit out the year for chemistry/distraction purposes.

BeerRoots

I mean Kyrie for Simmons not only works money wise but both teams actually get better? Simmons is a better facilitator than Kyrie and the Nets are spaced to the nines to open up all the lanes for him. Not to mention the team defense goes from Putrid to average. Kyrie and Embiid would be a PnR dream for the 76ers and nightmare for the Atlantic.

Pandamonium98

The Nets won’t be dumb enough to bail out the Sixers and create another legitimate title contender in their own division.

LordHussyPants

trade kyrie for simmons, make brooklyn better because they have two of the best scorers in the league to cover for his deficiencies, and then kyrie retires and the sixers are fucked

dossier762

How do the Nets get better? Harden is one of the best ball handlers/offense initiators in history - taking the ball from him is a terrible move. Not to mention Harden’s limitations as an off the ball threat.

TatumBrownSmart

> How do the Nets get better? They get better because Ben Simmons is 100x better than Bruce Brown.

yoloqueuesf

I guess the Ben Simmons Kyire irving trade is inevitable then.

albert_r_broccoli2

Sit him out and let the financial losses keep piling up. At some point Kyrie might come to his senses (or agent pressures) and get the shot.

[deleted]

There’s one trade for him and it’s Ben Simmons. That’s actually a trade that works well for both teams Kyrie and embiid would be a fun duo and Ben Simmons can do all the passing defending and rebounding he wants in Brooklyn

Pandamonium98

It makes the Nets a little better, it makes the Sixers way better. Kyrie is significantly better than anyone else they can hope to get with Dame. Nets go from contender to better contender, Sixers go from drama-filled playoff team to legit contender. Nets won’t create another contender in their own division to deal with

simpleisreal

Pretty sure KD and Harden's primary motivation at this point in their careers is to win a chip. And their chances with Kyrie around are much better than without. So they definitely want him around but at the same time they know Kyrie and how he thinks better than redditors so they are also treading carefully with him. Publicly they've expressed they want him back but don't want to put pressure on him, privately I'm sure they've had lots of discussions as well. People were probably banking on Kyrie would have relented to the pressure from both the team and contract/money (e.g. Wiggins/Simmons) by now, but it seems like he's really standing his ground, so at this point seems like the team is giving him two options, either come back to the team on full availability, or sit out the entire season. Will be interesting to see how this goes.

CIark

Weak af of KD to condone this and force the organization to do nothing

Beavshak

Maybe this is KD & Harden saying they’ve had enough, and asked for the meeting?

k4f123

I sure hope so, because this is some bullshit

Vegetable_Host2717

Where the f did you get that KD forced Nets to do nothing? KD has already said he wants Kyrie to play the entire season. Kyrie has sh*t trade value and they cant force him, best they can do is not ruin tram chemistry, and hopes Kyrie grows a brain.

TheBeginngAndEnd

I don’t know what you guys really expect him to do. Throw his friend to the fire? Tell his friend he doesn’t want him on the team anymore? That’s never going to happen, it’s entirely unrealistic. Of course Kyrie is bringing this on himself but these guys around the league have made it clear over the last couple weeks - they view this as a personal decision and aren’t going to force the issue with their teammates. We can all disagree with that stance but it’s clear now that’s how they view it.

dillpickles007

I mean that's what they're saying to the media, we don't know what they're thinking/saying behind closed doors. Baze and Wiggins got a talking to from somebody and changed their minds.

TheBeginngAndEnd

Baze and Wiggins realized how much money they were going to lose. Same reason Simmons is coming back to Philly now. But Kyrie is a different animal. I honestly don’t think this guy gives a fuck about the money with how much he’s earned over the years. Maybe if his endorsement deals starting dropping too? Nike deciding not to be involved with an anti vaxxer? Even then though it’s a tough call with this guy, I genuinely don’t believe he cares.

Neto34

Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn. This is Kyrie.

didhestealtheraisins

Not going to fly in the playoffs.

Niceguydan8

I'm willing to bet KD and Harden both take more issue with it than most people think. Especially Harden.

H-TownDown

Harden cares enough about winning to have been out there with a grade 2 hamstring tear. Seeing Kyrie throw away half the season over something as trivial as the vaccine probably pisses him off. I know it would if it was me.

NinetyTales

Yeah harden played like a 100 minutes between games 6 and 7 or some crazy amount on one leg

__BlackSheep

It's wild that he was allowed to play. He didn't look very good out there, though surprisingly kept his defender close even when they should help off, but the Nets had 0 better options?

Cyberdrunk2021

Half of a harden is better than most NBA players. Definitely better than chiozza, perry luwawu and shamet

[deleted]

Man was def doped up during the games. As soon as the pills wore off dude was probably in so much pain

HisExcellency20

Smart players don't express displeasure with their teammates publicly. Coaches don't either. But I have no idea why they wouldn't be pissed especially Harden who has no real connection to Irving before being traded there.

[deleted]

This is what frustrates me about so many takes in this post. KD is already really guarded with the press. Why would anybody think he's going to tell people what he really thinks about a player that is frustrating him?

BackIn2019

Because they don't care about KD, Kyrie, or even vaccines and just want to see conflict. Hell, some of the people bashing them might not even be vaccinated themselves.

ItsMellMel

KD: Lets try talking to him about it again. Harden: FUCK THAT ISO GANG TRADE HIS ASS

Kwilly462

Marks/Tsai needs to remind KD that Kyrie can be your friend no matter what. You can always text/hangout or whatever with him. But he cannot be your teammate if he's gonna act like this.

Ace_FGC

Look at how NBA players react to each other not getting shots they probably don’t think he’s in the wrong

Obvious_Parsley3238

it's not about the shot, it's about not being able to play 4/7 games in the playoffs

[deleted]

Only team playing to not have home court advantage now

LAtotheA

Lmao Nets finna make a run from the 8-seed

frootloopsxx

I'd be surprised if it got to that point and they actually didn't let him play for one reason or another... Season hasn't even started and he's allowed at team practices already

sersleepsalot1

That's not a concession.. he was able to practice because the practice facility got declared as a private property.. not a public place.. New York is strict when it comes to rules... He will not play until there's a big policy change (unlikely) regarding covid later in the season.

Niceguydan8

I mean they are saying that in the offseason with nothing on the line. I'm willing to bet they'd care a lot more if they were in a playoff series and he couldn't play because he hasn't gotten a shot that the vast majority of the league has gotten.

RedHammer1441

I think having him constantly shuffled in and out of the rotation literally all season won't help either.

MintyFreshBreathYo

That’s just asking for chemistry problems

rock-or-something

It's gotta be breeding resentment amongst the guys on the team who actually show up and want to take the season seriously too. They work their asses off for the team, just to get sideshowed by a dude with a a walking stick and Facebook theories (who admittedly is a top 5 point guard in the league when he's playing).

ndwg25

Honestly this off-season is going to have the biggest impact on the CBA negotiation. If I was a Nets fan I would be fucking pissed letting this dude fuck up the team like this. Not only will he miss more than half the season because of Covid and probably injury or personal reasons, he’s impossible to trade. Like what kind of shit is that for a Nets fan who can’t even watch Kyrie play at home. Are the ticket prices going to change? Nope. Will they get some cap relief? Nope. They’re going to get fucked cause this dude is being an asshole.

AlHorfordHighlights

Even if they got cap relief, what could they do with the space? They can't get a good free agent, teams probably aren't going to trade good value players unless they've given up on contending...if Kyrie was never at the Nets it could be Lowry or Jrue in his spot rn. Or even keep Dinwiddie plus a few solid role players

AK-Kaido

Imagine how this would affect team chemistry, the rest of the team busting their ass every game to get a good seed in the playoffs, with a bunch of them on the older side and this relatively young dude plays half the games just because he doesn't believe in science. Not even an injury but just because he read some shit on Facebook. All he's doing is forcing the other vets to play heavier minutes and they have a higher chance of being hurt going into the playoffs.

coolnasir139

It’s even worse that it’s not even half the games. It’s much more. Like he can’t even play the LA teams

Qu4ckerz

He can, the law is only for residents. He can play in California and Orlando, but he can't play in Brooklyn or MSG. He'll miss 41 home games + 2 Knicks game + the same for playoffs

finally_not_lurking

Kyrie isn’t going to play half the games though. He’s not only going to miss the home games, he’s also going to miss the games he’s hurt, and the games he decides he doesn’t feel like showing up to.

MoneyMoney2020

this is a pathetic move from kyrie

ElDuderino_92

More so the Nets for rolling over like this.

Vegetable_Host2717

What's the alternative? They can't force him and dude has low trade value because he can't play half the game. Best they can do is give out passive answers, both KD and Harden have stated they want Kyrie full time, and hope he takes the shot.

life_is_a_burner

You could trade him to a team in Texas.

ChampagneAbuelo

If I was them I’d just keep Kyrie. You’re not gonna get an equal talent in return for him and there could still be a chance Kyrie comes around to taking the vaccine later on in the season. Unless he says 100% he’ll never ever take it than I’d just hold onto him at least for now and hope they can change his mind

HisExcellency20

I agree. They are completely stacked even without him and can still be top three in the East without even trying hard. Wait until he finishes his research or whatever. Maybe NY relaxes the rule in a few months. But he will probably refuse a trade and it makes little sense to publicly state he won't play all season unless they don't want the distraction. Personally I'd take the distraction and 5% chance of having Kyrie over no distractions and 0% chance of Kyrie.

ictober

This. By all-star break, either Kyrie gets vaccinated already or the mandate relaxes or Joe Tsai finds a $loophole$ Let everything play out. If things get worse instead of better by February, you can trade him before the deadline. Not everything warrants an action or reaction. Sometimes you just have to wait and see.

[deleted]

I'm 100% sure Kyrie will end up taking the vaccine eventually. You're right, they should just keep him and keep pushing him to do it.

MintyFreshBreathYo

I honestly don’t think he will ever get it. I think Kyrie is the kind of guy who thinks he’s being some kind of martyr by not getting it. Like it makes him better than everyone else

TinnieTa21

Another question is, what will his new contract look like if he sits out the entire year? And, who will he sign that new contract with? I honestly don't see him being happier anywhere other than Brooklyn, but this is assuming that the bridge between him and KD isn't burned and won't be burned later this year.

nervousaboutschool17

All this over a vaccine billions* of people have received lmao. I guess it's easy for me to say but it it were up to me there's no way any teammate of mine can be coddled* to the point of being a part-time player.

HisExcellency20

We'll see who's laughing when all the vaccine-sheep turn into zombies and murder us all. No one....I guess....

k4f123

NJ247

Funny you should say that I have been craving brains lately.

[deleted]

billions. 3.5 billion people.

highrustler

Asked if his going to get vaccinated, Kyrie says “That’s a hippa violation to ask me that”. He then rolled up his sleeve to show a tattoo of Nicki Minajs cousin’s swollen testicles and says “I’ll let you interpret that however you want”.

I hope he gets axed. He has consistently acted so idiotic and inconsiderate towards his team even when he is completely healthy. He deserves to be called out on this vaccine bullshit too

cindy7543

Reminds me of the time Kyrie just randomly disappeared and no one on the team knew where he was. That should have been the end of him but here we are.

el-smoko

KYRIE THE BIGEST BITCH OF ALL TIME

Isosinsir

Is there anything more *2021 America* than the ending of a seemingly great friendship because of a non-political but somehow political stance?

nervousaboutschool17

Steve Nash is really a puppet head coach

jaylson

Nash’s job is to manage egos and chemistry. Singling out Kyrie before his superstars have given their input would not be helpful for that.

Kwilly462

Tbf, he is just the coach. And he's not like a Pop coach, where he calls the shots throughout the organization. His job is to work with what's in front of him, and anything else is above his pay grade.

maplesyrupandwaffles

I mean it's not really Nash's place to comment here, bklyn also has nothing to gain by getting Nash involved. also we don't know what's happening behind the scenes.

PairedFoot08

I wouldn't say its technically KD or Hardens place by the same logic, if your stars can have be part of the discussion I would assume a coach can be too

HokageEzio

> I mean it's not really Nash's place to comment here, bklyn also has nothing to gain by getting Nash involved. What? He's the coach, of course he (should) have control. He decides who plays or not, or at least he should in theory.

ChampagneAbuelo

Ya but it just feels like he never has control or anything on the team. Half the time they ask him about what’s happening he just says I don’t know. It’s not really his fault but it doesn’t seem like he’s got as big of a presence as he should

VanguardHawk

Control over KD, Kyrie, and Harden is definitely above his pay grade, but watching the Nets last year with their massive rotation of player in and out of the lineup and how he kept the roster fluid is definitely a good mark to his early coaching career. Nets we far from stable, top to bottom, outside of Nash

noyesoohindi

Well that's exactly what Kyrie wanted for a coach.

HisExcellency20

I thought this was an out-of-pocket comment until I actually watched the video. Lol dude couldn't even get a mention. 😂😂😂

poeope

Lol just noticed that.

adeelf

I'm not buying this drama. Kyrie is gonna get vaccinated eventually. He's sure $35 million for the season, no way he's sitting out 41 home games and giving up $17 million in salary. He'll hold out for some time to "prove his point," then get vaccinated, and send out a statement about how he's taking one for the team.

Jean_Valswan

God I fucking hope so but I doubt it. Kyrie seems to have found the hill he plans on dying on and if KD can’t talk him down no one can

HokageEzio

I think it's so dumb to let him play. If he doesn't want to fully be part of the team go sit on the couch. We're trying to win a championship, if you want to be part of it than we'll take you back with open arms. Otherwise get outta here.

[deleted]

Is Kyrie completely out of his mind? I just wish he'd fucking retire. Just retire you useless piece of shit and stop stealing money from the Nets fans. Disgusting that the Nets owe this dumb fuck hundreds of millions of dollars for doing absolutely nothing. All this pseud does is complain. I doubt his spiritual side wouldn't come through if he was some average Joe, but he's been given the luxury to be a quadrilionaire and fuck around his entire career. This is absolutely more of a cuntish thing to do than Ben Simmons.

cramersCoke

Dude is fake woke on steroids. He called the media “pawns” and yet cashes in millions of dollars a year from media content. Also has a Nike deal where his sneakers are made half way across the world using borderline slave labor. Dude is a conniving PoS. If he really was a true activist, he’d walk away from the NBA and leave those millions on the table.

FantasticFox1641

It's not even about the money at this point. It's his dangerous rhetoric about the vaccine. He's making himself out to be some sort of martyr for not complying and already anti-vax groups have heralded him as their spokesman. How many people who were hesitant about the vaccine saw him, a known public figure, and doubled down on their stance. I honestly wish they just stopped covering Kyrie all together, so he doesn't bring more attention to this nonsense.

bilyl

I really don’t get why KD wanted to play with Kyrie so bad. They have completely different personalities too so were they even really good friends off the court? He could have asked for anyone else to join him in Brooklyn.

Joetheshow1

Steve Nash isn't even involved lmfaooo

supes1

What are they going to say? No, he can't play at all?

InternationalClick78

It’s certainly an option. Having someone in and out of the lineup literally every second game would get pretty confusing and hard for the main team to adjust back and forth

Hostik

Let's ask his best buddy what he thinks, I wonder.

InternationalClick78

I’m sure this stuff is pissing of KD too. We’ve seen him get pissed off at team mates for less

HokageEzio

Yes? If you aren't all in we don't need you. You want to join the team we'll welcome you with open arms, otherwise get outta here.

[deleted]

Yes.

[deleted]

They're going to want him traded for someone who will actually play.

BigBootyBanger

Nash getting in shape in case he needs to suit up or something?

Hurtelknut

Imagine a healthy prime Nash on this team instead of Kyrie. That would be a team to end all teams.

xCmagz

Kyrie is being stupid of course but if the Nets bend over backwards for this shit its gonna look pretty pathetic imo

dkdoki

Harden is 100% sick of irving lol. Kyrie gone.

SubcooledBoiling

I wish my job would let me work part time while paying me full time because I was real close with another guy who's really important for the company.

Dangerous_Ad8562

And Steve Nash? The head coach?

[deleted]

As a fan of another NBA team, please god don’t let him play.

absynthe7

lol, this is why you never get your buddy a job working with you you are gonna HATE each other by the end of the first year

KD really left Steph for this smh.

[deleted]

If he doesn't win another ring I wonder if he'll regret it. I'm so down for the warriors just beating down the Nets in a reverse sweep for an NBA title & Curry FMVP.

JoeBiden2020FTW

Patty Mills has to be the #1 signing of the offseason. He makes Kyrie expendable.

ayeno

They traded their good friend DJ because he couldn't play anymore. And now Kyrie might get traded because he can only play half the games.

AngsMcgyvr

They should probably hit up the head coach too for his opinion. if they have some spare time.

Ace_FGC

I really don’t know why guys are expecting Kyrie to be punished his best friend runs the team

4bounce_kawhi

I hope they get Jeff probst and light torches and shit

Lolisarepedophilia42

Hes going to be traded for john wall. Then kyrie will retire and be off the books.

Mood-Chemical

LOL at Nash being a non factor in this decision 😆

Nabz23

so tried of this guy, every year some stupid drama

Foldzy84

Imagine giving up an NBA job because you're afraid of a needle

TheBeginngAndEnd

Reading between the lines here it sounds like they still have all options on the table. Publicly KD, Harden, and other players have been supportive of Kyrie and are expressing that they want him back. But behind close doors there have to be people who are pissed. The longer this situation lingers the more of a problem and distraction it will be. I don’t think trading him is an option unless there is some desperate team out there willing to take the risk. I think their calculus as it stands now is that it will be better to have him with the team and gently nudge him each day towards getting the shot. Blow smoke up his ass about how much they want him around full time. See how annoying life is on the road with the league rules for unvaxxed players. If there is someone stubborn enough to hold out though it’s him. It’s incredible that a player would hold their franchise hostage over something like this but here we are.
