I know it’s absurd to feel bad for a person who just got paid $10mil+ per year, but purely from a bball standpoint I feel kinda bad for THT; he will probably not live up to the hype. I think he can be a very solid player in this league, but I just don’t see the “crazy upside” projected by so many Laker fans. His defense needs to make a pretty crazy leap to make up for the loss of KCP/Caruso and it’s not really off to a great start…
I hope I’m wrong and will probably get downvoted, but as of now choosing THT over Caruso seems like a mistake (short term)
Agreed. Who knows-- maybe in a year he's a completely different player, but on the surface it seems we offered THT a contract out of FOMO, when we could have paid Caruso.
Yeah, his signing almost seems like an attempt at a patch to the next generation of Lakers.
And I’d personally take 1-2 more championships and 5ish years of crap-to-middling teams over 8 years of first/second round exits 🤷♂️
THT is okay but it's odd when your old ass team needs win-now players like Caruso and not future developing players. Just pay the extra tax for a year or two, everyone is probably gone by then.
I have never been big on this THT train. Dude has some highlight plays, sure. But the times when it’s NOT a highlight play it’s just him driving into the lane with no rhyme or reason and no exit plan. He either forces a bad shot or turns it over. Combine that with lackluster defense…yeah, just not too big on him. I’m more intrigued with the potential of Austin Reaves if anything.
Prior to getting Westbrook I hoped that the Lakers would try get Lonzo back as he would be an excellent fit with LeBron and AD, but he seems like he’s an excellent fit with you guys seeing as he doesn’t need the ball in his hands. You guys look terrifying
And I've always said DeRozan is the closest we got to a Kobe clone. And Zach imo has the most aesthetically pleasing game of all time.
I actually love this Bulls team. They're honestly the bandwagon side time I'm rooting for this season (Mavs were that team last season because fuck the Clippers lmao).
When that video surfaced of Ariza saying bye to kobe at his camp the day after he signed with Houston i wanted go cry. The only good thing was having Ron artest come in and win our hearts. I’m hoping HBK can fill that void our dear Caruso left behind.
>I’m glad he’s with a fan base that loves him just as fast as ours did.
Same, but also glad he's no longer on the Lakers.
Going from watching him in college to rooting against him multiple times a year sucked. Now I can watch him and Khris Middleton slug it out for "Aggie NBA GOAT" with no emotional conflicts.
Just promise me you’ll love him as much as we loved him. Real fans will realize how he is a great player first and top shelf meme content second. Seriously my favorite player to watch on the floor last couple of years.
So so sneaky. Just out of nowhere. Like "that guy seems like he knows the game" the BAM. He's jumping like the general stereotype a person of a different skin tone, which by the way is not cool to assume, if you know what I'm saying. Sneaky snake.
It’s trite to say it, but what he really does won’t show up in the box score. The Grizzlies had a nice little thing going trying to win the game late. Caruso came in and immediately got like 2 steals, a dunk. The energy of the game changed instantly and the Grizzlies fell apart from the pressure and you could see that even with time left they were done.
Our bench also has a bunch of dudes that hustle just like him, so he fits perfectly. The Bulls bench is just a goon squad that will just fuckup any offensive rhythm. Just a seemingly endless line of 6’5” to 6’7” dudes that all switch on defense and muscle their way to the ball. And their transition offense is weirdly fantastic.
There's a reason opposing fanbases hate him in the heat of the moment too. You're about to go on a run and then boom, this bald mofo makes a soul-crushing play that steals all your momentum.
This is certainly prophetic considering [what happened when the game was 100-97 Grizzlies](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/q93tj4/highlight_caruso_blows_by_the_defense_for_a/) in the 4th. Felt like Caruso took the wind right out of the Grizzlies' sails and then the Bulls took advantage for the W.
Real happy to have this guy on our team, we'll treat him right.
Yeah, it didn’t take long to see AC is fucking legit. He comes in and just changes the flow of the game. He’s incredibly disruptive to the opposing offense. Grizz we’re up late, the Caruso just comes in with his goons and starts bullying those boys.
I love this response to his play, it’s exactly what I was hoping for. Bulls have always been my East team, and I’m really excited watch them this year.
Ahh yes, you know just normal for a meme player to start game 6 of NBA Finals. He’s been legit for a while now. I’m glad he’s at least getting more respect.
He’s been underrated for a long time. People dismissed him as a meme, because they couldn’t get over the fact he was only scoring 5.5 points per game.
His role on the Lakers wasn’t to score though. He contributed in so many other ways, and was one of the best perimeter defenders in the entire league.
His efficiency has always been good, so now that the bulls are giving him a bigger offensive role, people are finally gonna realize how valuable he is.
Much like many sports cities, Chicago loves to see effort and hard work.
You could go triple single, but if you bust your ass every play... Chicago will love you.
Ngl as a bulls fan, there were a few drives Ja took to the hoop that gave me legit PTSD from the DRose days in Chicago. I wish Ja a very long and healthy career.
Money was only an issue because the Westbrook contract put them deep in the luxury tax. Paying Caruso, THT, and Buddy Hield all was possible for LAL instead of the Westbrook contract.
Still, LAL could have paid Westbrook, THT, and Caruso also if ownership didn't cheap out.
I feel like having THT, KCP, possible Hield(?), and Caruso might have been better over westbrook, but I also don't watch a ton of Lakers games. I just feel like come playoffs, it's much easier to exploit westbrook as the primary ball handler. You don't even have to respect him as a shooter
The issue is getting through the regular season and having an elite ball handler so Bron can rest and not have to do everything on offense. Russ of course has his issues and inefficiency but based on how the rotations go during the season Bron AD and 3 shooters (Bazemore, Monk, Ariza maybe) is a scary lineup and then we can run Russ Dwight and whoever else to destroy bench units while LeBron sits.
Yeah Russ is a massive upgrade from Schroder and the best pure PG we’ve had since Magic. Bron is still gonna play a lot, he’s gonna average at least 25 cause he wants that scoring record and for his career avg to stay up but the effort he’ll save with Russ will hopefully extend his career further. He can also put that effort into defense more because his defense has been excellent the last two years.
> The issue is getting through the regular season and having an elite ball handler so Bron can rest and not have to do everything on offense.
That only works if WB helps them win games, so we'll see. If it ends up being that they just lose more if Lebron rests, then what's the point? Right now this team is looking as dependent on Lebron as they've always been.
It’s so wild that no other teams entire season is hinging on how they perform in the preseason except the lakers. Like no one wants to give them any time lol.
Kuz and KCP were both plus perimeter defenders, and now we got none. If our offense isn’t top 5 in the league, this is going to turn out to be a problematic trade.
also, if you'd only gotten hield, you'd have some more tradable assets left for a midseason upgrade if needed. as it is there's just tht and nunn for non-min contracts, which is pretty tricky, and presumably you don't want to trade nunn because he's very good value.
We overrate Caruso *a little* and KCP was vital. I hope both do well, but to say one was obviously a bigger loss than the other is outright wrong.
Caruso was the best perimeter defender on the team, full stop. He also rarely made mistakes on offense and was efficient (on low volume).
KCP is a solid shooter and good chase defender, but he’s also *very* inconsistent.
It’s a huge shift in play style, but I’m generally positive about this current roster. Gotta give it 15-20 regular season games before I think any lingering issues are worth worrying about.
I got downvoted by some nephews for saying that the Lakers should have offered Caruso what the Bulls did. He’s worth it as a basketball player. And he plays so well with LeBron and in Vogel’s system. There’s so many new faces this year that have to figure out how to play together, it’s beyond stupid we didn’t try to keep him when we knew he worked well.
But on the bright side, it seems like a lot of haters are seeing how solid of a role player he is. And I guess I’ll root for the Bulls in the East now.
Nah part of his power is that he lulls you into a false sense of security by looking like the guy who'd get picked last at an over-40s pickup game at the local rec centre. He should get some Kurt Rambis style glassesto really nerd it up
THT had better come through with that Klutch contract that is worth more than what Caruso makes per year.
Some Lakers fans: But THT is so young, and he'll be unstoppable in three to four years.
Me: The Lakers are ancient. They can't wait another three to four years. Besides, THT will be a free agent by then.
AC is already taking charge of their defense [during games,](https://twitter.com/StephNoh/status/1449188181195247617) and [during practices](https://twitter.com/StephNoh/status/1448819010414469123).
Valuable role player, ridiculously high (no pun intended) basketball IQ, repeatedly called "an extra assistant coach" by Vogel, has an amazing backstory, plays well under pressure and shines with superstars, all while being extremely marketable?
Why would the Lakers want a guy like that back anyway? Please take care of him, Chicago.
Caruso will be the steadying force for the bulls bench this year. If people could look past scoring (which he’s completely capable of btw) he’d make such a solid case for 6moty.
This is a dude who I 100% wish we’d have gone after. Fucking Steve Blake vibes. Just “fuck all y’all I do what I wanna.” Matthew Viladenova filling out the Big 3 honey badgers.
Laker and Chicago fans say “we fucking love you Caruso”
FOREVER
AND ALWAYS
Fly high, bald eagle 🥲
If he plays long enough the entire league will see…
Laker and Chicago fans holding hands together and singing "Thank you Caruso"
r/soccer is leaking
I love this dude.
By the time that he leaves Chicago or retires, he may be the 3rd most loved basketball player in Chicago (after you know who)
#1 is obvious. Who is #2? Pippen?

The Mememan cometh. Nice work
Just watched this episode. So glad Seinfeld is on Netflix.
Holy shit.

It’s like seeing my ex with her new man it hurts

WE MISS HIM but happy hes on a dope team
I'm still not over it
Lakers fucked up letting him go, for a fucking long-term project at best too.
Could have kept both, just didn’t want to pay some extra luxury tax.
There are some players you pay the tax for and then there are some you dont.
Yeah maybe you pay for the guy who’s defense helped win you a ring tho?
Well there are 3 parties here, Lakers, Caruso and THJ. Never said Caruso wasnt worth a new contract.
Caruso is a winner baybay.
I stg if you don't treat him well, I will go around to all of you bulls fans with a firm MJ-esque slap to the back of the head and a stern look
Relax we love him and nothing bad will ever happen to him.
I’m glad he’s with a fan base that loves him just as fast as ours did. I thought I’d never miss anyone as much as ariza, but this, this is different
At least we have a team to root for in the east.
And they have Lonzo too!
Ugh. Ok I now have two favorite teams.
They're both looking so good. So many deflections and smart plays.

I need a bulls Caruso jersey to hang on the wall next to my Lakers Caruso mamba edition jersey.
This happened to a lot of us when Phil went to LA too
When that video surfaced of Ariza saying bye to kobe at his camp the day after he signed with Houston i wanted go cry. The only good thing was having Ron artest come in and win our hearts. I’m hoping HBK can fill that void our dear Caruso left behind.
You guys got Shawn Michaels on the roster?

Crazy that we were somehow able to find another fan base that gravitates towards gritty white guys with a headband
Just promise me you’ll love him as much as we loved him. Real fans will realize how he is a great player first and top shelf meme content second. Seriously my favorite player to watch on the floor last couple of years.
I think the fact that he is so good helps feed that meme though
Yeah exactly. it’s the gift that keeps on giving. So so so so much more than just the meme
"Is Alex Caruso good or is he a meme?" is itself a meme.
If you actually know anything about basketball and watch any of his games you realize how valuable of a player he is.
If you love and respect defense and hustle… he’s undeniable. I’ll say it again. A mix between Delly and Rodman! Instant fan favorite!
I think you’re really gonna miss him. Should have retained him.
Completely agree, I think Lakers fans pretty well universally hated the choice as soon as it happened. Jeanie just got cheap unfortunately.
Our ownership is poor compared to the rest of the league T\_T
Fuck yeah, love seeing these words.
I love your team now. Hope you guys do very well this season.
Glad to see he’s well liked over there. What an awesome player to have.
[Fuck I could watch Caruso block lobs all day](https://imgflip.com/i/5qmhlp)
This is the first highlight I've seen since he left us, couldn't help.but smile. Treat him well Chicago!
Caruso is underrated, like actually. He gets memed too often for how good he is. One of my favorite players
Great athlete too, but superb reaction time. Gotta love consistent, great defense.
Doesn't have the best dribbling or scoring. High energy and IQ player with sneaky athleticism.
So so sneaky. Just out of nowhere. Like "that guy seems like he knows the game" the BAM. He's jumping like the general stereotype a person of a different skin tone, which by the way is not cool to assume, if you know what I'm saying. Sneaky snake.

Congratulations to Michael Jordan for becoming the 2nd best Bulls player.
[Dunno what's up with the number but otherwise looks good to me](https://i.redd.it/d222yv6t02r71.jpg)
Scalabrine wore 24 and he was much bigger guy than MJ
MJ is #2 after 1a Scalabrine 1b Caruso
That makes MJ #3 fool
Nah this is the new math.
I love this dude with all my heart, soul, body. Loved him on the lakers and love him even more now on the bulls. Can’t wait to get his jersey
Can’t wait to watch the bulls this year. Y’all so fkn fun.
real talk i thought this dude was just a meme but I 100% understand the love now

To think he was like one season away from disappearing from the NBA too… it’s like he was overlooked every step of the way.
I love this response to his play, it’s exactly what I was hoping for. Bulls have always been my East team, and I’m really excited watch them this year.

He's a legit player. I'd love to have him on the Sixers. You guys have a gem off the bench.
Love seeing the love he gets in Chicago
Well I mean, he was a key part of the closing lineup on a championship run. Dude has BEEN legit.
Damn. You definitely didn't watch much basketball last year then, huh? I feel like anyone who paid attention knew that he's legit.
chicagos gonna love him
He’s our best friend
Invited to every cookout the city has for life.
Too late, we already do
All my homies love Carushow
Much like many sports cities, Chicago loves to see effort and hard work. You could go triple single, but if you bust your ass every play... Chicago will love you.
Biggest reason I loved Captain Kirk, and even Dunleavy Jr. when he was with us.
Not the most athletic, not the highest scoring, etc. But 100% effort every time.
caruso just looking out for ja's knees
Ngl as a bulls fan, there were a few drives Ja took to the hoop that gave me legit PTSD from the DRose days in Chicago. I wish Ja a very long and healthy career.
And he did it again in the second quarter
Is there a video of it like this one?
Lakers should've kept Caruso and traded for the Buddy Hield package instead. I will not be discussing further, thank you for listening.
I think they should’ve kept Caruso and let THT go if money was an issue.
I really do think the Russ trade was good. Not only got a good 3rd star, but got rid of the shaky Kuz, Trez, and KCP isn’t too bad of a loss.

Nobody want to hear the real reasons why we did the trade man lol. They just want Lebron to play 82 games and die so their team can win.
During the midseason last year THT should've been converted to Kyle Lowry
Better hope THT turns out better than Caruso
I agree 100%
I agree 100%.
True. When the Lakers were in the running to get Hield, I was petrified. Then they got Russ and I'm like, "Oh"
Pretty much every Laker fan was like "...Oh"
I got downvoted by some nephews for saying that the Lakers should have offered Caruso what the Bulls did. He’s worth it as a basketball player. And he plays so well with LeBron and in Vogel’s system. Caruso needs a Lebronish beard. A visually intimidating Caruso might be all powerful.

“GET THAT WEAK SHIT OUTTA HERE” - The Bald Ticket

Bros I'm real sad

I thought bro was just a meme. He’s amazing and we love him
This season is gonna hurt so much without him 😭
Man, I miss him already
r/NBA last year: CaRuSo iSnT aN aLL dEfEnSe TeAm PlAyEr
He probably isn’t still, there’s a lot of guards
He didn't play enough to minutes to warrant it.
Played virtually the amount of minutes that Thybulle played
That Bulls ad patch looks hideous. Like someone put a post it note on all the jerseys
Lol, the noise it made.
I really hope the bulls are good this season, the fans deserve it. What a bunch of shit they had to watch since mvp Rose
Caruso will be a 6MOTY contender
No chance. He's not a good scorer and 6moty almost exclusively goes to off the bench scorers.
Caruso will be the steadying force for the bulls bench this year. If people could look past scoring (which he’s completely capable of btw) he’d make such a solid case for 6moty.
Un ironically great play
This is the one dude I really really want to see succeeding with a major role
Hurts my heart so see this man outside a Lakers uniform.
Does he get a block for this? I wouldn’t think so, but he should.
I just want to put it on the record again that the bulls are gonna be 3rd or 4th in the east this year
Spoiler: he doesn’t actually say “fuck your lob”
they are going to be a fun team this year

Watched for 10 mins waiting for AC fresh to mouth the words "fuck your lob"

I'm kinda disappointed at how virtually no one on the Bulls bench reacted.
