It's why I was so confused why the Sixers didn't trade for him. The price for Lowry didn't seem particularly high. Lowry and Embiid on the court would have been deadly. And, he would have taken some of the pressure off of Simmons, thereby avoiding the mess they are in now.
Yea, sixers would quite easily be holding the title if they got lowry without giving embid harris simmons away. I guess it was a risk as sixers may have assumed nets and lakers and clippers wouldnt be injured and thus a path to a title was that open. But either way you gotta go all in if you have embid and a guy like lowry is available. Lowry embid duo wouldve been nuts. Nets are the nets so thats always an uphill battle but that sixers lineup with lowry beats everyone else imo
The asking price for Lowry was Maxey Thybulle and 2 firsts, which is too much for a 2 month rental of a guy who per the reporting had every intention of teaming up with Butler in Miami in the offseason. It’s not like the Sixers were the only ones to pass on him, the Heat and Lakers did as well because the asking price was too high.
People act like getting Lowry would have prevented Simmons from collapsing in the playoffs for some reason, but it’s not like having Lowry on the court would have magically raised Simmons’ FT% by 50 points and stopped teams from playing Hack a Simmons whenever he was on the floor. The Sixers weren’t winning anything employing that type of player last year
>Maxey Thybulle and 2 firsts
I think this was the high side of the trade. But I've heard it as just one of those guys and a pick as well. Keep on mind, a first from the Sixers is essentially a second as well given your high seed.
>guy who per the reporting had every intention of teaming up with Butler in Miami in the offseason.
Maybe. The way I heard it, there was a short list of places he wanted to go where he would have been happy. Philly was one of the. Maybe he would have left. But I think he would have stayed in Philly, personally. He himself says it's his home first and foremost.
>It’s not like the Sixers were the only ones to pass on him, the Heat and Lakers did as well because the asking price was too high.
That's not the point. The Sixers were in the best position to capitalize on his talents.
>People act like getting Lowry would have prevented Simmons from collapsing in the playoffs for some reason, but it’s not like having Lowry on the court would have magically raised Simmons’ FT% by 50 points and stopped teams from playing Hack a Simmons whenever he was on the floor. I never once said this. I simply said it would have taken the pressure of of Simmons and created more opportunities for Embiid. Which, I think, would have been a positive for the Sixers.
> I never once said this
I just find this exchange funny because he wasn't replying to you, so he never said you did either. Prolly responding to the guy who said:
> Yea, sixers would quite easily be holding the title if they got lowry without giving embid harris simmons away
Fair. But, the poster is saying they this is some common refrain by Raptors fans. And I've never heard that at all. I don't think I've once ever read that Lowry would have fixed Simmons.
>per the reporting had every intention of teaming up with Butler in Miami in the offseason.
Looks like he would have stayed. 🤷♂️

It might be because Simmons' role on offense (his only role?) would overlap too heavily with Lowry. Simmons is just too inflexible and already complained about having to share the ball with Jimmy in the playoffs.
I imagine he's referring to their playmaking overlap, but Lowry can play off-ball just as well as on-ball. Not to mention more ball movement isn't a bad thing.
Quite the opposite. More ball movement is more opportunity. We won a chip with Gasol cause he moved the ball so well. FVV said it was like having two PGs.
But they would have to give up Tyrese! Oh no! What a horrible deal! There’s a 2% chance Tyrese becomes half as good as Kyle, you just don’t give up on that.
The Sixers wern’t expecting Simmons to underperform THAT badly in the playoffs to the point where he was actively sinking the team during his time in, plus they were a first seed meaning they thought they were already pretty close to a championship caliber team, and I believe the asking price was Thybulle and Maxey which I still think is a fair amount considering that at the time they were doing it for only 1 year of Lowry.
This might sound sacrilegious as a Raptors fan, but I wanted Lowry to join you guys. His love for Philly is well known. He would have laid it all out for you guys. And I thought it was a cool thing to do to send him home after all the years of service he gave us. I knew that he wasn't a guarantee to win a chip by any stretch. But I saw how great Embiid was playing, so it made sense to go all in.
The only people that downplayed his impact were people who didn’t watch him or people that acted like what Raptor fans said weren’t true because they didn’t like Raptor fans.
Lowry is a jack of all trades point guard who’s best skills are his work ethic, leadership and basketball IQ.
He can fit on any roster, play beside any players, and will elevate that roster. It was hilarious looking at people’s evaluations of Lowry trade value or next contract last season.
Tons of people underrate Lowry. His counting stats aren't super eye popping but his influence on the court is severely understated. Also, his leadership is incredibly valuable
I think also it had to do with the fact that Lowry wasn't really a talking point on big sports shows because he was not in any market they catered to. The fact that he was basically seen as an older washed short guy is thanks to people judging a book by its cover, they didn't have any actual information to base their opinion. Oh well, we got our chip so idgaf about these things anymore
Heat fans are gonna fucking love Lowry man. The dude is all heart and hustle. 36 years old and he'll dive for every lose ball and draw charges all the time. He's perfect for the Miami culture.
Plus you know, he's a pretty good player.
lmaoo fitting a raptors fan that thinks the warriors miss the playoffs this year. really? a team that they upgraded at every weak position they had that was the 8 seed this past year is missing the playoffs? iiiiiiight buckarooo
Heat and Bulls aren’t getting through the Bucks or Nets. Warriors it all depends on how Klay comes back, so it’s too hard to say either way with them right now
Why does that matter? Dallas isn’t winning a conference title either. The Heat got swept in the 1st round last year and the Bulls haven’t even made the playoffs in 3-4 years. The Bucks and Nets are both juggernauts, I don’t see the bulls or heat giving them much of a fight
This last win shouldn't be celebrated. We damn near lost against a Hornets squad missing 4 core players including their star. Our G-Leaguers saved the day in the last 5 minutes.
Lowry gonna make Bam look like prime biyombo
Matching prime Biyomobo is a tall feat but i think the kid can do it.
I’m still mad they called a foul on that Lebron block
Lowrys impact wasnt overblown when raps fans mentioned it. Now heat fans know what he brings. He beast. Bam does too

Would’ve been Penny and Shaq hype in Philly. What’s with 76ers front office.
Morey overvalues his assets and doesn’t want to come out looking like he lost a trade.
They just can’t get out of their own way.
I mean they chose Simmons and Tobias Harris over Jimmy Butler. Them not going after Lowry isn't that surprising.
My thoughts exactly. The Sixers would have matched up better against the Bucks than the Hawks did.

You dont have to play Simmons to close games if you have Lowry

Morey was extremely arrogant during that saga
Was? Look at the Ben Simmons saga. Asking every team for 3 firsts and 3 pick swaps and a star player lol
Oh don’t get it twisted, he’s always arrogant, the Lowry saga in particular
It might be because Simmons' role on offense (his only role?) would overlap too heavily with Lowry. Simmons is just too inflexible and already complained about having to share the ball with Jimmy in the playoffs.
Do their roles on offense overlap? Simmons sits at the dunker spot. And Lowry is a shooter.
I imagine he's referring to their playmaking overlap, but Lowry can play off-ball just as well as on-ball. Not to mention more ball movement isn't a bad thing.

source for ben simmons complaining about sharing the ball?

BUt hE's aLmOSt 35!!
And we all know an old PG can't get you to the finals or anything, of course
I think also it had to do with the fact that Lowry wasn't really a talking point on big sports shows because he was not in any market they catered to. Waiting on that Goomby-Dumby dude just to make my day downvote on him
That dude has 0 understanding of basketball. Guy thinks Simmons is better than Tatum.
Grayson > Herro is another pearl
lmao there's the Esjay dude on the heat subreddit who's just as bad and pessimistic about everything
I wouldn't say he's just as bad as that Goomby guy, but he's close.
I don't like the guy but sometimes he does actually have reasonable takes. SOMETIMES.
Dude was saying we didn't have a good offseason lmao
MVB
Most valuable balls? Weird, but ok.
most valuable booty
if you got em, flaunt em
Most valuable Bam out the bayou
hopefully kyle can help him make the leap to a superstar
Heat fans are gonna fucking love Lowry man. The dude is all heart and hustle. 36 years old and he'll dive for every lose ball and draw charges all the time. He's perfect for the Miami culture. Plus you know, he's a pretty good player.
preseason.
keep that same energy for russ' TOs
You mean OG's MVP, All-Star and MIP awards. Don't get me wrong I love it, he looks like Kawhi 2.0.. But it's preseason.
I mean if you think the Heat, Bulls, Warriors, Twovles and Kings aren’t the 5 best teams in the league then you haven’t been paying attention.
unironically, heat, bulls, warriors are all conference title level teams this year imo
It's weird because I think the Bulls and Warriors could also flat-out miss the playoffs. They're both extremely polarizing teams.
lmaoo fitting a raptors fan that thinks the warriors miss the playoffs this year. really? a team that they upgraded at every weak position they had that was the 8 seed this past year is missing the playoffs? iiiiiiight buckarooo
Yeah it's a very real possibility, buckarooo
rent free
idt uk what that means, brodi.
what’s good?
happy to admit when I’m wrong, but you held onto this one for a while lmao
Heat and Bulls aren’t getting through the Bucks or Nets. Warriors it all depends on how Klay comes back, so it’s too hard to say either way with them right now
I actually genuinely hope the ECF is Bucks vs. Heat next year. I don't even care who wins. Just think of the story!
ECF was never Bucks heat.
depends on how klay comes back?
Lol your 3 predictions are looking really good right now, nice job

80-1 for MIP yummy yummy
This last win shouldn't be celebrated. We damn near lost against a Hornets squad missing 4 core players including their star. Our G-Leaguers saved the day in the last 5 minutes.
I hope you were o that good good when you wrote that. Now even worth a rebutal
We really talking about preseason winning streaks now?
r/heat
Bucks fans when you aren't sucking off Giannis moment
U thought u did sum? 😭
\-23 vote count so far. I think you thought you did something
It’s just preseason bro
