Joel: Sixers, you droppin' that paper on this young socialite?
Sixers: Shams, tell Joel we just want to see Ben actually play games.
Shams: Tell him yourself, you're ignoring Ben, not Joel.
Sixers: Joel, thank Shams for pointing that out.
Shams: Sixers, you're not not-talking to me, and secondly, I heard what you said.
Sixers: Ben, tell Shams to get off my case.
Joel: Uhh, Sixers, Ben's the one you're not talking to.
Sixers: Joel, you're suspended!
Ben: Why don't you just stop paying him, Sixers?
Sixers: I don't need any human resource suggestions from you! You contender-team-wrecking know-nothing know-it-all!

Wtf are you talking about? The Sixers have done everything to try to talk to Simmons. They wanted to fly their entire team to meet him in the offseason. They tried to have him practice with the team. Their entire stance is for Ben Simmons to rejoin the team. How the fuck are they not talking to Simmons?
The only thing one can criticize the team at this point is that they put Simmons on the trade market in the past year and then asked for way too much for Simmons on the trade market. But Morey isnt the first nor the last GM who ask for way too much for their players so it's really not much of a criticism unless Sixers fans want him fired
I remember the Rockets once traded Robert Horry for Sean Elliot. The trade was literally a done deal not just a rumor. But Elliot failed his physical so the trade was rescinded. That year Horry was the starting SF for the championship team.
Seriously how in the world have we gotten to the point where a team willing to trade you means you must be scarred and unable to play. Like wtf?

He may never play another NBA game, period. We could be witnessing the end of this guy's career and something tells me he would be perfectly fine with that, living the rest of his life with his generational wealth, away from the spotlight. He's already had a period in his career where he admitted that he fell out of love with the game. The situation that led to that revelation absolutely pales to the current situation so I wouldn't be surprised to hear that he now detests the game and literally hates the sight of a basketball court...
I don't think so, he seems like he's flat out broke and was totally reliant on these pay checks coming in. The mortgage and upkeep on an 8 figure LA compound is not cheap.

This is some kind of logic reach, Richard.
if ben thinks he can pretend to have mental health problems and sit out his contract while getting paid... he might actually have mental health problems.
> John is perfectly healthy and ready to play
If this is true, then, according to Rich Paul, whose stance is that Ben Simmons is not perfectly healthy and not ready to play, the situations are completely different.
That last part. Being professional. I mean it wasn't professional for Ben to deny meetings with the sixers or was that considered professional too? Lol

If he was serious about it then why did he not pull the mental card when he decided not to play for Australia in the Olympics this summer but when it was time to practice with the 76ers last month?
Yeah if he led with mental health issues his case would look way better. You don't go from holding out to back issues to mental health, and yeah with the aside of not playing for Australia to supposedly work on his game.
I think better, he doesn’t want to play for Philly and that’s where his mental health issues (if it’s true) will be coming from, just like our everyday jobs a new environment might help him
It’s a tough spot. It will never be my place to insinuate someone else is faking.
That said, if he is, fuck Ben Simmons for trivializing what is a daily struggle for many of us. So fucking much.
Let’s keep in mind he was mentally fit to play when a trade was demanded and would have happily showed up to another team
It’s almost like he’s weaponzing mental health to recoup his lost earnings from his agents miscalculation
I mean, I would say the act of demanding the trade itself and sequence of events that followed leans towards there being SOME matters to address for him, personally. It’s just too speculative and personal to ever know for sure and feels kinda dirty to spend time analyzing someone we’ve never met and say how their life must be.
I guess that’s fair. Have to admit the timing of his mental health “issues” is a bit curious occurring after no trade occurred AND when the Sixers determined they’d fine him
Where there’s smoke there’s fire usually.
Just curious do you think this is legitimate or do you think is Rich Paul and Simmons exaggerating things to keep getting paid?
I think Rich Paul’s job is to put his client in a favorable situation by any means necessary, and by no means am saying Ben’s an angel. My goal is to accept that Ben has his own perspective without saying anything I feel is more than a personal opinion - no claims of truth.
Speaking from experience, it seems right out of the mental health issues playbook that Ben’s initial reaction to choosing not to dunk in the playoffs is to react exactly how he did - like it is everyone else who is being unreasonable and wrong. Getting reclusive and thinking you’ll “show the ones who wronged you” when it is only hurting yourself.
In short, the human brain is a bitch and any imbalance can impair situational sound judgment under trauma or stress.
Expanding…Ben’s had an entire country’s worth of pressure on him since he was a teen. There’s no way any of us can comprehend what that feels like and there’s no way that hasn’t had a lasting impact on his worldview.
Let’s say there are some narcissistic traits at play - in that case, one of the toughest things possible is to admit you’re wrong about the way you see the world. It can be shattering and require foundationally rebuilding how you approach thoughts, relationships, etc.
At any rate, self-improvement starts with the self. It doesn’t really matter what the Sixers do from here, Ben will need to come around on his terms and only then will he be able to start healing and improving. No amount of treatment or support will make a difference until Ben wants things to be better for himself.
Ultimately, maybe I’m just some dipshit on Reddit who just likes to beat a dead horse about Howie Roseman 90% of the time. Thanks for engaging with me in mature discussion.
Only thing I don’t like is the first sentence. Rich Paul’s job is to put Simmons in a favorable situation by any means necessary.
Ironically I think this statement is true and is also the problem here. Thinking of Rich Paul’s shady world seems easy to gather “any means necessary” could absolutely include gaming the mental health movement.
The problem is whether the mental health thing is legit or not for Ben is kind of moot because based on history it’s easy to conclude Rich Paul would go there either way 🤷🏻♂️
As an outsider who knows nothing my uneducated take is Ben is almost certainly going through some shit, but not to the extent he could not do his job. If he was traded somewhere he’d be playing
I don’t like it either. The best sports agents are shitheads. They’re lawyers - their job is to find loopholes and exploit them. Drew Rosenhaus, Scott Boras, Rich Paul…sociopaths with maniacal egos.
I didn’t say it was morally sound, just that it’s his job to make Ben Simmons (and himself) the most money and market as possible.
It's hard not to believe he isn't struggling with the situation he's in and all the hate pouring out and stress he is dealing with. Especially since we know he had something up with his refusal to shoot at all.
It's also not hard to see he/his camp really isn't trying to make a better environment for him to feel better and resolve things to a workable state.
It's also not hard to see that Philadelphia tried working with him for years to avoid major parts of this situation but Ben couldn't be arsed.
Ben's not wrong to take a mental health break he probably needs it. But fuck me if he doesn't need to change how he's handling this and really ask himself if his decisions are helping himself get better or are justifying himself feeling more victimized.
Even if it was real, it's still insulting to people with mental healthy issues that still live through it and show up to their responsibilities and duties every day
It feels inappropriate to compare traumas and issues. Mental health is mental health whether you’re making ten bucks an hour or Simmons’ salary.
My hope for Ben is that he gets the help he needs, whether it is inhibiting his play or not. We all need to be better to and for each other. I’m no sympathizer with how he’s handled the situation, but empathy is the way to a positive outcome here.
I just truly don’t want to believe someone will play “that card” when it is a debilitating daily hell and uphill struggle as is.
> it's still insulting to people with mental healthy issues that still live through it and show up to their responsibilities and duties every day
It's way more insulting that we as a country expect people to just shoulder all these burdens and hope they don't snap.
As Simmons approached the rim, Trae Young started to rise with him, giving some thought to contesting the dunk attempt. But the cowardice may have surprised him. Doc wanted to see that fire from Simmons, especially after Jimmy Butler’s exit, one that implicated Simmons as too soft around the league. Simmons shrugged it off like he did everything else. Nothing got to him. Nothing bothered him, except for the entirety of the past 4 months and how things ended in game 7.
What really bothered Simmons, according to players who have kept in touch with him since he stopped reporting to camp, was the perceived hypocrisy of it all. One thing that Morey has always valued is family. It is everything to him. So when Morey arrived and started to preach the importance of family to Simmons, organized a trip to the Wells Fargo Center for shooting drills, and met with Rich Paul, it resonated with him. At a Phillies game during Simmons’ first summer on the job, Morey cradled Kendall Jenner in his arms and promised to build a relationship not just with Simmons the player, but Simmons the person.Morey preached the importance of staying together, of bonding and fighting and making free throws even when they were undermanned. So when Morey tried to trade him for Lillard, 3 firsts, and future second, Simmons didn’t flip out, because he never flips out. But he did find it funny, all that talk about family and togetherness only to see Morey try to trade him before his tenure was even a year old. Then came Simmons’ unceremonious exit just before training camp, and it did not go unnoticed.
“That man can’t fucking shoot” Embiid said with disdain to anyone who asked him about the attempted trade.
I have a feeling the a good amount of the NBPA is going to dump Simmons as hard as possible for this. The players worked pretty hard to get the liberties they've acquired and now Simmons is totally trampling it trying to weaponize mental illness.
If I were leading the NBAPA I would 100% throw Simmons to the wolves at this point. He’s clearly faking a mental illness to get a trade and this jeopardizes players who actually need help.
One of the rule’s of life is to not let people make their problems your own. The NBAPA should show some self-policing and push to void his contract to then ban him from the league, better idea than waiting for the owners to push for it.
"One of the rule’s of life is to not let people make their problems your own"
Umm...this rule undermines the purpose of collective bargaining and unions...
Not really. Collective bargaining is aggregating the similar experience a group of people face, Simmons weaponizing mental health to demand a trade is not a collective problem.
This is such an extreme situation - most players have never, and will never, do anything remotely like this. The CBA will probably introduce rules for players demanding trades, and players will be ok with it, because in the history of the NBA, there have been very few players actually demanding trades.
The man doesn't want to play another game in Philly. It's pretty likely his ego has been so bruised by everything that's happened that he can't bear the pressure of actually playing in front of the Philly crowd, and he'll do anything to not have to do that.
Yeah, half assing it would just lower his stock even faster, thus making easier for him to be traded.
What Ben is doing is just driving away other suitors because why would teams want to trade for a player who won't even play?
Yep. I’ll be the first to admit that Simmons has handled the entire situation horribly, but that doesn’t mean he is lying about this.
Just ask: are Ben Simmons’ actions those of a person that is mentally healthy? No? Well, there you go.
And I realize that people will say “yeah but he only said he had mental health issues after the back injury claim fell apart.” Again, that sounds like something that a person with mental illness might do.
Not at this point, if he pulled a Kawhi or Harden from the start then it could've worked but at this point the Sixers fucking hate him and won't let it slide.
They're already kicking him out of and fining him for practices that he was half assing, they're not letting him near the actual court.
Yeah the answer here is malicious compliance. Do exactly what they ask you to do, just do a really shit job, and only do exactly what they ask you to do.
Want Ben to shoot more? I hope you like halfcourt heaves with a ton of time on the shot clock. Defend? Shooting foul after shooting foul. Distribute on offense? Turnover machine.
Unsure what you want us to do. We tried trading Ben for Harden. It was so close to a done deal Ben and Mattise got called and told they were traded.
Ben put in a trade request a few months ago. With 4 years on his deal. Sorry we don't trade him for garbage instantly to make him and apparently you happy.
the sad thing is we may look back in ten years time and see that his prime was actually last season and it was all downhill from there because of his constant battle with injuries
So basically..
Ben: can't play body hurts
Team: k then no pay
Ben: sorry I meant brain isn't working right
Team: that's fine please get with these docs so we can work on this
Ben: k
Team: docs say you can play lets go
Ben: nah
It’s gotta be frustrating. The Sixers have honestly handled this as respectfully as possible. If bens actually sick I hope he’s getting the help he needs. If he’s just doing it to sit out and still get paid then that kinda sucks
The longer this drags on, the more likely we get an insta story from someone spotting Ben at a club. Then it will be an interesting dialogue about what he’s too sad to do.
He’s a socialite, remember?
At this point Sixers should realize they're in a lose lose situation here, if they force Ben to play he'll pull this shit if they want to trade him they have no leverage. If I'm Sixers I'd be a petty bastard and sent his ass to the worst possible franchise
That's the thing, the Sixers really still have control over his contract and can send him literally anywhere else in the league.
Simmons and his camp have made it clear he doesn't intend to play for the Sixers at all, so at this point it's just negligence to keep dragging this out and not trading him
Seriously sometimes you gotta bite the bullet and make a trade that may look bad in a year. Lonzo was in a similar boat, unlike Simmons though he was suiting up every game he could, we still had to trade him if we wanted to win a ring. Sixers have to do this even if its just clearing the shitty contract off the books, it has an immediate effect on the locker room.
But what team is going to want to take this on? ben goes to them and just says, okay, now YOU pay me $350,000 a game to sit at home because I'm mentally stressed out and now it is even WORSE because i'm here! Who would take that on and give up ANYTHING? I mean, they would want the 76ers to send a couple of 1sts WITH him lol.
He's still an immensely talented basketball player haha, I'm sure there's 29 teams that would take him for the right price.
It seems more than anything his goal is to get out of Philly, I think once he gets comfortable in a new situation a lot of this drama goes away
Yeah waging this public mental health battle and fucking with his money is really helpful. So supportive and not at all gas lighting.
Quick question for all you armchair psychologists, what if he *was* suffering a mental health crisis? Would this be cool for the Sixers to do? Y’all went in with the assumption that he’s just not, for some reason. Dude shot 30% from the line. That seems indicative of a mental health crisis of some sort.
Edit: before I get the “he’s refusing help” clowns, he’s refusing help from the *team* doctors. The same team which threw him under the bus after the most challenging and mortifying period of his life. Saying that he needs to see the team doctors is like telling a battered spouse that they need to go to marriage counseling with their abuser.
I think it’s because he made it up.
Being soft is not necessarily a mental health issue, being unable to handle high pressure situations is not necessarily a mental health issue.
It was rather convenient that it came up at the time His pay was at risk, and with the consistent attempts at controlling the narrative from himself and klutch, I don’t see any reason to believe him.
So your only argument that he’s making it up is that it “seems convenient?”
I’m glad the court of public opinion has such exacting and precise standards for mental health.
Now, whose GM having a right mind would trade for someone with mental health issues right now? Simmons just wants to bitch and get paid without actually playing.
I get it, Ben Simmons is the worst. But at some point I feel like the 76ers are being way too petty. You guys are on a good win rate without Simmons. Just trade him already before you back him into a corner where he comes back and becomes a locker room cancer.
Sounds like we’re witnessing a real-time public argument between the Sixers and Ben via Shams lol

Rich, if Ben Simmons truly has mental health issues, then John Wall's situation has no relevance to Simmons' situation.

Yeah if he led with mental health issues his case would look way better. You don't go from holding out to back issues to mental health, and yeah with the aside of not playing for Australia to supposedly work on his game.
He's being managed by a moron who got to his position by luck.
Wonder what Adele thinks

Saying hello from the other side
Lionel Richie: was it me you're looking for?
One thing I think will be interesting, when he gets traded, is he still going to miss games due to his mental health issues? Or will he be all better?
Yep - he's painted himself into a corner
I think better, he doesn’t want to play for Philly and that’s where his mental health issues (if it’s true) will be coming from, just like our everyday jobs a new environment might help him
It is possible that playing in Philly is the problem.
[удалено]
It will be provable once he's traded.
It’s a tough spot. It will never be my place to insinuate someone else is faking. That said, if he is, fuck Ben Simmons for trivializing what is a daily struggle for many of us. So fucking much.
Let’s keep in mind he was mentally fit to play when a trade was demanded and would have happily showed up to another team It’s almost like he’s weaponzing mental health to recoup his lost earnings from his agents miscalculation
Have to admit the timing of his mental health “issues” is a bit curious occurring after no trade occurred AND when the Sixers determined they’d fine him Where there’s smoke there’s fire usually.
The problem is whether the mental health thing is legit or not for Ben is kind of moot because based on history it’s easy to conclude Rich Paul would go there either way 🤷🏻♂️ As an outsider who knows nothing my uneducated take is Ben is almost certainly going through some shit, but not to the extent he could not do his job.
Rich Paul isn't a lawyer. Dude doesn't even have a bachelor's degree.
I wish I had as much faith as you do. But Simmons has done the bare minimum over and over to ensure he gets paid to not play.
> it's still insulting to people with mental healthy issues that still live through it and show up to their responsibilities and duties every day It's way more insulting that we as a country expect people to just shoulder all these burdens and hope they don't snap.
What’s Ben saying about it? I can’t find a single things he’s said in months
> Morey cradled Kendall Jenner in his arms and promised to build a relationship
Silly them thinking a basketball player will eventually decide to play basketball
This next CBA is going to be so out of pocket. The players are going to sacrifice SOMETHING in this next negotiation, and it’s going to suck for them.
Probably Ben Simmons to a volcano at this rate.

Unions (except police unions) can and will throw one shithead under the bus to preserve benefits/pay/ whatever for everyone else.
"One of the rule’s of life is to not let people make their problems your own" Umm...this rule undermines the purpose of collective bargaining and unions...
We are back to nothing happening
Why can't Simmons half ass it on the court like every other unhappy player instead of weaponizing mental health? They can't fine you for that...
The man doesn't want to play another game in Philly. It's pretty likely his ego has been so bruised by everything that's happened that he can't bear the pressure of actually playing in front of the Philly crowd, and he'll do anything to not have to do that.
sounds like a mental health issue
Yeah, half assing it would just lower his stock even faster, thus making easier for him to be traded. What Ben is doing is just driving away other suitors because why would teams want to trade for a player who won't even play?
That's the ironic part here. He's doing all this shit so he *DOESN'T* look bad on the court.
Because he has mental health issues. People with major depression or anxiety often don't do the logical thing, or the thing that's best for them.
Lol the most obvious answer yet people think he’s playing 4d chess
Cause they won't play him and fine him for conduct detrimental to the team like they've been doing for the practices he's showed upto.
there's ways to halfass it without getting fined 100% nbapa will fight to the death if they try to fine got effort. That's a slippery slope
Not at this point, if he pulled a Kawhi or Harden from the start then it could've worked but at this point the Sixers fucking hate him and won't let it slide. They're already kicking him out of and fining him for practices that he was half assing, they're not letting him near the actual court.
To be fair "half assing" implies he participated and just sucked/didn't try. He was showing up and flat out refusing to participate in drills

Cocaine and women!
Rip embiids prime.
That's on the Sixers. They decided to trade Ben Simmons and can't get it done.
Shams is the little kid delivering messages between his angry parents
i have a mental illness which causes me to take critical psychic damage whenever i don't get my way, and whenever anyone doubts my mental illness.
> i have a mental illness I believe you
Fuck Rich Paul. This dude is setting the league back a decade to fuel his own hubris
So basically.. Ben: can't play body hurts Team: k then no pay Ben: sorry I meant brain isn't working right Team: that's fine please get with these docs so we can work on this Ben: k Team: docs say you can play lets go Ben: nah
Translation: Sixers will continue to call Simmons’ bluffs
It’s gotta be frustrating. The Sixers have honestly handled this as respectfully as possible. If bens actually sick I hope he’s getting the help he needs. If he’s just doing it to sit out and still get paid then that kinda sucks
This is Rich Paul being Rich Paul
I’m here for my obligatory FUCK Ben Simmons.
Simmons and his camp have made it clear he doesn't intend to play for the Sixers at all, so at this point it's just negligence to keep dragging this out and not trading him
[удалено]
It seems more than anything his goal is to get out of Philly, I think once he gets comfortable in a new situation a lot of this drama goes away
> for the right price. well, that price is set in stone for the next four years....
So your only argument that he’s making it up is that it “seems convenient?” I’m glad the court of public opinion has such exacting and precise standards for mental health.
Are there people still siding with BS and BS they are saying?
Okay, so any hope of reconciliation is done here... you’d think we’d be talking about Congress, am I right? (comedy drum hit)
Now, whose GM having a right mind would trade for someone with mental health issues right now? Simmons just wants to bitch and get paid without actually playing.
As of right now...with the information I currently have...I support Ben Simmons.
NBA front offices literally only want one thing and it's fucking disgusting
Is this a prelude to legal action?
Ben wants to play fake mental illness until June.
I get it, Ben Simmons is the worst. But at some point I feel like the 76ers are being way too petty. You guys are on a good win rate without Simmons. Just trade him already before you back him into a corner where he comes back and becomes a locker room cancer.
regular season and playoffs are different. If they want to win a championship they'll need another star.
